- Why is Adirondack spruce so great for guitar tops? What are luthiers looking for when they choose a piece of top wood?
Travis is back, and he's diving deep on Adirondack. You might need headphones for this one, we're doing some wood tapping!

If you’re on the fence. Buy a Recording King guitar even their budget models are great. I’ve owned 5. None have been duds. They are a lot like red label Yamahas from the 70’s. They absolutely sound that good.
Thanks!
Cool little video. Interesting to get a little insight into the processes used to build a custom instrument. TY MH
Awesome thanks for shedding some light on these various woods
I have an OM with an adi top and it sounds fantastic.
I'll bet those ones with sustain had medium or a mix of grain widths
They have some beautiful instruments ! I would love to have a 328 or 318 Dread but my fall 7 years ago make the big bodied guitars pretty hard to play. But you make 000's !
We do! Sorry to hear about the fall, glad you're still able to play. Happy picking!
@@RecordingKingOfficial I ran off a scaffold unto a brick patio !! Ha ha ha ! My business partner always told me- no sense being stupid unless I show it. You guys do make great guitars. I had a 12 fret once that was amazing. Wish I still had it.
I've been playing acoustic guitar for almost 50 years, very interesting video. I play a dreadnought, and I'm interested by an OM size, very suitable for finger-picking.
Thanks for watching!
I am liking my Rd 328 after a month . I had to humidify it because of string buzz but 72 hours and she is back to perfect. Modern light guitars dry out faster. Do a video on how important it is. Thanks for the video
It def has a lot to do with things, I have an old daily that is stored leaning against something in the living room. If the weather changes, the tuning moves about half a step across the board. It's composite and a trooper.
next time you do a test like this, you need to make sure you hold it from the middle to actually hear the resonance. when you hold the corner it takes it all away.
☑️ I've owned too many acoustics to make a really good experienced evaluation...so , I have three RK OOO Reserve tonewood series (Adi) and they sound great especially considering the quality and the price ; but , in my opinion Adirondack can be very good and it can be just average sounding , same as it goes for Sitka spruce ; but does it really sound better than Sitka? No, not really , probably punchier, more headroom if you have that hard attack , not necessarily more chime ; I do have Sitka tops that look better (tighter, straighter) and sound better on certain guitars than my Adi tops ; ie. It's more to do with each build than with the species of tonewood top to sound better ‼️☻️🙃😉
That was pretty cool & informative. Though, that setting would be better off to sit out in & pick a tune or 2 instead of knockin' on some boards ;)
Are they all the same thickness ?
