Great guy and a smart man bringing the Rock back to life as a shortline.
The name was up for grabs. And he’s bringing it back very well!
I love this. This is probably the closest I'll ever get to riding in a Rock Island train. I wasn't old enough to ever see a Rock train while the Rock was in action. I've only seen bit and pieces where it used to be. It used to cover Arkansas. Now most is nothing but abandoned row.
I wasn’t even born yet. But what it would have been like to see many of the older railroads in action. This may not be the old rock. But they’re making their own name now a days
Fantastic footage. I'm really glad the Rock has returned.
It's come along way since the restart, and i'm glad too. I see big things for them in the future and i'll be glad to watch it happen.
Great video! It is so cool to see the Rock back. Seems like the folks at Rock Island Rail are pretty friendly to railfans.
I want a model of that GP30 with Mr. Peanut.
This reminds me of the Illini Terminal Railroad.
Same paintjob as the Illinois Terminal.
I’ve got shots of the Illini Terminal geep after they got it fresh from the paint booth. And I believe the Mr. Peanut put up there was a joke but he just kinda stayed around 🤣
This video is simply magnificent. I found so much enjoyment throughout it!
Thanks! Always glad to hear!! Check out some of my other stuff on the channel, got quite a few goodies.
the freshly painted engines look soooooo good!
Yes they do. So clean you could eat on them
@@RollingRailProductions just looking at the locomotives make me think that the rock is a brand new railroad in america but i think it isn't true?
There was a Rock Island before. They have just reborn this Rock Island now.
@@RollingRailProductions aha! and i also just woke up xd
Excellent! Thanks for sharing! Been a fan of The Rock for a long time, and only seen traces of the real thing here and there! Long Live The Rock
This may not be the old rock. But it’s the reborn rock!
Very cool nostalgia paint and ride along, a boyhood dream!
Give them some time, there will be more Rock engines. Operations are slowly expanding. I can’t wait to get back down and film the Gulfport operations!
Nice to see "bankrupt blue," as many Rock Island employees use to call it, making a comeback on locomotives!
It’s officially been renamed “Reborn Blue”. That B word is dangerous 😆
@@RollingRailProductions Good choice of color description!
You can't stop Rock n roll it's here to stay!! ❤❤❤
I've met the crew before, truly the greatest railroad crew ever!
It’s a great bunch of people!
I fell in love with the Rock Island railroad when I was 5 in 1990. My dad took me to the Oklahoma City Train Show and after hours of running around there watching trains go around and having fun he said he would buy me 2 items. After all the looking around I only had my eyes on one thing and it was a box set of Rock Island diesels. I don't know why I needed them but I did and knew that was my railroad right then. Rock Island was long gone from Lawton, Oklahoma by the time I was born, but I always knew it would be my favorite railroad somehow and still is today. Hopefully I will get out to Sumner in the springtime to get some pictures!
It may not be the original Rock but the Reborn Rock is kicking A! And they also have the line down in Gulfport too now.
I love this. And the pride they show.
❤️ They have a great attitude. Everyone one of them. That’s what I at least tried to show in the video. I can’t wait to go back and see them again. The Rock is Reborn!
@@RollingRailProductions I imagine with their paint scheme, attitude towards fans, cabooses, and surely some restored The Rock rolling stock soon, they will be a BIG draw to rail fans. And a help to the local economy--assuming local businesses have common sense. Just keep the Orange Plague away!!!
@@tommyhunter1817 the Orange Plague define please

I love the sound of that GP15’s prime mover!
It sounds great. Nothing beats the sound of an older EMD
When I was little I watched THE ROCK thay where GP 35s and GP38s in Muscatine IA , in 70s and early 80s with the red and yellow ROCK ISLAND , miss the good old.days ,
I also road on the sw1200 red and yellow ROCK ISLAND switcher when my mom's boyfriend was a ENGINEER., Switching tank cars and grain cars at GPC , grain processing plant in Muscatine IA , I made and HO scale layout of the ROCK ISLAND and THE ROCK , good ol days it was back then ,
I worked non the Rock from a1970 to 1980 in St Louis. I did everything from laborer, to conductor. I miss it alot
It would have been a site to see the Rock in its hay day
I like that hornshow at the end 📢🚂
We had them posed for photos and it was a on the spot quick think.
This reminds me of the Audubon Branch in the late 1970's, very cool to see "THE ROCK" in operation again!
It’s back and growing everyday!
That was a very nice video especially with all 3 and the caboose hope I see it soon
Thanks! These fellas are definitely an operation to go see!
Ok....that ending...tooootally topped the whole video!!!
I thought it was a fitting end!
The rock ;)
Couple of those bridges looked pretty knarely
Looks can be deceiving. A lot of repairs have been done. And yes they do cover some knarely areas.
If you had seen the Rock Island branch lines in the last years, not that much different...
Can't wait for some RI livery on that GP30, Red & Yellow or Blue & White !!
Id like to see the Red & Yellow w/tall white letters ! : D
It would look good it red and yellow. Main hold up is the big dent in the nose.
@@RollingRailProductions Maybe the local auto body shop could help ? Lol
Might be just a hair too thick for them 🤣😂
@@RollingRailProductions Lol, They could figure it out I'm sure. Dent pulling is dent pulling, drill a hole put a bigger rod in and pull till flush, weld the hole up, hammer, smooth out the surface and prime for painting later. : D
Long Live the Rock!
They’re back and better than ever!
Will you go back? I wish there were more videos of this revived Rock Island on RUclips but I have watched all of them.
Yes I do plan to go back. I also plan to go and shoot the Gulfport operations. But job right now has made doing anything other than it impossible. It will come.
@@RollingRailProductions Nice, you probably won’t care about this but I decided to take a look at how much abandoned track that Rock Island Rail has not even restored yet. Using Google Earth and the measuring tool it comes to around 171 miles of track. A 130 miles of that goes to Vicksburg which is right next to Jackson, MS which is absurd. I also found a caboose and a high cube boxcar just left to sit and still the rails as if they are waiting for their next assignment many decades later, they next somewhat near Vicksburg.
It could be fixed. But needs a boxcar full of money. One step at a time. Maybe one day we’ll it happen
I would also love to see a shortline railroad bring back Chessie System.
That would be a cool one. But we may only get museum painted up locos
CSX owns the Chessie System name. CSX is Chessie System and Seaboard System and all of their subsidiaries combined. The only way there will ever be a freshly painted Chessie System locomotive is if CSX does it for nostalgia. But yes, I agree with you that it would be nice to see. There is an old Chessie System high hood GP9 rusting away on a siding outside of Valdosta, Georgia.
@@David-yo5reyep, Ive seen that. Sad
Csx already has a heritage loco o in that scheme
nice video. thank you
Thank you!!
I seen these as a kid in Oklahoma, They were Brown and some red and Yellow, Blue not so munch, They we’re beaten up and bent and dirty from smoke, They let these Rock Island run on here till the 80s and Katy took over with Santa fa. Then they had the red light on last car, Dam shameful how it ended. Rock Islands we’re always my favorite train’s, Aways waves
Well we now have a modern day rock to go and see. I would have loved to have seen them in their hay day.
Looks like we need some industrial "Dawn" grease cutter on the top of that unit !! Lol
We scrubbed on it for a good 2 hours before it even got started.
@@RollingRailProductions Yes, hey it looks great as always ! : )
Not a big fan of The Rock but great video outstanding footage. So glad CN didn't take them.over and glad you were using a caboose at the end of your train. I hope to see more videos. Have a great day everyone 😀
I’m really wanting to go shoot the other operation they have now down in Gulfport! You may not be a big fan but you have to admit that the Reborn Blue sure does stand out from the rest!
@@RollingRailProductions yes you got me there. I did like there paint scheme
I understand wanting to keep these great looking units clean, but Dude... put on some fall protection! That degreaser and heights dont mix!
I'd hate to see another railroaded get hurt...
A safe hitch is 4 mph or under, a good engineer will try to barely move the equipment being coupled up to. The Budweiser switch had notoriously bad track and whenever the night trainmaster knew I was working even if it wasn’t the job I was assigned he call me to run the engine, usually an SW-1500. I asked him why me? And his honest reply was if I need you to move a half inch I know that’s what I’ll get where the engineer working the job would give me a foot or more and make rerailing the freight car worse than it was.
The only time I was rough on a hitch was when Amtrak bought the GE E60 locomotives. Until the couplers were broken in they were very difficult to get the pin to drop. Fortunately that only lasted just over a month after delivery.
Food for thought
Besides using the Rock Island name how were they legally able to use the logo and paint schemes?
The actual Rock Island logo trademark was for sale and they purchased it. So the Rock Island is back but under a slightly new name.
Are these guys still in operation? I haven’t heard or seen anything about them in a while.
Very much so. Lots happening on their end. “New” power showing up. Plans for trackwork. And possibly another line being acquired.
@@RollingRailProductions That’s awesome!
Do they have any sort of schedule now?
They are definitely running more frequently now that they have been hauling the windmill trains. I don’t have times or days. But there’s a much better chance of getting them running throughout the week now.
The lettering under that Red icon thing whatever you call it, it blends in with the surroundings too well, would you please make that louder like Red or Yellow please.
Entire video would have to be re-edited and uploaded. It’s a problem I didn’t notice till after
What is the last car that resembles a caboose, and what product is in the remaining cars?
The last car on the train was a caboose, and the rest of the train just has tank cars. I believe these were empty, just in storage for the time being.
What happened to 3 step protection?v
Name my Railroad after that mess. Nope.
Great video! How hard was it to get this cab ride?
With special permission from the owner and crew. All PPE worn. Etc.
they got alot of work to do on that track yikes
You should have seen what they started with. It’s come along way since the beginning
🤍🩵👍
When does the Dash-8 come to service???
I have no time frame on that. But when the track gets improved more it should be coming into service
Wait... they got a dash 8! Can't wait to see that
It’s been on the property for about 2 months or more I believe. Theirs plans in the works for it. Track work is just top priority right now.
AT 2:24 whT was he doing? Is that to separate the locomotives inch by inch?
He is tightening the handbrake to make sure it rereleases before we made a reverse move.
@@RollingRailProductions ah. Thank you. Just the way the camera was moving, it looked like the locomotive was moving as well. I've seen devices on caboose and well cars that ou crank and it moves the railcar. Thanks for he info. The new old dash 8 looks good in the red and yellow. Have you seen it yet?
Yes I have. We did a night shoot with fireworks on July 4th weekend with it. I’m ready to see it get out and running.
