The song was based on a French horror movie from the 60s called Les yeux sans visage, or Eyes Without a Face in English. It's basically about a doctor turned serial deleter after his daughter 's face was disfigured in a accident. He was abducting young women and surgically removing their faces to repair his daughter's disfigured face.
The title and phrase is based on the movie you mention. But in his memoir, Dancing with Myself, Idol explained: "I started to use 'Eyes Without a Face' as a possible title/lyric/chorus for the song. I began to write words that, in some disguised form, spoke about my life in New York and a relationship gone wrong, on the edge of disintegrating into madness. Perhaps I was reflecting on my own touring infidelities. In a way, those can leave you feeling soulless, especially if you're already in a relationship that you value but are degrading by looking elsewhere for additional sexual kicks."
Next time you can do "Rebel Yell" or "Flesh for fantasy". These are two songs from the same album as "Eyes without a face" but faster and louder, more Billy Idol style. You can also do "Cradle of love", this song has a interesting and funny music video.
Love Billy as he is such an eclectic performer.going from full on rock to more synch pop styles. I do like this song, but don't think it's the greatest introduction to him. Rebel yell, Hot in the city or White wedding would have been better choices. Hell though, he is still going and released his latest single "Cage" in the last couple of weeks.
A french speaker made a comment a while back that the chorus is singing Eyes Without a Face in French... I have heard this song since I was a kid and never knew that ... sounds so wonderful.. now I know that..saw him once in the 90's.
*I lived through the time when Billy Idol also had his musical heyday. Shit, how quickly time has passed! Today I prefer to listen to Nickelback, Ramstein, Linkin Park, The Offspring, Evanescence, Metallica and many others. We don't live forever, but this music certainly lives much longer than we do.*

@@marrkhicks well, you do sound like one. Don't be so hard on yourself everyone has their bad day's. 😁 seriously though you should be able to disagree with someone else's opinion without calling them a moron.
I love this video! Back in the day it freaked out my Catholic mom, which only made me like it more, lol! She loved the song, but when we saw the video together on TV for the first time, I was like, "Cool!" And she was like, "God help us!" 😂
It was a time when music was completely different. You don't see expensive brands anywhere, nor do you see expensive cars and expensive watches. You can't cheat art.
I would suggest listening to these songs without watching the video. Once you understand and appreciate the music then maybe you can watch the video and it won't change your perception of the music. If you didn't live during that period of time you won't understand the videos themselves aren't even really representations of the songs
So tell use what the song ment! You can tell you in you 20’s if you would take a little time read the liyrics maybe you would like some of the older songs!
Early 80 video's are crap. Was the beginning of videoclips and how much record companies wanted to pay for a clip. Remember hearing this song when i was 12 or 13 and loved it, just turned 51. Not every record label was willing to spent Michael Jackson thriller money
This isn't the best introduction since it's his change up "look, I can actually sing too, not just rock out" song after the first few releases. White Wedding and Rebel Yell are probably better starting points.
Hey Ellierose I really enjoyed your reaction videos If you haven't seen it yet...please react to Chester Bennington 'Rolling in the deep live...if you haven't seen this before you will be blown off your socks Thanks🙂
I'm a new subsciber. Love the content. Can you do a reaction. To betraying the martyrs "Let it go"? It's a metal cover to the Disney movie frozen. And you'll either adore it, or hate it. Thank you.
Great voice, but Spike was hotter. Plus, that lip thing reminds me far too much of Tim Curry to take him seriously. I think my favorite of his was Rebel Yell. It had a bit more kick. If you want something slower, I suggest listening to Jimmy Buffet: Love in the Library. It's really pretty.
Blasting this song in the car late at night on an empty road is a pure experience.
for real, its one of those times that life doesnt seem real
I don't believe it
Do true 💙
Especially after a few beers
My man appreciates the good things. God bless you , Brother.
His eyes are everything...
love this song, reminds me of late night dances in club's back in the 80's
You love so easy
@matimus100o you love so hard
My favorite Billy Idol song. Just an incredible hypnotic groove. Then it breaks into the rock part.
Sweet Sixteen is up there too.💯💯

Glad to see that the younger generation is getting into some of these 80's classics!
Well said well bloody said for real
I play this on a loop lol. For hours. Thats how long it takes me to get sick of it till the next day.

I don’t dislike this song but I am always waiting for the part where it picks up. Rebel yell and White wedding are great upbeat songs.
I like "Flesh For Fantasy" also.
i'm cpmpletely different i like the soothing start of the song
I second flesh for fantasy. Blue highway is awesome too off this album
Duh I can only listen to fast songs, cuz I’m a moron duh

You got it! The intro is deceptive, and the finale is a knock out.
I love all things Billy Idol, awesome song
Love from Thomas everyone ❤ congratulations Thomas and for coming out
Billy Idol just released a new single, "Cage". It is worth a listen, his newer stuff is really very god.
Best idol song
02:12 Les yeux sans visage = Eyes Without A Face
The people would like a white wedding reaction! It’s a great song 🎶
Stevie Steven’s dive bomb on the guitar at the time was the sickest thing around.

Better late than never, right! I have been enjoying Billy Idol for 40 years.
Rebel Yell (official Music Video). Thank you for your honest reaction 👏
Hey Ellierose, you should react to some Skillet songs. My recommendations are "Legendary", "Surviving the Game", and "Back from the Dead".
That switchup is the bridge.
I'm a 80s baby and I'm trying why I like this song so much??!!
Because it's a piece of art, one of the best song of the 80's. They don't make song like this anymore.
It was a time when music was completely different. You don't see expensive brands anywhere, nor do you see expensive cars and expensive watches. You can't cheat art.
"Rebel Yell" next. "Flesh For Fantasy" is good also.
Hello Ellie; react to Deep Purple "Child in time" (live 1970). Greetings from Chile.

I totally agree. Billy Idol has made a lot of good music but he is a cringy poser.
dumbest comment on the internet and that's saying a lot....Billy LIVES the rock n roll lifestyle and thats the opposite of the word "Poser"
