I had a short conversation with Mr Idol at a airport where the flight was delayed to Yugoslavia , he had a acoustic guitar and sang a couple of songs for some kids who were there , very nice guy . Formally he was in a punk band called Generation X who had a few songs
That was when he headed to Vegas with Adam Sandler, trying to save Drew Barrymore. That is really cool that you were able to meet him. I've heard that he is pretty cool.
Me & my grandparents used to live on the same street as him. My Nan used to sometimes babysit for his mum. I don’t remember much as I was very young, I do remember him singing to me & swinging me around in circles. Very kind & patient to a young kid who was very annoying lol! My Nan kept the drawings he did for me (She used to keep everything)He would have been around 15 or 16 at the time. We ended up moving back to Wales & the next time I saw him was on the tv. I’m very happy for the young man, who was so sweet to me, became Billy Idol & is living his dream xx
Me too brother bought his greatest hits for this song don't get me wrong I like his other stuff this song wasn't overplayed like the others were plus its a nice dance song with a girl win win lol😊
Usually when a fav band or performer changes styles, fans flip their lid, but for some reason, Billy Idol never received any backlash. Anything he did felt like gold.
Cradle of Love with official video. Billy had broken his leg in a motorcycle accident but they found a creative way to show him in the video. He had a full leg cast.
This song "Eyes Without a Face" by Billy Idol is a reference to the French horror film "Les Yeux sans visage" (1960). That title in French occurs in the lyrics of the song. The film is about a woman whose face was injured in an automobile accident and her father, a surgeon, who's trying to restore his daughter's face. Also, Billy Idol was one of those iconic voices from the '80s.
Yes the girls singing "Les yeux sans visage" directly translates to "Eyes without a face." Also the part where his lips are moving but there are no vocals. "During the second chorus, you can see his lips moving with no vocals (4:40). He’s actually mouthing "I'm all out of hope, one more bad dream could bring a fall." This section was muted intentionally in the final cut, enhancing the eerie, detached vibe of the music video. It’s a stylistic choice, adding to the haunting atmosphere by letting the visuals carry some of the emotion without the usual vocal anchor, leaving the impression of something "missing" that aligns with the song's theme of alienation and disconnection."
I saw Billy Idol earlier this year and he is still awesome. His voice held in there very well and very entertaining show. He can't move like he used to...likely because of aging and lots of residual aches and pains from his motorcycle accident which almost killed him. Great show. As for his musical style he remarked during the show that he really likes soul and R&B and that's what he likes best. So while he was a rocker, his influences were mostly soul and R&B.
What a beautiful song. One of my favourite Billy Idol songs. That both clap was artistic and tastefully done. Suited the song Billy Idol style. Great reaction and review .
[Billy Idol:] I'm all out of hope One more bad dream Could bring a fall When I'm far from home Don't call me on the phone To tell me you're alone It's easy to deceive It's easy to tease But hard to get release [Billy Idol (Perri Lister):] (Les yeux sans visage) Eyes without a face (Les yeux sans visage) Eyes without a face (Les yeux sans visage) Eyes without a face Got no human grace You're eyes without a face [Billy Idol:] I spend so much time Believing all the lies To keep the dream alive Now it makes me sad It makes me mad at truth For loving what was you [Billy Idol (Perri Lister):] (Les yeux sans visage) Eyes without a face (Les yeux sans visage) Eyes without a face (Les yeux sans visage) Eyes without a face Got no human grace You're eyes without a face [Billy Idol:] When you hear the music, you make a dip Into someone else's pocket then make a slip Steal a car and go to Las Vegas Oh, the gigolo pool Hanging out by the state line Turning holy water into wine Drinking it down, oh I'm on a bus on a psychedelic trip Reading murder books, trying to stay hip I'm thinking of you and you're out there, so Say your prayers Say your prayers Say your prayers Now I close my eyes And I wonder why I don't despise Now all I can do Is love what was once So alive and new But it's gone from your eyes I'd better realise [Billy Idol (Perri Lister):] (Les yeux sans visage) Eyes without a face (Les yeux sans visage) Eyes without a face (Les yeux sans visage) Eyes without a face Got no human grace You're eyes without a face Such a human waste You're eyes without a face [Billy Idol:] And now it's getting worse

Other tracks I recommend you to react to by him are: "Flesh For Fantasy", "Hot in the City", "Cradle of Love", "Mony Mony", "Catch My Fall", "Shock To the System", "Wasteland", "Concrete Kingdom", "Dancing with Myself". Billy Idol has so many good songs - I’d still recommend the music videos for To Be A Lover, Cradle Of Love and Shock To The System but also some of his lesser known songs like Blue Highway, Flesh For Fantasy or something newer like Running From The Ghost
My husband who passed tragically in 2018 and I were in bands together my husband was a bass guitarist.. Love that bass for sure. Billy makes me think of the lead guitarist we had in our band and they're both Sagittarius. This is my favorite song of Billy's. ❤
Billy Idol has some gems , he was always a bit under the radar compared to other acts around in the 80's. incredible dance floor vibes, roller-skate vibes.
To hear this for the first time on headphones, watching the video, while in your den is quite a different experience than being in your car on a winding, desolate road with the windows down, the warm evening breeze blowing in, and a crescent moon peeking out from behind ominous clouds. There are many ways to experience music; seek out the ways that will stick with you.
This is up there among my all time faves. The bass, the atmosphere -- it gets me every single time. One particular live version is pretty incredible as well. Shows off more of Steve Stevens's abilities.
Great song, one of his more mellow songs, with some of that rock thrown in. Also “Eyes without a face” was a French art house film apparently. He’s underrated but a classic 80s artist.
Love this song. To me another signature song of the Eighties. I took me a long time to realize that the female background singers were actually singing the song title in French (les yeux sans visage) in the chorus. 😊
Billy is a Great Musician. His first band Generation X from the late 1970s thru 1980s was Great with songs like King Rocker (1979) Your Generation (1978) Kiss Me Deadly (1978) also re-done by Lita Ford Ready Steady Go (1978) and more
Dude had it all, good looks, swag, a great voice... A true Icon, I've also heard he's a nice guy many many times, he also has a cameo in on of my favorite cheesy movies of all time "Back to the Beach" with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funichello, a duo well known for beach party type movies in the 60s
If not "White Wedding," then "Eyes Without A Face" was Billy Idol's breakthrough hit that put him firmly in the musical mainstream. The slower, dreamier vibe of the song made it more accessible to Top 40 radio at the time, and because of this, it became his first Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #4 on July 14, 1984. In all, Billy Idol had 12 hits on the Hot 100 from 1982-1990, including nine Top 40 hits, four Top 10 hits, and one #1 hit. Here's a list of his Top 40 hits in chronological order: "Hot In The City" (#23 in 1982) "White Wedding" (#36 in 1983) "Eyes Without A Face" (#4 in 1984) "Flesh For Fantasy" (#29 in 1984) "To Be A Lover" (#6 in 1986) "Don't Need A Gun" (#37 in 1987) "Sweet Sixteen" (#20 in 1987) "Mony Mony 'Live'" (#1 in 1987) "Cradle Of Love" (#2 in 1990) Ironically, "White Wedding" has become Billy Idol's signature song despite barely entering the Top 40. Surprisingly, "Rebel Yell" missed the Top 40 altogether, peaking at #46 on the Hot 100 in 1984, a few months before "Eyes Without A Face" became his first Top 10 hit. Billy Idol's biggest hit, "Mony Mony," is a live version of a song he first recorded in 1981, and both the 1981 studio version and the 1987 live version received substantial airplay together as the song ascended the Hot 100. The song is actually a cover of a #3 hit by Tommy James & The Shondells from 1968, which means that Billy Idol's cover(s) charted higher, going all the way to #1 on November 21, 1987. Coincidentally, the song "Mony Mony" replaced at #1 was "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany, which was a cover of a #4 hit by Tommy James & The Shondells from 1967. Amazingly, Tommy James ended up with songwriting credit on consecutive #1 hits in 1987, two decades after his prime, and was also shown up by both cover artists, who took his #4 hit and his #3 hit all the way to #1. Billy Idol's second-biggest hit, "Cradle Of Love," is a bit bittersweet, because it can be seen as a changing of the guard at the top of the Hot 100, from the 1980s to the 1990s. "Cradle Of Love" almost reached the top, peaking at #2 on August 4, 1990. However, that same week, an up-and-coming R&B diva of the 1990s and 2000s kept him out of #1 with the first of 18 #1 hits in her career. The song? "Vision Of Love." The artist? "Mariah Carey. By the way, Steve Stevens is the one who does the guitar work in the middle eight of "Eyes Without A Face," including those eerie, high-pitched noises. Steve Stevens is Billy Idol's touring guitarist, and a world-renowned guitar stuntman. If you'd like to hear another song featuring his guitar stunts - specifically, the "ray gun" effect you can hear at times during his solo in "Rebel Yell" - then give "Dirty Diana" by Michael Jackson a listen. Michael Jackson took a stab at a heavy metal record, and, with the help of Steve Stevens, took it all the way to #1 on the Hot 100 in the blast-furnace summer of 1988.
Saw Billy in Cameron Indoor at Duke U. Was the Rebel Yell tour. Open seating, I had blast, Hella nice guy...met him in the green room, was call green for a reason. Seen lots of artists, but this guy was just like us. Keep rocking Billy! Lip snarl forever!
This song is inspired by a French horror film of the same name, about a young woman disfigured in a car crash! REQUIRED VIEWING for any horror fan! A film that both terrifies and breaks your heart!
That was the beauty of 80’s rock ballads. They somehow always hit us with an iconic 80’s sound rock bridge. I suggest In The Still of the Night by Whitesnake who also perfected this unexpected change up right in the middle of the song. You won’t be disappointed ❤
Always loved Billy Idol's music. He was massively popular, had a lot of upbeat high energy songs and a few ballads. All good FUN in my opinion. Loved the 80s and all the dance clubs/bars! One of my favs. Absolutely loved your reaction Aileen!
My one of task in my bucket list one Billy Idol concert , i buy th ticket, but before come the concert date start the covid, the concert (of course) cancelled and i just wait, maybe once. 2 years later when finally can i go the concert in Wambley Arena, London in 2021. One of the best concert in my life.
This is my favorite song from Billy Idol. Here is some background information with and explanation summary: Billy Idol was fascinated with the titles of horror films, including the 1960 French film "Les Yeux sans visage" (Eyes Without a Face). The movie concerns a plastic surgeon who vowed to restore the face of his daughter who had been disfigured in a car accident. This quest led him to murder victims and graft their facial features onto his daughter in an attempt to restore her beauty. By the end, all that remained of her original face was her eyes, thus making her "eyes without a face". Idol saw some parallel between the movie and the moral decay of a relationship going wrong that he experienced living in New York in the 1980s.
Criminally overlooked song, one of his biggest hits and somehow.. forgotten. It is still one of my favorite Billy Idol songs, such a journey of musical storytelling. And ofc, a ballad with a darker twist to it, what's not to love about this song ;)
Back in the day, in high school. I saw Billy Idol in concert, 1984. This was three years after MTV started and Billy Idol was one of the biggest names appearing on MTV. That was a long time ago, but I remember it was a really good show.
I've always loved this song, and the bassline is beautiful! I only learned in recent years that the song is supposedly about losing a loved one to addiction.
May I request you go down the Cult rabbit hole? "Fire Woman" and "Sanctuary" would be a good intro. IMO Billy Duffy is the most overlooked guitarist in rock.
I had a short conversation with Mr Idol at a airport where the flight was delayed to Yugoslavia , he had a acoustic guitar and sang a couple of songs for some kids who were there , very nice guy . Formally he was in a punk band called Generation X who had a few songs

That guitar solo comes out of nowhere and is fantastic.

He did an interview for this song and he said he wrote it in the perspective of a psycho killer😂
Great movie
"Eyes Without a Face" is still my favorite Idol tune.
Me too. So beautiful.
1984 was the year that changed music. I was 14 and remember so many new artists and sounds coming out that we now consider classics.
So many different kinds of music for everyone to enjoy , singers and musicians Wow

Billy Idol is awesome.
This song grows every time you listen to it👌🏻
Yes, the bass line throughout this song is ridiculous. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
[Billy Idol:]
I'm all out of hope
One more bad dream
Could bring a fall
When I'm far from home
Don't call me on the phone
To tell me you're alone
It's easy to deceive
It's easy to tease
But hard to get release
[Billy Idol (Perri Lister):]
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
Got no human grace
You're eyes without a face
[Billy Idol:]
I spend so much time
Believing all the lies
To keep the dream alive
Now it makes me sad
It makes me mad at truth
For loving what was you
[Billy Idol (Perri Lister):]
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
Got no human grace
You're eyes without a face
[Billy Idol:]
When you hear the music, you make a dip
Into someone else's pocket then make a slip
Steal a car and go to Las Vegas
Oh, the gigolo pool
Hanging out by the state line
Turning holy water into wine
Drinking it down, oh
I'm on a bus on a psychedelic trip
Reading murder books, trying to stay hip
I'm thinking of you and you're out there, so
Say your prayers
Say your prayers
Say your prayers
Now I close my eyes
And I wonder why
I don't despise
Now all I can do
Is love what was once
So alive and new
But it's gone from your eyes
I'd better realise
[Billy Idol (Perri Lister):]
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
Got no human grace
You're eyes without a face
Such a human waste
You're eyes without a face
[Billy Idol:]
And now it's getting worse

This is my favorite song from Billy Idol. Here is some background information with and explanation summary:
Billy Idol was fascinated with the titles of horror films, including the 1960 French film "Les Yeux sans visage" (Eyes Without a Face).
My all time favourite song from Billy Idol. He is a legend thanks Aileen
Back in the day, in high school. I saw Billy Idol in concert, 1984. This was three years after MTV started and Billy Idol was one of the biggest names appearing on MTV. That was a long time ago, but I remember it was a really good show.
Always love your commentary! 😻 How can anyone not! 🎉

I've always loved this song, and the bassline is beautiful! I only learned in recent years that the song is supposedly about losing a loved one to addiction.
this was a big one on mtv back in the day... great song
Cradle of Love!!!!!!!!!!!
May I request you go down the Cult rabbit hole? "Fire Woman" and "Sanctuary" would be a good intro. IMO Billy Duffy is the most overlooked guitarist in rock.
That guitar tone on the bridge is one of my favorites of all time
this one Proved he Can sing..since the very first time i listened.. back in the '80's .
Nice reaction. I loved the live edition he did this year on Vevo. Simply amazing, you should watch it.
Blue Highway and Got To Be A Lover are two awesome songs by Billy Idol
That's one of my all time favorite guitar solos.
Flash for fantasy is a amazing song from Billy
The tied arm is referring to Billy Idol's drug addictions.
