I swear he escapes on purpose cause he finds it amusing like he has everything he needs in there room, a play set, a girlfriend, free food, like my mans spoiled here and he just wanna have some fun
Stoffel: Alright girl, here's the plan .. Cycle guard near the north wall every 10 minutes and through that entry point drop food at 1/2 sun. When the food arrives, you'll distract the guard as I slyly climb that wall over there, go behind him and steal his keys. After that, I return to the habitat and we eat together. Then, around 3/4 sun, you and I are going to go over to the south wall and climb it using this rope that I buried 3 months ago when the owner left it at the edge of the enclosure when completing some renovations to our habitate. After our exit we cross the parking lot to steal the caretaker's car and drive to the nearest 24/7 where we will use a phone booth that I will activate with the change I stole from the owner's sofa when last time I broke into his home. We ask for a pizza delivery to the his house when the lights go out (2 hours after he goes to bed) and hide in a bush until the pizza arrives and they open the door. That's when we sneak into the house and steal 3 screws, 1 book, 1 necklace and a lighter for our next escape tomorrow.

Everytime he has escaped he just wandered the area of the zoo and never went further than the perimeter. He was raised by humans and lives comfortably with them. He even allowed himself to get caught and put back in his enclosure by the staff. The escapes and escape attempts were just a bit of fun for him all this time. Hes not depressed, hes had a long interesting life and lives comfortably here. He also wont be able to live out in the wild. Releasing him would be a death sentence.
From what I recall, Stoffle was actually raised by farmers, so he likes humans too much to actually leave the vicinity of Moholoholo even when he escapes from his pen; as such, he's locked up mostly to keep him from murdering the other animals that actually are being rehabilitated for life in the wild.
This is cruel. If he wants to live free why not let him? He has the instincts to survive. See how he is sucking his foot to soothe himself? He is miserable.😢
I saw another of his videos where he did his usual escape at night. He then broke into the mans house and tried to get into his bedroom to let him know he had escaped. I think it has become a game to him.
The issue is that Stoffel was hand raised by a local farmer. This means he's used to being around humans, but at the same time he's still a "wild" animal, which is not a great combination in animals as strong and vicious as honey badgers. He has been released from time to time, and used to be allowed to wander free, but he continued to remain around humans (and would hang around the rescue centre). Unfortunately, he would then attack and kill some of the rescue animals and also attack people (and break into the accommodation). In fact, he almost died after getting into a fight with lions. He can't be released into the wild, as he will keep seeking out human company. So, to keep everyone safe (including Stoffel), he is kept in an enclosure where he gets free bed and board, including treats like fresh honeycomb. 🙂
Oh my apologies. Was reacting without knowing abt Stoffel story. At least we get to see Stoffel up close. I am fascinated by Honey Badgers and Stoffel is a startlingly intelligent badger. I take back my comments of cruelty. Sorry.
@Collette yea, he grew up in captivity, and like the videos made about stuffel and his handler, they talk about how often he escapes the enclosure, but when he does, he never wander off into the wild he has many chances to be free if he wanted to the escapes sometimes are not known about for sometime hours due to being at night or times when not alot of workers are around when he escapes he always goes to other animals enclosure and harasse them he gone to the lion enclosure like 2 times or more one time he got hurt pretty badly by the lions so that's why they try so hard to keep him from getting out not cause they wanna keep him from running free its to keep the other animals and himself safe most animals even ones way bigger then honey badgers are scared of them and will avoid them cause there know for being so aggressive for no reason even to animals that are not pray for the badgers they jusy like to F stuff up lol

I'm literally looking at grass in their enclosure. He's well looked after... given fresh honeycomb to eat as a treat and plenty of water. Honey badgers live in the bush, so dirt and scrub doesn't bother them at all. Stoffel is content and does not look distressed. Moholoholo are a well respected rehabilitation centre who do fantastic work with local wildlife and are experts in knowing how to look after animals in their care.

The wolverine . you could put the Komodo dragon in there let's leave the lizards and snakes out of it.. because it's the honey badger was 9 ft long the Komodo dragon will have a problem with that. baddest land animals in the world.. honey badger and a wolverine those animals are like raptors.. give them an extra pounds.. 9 ft long you got a problem.. my saying is those smallest animals.. on land.. you can say whatever you want about I go on and on about other animals. Elephants..monkeys this and that and parrots.. dolphin in the whale that swim in the ocean wolverine and honey badger very smart they don't want to follow nobody's rules.. all they want to do is just live their lives...
