  • Hey Ronald, this one is for you. Thanks for your support :)
The Gameroom, a series last worked on 3 years ago, makes a return today discussing a retro styled arcade Bandai Namco created and soon after abandoned. Join us as we take a look at a Pac-Man themed arcade that was discarded before it was allowed to thrive.
Hi everyone. Some of you may have read our recent community post. The fact is, we do not really know why but our channel is suffering. We do not get nearly the views, retention, or engagement we used to. This is why we took such a prolonged break. This was a video we really wanted to work on but were afraid no one would watch. But courtesy of Aaron, another collector behind this account, we decided to release the video anyway. Because whether this video succeeds or not, it is a story we wanted to tell. We are unsure of the future of the channel, so I guess we will just see how this video performs.
    Thanks for watching, everyone.

We took a many month long break because the channel is simply performing horribly. We are unsure of the future of the channel, but whether this video does well or tanks - this was a story we simply wanted to share. Enjoy.

Namco as a company is very financially responsible. They survived the pandemic relatively okay.
This is in contrast to Sega who are known for being big spenders. They were not in a good position to survive the pandemic and had to sell all their Sega arcades in Japan and Asia to survive.
Namco was able to keep their arcades in Japan and Asia open. They even bought some of Sega's former arcade locations.
I'm sure with enough time that perhaps Namco might change their mind in the future and try again with Arcades.

This is sad that I didn’t know this until now. I try to keep up with information about PAC-MAN or arcades and me learning they were small arcades themed with PAC-MAN but died out shortly is depressing. Thank you for making this video.

RUclips's algorithm is often cruel to creators who genuinely care and put in the time and effort. It sucks to see the channel not doing well statistically, I hope this isn't the end!

Guess you missed that he keyword-spammed ABANDONED in the title to try to suck in people looking for a video about an abandoned space?

I swear I saw one at my local Walmart a few years back, I was there with my mom for something and I just remember seeing the Pac-Man statue with a bunch of games behind him, now where it used to be is a barbershop

It seems today you can't visit an Arcade without at least ONE machine having a BSOD on the screen.

I believe i've been to one of these before. It was a while back, maybe a few years ago? I was on vacation to SC and when I went to a mall there I came across this old arcade room. It looked empty, and about the same size as shown in this video. It was pretty bland, and I believe it was called Game Room or something like that. Perhaps it was one of these locations once they removed the Namco/Pac Man branding?

Here in the UK we used to visit an Arcade called Sega Zone, we went to it for a few years until our last visit on February 15th 2020, the same day me and a few friends saw the Sonic movie, unfortunately after our last visit it unfortunately closed down completely.

That's what I've heard a few of them have turned into just so a lot of the arcade cabinets don't go to waste and malls can still have an arcade. Just a lot of the namco and pac man branding had to be taken down and sent back

As much as I adore old school arcades, they'll never stick like they did in the golden age and it's on purpose. The controllers don't want people interacting with each other out in public, they want people divided, afraid of each other and locked down inside. It really wouldn't be hard at all to reignite arcades and make them extremely profitable (like they sill are in Japan). Example:
Popular games like Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft, GTA, CoD, Madden etc. could have arcade versions with exclusive loot, skins, levels, season passes, etc. that you couldn't get at home. They could even have tournaments, marathons, etc. They would make a fortune and the old school games in the arcade would get popular again real fast. It's not about money, it's about CONTROL.

Damn those would've been sweet to visit! Did you ever hear about Level 257? It was Namcos first attempt at this. I was lucky enough to go to the grand opening event which was also an official celebration of Pacs 35 anny. Toru Iwatani was there, Buckner and Garcia performed Pacman Fever, it was awesome! It also was used to promote Pixels but yeah it was eventually changed to just a straight arcade thing stripped of the official stuff. It was in Schamburg, Illinois and still exists but not 257 anymore. So sad. It also had a badass Namco gift store when you walked in.

That's so unfortunate. Namco could've made a a lot of money by auctioning the branded stuff off, instead of destroying them. Never understood that culture, really.

I peg the death of the video game arcade in 2007 the same with internet cafes, the smart phone killed those as well, but arcades made a come back in recent time becuase of prize games or crane games, its still going strong, soft gambling for kids aside, arcades have made a come back, just in a different from, but you can still enjoy a few old school games mixed in, also themed pubs and bars have adopted the games as well, its big business for arcades again.(just realised I commented to early about the resurgence factor in the video)

Best arcade in the World was Mary K's in Las Vegas.
Been to Japan and played in arcades big and small.
    Still not better then Mary.
Mary K's was the shit, if you did not get shot.
    Fighters heaven.

Never heard of this before. It's sad to see it had such a short life. While it didn't look like anything to special, it could have been a nice little place to go. Honestly looks a lot better than my local mall arcade, called the "amazing space."

Even recently during 2022 the release of Pac-Man museum plus and Pac-Man world RePac convinced me to rejoin the franchise as of 2023 I now own copies of both games for the playstation 4 they are worth owning and adding to any Pac-Man fans collection
