Anchor catfish are naturally crepuscular by nature and don't appreciate bright lighting. I've kept many over the years and they have all preferred to hide away during the day, coming out at night to search for food. They don't appreciate being disturbed in their hiding places, and certainly don't like sharing. I kept mine in a low light environment and they would venture out during the day. I fed them on blood worms, tubifex and daphnia, and they loved them. They spawned for me a couple of times but, for lack of time I couldn't rear any.

      Very informative, thank you.
I have changed my setup to low-light for this and other reasons, and have already seen an increase in activity - though I would never call them an active fish.
Since I have not fed them meaty foods thus far, they seem to eat my young neocaridina along with quality pellets, but I will try to increase my supply of fresh foods.
You said that they don’t like sharing. I have never seen them eat - with my new variety of plants still growing, but you’re saying that if I did, they would be more aggressive in their feeding response? They would hoard the food away from the others?

@@MattKeepsFish I meant they didn't like sharing their hiding places. I kept my Haras with corys and they didn't appreciate any of the corys trying to get into their caves. I provided a cave for each of them, about 14, not very big, just small enough for 1 fish to squeeze in to and wedge itself in tightly using its dorsal and pectoral spines. Sometimes, I would leave the light off during the day so I could spend time watching them when I wasn't at work. I lost my first batch of Hara jerdoni because I didn't know how shy they were when it came to feeding. The corys I housed them with proved to be much more vigorous at feeding time, and would clear all the food before the Haras had eaten enough, and they slowly faded away. I changed my routine when I got my second batch, Hara hara, I think, and these guys fared a lot better.

Well, I’m glad I planned for them to be the only catfish. In my case, although I provided the small caves, I find that they like to hide in the middle of my crypts.

Lovely fish and I like that they stay small. Merry Christmas and all the best.

I bought 3 yesterday, didn’t realise they buried themselves. Thought it had died but was hiding 😂 but agree they are fascinating little fish

What do you feed yours? I use omega one pellets and hope for the best after lights off, but I never see them eat it!

@@MattKeepsFish I put some micro pellets in with mealworm. As I only got them yesterday they need to settle in and find their way round

What floater plants do you use or reccomend? I need to get some and I'm not sure what to go with

I love salvinia! But I also have red roof floaters, duckweed, and water lettuce. I just like the look of salvinia the best because of the texture and shorter roots!
Just make sure you have lots of liquid fertilizers and high lighting!
