Toughest Fish I Ever Landed - MASSIVE 14.5kg Jack!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 23 июн 2023
- This episode has it all! We started by chasing the elusive mulloway and finished up with the toughest dive I have ever had to land a fish.
There were so many challenges dragging this 14.5kg monster into the boat. I took the shot at 40m (131ft) deep and then had to chase the jack through a cave and then fend off a shark attack on my fish. Then my reel jams at the worst possible time as I am still 20m from the surface trying the get the jack away from the shark.

For the past few years I’ve always thought “wow it would be cool if Tim made vlog style videos” and now it’s here! Love it! Keep up the great work
Awesome mate, glad you’ve enjoyed it!!
WTF The fact that you shot that jack and chased it in 40m is messed up!! CRAZY RESPECT!
I love how he spears the fish whist there’s a shark sitting underneath him and then swims over it to get the fish. That’s so cool
Epic fish mate. So stoked your back to putting up vids. I missed the days of the Down under spearfishing dvds. Keep the content coming mate. 👍😀
Cheers Mikey!!
Great dive Tim, very inspiring! Loved how you just committed to going through the cave 😂
Cheers mate, yep had to commit, to many sharks to leave it hooked up down there. Would 100% get eaten
So glad to see you back on the camera mate, and reviving Spearing down under! Keep it up!

Great video mate love watching you dive makes me wanna get back into it , your knowledge and patience when you dive and the fact that anybody else would shoot most fish you swim by the second they would see it . Keep the videos up 👍

That’s a fat battle scarred jack that one So glad that whaler didn’t get it great stuff
Most of the battle scares came from our battle 😂
Great catch and going thru the cave was extra excitement! Was holding my breath a bit 🤣 … not sure if you do cook vids but would be gd to see how you fillet and cook some if your catch! cheers

Your just on another level mate !! These vids are sick keep them coming !!
Cheers Ant!
Looking forward to seeing you make regular content! You're one of Australia's best spearfishermen. I would love to see you host some international divers like Ryan Myers and Justin Lee
Looking to post every fortnight at this stage, got a Decade of unwatched footage so plenty of content. I’ve invited Justin Lee over here a few times. I hung out with him when I was in Hawaii!
First vid that I’ve come across and what a vid. Great shot and great fish.
Cheers mate
WOW. Insane dive Tim also an incredible fish. Loving the videos.
Thanks mate
I love your diving and commentary. I live in Vanuatu and have taken some very nice man jacks but I rarely am able to dive past 30 mtrs... It would be epic if you could come dive with me off of Santo Island Vanuatu
Absolutely incredible mate. Loved every minute of the video as well
Cheers mate!! I watched your vid from the other day with the tuskies and chip crumbs, I enjoyed it! Reminds me of all the areas I dove when I first started diving!!
@@Spearfishing-Downunderaww that’s super cool! thanks Tim
Making it look easy, well done PT
It’s never easy Maddi 😂 hope you’ve been catching a few
Awesome catch mate. Not only a great fish but at such a depth.

Thanks mate
Wow
Epic mate. Thanks for sharing this awesome footage 👍
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed
@@Spearfishing-Downunder Do you ever head South down Eden way?
@@instasis4940 I’ve not really done much diving in the southern part of Aus, dove out of Bermi once. Nowra areas a little bit
I just found your channel. Great content.
Glad you found us
Great looking white sea bass! Next up, some of those yellowtail monsters you guys got. haha
Epic fish and dive Tim! I'm on the hunt for a monster Jack, absolute dream fish. It hasn't happened yet but the pursuit and trying to figure it out is half the fun.
The edditing and storytelling is top notch, can't wait to see what's next!
It will happen Cliffy, looking forward to catching up some time soon
@@Spearfishing-Downunder sounds good mate!
That would be a crazy dive at say 20mt let alone at 40mt !
Incredible diver mate-- kudos to you. Get on that GEAR though! Can't believe the knots and some of the rigging you guys use over there. You're all amazing athletes and inspire. Much love from California mate.
I’m a shocker for not doing my gear the best! 😂🤣🤦🏽♂️
From NZ too old to dive now but love the video. Mark
Thanks mate
Your Channel and you are fantastic. Exactly the spirit of very high level modern spearfishing i am also doing and looking for. Congratulations 👏👏👏💪💪💪💪
Thanks mate
@@Spearfishing-Downunder do you remember Laurent Basso, the french spearo?
We are old Friends, and we did two trips at Shark Bay 15 years ago.
Bye
It's like the aussie diving version of king kong v godzilla....EPIC
Wow
Unbelievable
Fantastic dive mate! Man, I wish we could see you compete on the world stage. I really think you would upset the Euro applecart. Although I do admit they'd try every dirty trick in the book to disrupt you.
Great video, engaging all the way through!
Glad you loved the Vid!!
Competing isn’t top of my priorities but definitely would be a great learning experience!
Biggest jack I’ve ever seen, looks like a Cubera!
Yeah it proper did look like a cubera!
Either Tim's been holding back on us for a while... or I am just blind.. maybe both 🤣Great videos Tim! Stoked to see another epic day of yours & dancing in the holes for a 12+ KG fish at 40m! Def one of the best! 🤙
Definitely been holding back for a bit to long, I’ve got 10 years of footage sitting in hard drives ready to share with everyone
@@Spearfishing-Downunder wow! I’m stoked to see what you have for us! 🤙🏾
If your vids looked like this from the start you’d def be on the top 5 for the NoobSpearo YT list 😅🙌🏾 all jokes aside I’m definitely enjoying this style of videos Tim! 🤙🏾
We just got a Jack today up here in Mackay spearfishing the islands. They are an awesome fish. Yours is prehistoric.
Awesome mate yeah they are such incredible fish!!
@@Spearfishing-Downunder that reaction time is amazing. If you're ever up Mackay way there's a good club up here, you'll have to scout out some big Jacks out of here.
@@Timbuctoo love diving up north!!!
Awesome tip about the noise with the boat to ward off the tax man! If you need a designated shark fender I am volunteering if it means I get to learn from the best. Though I don't have much bottom time at 38m not sure if I can keep up 😂
Yeah few peeps have got a bit out of the boat noise tip! So cool!
Sooo awesome the footage and content …. And you say Theres bigger ones?😮how much bigger can they get ?
Thanks mate, I recon I have seen fish that would go close to 20kg
WHAT A FISH🤔🤔🤯🤯🤯PLS do a video on what other tricks u use to scare or chase the sharks away🦈🦈👍👍
Will be something we work towards
Bruh how deep was that dive ? For a moment I thought you wouldn't make it glad you did nice catch mate
Was 39 meters
EPIC fish !! We get a few mangrove (red) snapper that size in Hong Kong , I shot one similar size but unfortunately didn't land it .
Thanks mate!
That’s cool that you get big ones like that in Hong kong!!
Great video mate. Would love to see how you cut and cook the fish👍
I’m a boring cook 😂🤣 fillet, crumb fry and eat 😂🤣
😂
Damn. That was fuckn sick!
beautiful fish and great dive
you call that a JACK but thats a Cubera snapper no ? it looks like a lot to a Cubera
Mangrove jack is thier name in Aus, similar species to cubera
Hey Tim!
Where do you get your taxidermy done????
Love ya work mate!
Hey mate
Glen Stewart on the GC has done all of my moulds
Lol where is the warning- dont try this at home folks!
Epic fish, I have a few scars from Jacks biting me as they come flying outta caves with a new piercing that makes them mad.
Hey Doug, probably a good point 😂🤣
Beast of a jack. Did you ever go back and shoot that MSP you saw off boult?
Cheers mate
No haven’t been back, I don’t dive that area very often, only did it for the Aussie titles, probably should go and look 😂
What a sick fish! Did you end up aging it?
Cheers mate, no didn’t age this one. I have aged about 20 others though
Flipping awesome! You are a machine, 38m n getting dragged through cave wrestling a fish like that then reel jam etc. Chaos! What happened with the reel? Loose loop of line?
Was the line pulled tight and jammed in the side of the reel, it’s the thicker dynes on that reel.
@@Spearfishing-Downunder ok. Is that from line not being wound tightly enough on the spool? Belt reel is a must eh!
@@fishhunter348 yeah, bit loose then when the jack ran hard it just sliced into itself
3:00 They both have the same look on their faces. Eyes just looking up, Mouth open just laying there.........
😂😂
what was the bottom time on that mate?? unreal
Hey mate around 2:20 dive
How old would that Jack be?
I couldn’t tell you exactly because I didn’t get it aged, I have had a number of them aged. Would likely be between 30-50 years old
I absolutely love your videos. So professional, so fun to watch and really makes me want to get wet! I appreciate your commitment and stoke, can’t wait for more!
Thanks mate!!!
Bro I can’t stand listening to music in RUclips videos that keep playing over and over again I would rather you sing or walk us through your experience. The ocean has its own music so I’m not watching it. From a Cook Islander
Hey mate thanks for the feedback, if you did watch you’d see I’m actually talking through the entire experience 😊
Drop weighting isn't in the spirit of Freediving. I also would like to point out Mangrove Jack's of this size are woeful as table fish. Taking large breeding fish like this using questionable techniques is deplorable. 👈
🤦🏽♂️😂🤣
What's the best way to find mates who are Into or wanting to start spearfishing
There are lots of Spearfishing clubs, join Aug and find a club, but I recon it’s a great episode to start with 😊
