Most people associate Google with Sundar Pichai or its founders, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin. But, there was arguably a much more important CEO at the company, Eric Schmidt. Eric Schmidt took over as Google CEO in July of 2001 after Larry Page fired all project managers in a fit of rage. Originally, Eric’s job was to babysit Larry Page and Sergey Brin, but he would turn into one of the company’s greatest assets. Instead of babysitting the founders, he would take care of all of the monotonous work of being CEO. This way, the founders could focus their efforts on long-term goals, acquisitions, and visions. He would serve as Google’s CEO for nearly 10 years before handing over the reins to Larry Page, and almost instantaneously, you could see how big of a role Eric had played as Larry would revert back to his old tendencies quite quickly. This video explains the life and rise of Eric Schmidt and how he saved Google from its own founders.

What do you mean by forgotten? Schmidt is well known in the tech industry and if you talking about how the average person doesn't know him - the average person doesn't know Larry Page either.
He just needed the title lmao
It's true that he made the fake title to get clicks , but honestly there are probably people like me who don't know schmidt and know Larry page but they must be comparatively few in number
I agree with this. I still have to remind myself that Schmidt isn't still the CEO 😂😂😂
Most of the people outside US don't know him so it's still relevant title
Where the fuck u did ur research , any statistics? What was ur sample size ?
Bro just used a title and this guy here blabbering anything he wishes
Eric Schmidt hardly forgotten, and is well known in the tech community, from Sun Microsystems to Google CEO to his work for various DoD related groups like DIUx.
In india, not many people know about him. They only know Sundar Pichai, Larry Page and Sergey Brin but I definitely knew about him, I've read his book "How Google Works"
Thank you for the video, Harry. And yes, having followed Google since the early years - when I switched from Altavista to Google - I knew well about Mr. Schmidt.
Greetings,
Anthony
Damn, that would be cool to work at Google in his time. But the way, it's Hari, not Harry 🙂
Awesome stuff. Never knew about the guy and how important he was
Thanks Matt!
You made the video like it’s a law and order episode 😅
But in 2001 many tech companies had a rough start in building a stable structure for a better work mentality I do think that placing Eric as a head was a great idea hearing and even I didn’t know about Eric so thanks for that 👍
Amazing video ❤
But I’m still happy that he let them rick roll everyone on RUclips 😂
Hahaha he did give them quite some freedom
@@LogicallyAnswered boring video
@@masternobody1896 You probably have 0 friends
@@LeoMessiEnjoyer WRONG! He has 1 friend. Himself
You never heard of punctuation, or were school to hard for you?
I never thought much about Eric Schmidt, but dang if I'm not impressed now. Great video
I for one wished he hadn’t left as his years were the golden years at google. All good things must come to an end eventually.
PMs are important. Jesus Christ. 😂 LP was doing exactly what he was mad about: imposing his lack of technical knowledge (about project management) on knowledgeable technical!!
Great video. Thanks
Thanks Fahmi!
Thanks for this video ... Logically answered!
You mean "product manager" not "project manager". Very different roles. Sundar was a product manager
What Larry Paige was trying to do is similar to what they do at Valve
Thanks brother!! Have a job interview coming up!! Have a great weekend!!
Good luck Daniel!
sound effects are a bit much...
The sound effect is too loud and too much. It's distracting from the video with all the voom voom that's louder than your voice.
Eric is one of the best CEOs of all time
As always an excellent and clear story. 😊
Thanks man!
@@LogicallyAnswered you said Larry and page could acquire any company anytime without telling Eric but they weren't able to make a browser without the permission of Eric, how is this possible ?Larry and page acquired maps,RUclips so why did you say Eric made progress in video sharing, map etc?
No one delivers that "Eric Schmidt" feeling as well as Eric Schmidt. He is arguably the most polished CEO in modern Big Tech.
Hey recently researched about it
Love the way you presented it
Keep it up
Thank you Abhay!
I loved this.
That’s.. pretty interesting not gonna lie
Great stories must be told in perfect manner
Eric Schmidt reminds me of George Martin's role with the Beatles.
Btw nice video as always i enjoy these and btw keep up the work
Thank you Jesko!
@@LogicallyAnswered no problem
What a legend
Love these type of videos.
Thanks Kayn!
Bro that thumbnail guy kinda reminds me of the thumb creatures from the spy kids movie Lmao
Hey hari 👍🏼.. how r u bro
Btw, yt is still not recommending me your vids these days
Good man, the algorithm works in mysterious ways haha
Not always is product needed. Engineers can decide n make better tasks, if they develop use of own product
Without clicking I know you’ll be talking about Eric Schmidt
isn't he the guy who decided "don't be evil" isn't a good slogan? lmao
Me : Time to sleep
RUclips : Logically Answered just uploaded a video.
Hahaha
I have read few of his books trillion dollar coach, the age of ai and how google works.
Great video
Thanks Mitchell!
Imagine if yahoo won
he earned 2 billion a year for ten years....and we wonder what is wrong with the economy 🤷
shout out to those people in elementary school who used novell
That makes me wonder, how does Elon handle this😮
Elon hates managers too. But he knew they are needed. So there are lots of managers in Tesla and other cos, making project seamless
Martin Eberhart has very different reviews. It's almost a certainty that Tesla would have failed if Elon didn't replace Martin as CEO, yet Martin's friends make it sound like Elon stole the company from him.
The real question is what has Martin done since. Another successful startup? A unicorn like Redwood Materials?
Great video about Google.
Thanks Philip!
It's always the biggest criminals that continue to get videos made about them...
reduce background music or buy a new mic
I love the story of google never gets boring
Eric Schmidt is a total spook
How so haha
So much for Google, it couldn't figure out what kind of channel I liked and I've been looking for till now :p I am glad it somehow suggested your channel after several attempts hunting for a worthy channel in the "New to you" section. I took a quick glance at your videos and this is exactly the kind of channel I have been waiting for. Super excited to watch them all!
Thank you so much Bharath!

This video title is extremely misleading going on absurd...
I enjoyed the video, but I personally think the low woosh sound effect that accompanies every movement of on-screen elements is a little too loud.

Thanks for being early Ashish
The founders did disappear so it’s good that there’s that!!
Yes, because replacing them with corporate lapdog business men that's willing to do any unethical thing for profit is so much better.
I personally agree with Larry page, and don't understand why the engineers would fight back i would love to have that level of freedom, not having some asshole breathing on my neck telling me what to do and when to turn it in, I'm as baffled as Larry was when there was push-back for it, like, are google engineers "smart" but uncap[able of free thinking ?
Chainlink
wow
He also had a natural gift for saying really stupid things. I remember once, in front of a large audience of security and IT professionals, he said that android was the most secure mobile operating system. He was greeted with open laughter and mockery
As a CEO, you are a salesman too. You need to bluff. This is reality.
@@train_xc That's type facts
There's no way you can talk badly about your own business and Brand. But obviously lying is a huge NO NO a well.
That's why I would try to not make big statements that puts a bulls eye on you
@@JDBass36 technically he is not lying. “Most secure” is a very subjective term. Different metrics gives different inferences, some including the android
Is Pichai the mix of Larry and Erik
He’s his own breed haha
The DoD and the CIA
It wasn't Eric for the products you named. Yes he was the CEO but he isn't directly responsible for their success or the ideas. Sundar Pichai is a different beast altogether.
Also Larry was right, Now in Google the first ones to be fired are Engineers and not managers. What they needed was really engineers taking up 30% or so time in management. Most engineering teams are mostly self managed, only thing managers do is create reports, be passive aggressive and take credit for the work your team does and end up getting promoted.
Resource management? Really? If you are a good engineer you must be capable of managing resources and people. When managers come into the equation, the work is all about getting a promotion and not building the product. Would doctors ever stoop to the level of being managed by a manager, Senior Doctors manage other doctors, this includes hiring, managing rotas, reports etc. but engineers happily put their heads down, kneel and do as they are said. If you are in this category, you deserve to be fired and don't complain when you will be.
Your videos have become click baity now 😢
Good content, shit title. I don't think anyone that knows anything about tech and Google would say Eric Schmidt is "forgotten".
Really? I feel like the average person thinks Google = Sundar Pichai
@@LogicallyAnswered Yes, really.
Pichai has been CEO of Alphabet/Google going on 8 years now. So sure someone may think of him first. However to think Schmidt is forgotten is short sighted.
Stop making same videos. Not logical
Appreciate the feedback Azhar
The video is nice , you are the problem
Only reason I comment is because I know you replay 😂😂
Hahaha
Great video! And to answer your question about learning more about business legends, yes, especially Steve Jobs. Was he really that brilliant visionary or is that too much credit for him? After all, he tried to cure his cancer with some bullshit diet. Not so brilliant i think 💟
Plz don't stop love from India
Thanks hector!
