If you’re familiar with Silicon Valley and the startup world, there’s one name that you’ll hear over and over again: Sequoia Capital. On the surface, they’re just another VC firm, but behind the scenes, they were the architects of Silicon Valley having been in business since the early 1970s. In fact, they’ve funded everyone from Apple and Atari to Stripe, Zoom, and Doordash, and much of the firm’s success can be attributed to the brilliant principles of Don Valentine. One of his top principles is to hire an expert to do a job instead of trying to do it themselves. This is the primary reason that Sequoia has been able to survive for so many decades. They’re constantly hiring younger talent to identify the next generation of companies, so they’re always investing in the right places. They’ve also got experts around the world who specialize in identifying investment opportunities in China and India. This video explains the history of Sequoia Capital and how it became the most well-known VC firm in the world.

They grew so strong to a point where they now have a Buffet effect in scale.
The companies they support also get a higher chance of success after being labelled as "Sequoia-backed".
I've seen that similar thumbnail somewhere.... Great video Brethren!🦍
I watch urs too. u doing great lately
😂😂😂😂😂
At least credit my guy
Damn, this is really disappointing. I mean, he straight out ripped off his thumbnail and probably the idea too.
It's okay to be inspired, but put your own creative spin on it
You have seen that thumbnail on George Soros video on Jake Tran's channel. Seems like you also copied from there.
I actually heard of them when I was looking for a new job last year and saw they invested into a few of the companies I was interviewing for but I didn't know they were this massive and historic. Sheesh. Appreciate the video.
Thanks for watching Paulie!
I've actually been to one of sequoia offices as a contractor but I had no idea they had such history.
Their ability to score such leading companies is amazing
Over such a long time period too?
Sure.
Numbers game.
they don't miss
@@green_universethey miss a lot but the wins are so big they dwarf the losses.

I've heard of Sequoia capital, but I had no idea of their massive impact
It's daunting to hear that CISCO, a company that now effectively runs the internet, was at one point - DESPERATE:
Can't imagine what deal in terms of data-sharing they signed.
Same goes for all the other companies. DATA is power. Sequoia has all of it.
It's interesting to see Don's philosophy in a way that makes me wonder if it can be implemented into other VC ventures instead of the VC themselves doing it their own traditional ways. The idea of passing the torch to their employees, much like instructing the new generation what to go off of is something I would do the same in my own film company, to lay the ground work for what could possibly happen in the late 21st century into the 2100s and 2200s, even if some of us from the 20th century have long passed on by the time the 21st century comes to an end.
I had no idea that this company was the one that pretty much funded multitude of companies both worldwide and national, and now I know thanks to this video.
Really well documented video, great work Hari!! Keep it up
Thank you Darp!
Jesus christ the editing on this video is on another level!
Text flying left and right, it's amazing!
Also amazing is the fact that I didn't know of the existance of Sequoia (Also apperently every other person I've asked hasn't heard of them)
Really appreciate that bro! In that case, I think you’re gonna love a super special video that we have coming out in the next week or two. Been working on it for over 2 months now.
@@LogicallyAnswered can't wait to watch it!
@@LogicallyAnswered Have you started using AI to help with your video editing?
Right? Using the stock video of a character saying "no" while simultaneously using a voiceover was cool too.
Another amazing video. Excellent journalism. Really shows light on all the videos.
Thank you so much bro!
Brother, will you be doing a video of the Silicon Valley bank collapse?? That would be amazing!!
Hmmm, not sure. Seems like it’s covered quite a lot already
@@LogicallyAnswered It kind of is, but it also isn't. It's also such a big topic, you could go about it for a while and still find new material depending on how deep you want to look. That'd be kind of cool but understandable if you prioritize less covered topics, you have a great channel. Honestly, in my mind you can't go wrong. I'm gonna watch it either way XD
It is so refreshing to see a person, not to mention a company, who does not let the success make super arrogant. Understanding own limitations and work around them is a sign of truly smart people.
@@LogicallyAnswered You’re right, I probably won’t watch it bc it’s already covered so much. Maybe do a video on Phil Spencer’s Xbox interview and Microsoft selling Xbox rumors
I like the new cadence to your voice. As always, another great video!
Warren buffet is known as the goat of investing, well this makes me reconsider that statement.
Buffett is still the goat of investing - Sequoia are a VC firm that invest in seed stage to growth stage startups, Warren Buffett invests in the stock market and established companies. Sequoia are the goat VC firm.
Fantastic video, love the new format. Just curious, why are there constantly bubbles moving upwards on the screen? They're a schmidge annoying? Everything else is A+, keep up the good work!!
Really appreciate the feedback chase. That was more of a stylistic choice, will reconsider it.
Lovely. Great inspiring story and legacy.
Great explanation and presentation!
The voice too!!! the editing is sick!!
Really appreciate the feedback bro!
Great data, 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👑💎
I know its gonna be wild request but can you make a video about Unitra? Its an electronics company that was making very reliable radios and other radiocommunication equipment. Phones etc since 1949 to 1989.
thats what happens when you get a time machine)
Thanks for the great video Logically Answered.
Thanks for your support Philip!
Well BharatPe had some controversies but calling it fraudulent is stretching it
Nice video man😊
great work
In India if sequoia capital has not invested in your company then your company doing something wrong 😂😂
They have literally invested in every company you can think of
After the initial success, the rest has the helping hand from the wealthy people connections, if you can't join the club, you need to hook up to someone who do.
Great video
This channel teaches us internet history. Great content as always
love 2:26 text "this is a demo text. You can clear copy and paste from..."
The art an beauty of investing
Anyone who work in investment banking or at least in finance know Sequoia, not so shadowy tho.
The only dude that REALLY saw the potential of Steve Jobs at the very first beginning.
Sure you aren’t studying economics? You sure know a lot! Keep up the good content!! :DD
How do you create your videos? What tools do you use?

Amazing

Oops
If they’re worth $5 trillion, does that mean they kept their shares in the companies and never sold? Or do they sell small parts of their shares over time?
they are not worth $5 trillion. though the title is not click bait. what he means is that the sum of all the companies they invested in early on are now worth over 5 trillion which is common for investment firms to brag about. the firm itself only has $28b in assets under managment. this come from examples like investing 60m in whatsapp and getting 3b when facebook bought it.
also note that VC firms gamble on new companies. and are quite different from institutional investors that mostly invest in well established companies like Blackrock with 10 trillion USD in AUM in 2021. also a lot of VC firms gamble their own money while the big funds gamble money from lots and lots of people
Sequoia doesn't own these companies, title was misleading
You should do a video on Renaissance Technologies!
Thanks for the suggestion man!
Need a video about tiger global and KKR
What's wrong with zilingo and bharatpe and trell? I couldn't find why they failed.
0:44 wow
Nice
Now these dudes Rug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha, they’d be sabotaging themselves
What the heck is with the "demo text" between scenes?
Wow
Sequoia got their hands in politics too
2:25 this is a demo text
Hello there
Can anyone guide Me to connect with SEQUOIA CAPITAL
in other words he used he monopoly to kick everyone else out.
Blck Rocks is having tough times as banking sector gets hit
Brother why is bharatpe on the list of controversial investment list?
does sequioa still own apple stock?
They sold it after getting a 40x return. Not sure if they bought back in later.
I can draw from this that this company is as good if not superior than Berkshire and has similar command, but the top management is an antithesis in real life.
2:27 u should remove the default text from your background.
❤
How do you think that Bharatpe is fraudulent?
I was going to ask the same question.
Why is it that increasingly in economic or finance talk, multiplication of for example profit or dividend is being worded as "Forty Ecks", or, 40 X, thereby sounding like an elementary school dropout who is merely trying to read out a bit of text without any understanding? What happened to "Forty times", which would be the proper English way of stating a multiplication factor?
Buzzwords
We have achieved ten times growth:😴
We have achieved 10X growth:🤯🥳
Yeah it's annoying
it's easy. invest in every new firms :D
What is a VC?
Venture Capital firm haha
Just tell ME how can I connect with SEQUOIA
The joke "it's not rocket science, but they do invest in rocket science" would have worked much better if you not mentoned SpaceX 5sec before ..:) - anyway, very interesting video, thanks!
😂
| thought Blackrock was the grand daddy of all these big companies.
first!
Berkshire Hathway's also pretty big too!
Facts, but they invest in value companies, not Silicon Valley
@@LogicallyAnswered yes true..
I was thinking BlackRock was a monopoly
Hahaha
That's because you don't understand what BlackRock does
totally different fields. Blackrock is risk managment company. they take other people money and try their best to keep it from getting nuke by crashes. a wealth preserver.
VCs are the biggest risk takers in investing. they hope the money they give you is going to be worth x100 or go up in smoke.
when a recession comes and most tech startup fail VCs take a big hit. while Blackrock customers can be happy they lost less money that the rest of people.

RATHEON......
I know who you are Jeffrey
Google & Wiki says sequoia has only $85 billion in AUM ...... not sure how you got to trillions 😂
They are talking about the total value of all the companies they are invested in, not just Sequoia’s stake.
1:57 wait a second.....BharatPe and fraudulent?? Could you please elaborate on that? BharatPe is the biggest upi client for merchants in the whole country, so shedding light would be very useful.
www.livemint.com/companies/news/bharatpe-sues-former-md-ashneer-grover-for-fraud/amp-11670523800678.html
@@LogicallyAnswered I'm sorry, but isn't Ashneer Grover no longer associated to BharatPe, and the case currently going on is with the co-founders, but actually there aren't any "fraudulent" activities going on with BharatPe itself? Just curious to know. Perhaps a video on this topic please??
@@LogicallyAnsweredyou are wrong here
Jake Tran 😂😂😂
Why is bharatpe considered evil? Genuine question here
i knew tik tok wasn't chinese lol
I think you mean "bankers."
This thumbnail is similar to the video on George Soros on Jake Tran's channel.
Time travel?
I have a very important feedback for you: Please talk naturally, your content is good but not watchable because of how you speak, many people would have felt something weird or disintereting in voice, but I'm the only one going to explain in detail, YOU TALK IN A CONTROLLED WAY CONTROLLING HOW YOU SPEAK AND CLOSER TO THE MIC which makes it not watchable for you long videos. Please take that feedback it'll be really good for your channel.
First :D
Thanks for being early bro!

Thanks bro!
The bidens certainly love them kek;)
Sequoia also funded ftx 😂
how is bharatpe fraudulent?
www.livemint.com/companies/news/bharatpe-sues-former-md-ashneer-grover-for-fraud/amp-11670523800678.html
@@LogicallyAnswered What happened to Ashneer doesn't make BharatPe fradulent. BharatPe has been and still is a revolutionary company and if office politics make a company fraudulent then aren't companies like tinder whose founding team have sexual harrassment cases fradulent aswell?
Fair enough. I was just highlighting companies that put Sequoia under the spotlight in an unoptimal manner
No, it's not
Seriously barthpe? Do your research dude...
Guys, why aren't you talking about PapayaHub?
Where are Vanguard and BlackRock . They are bigger than Sequoia
