Louis Vuitton CEO, Bernard Arnault, is now the richest person in the world having toppled all of the tech billionaires like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Bill Gates. But, Bernard’s rise to the top was anything but elegant. Given that he didn’t found any of the companies that he now owns, his entire rise consists of corporate raiding, hostile takeovers, and aggressive deals. Bernard approached Gucci with this same mentality, but to everyone’s surprise, Gucci would put up the fight of their lives and successfully evade the clutches of Bernard. First, Gucci would dilute their stock by issuing new stock. This would make Bernard’s stake less and less valuable. Next, Gucci would assign this stock to employees through a stock compensation program. This way, a significant portion of stock would be locked up until the vesting period ends. And finally, Gucci would find a white knight savior to buy up a large enough stake in the company so that it would be impossible for Bernard to achieve a majority stake. This video tells the insane story of how Gucci was able to defend themselves from a hostile takeover and how Louis Vuitton got humiliated trying to acquire Gucci.

on Wikipedia it also says that Pinault also offloaded his leading retail assets just to invest in Gucci. One hell of a gamble
No doubt haha
Paid off.
if luxury is symbolic of anything, its definitely brutal backstabbing and image over morality... and look as good as possible while doing it.
Morality is a socialal construct depends from place to place and history
@@AmritenduRana31082000 Why don't you go around killing random people, since it's just a social construct?
AND HIP HOP DOING CRIMES WHILE WEARING GUCCI HEADBANDS. CRIME CRIME CRIME STEAL HIPPA DA HOOPY
Proud to say I have not contributed a single dollar to that man's wealth 😀
Money circulates... If you buy food, then the employees at the shop will get paid with that money, and they may choose to buy Luis Vuitton, pumping up its stocks, boom - You contributed
@@internet_userr what if..the employees there only make 150 dollars a month :D
😂
@@internet_userr What a brutal answer lol
Also if you have a girlfriend or wife and you or they shopped at Sephora, you contributed.
gives "gucci gang" a whole new meaning
I can hear it now haha
Bro I love this corporate content... hostile takeovers blocked? Chefs Kiss! Thank you and keep producing awesome content!
They managed to avoid a takeover by the largest luxury group… by joining the 2nd largest one (and also french). And in both groups, brands still have a lot of autonomy anyway. Makes you wonder what was the real reason why they didn’t want to go with Arnault (personal?).
It's hard to understand if you're not French but some brands have different philosophy, like Hermes they are luxury brands but don't have the same mentality of LVMH of new money accessories. They think they have more noble strong brand and don't want to be a mass production lowering their quality for profits destroying their image in the process. Of course I know in some countries people don't see the difference between a brand like Hermes and Vuitton. Gucci kinda has been leaning LVMH mentality in the past decade.
Another reason also is that if LVMH bought Gucci they would have most probably fired the current execs, and making their voting stake in the company less relevant, since the executives don't want that they will obviously fight for it, being part of the other smaller group is better for Gucci.
That’s beyond obvious nobody is wondering lol
What an amazing story and perfectly told!
Thank you Chris!
This honestly makes me respect Gucci a lot. If i were into designer clothes I would be buying Gucci, but I'm not so all I can say is, nice
Wait until you know the story behind the making of Gucci.
@@vijaysinghpatel3156 true LV is angel compared to what gucci did over the years and in terms of quality and design gucci dont come even close to LV for the prices u pay
I go with Gucci anyday! This guy Arnault seems to never have created Anything in relation to the fashion industry. Just simply buys companies for a large conglomerate. Prefer the family run companies.
@@marcocarlson1693 Gucci is owned by the Kering group, so it is the same (smaller) as LVMH group owned by Arnault. If you like family run businesses you have Hermes that still has the founding family in its shareholders, Cuccinelli (luxury cashmere) , Armani, Versace(almost), Prada ,Missoni, Ferragamo and Conreliani.
For me the best option is to go to your local tailor / leather artisan and will probably get the same quality for a fair price but with proper customer care.
Cheers from Italy
Gucci is for rich people.
I bet he’s still not over it
Hahaha
Nope he wants Hermes…badly too!
The editing of this one is kinda weird. It's really "Jake Tran-esque" idk it just seems like every channel like this starts off having a unique style and then they all eventually converge into the same style of constant cuts and swipes with never ending intense music
second this
It's turning into some generic shit...
Yeah I agree the music in particular feels really out of place
Trueeee
Hmm ok, really appreciate the feedback Afraaz
I’m loving this direction of your channel. PLEASE keep up this great content!
This sounds like a typical corporate TV show arc line. And it's astonishing how entertaining it is.
My aunt works at LV bag factory here in the Philippines and guess what? We all have LVs bags, pouch and anything "bag like". The secret is if an item has a "defect" upon inspection, it will be thrown into a "recycling bin" or in the bin where they burn it. But these recycling bins are managed by co-workers and they've managed to be united on how, when and where to take things without the fear of being notice.... Anyone wants a bag or pouch or anything? I can send it to you.
I'ma need me a pair🌚
I want one too
Nice try. Trying to scam people.
This was an incredible story. Thanks for telling it so well
New to your channel, love your content and work.
Thank you so much Ram!
@@LogicallyAnswered you might not believe it, but I personally rank you amongst the absolutely very very top tier creators on RUclips.
Man I love this channel. This made my day and left me with a smile.
Really glad to hear that man!
Fascinating - the case, and the moves in hostile take over offense and defence.
Another great video. Thanks brother!!
Thank you as always Daniel!
I've been subscribed for 2 years now. This is by far my favorite video from this channel
Would love more of these corporate related videos
Awesome video! The storytelling is really superb! Take a bow, that is a job really well done.
Thank you Lloyd!
Great content, i have just discovered this channel last week and I´m only amazed with its quality.
Keep doing this way
Thanks bro!
When I heard arnault i thought it was the car.
Turns out it was Renault.
This was super cool. Probably my favourite of your videos so far. It's like the show Billions but in real life
Love the new editing, makes it harder to drift off while watching and keeps me focused!
Really appreciate the positive feedback bro!
This was such a ride, i could feel how De Sole felt in the tense and hard moments, and could feel the relief after the Pinault deal
This channel is a gem
This is one of my new favorite videos of yours. Great storytelling!
Thank you so much man!
Great video! I’m happy more & more are learning of designer & especially Bernard, he’s the definition of monopoly man

Was really cool and interesting story telling
Thanks Aang!
Long time sub here, really love the content and excellent video. But please don't go too deep into this kind of fast pace content. I think your channel has already a unique style.
Just my 2 cents. But I believe you will make the best decision to grow. Keep up the good work.
Really appreciate the feedback Kevin!
Hey man, sick video production.
Thank you Dhruvil!
This video was good never backtracked it kept on getting more and more interesting
Does knowing these brands are all owned by the same person(Bernard), make someone not want to buy these luxury products?
Hahaha
At least he doesn’t own the big players in the Swiss watch industry. Rolex or pateks of this world. Ill never buy designer clothes owned by lvmh but a Luxury watch that’s not hublot or lvmh owned for sure.
man those are some sick transitions, keep it up
Thank you Ambareesh!
Awesome Story!
Great video. Absolutely mind blowing. Bernard Arnault is a Silent Titan.
nah, he's just a greedy monopolist.
@@Fatherlake I’m on team greedy.
Good story!👍
My favourite episode ever! 💪🏻!
It's amazing how many brands he owns and I use none of them...must be my bank account's fault!
I would like more stories like this please
Thank you for the positive feedback bro!
@@LogicallyAnswered how do you make use of logic?
Damn you answer everyone that rlly cool
I feel like there should be a movie for this
The French government did not allow the sale of Hermes to LVMH….Hermes is still independent
I worked for two houses of LVMH and they were the absolute best company I’ve ever worked for. During the pandemic, full salaries were paid, extra money if we needed it. It’s also a very glamorous company as everyone is part of one thing that’s greatness and parties, free Louis and YsL, staff are able to stay at their wineries across the world. They’re pretty amazing.
So what? My full salary was paid at Walmart during the pandemic too
@@zacharyhenderson2902 what job did you work at walmart?
@@nothomelessonyoutube at the beginning of the pandemic I was a store level Academy Trainer, and at the end of it I was an hourly Assistant Manager
Always enjoy your videos. Unbias and factual. That's what media should be. And you also sum it up nicely
Ya know... It's amazing how all these stories and big power players of the world are not well known to the public.
This is the sort of stuff that shapes the world in which we live and most of the public is unaware of the games being played behind the scenes.
Good one
This is a good one
this was great
I never knew this but it made me smile
I hate gucci as a brand, but i now love it as a company
Good video but unwatchable on my phone because your background music is too loud. I had to shut it off a few minutes into it. Might be just my phone but I'm pretty sure it's on other phones also.
Loved it
Bro, bernard is the coolest guy. Arnault gang pull up 🙌🫴🤛skkrrrt
Do people actually talk like this? Fucking cringe.
It would have been a supertrust with nearly only one company on the market so not sure it would even have been allowed.
Makes me respect Gucci a bit more
Why ?
Frankly, I rather be invested in this kind of war than the other one
I'm not surprised Gucci did this. There is french fashion and then there is italian fashion. Italians don't want to be under french control.
Oh, right. You are aware of the fact that Gucci is part of the french Kering group and the CEO is François-Henri Pinault. Btw he is married to Salma Hayek (funny how women always fall in love with billionaires ;-))
Doesn't it suck that we live in a world where the richest man in the world is tied to fucking fashion.....
So wonderful how we value things in this world. God, we humans are truly brilliant.
😂
Not just fashion but luxury in itself
Not a fan of fashion brands, but I respect the power moves.
I didn't knew these fashion brands also have bloodbath behind the scenes
Europe is crazy when it comes to fashion companys
Fact check: Hermès isn’t owned by LVMH, it’s one of the few brands that is fighting absorption in the empire. There’s been long lasting feud between the two companies. However LVMH does own a minority stake in Hermes.
Man that would be a tale a would tell my sons, it is so god dam dramatic I love it
What was this what the Gucci movie was about? I haven’t seen it
Not just Gucci. They tried acquiring Hermes too, but that is less dramatic.
Yes but hes still trying to acquire Hermes. It’s considered the pinnacle of luxury goods.
Ah! Tom Ford🔥
Keep your hands off my gucci
Facts!😊
hermès is not owned by Lvmh
Heard Gucchi name in a rap song never knew it's the name of a 🛍️ company 😅😅
lvmh dont own Hermes, They were issued a warning regarding a hostle take over.... Hermes stated that they would rather burn to the ground than allow LVMH take ownership
12:06 Wouldn't other shareholders also be pissed if you dilute ~30% of their shares, and not just Bernard's, by giving it to the employees?
Like there must be something that legally stopping any company's board to just create new shares and give all of them to the CEO and his cronies at the expense of the other shareholders no?
this new animations is way better
Really appreciate the feedback Jovan!
First Viewer!
Thanks for being early Rohit!
Hey dope video .. good job my gf loved it 2
This story feels like Bollywood tantrum ,whatever it is but such a twists.❤❤
Louis Vuitton is known for not paying their employees well
Hermes isn’t owned by LVMH.
This should be made into a movie with more deama
Its Like Watching KDRAMA
I love it so much........
I wish they could make 16 episodes Drama...
Fantastic...
Isn't Del sol convinced the last Family Owner of Gucci to sell only 6 months later, the company bounced back but the Family could no longer be the owners?
06:22 isn't that the Duchess of Sussex?
He doesn't own Hermès.
Try as that idiot might, it's looking like (since he hasn't by now) he may
never, ever acquire that empire.
They are totally independent, as far as I know, family owned, and wouldn't sell,
if their lives depended upon it.
Lack of clarity and loud music is all such a nuisance in listening the content. Kindly consider to redoing it in a meaningful way. Thanks
Music too loud?
Good job l. We need to throw bernand out of business.
Video quality is clearly increasing, keep it up.
Thank you Tibo!
Good content. Narrated fabulously. But just too much editing and stock footage making it tasteless at points. e.g. from 5:25 to 5:40, the stock videos have been used to link the narration's every single phrase, which just makes it tasteless and distracting. please don't lose your touch, Logically team.
Top. Notch.
Very high journalistic quality in terms of research but very poor sound mixing. Sound effect too loud and your English ist a little bit difficult to understand for English as a 2nd language speakers. Just a honest feedback :)
Never estimate your enemy or your opponent
Domenico De Sole is Italian so Sole is surely pronounced as two syllables and not as the bottom of a foot. Pinault too. It ought to sound more like pee-know.
Music is too loud makes it hard to concentrate on the story
