VIDEO EDIT: Kiel johnson
MUSIC: LOGIC MUSIC - Хобби
Is it just me or a big chunk of the process is missing? Jumped from starting rolling to all done.
I 100% agree a little disappointed
It was very disappointed.
You'll notice that the color he rolls on is like a light gray color and the finished color is a blue color. Guessing that it didn't turn out the way Home Depot and Rust-Oleum wanted it to. He probably didn't do one of the prep stages correctly and the finished result was blotchy. Rust-Oleum probably hired a local contractor to come out and do it over and correctly, which is why most of the process is missing. He probably should have just scrapped the entire video but if he did that then HD and Rust-Oleum probably wouldn't have paid him.
Matthew Silver of that is true it’s sad, but it would make sense.
@@sarahhannah9647 It could have been a great video. He had the opportunity to let his viewers know where he went wrong so that they wouldn't make the same mistake. Maybe he tried to do that but HD and Rust-Oleum wouldn't let him. When you're being sponsored by the company's product you're using you're really at their mercy. They probably said no because they don't want people to think it's hard to use the product. Epoxying a garage floor isn't an easy do-it-yourself project that most people think.
His hands probably were really tied. If he releases a video detailing his errors the sponsor might get pissed. If he doesn't release the video, the sponsor might get pissed. A pissed off sponsor means they won't sponsor you again. Both HD and Rust-Oleum pay fairly well when they sponsor videos. So he releases a subpar video in order to make sure he continues to get sponsored by those two in the future. There's really no winning here for him.
this was done in 2018 how is the floor holding up now in 2020? have the tires from your vehicle's lifted the paint?
did your drywall get wet at all? that's a concern I have with doing this project!
For a guy who usually puts together well-instructed DIY vids- this is clearly a step in the wrong direction. You definitely cut corners in this one bruv.
He screwed it up somehow and the finished result wasn't what HD and Rust-Oleum wanted. They probably paid to have a contractor come out and fix it. Would explain why the video is cut short and why what he rolled on was a gray color and the finished product is a blue color. He probably should have scrapped the whole video but probably wouldn't have been paid if he did.
@@plasmac9 Commercials can't be failures. Not how they work.
@@tranzco1173 Did you watch this video? It's a failure.
@@plasmac9 I am doing this right now, but I'm using Behr 1 step epoxy. I cleaned, then degreased, then cleaned, waited a day, then sanded with 40 grit, then etched, waited a day, then put on a concrete bonding primer, waited a day, now I am preparing to fill some cracks, and then paint, then I'm going to seal. I've done this before, and he was just trying to speed through it, and I'm sure their was no mechanical adhesion. Also, I'm in Albuquerque, and it's 7 percent humidity right now and the slab is dry. It's 40 years old, but in good condition. I diamond grinded the old tire paths, because they were super smooth.
Needs to be 1) Clean 2) Dry 3) Rough, but not down to the aggregate rough. 4)An adhesion promoting base bonding coat. 5) Then you can paint.
Yeah, this dude failed, and then they sent out someone to do an epoxy slurry, which probably cost 5k.
I did my uncles house for $240, double garage. I'm about $200 in now.
It won't fail, I'm obsessive, but if it does I won't be embarrassed to admit it. Concrete is tricky.
The Rustoleum kit encourages people to skip steps and move ahead too quickly, it takes time.I see people successfully do it in a weekend, but I take two weeks.
@@plasmac9 Watched it again, and that concrete was NOT ready to accept/absorb anything. The sheer man hours that goes into something like makes it impossible for someone to do like this. No mechanical adhesion. I bet the rescue crew just sanded the shit out of his coat, and used it as a primer coat.
People shouldn't get discouraged though, you need to be motivated to do this DIY, and not just to get sponsor money.
I epoxy slurried my entire home a very light grey, white. It's a 40 year old house and the pros quoted my 22k to do it. It's only 1200 sq. feet. I did it for about
4k. My wife has allergies, we have pets, and this almost completely cured her allergies. No more carpet.
Nicely done 👍🏽. Did you have any small cracks on your floor that needed to be filled in before applying the epoxy? O did the epoxy cover them?
Amazing!
Lacking processes in application!! Chips, clear coat?
Hi All, I. Planning on doing eproxy floor for my garage. I'm concerned about UV ray damage to eproxy floor. I came to know that some eproxy are only good for indoor. My Garage faces sun all the time. Is there any eproxy thar is safe with UV ray.
Have there been any cracks or anything since you did the floor?
Awesome Job!
thanks man
How long did it take to complete this project?
cool video, I have 3 questions if you or someone would kind to help:
what if garage f'oor is slopped towards a drain? will the epoxy run off the concrete ?
what if you have repaired cracks, does the epoxy hide it all?
what if your concrete is cracked heavily, and/or bucketed towards the the wall do you just use leveling cement and use epoxy?
I am so glad this was the first thing I did to the garage in my new house day 1. I was very glad I didn't have to do any prep work since the concrete was brand new.
Also, it's nice that your new shop is going to be more like an everyday man's shop. I don't know how all these people manager to get an entire 2 car garage as their shop! My wife would never allow that.
Kyle Veatch oh yeah. I’ve hated having dust on the cars.
So you don't need to etch concrete in a relatively new house? we've just started to build our house and wonderd if I should etch the concrete or not.
@@Clintwoodz yes you should still etch just not degrease on new concrete.
@@Clintwoodz also fill in cracks with self leveling concrete caulk and let dry a few days first.. youll be glad you did!!!!
I just built a townhome and have a 2 car garage. Moved in 6 weeks ago - have not brought the cars in the garage yet, and the floor is like a chalky concrete. Can you tell me which of the first steps I can skip - like what is my starting point since my floor is raw and was poured only a few months ago. Thanks
The problem with this is the etching etching! Nothing beats doing it with a buffer and diamond head pad.
I've heard these types of floor only last 2-5 years is there any updates after 2 years of use?
Thank-you for the tips! It looks great!
Good job
How did you get the blue finish from the creamy paint ? 😆
What did you do with the concert gap in the bottom of the wall? Thanks
Rubber floor base
Am i the only one that thinks this video should’ve been longer? All i got was Home depot, rustoleum degreaser n brush. I dont knw, just felt like 6 mins wasted here. But, glad it worked out for u bud.
I am new to the channel. You have improved your technique significantly since 2018 lol
"Man, talk about prep work."
How does the concrete etch go on a painted driveway will it stain or ruin my driveway while cleaning my garage?
good question, never tried. maybe experiment on a small corner patch?
Concrete etcher is just that, cant put it over paint, you will have a gunky mess in your hands, best to chip off any loose paint, degrease the floor, use a bonding primer then paint of epoxy it. Keep in mind, whatever you apply is just as good as what's underneath, so clean it very good, no dust no chips. Good luck bud
Also you can pick up a gallon of Concrete and driveway cleaner at your local HD. That works better than a degreaser over what you have instead of an etcher. Then degrease it, bond prime it then paint or epoxy. That Rustoleaum brand has a lot of nice kits and metallics also, the kits can be expensive but they have 1 part epoxy gallons and decorative flakes, also clear gloss top coats too. 😀
Can we maybe, oh I don’t know... See it finished?
NOTE YOU SHOULD HAVE FILLED IN THE GAPS LINES WITH SELF LEVELING CONCRETE CAULK OR DIRT GETS TRAPPED. MISTAKE NOT DOING FROM MY FIRST HOUSE OF MINE I DID.
Your CAPS Lock is ON
No. The epoxy will not bind to that material. Nice try scrub.
Nice! Looks good. Smart investment
i love every day i get to walk on it
Mr. Buildit good! May i ask you what camera you use for filming? I use a nikon d5100 dslr camera but i always have a problem with light.
80% advertisement with just a touch of “how to” thrown in occasionally.
True
The floors are done let me not show them and just have the camera on me.
Nice video...should of showed when you dropped the flakes
Must have not gone well that we don’t see the finished floors and the other steps. 😂
I guess when they say "for dummies", they expect you to believe that it's done after you start to apply concrete or primer?. I want my time back
👍🏻👍🏻
How long did it take to do the floors?
Greg Sherbon 5-8 hrs
how are the floors now in 2020
What's the purpose of an epoxy floor?
You affiliate link is broken.
After this hard work there should be at least a close up of finished floor.
So didn't see any crack repair. Very seldom been in a garage without a crack somewhere
Zach Scott been 7 days now. So far so good
Mr. Buildit no i meant before you layed gte floor, maybe it is just where I live but most concrete around these parts has cracks. If it doesn't you got lucky.
which part of the country are you in?
Mr. Buildit east Tennessee
must be all the humidity
So what if your existing floor is not smooth?
Rito Luis you get to do lots of grinding and sanding 😂
aka not fun
Does no one own a garden spray nozzle anymore?
Nope. Why own one if you don’t have a garden ?
@@MrBuildit So you don't waste water.
You needed to grind the floors first and also fill the control joints with a semi hard filler like Euclid Quickjoint 200. Good luck lol
I got a bad batch of the rock solid kit and before I could even finish the square I was working on, the bag solidified my fiancé pours it on the floor and it was instant tacky glue what a nightmare I had to scrape and sand before I could finish and that was after going and purchasing another kit 560$ into it I will never do this shit again
Just flexing on us.
Did you get the over exaggerated hand gestures from Home Depot, or did they come from TedTalks!?
This video is such a joke. "Let me show you how to epoxy your garage, but not actually show what I did"
You didn't show spreading the paint chips. You didn't show applying the top coat. Did you even do this yourself or did your camera screw up for the last 50% of the project and you had to put *something* out or risk having to pay for the product?
Normally love your videos. This one smells fishy. I'm betting on someone else did the work and yours ended up on the cutting room floor.
Bro you Jumped the main process content talk about cutting corners
I want paint my garage but lot of stuff inside.
Allie Li yeah me too. I loved everything into the driveway
Beginning part contained useful information but your missing half of the process, I will search for other videos as this did not help.
Damn you look diff
"broomed the floor"
now I really don't want to try this. LOL. Skipped the whole second half. Something must not have gone right. eek.
does not hold up over time!!!
video time 6:00- prep for about 4, cut-in about 50-seconds, praise work remainder. Not very helpful
Did I seriously just watch this whole thing and you did NOT show the FINAL RESULTS of your work? Wtf?
no work is shown.... waste of my time
Love your enthusiasm but you skip of the entire process of half your videos. I learned nothing.
Did we even see exactly what product he used other than the degreaser? What a disappointment this video was. I’ve seen people with Samsung phone tutorials be more thorough
Clearly you made a series of mistakes and cut out all of them... did not eve prep the floors nicely with a diamond sanding
Terrible you didn’t show anything! I scrubbed, degreased, used a floor maintainer with diamond blades and etched and skinned my floor, then cleaned again with muriatic acid and the etch that came with the kit. Then I filled all my expansion joints with self leveling Sika caulk. Then I applied the epoxy after my floors dried for 3 days and I sample tested the concrete with plastic to check for humidity.
If you follow this video you won’t learn much other than he likes to wear socks on his floor. 😢
That was pathetic.
Waste of time... this is just advertising the product that's it.
I’m sorry sir but you talk more than your work you did not explain enough how you do the job
Fail.
I'm not buying this one bit
wtf is this? A tutorial on how to clean a floor?
Is this a commercial or a DIY. you wasted my time
