HEY. I'm usually that one student who does small talks with teachers. So I'm going to just say what I usually do. First I start my asking some small question, like on how teacher prefers us to write down date (in my region we have three types of date writing) or where they got their pen/pencilcase/anything. Any small question would work. Then i try to catch an ideas of what to say next in their answear and make it as much related to subject as possible. For example i recently had a small talk with my biology teacher which actually started with me asking what is her favorite biology topic what led to discussing pets. And that actually helps with tests a lot! Teachers often don't mind answering my questions on tests and anything like that so i pass easier. And also a note: always! be nice to them. Help as much as you can and make their work easier (for example if they chekc notes - do your notes neat and clean). Hope this helps!
