We do a version of this called a 3 minute run, you go down on each line do a push up and sprint back, if you don’t do it in under 3 mins, you do it again until you do
Wow! That’s character building as well as endurance building! Have you ever done a Bronco? Imagine if that’s your benchmark for that challenge there’ll be some good Bronco times too!
Did these - preseason school rugga, but we had to tap the mark with our hands and also do burpees on the opposite end. Add that to the sesh and its def a 10/10. And…If the coach was having a bad day he’d make us do it until the slowest and biggest of the forwards finished their set- (chewing on the lunch again at that point)
Had an ex Wales International as a coach during secondary school, had us doing these but from one try line you ran to the 5 and back, then 10 and back, then 20 and back and so on and so on, all the way to the other tryline. They were known as 'suicide runs' and by god they made you feel ill, but they sure did got you fit.
Just read another comment where they mention doing these whilst having to touch the mark and chucking a few burpees in - brought back memories of being subjected to that too. Also, supersetting the 'suicide runs' with sprints up the sideline from one tryline to another, then from one corner sprinting diagonally across the pitch to the other corner and then sprinting back up the other sideline and so on until you had covered each corner...brutal but fun when you had finished.
Yeah think she admitted she could’ve took off quicker and used that little bit more at the end! Still a mega effort for a first run! Did Greg’s time shock you?
In high school we had a paved walkway up a steep incline over 60m. Coach put a man with a tackle bag at intervals at 20m/40m/60m (top of hill). Four groups of 3 (each group takes a turn holding the bags). Coach starts us each individually one after the other...Up 20m...hit the bag...run to bottom...up 40m...hit the bag...run to bottom..up 60m...hit the bag...run to bottom. Group whose next on bags must switch over and while switching that was the only time the rest of the runners got a rest. Once they got to their bags and the other group gets down to the bottom we rinse/repeat. Coach penalized us with additional running if we didn't hit the bags with proper force. This was gruelling.
We did it differently here in South Africa. We literally ran something called "Suicides" We ran from one end to the 22 then back. Then ran to the 50, then back. Then ran to the opposite 22 then back. Then a full blown sprint to the opposite tryline, then back. That was 1 rep. Then every Monday for fitness we all had to do 20 reps before we could even touch a ball 😭
@@lacedgoods9155 we did that with something we called "300's" Basically a full sprint around the field. Forwards had to run in 45 seconds. Backs had to run it in 40. But not that simple. Last man in the forwards has to be 45 seconds or less.. then last man in the backs 40 or less. If 1 person fails then we had to do it again as a team
I remember this one time where I had a training session for school and then a club session later one, my coach for school made me run a bronco and it was alright for me but then when club training came my coach from school came over (He was playing in the senior club for my club) and helped us train before making me do another bronco which made me not get out of bed for the rest of the day
Ya, idk it as the bronco, did it short way first, but if you do it the way where you're supposed to speed up for the shorter ones that will kill you more
We used to do 5 , back, 22, back ,50, back far 22, back, far 5, back, 100 m, back and that was only once and that did me in, if the coach was in a good mood he added burpees
Some of the hardest fitness I did was a bronco, 1 minute break, 4 bronco, 1 minute break, all the way down to 1 rep of a bronco. 5 min break then 200m, 1 minute break for 5 reps.
Very impressed with her time for not being a runner at all. Says a lot about skipping for conditioning.
yeah it's crazy good for vo2 max
Completely! The endurance needed must be crazy! What did you think of Greg’s effort?
@@WorldRugby I think he was being humble because he killed it.
Pretty certain she wasn't some fat slob before she started skipping. She was clearly a sporty fit chick before that.
especially without studs
Is the Bronco the hardest fitness challenge in rugby? What other fitness test come to mind? Let us know in the comments.
Yes.
Malcoms
Henny Mulas
@@koolm81 my coach called them honey mulas 😂
@@whyumad8947 was he a New Zealander? They usually pronounce it that way 🤣

For which lines? Tryline to halfway or full pitch?

USA Rugby 7s does the RSD. Repeated Sprints Double, it’s tough and worth doing a RUclips video on.
This sounds tough. Any where we can find the session details?
We just started doing this with our home club and it’s great conditioning
nice
Great conditioning, horrid 5 minutes. What’s that phrase about pain and gain?

We used to do those but it was a sprint out and jog back. The ‘jog’ back of course was a walk by the end. Great fitness work but horrible at the time!
Suicide runs is what I've heard americans call it, I know it as another name but I've forgotten bow
@@MorAodhan we never dod burgers, but you are supposed to touch, we were grilled on that
i do theese in my touch football training we call them eagles
I feel like she overestimated how tiring it would be- she looks like she could have done it quite a bit faster

I remember at High school we used to do bleep tests... hitting level 15-16 on that monster is rough
I remember the words 'progressive & maximal' from the bleep test - bloody horrible thing

So painful but worth it definitely helped my fitness glad I don’t have to do them anymore 😂
That's borderline injurious.
Do them here in nz too bruv, we had to run backwards and had time limits if last person didnt make it back run again lol

still player in highschool .My coach make the bronco but starting on 10m until the other try line. It was 7 time hitting checkpoint and count as a rep
We used to do this 20m and back, then 50m and back, 80m and back (I think), then 100m and back ... 5 times 😲
We call these Suicide runs.
20,40,60,80
2 minute rest
Repeat in opposite order
Try to better the first time.

Hardwork💯
Great time.
The girl wasn't even wearing boots.
We had to do a version of this but starting from tryline to try line and then each respective marking back. So tryline, 22, 10, 50, 10, 22.
I love this chanel
I'm just loving how he just drops how he plays for Ireland in the co version with her 😂
The bleep test is harder. Bleep tests don't stop.
You are meant to do 20,40,60 not 60,40,20
Ya, idk it as the bronco, did it short way first, but if you do it the way where you're supposed to speed up for the shorter ones that will kill you more
On real grass it's alot harder vs turf
We do something a bit different but you basically have to run 12 100m lengths without stopping as fast as you can, let’s you work out a good m/s
i did it 5 times in a row in the time of 4,20 with 4 min rest
Do a Malcolms challenge!

5:36 but I’m eleven
bronco goes 20-40-60 not the way they did it
They did 20-40-60, He says it at around 2:45
@@tree5096 no they did 60-40-20 changes it completely even though same distance
GREG FROM LOVE ISLAND
Hahaha this is just one's.. in the pre seizoen we have to do it 4 Times a training

you're meant to go onto your belly at each line then get up also
Bronco is more adaptated for seven's players.
Who has the fastest time for men?
That has to be Hugo Keenan as mentioned in this vid (4 min 11 sec). Beauden Barrett established the old record of 4 min 12 sec back in May 2020

Halifax nova scotia citadel hill repeats. About 70 metres at about 30 degree incline

Broncos are called "Suicides" in the states... 😂
