I've been playing guitars for years. Went looking for a new acoustic last week. How did I not notice Seagull before? Astoundingly good in every respect. I now own my first Seagull, won't be my last.

The S6 is the first guitar I ever bought in '96 and it's still one of my favorites. Someone just asked me how much I'd sell it for.... I told him I'd never sell it... Ever. It sounds better now than when I bought it, which is the whole point of buying a solid top guitar.

I have a Original Seagull S6 I bought about 8 years ago and the sound has mellowed the longer that I own it. I am just beginning to appreciate the quality that went in to making this guitar. My thanks to the Godin family for making such a fine quality product.

Like Mr. Jacobs I've been playing a long timer (72 years) I had never heard of Seagull guitars. A fellow member of a Bluegrass genre club brought
his S6 OriginalHe allowed me to play his S6. I told myself "I gotta get one o these" And I did, and for cheep too. Its a 2017 edition but previous
owner gave it a lot of TLC. No dings, no scratches or blemishes. Mint condition. Taking it to the next club jam session Sat 13 Mar 2021. I ve had
dozens of guitars. Martin Kalmazoo Yamahas Epiphones etc. but this S6 is a KEEPER!!!!

the reason I bought the seagull was for the wide neck. My fingers are large and the seagll is the only guitar that I can play.

My Seagull Cedar top cutaway is over thirty years old, came from Canada to Germany, I moved to Alaska with it for 23 years and now back here. It's still the finest sounding guitar ever! Due to the Cedar top it has a rich low end sound, forget Martins😉

Part 2. The other day while browsing a used guitar shop I saw a used Entourage for sale. It had a horrendous crack in the
top. Dealer wanted $185.00 USD. I'm wondering if I could have the guitar mended cheap enough to justify buying it? Of
course one would say "depends on how hard the crack is to repair"? I believe an experienced Luthier could install cleats
and the Entourage would gain s new life. Trouble is, few if any Luthiers in N E Texas do not have a long waiting list. I'd
estimate at least $100.00. $185.00 for the guitar, $100.00 to repair? $285.00 expendature in total.

I bought a Seagull Excursion Walnut SG Isys+ Natural and have never regretted it. It's not a fancy guitar, however the tone is comparable to an Alverez Yari I used to own. Workmanship and quality are top of the line. After watching the Seagull construction video, I was sold. Seagull puts much care into construction of their instruments!

I own a Seagull performer and I'm very happy with it. It is my 3rd guitar and was a quality instrument upgrade/replacement for my 1st acoustic. It's loaded with features as well as hand-made quality for a production price.
What I like about it (besides obvious beauty and features) -
    - Wide nut makes it easier to play.
    - Nice neck shape that virtually matches the "59 round-back" custom neck on my electric. It's a popular, beefy and practical neck shape. The matching contour and width of my electric also helps with jumping between the 2 instruments. It has a nice matte neck-back finish for non-stickiness & smooth hand movement.

Bought one yesterday. the first thing I noticed was the tuner placement, strings are straight from the nut to the tuning pegs " makes tuning easer + stays tuned" After playing on four different guitars for about an hour, I decided to buy the seagull. Great tone, comfortable neck, not too heavy.
I would definitely recommend getting one.

I've had a MJ M6 CW with the cedar top since 2005 when it was made! Its brought tears to so many eyes over the years because of its tonal quality and so many guitar players have tried to acquire it from me over and over and over after hearing it and so many times that this alone speaks for it but what really speaks the loudest is something else! Its that if you know guitars you know playing this high end Seagull that to compete with this for sound, and feel, and to get this kind of easy action and overall beauty and balance in a instrument so comfortable in your lap that its incredible you have to step up to a Taylor in the $2600 $2700 price range! Only then are you going to find something that will adequately replace it!!! Perhaps that is a warning to many because once you find this value you realize that like some certain unique spots in nature they become over time one of the best kept secrets in quality guitars! I tell you quite honestly that I could buy any damn guitar I wanted for any price and I wouldn't trade this Seagull for two of the 1220 dollar Ovations I let go to my son to make the excuse to make room for this one!! It is a better guitar than those Elite Ovations at half the price!

These guitars are amazing. I will own one of these guitars. I picked up the modest priced seagull in the 400 dollar range. This guitar is so amazing it resonates very nicely and makes my modest playing sound amazing. I currently own a very nice ibanez acoustic electric i received as a Christmas gift from my parents about 12-13 years ago i am finally ready to replace my gift with something way better and deserving of my gift to be let go. I feel if i am ready to let my gift go this guitar must be amazing. i have been in times where i needed money and couldn't let my acoustic go since it was a gift. If this guitar makes me comfortable to let my gift guitar go I feel it must be amazing

Sad to see the bland critical comments made below.... probably just a jealous competitor of Godin methinks! If one model is too wide for you, why on earth don't you just look at another model tather than knock it???
I've still got my original S6 and it remains cherished & played maybe 15 or 16 years on, maybe longer, time flies. In its price bracket it remains one of the best acoustics I've ever played, bar none. It's slim mahogany neck is well suited to electric players, beautiful body timbers (the back is a joy), very solidly built (dropped more than once!), great volume, but with bright clarity for fingerpicking. I couldn't afford the electro version at the time.... had a Fishman fitted after sales by a Somerset luthier. Given a choice of low end Martins or top end Seagulls.... well, there is no choice, I'd go Godin every time!!! I've got a Fylde Ariel for it's wider nut, glorious sound & build quality, but that was a £Grand new in 1998.... £1800 now. Of course the Seagull isn't the same as the Fylde, but it's a totally different animal.... and the Seagull still flies.... amazing value & should not be overlooked.
ps Been playing for around 48 years seriously, 52'ish in total. Have at least a dozen acoustics & have owned some of the best over the years. If a guitar needs setting up from new, change your distributor, not the brand.... pre-sales & after-sales are key to any retailer and customer.. Why would you take a file to a brand new instrument, that's the distributor's job before money changes hands????

I have a Seagull ,natural element (cherry ) cutaway . Love it. I was going to buy a Taylor ( which was more $$$) cause I have an alligator case for my Seagull and the case is big. The case is smaller for the Taylor. Went to the music store and played a Taylor ...... never mind I'll carry my big case. My Seagull has a much better sound than the Taylor.

Having played both neck styles on the Seagulls- the wider really works for me. However some people instantly get turned off by the wider neck. Seagull offers a traditional style neck too. These guitars are not just a good value- but they are exceptional guitars that have always put a smile on my face or anyone else who played mine.

I've just bought an Artist Mosaic CW Folk Delux II for about a grant and am already regret having it. The bass sounds muffled; Low G (6th string, 3rd fret) is high; Feedbacks hysterically when plugged in to Trace Elliott 300 amp. Being so upset, I bought a Breedlove of the same price range (or a tad less,) and it plays like a dream. Seagull can no way be compared to Breedlove in this case. The only bad thing about Breedlove is that it's heavy.

Donny brown Just do what I did, save what you can, then just look for used ones on Craigslist, or better yet, check Reverb.com. I just bought a used Seagull Entourage Rustic in "very good" condition from Music Go Round in Indiannapolis through Reverb.com for $225, & they normally cost $349! Also bought a '99 Simon & Patrick 12 string off Craigslist for $80!! They are made in the same factory as Seagulls! It wasn't in the greatest of shape, because it was on it's 3rd owner, the top half of the top was sunk a bit because the owner before him had stored it in a hot dry place without a humidifier & the strings were at least 5 yrs old. I took the old strings off, turned the truss rod all the way tight clockwise, & put a new set of D'Addario lights on it & it sounds FANTASTIC & keeps it's tune pretty well considering.

I've played many more expensive guitars but they don't have the projection and dynamics of the Seagulls (I have two, S6 and the D'Agostino Artist model) both are affordable but very high quality in sound and tone. I wouldn't play anything else! (And no I'm not a spokesman for Seagull :)

  • @patrickclark3337

I'm a big headstock guy and a headstock can make or break a guitar, for me it can be a deal breaker. These guitars are really nice and sound great but the headstock is a deal breaker for me just like the Epiphone headstock is. The S6 is a great guitar and has great quality for such a low price and the nut width is roomy and unique @ 1.8" where the normal size of a lower price guitar is 1.69" and the more midrange is 1.75" usually but they can go either way. I like simple and attractive shapes for a headstock like Gibson and Taylor or Martin and even Guild is gorgeous but the one on Seagull is atrocious.

    • @mollygrubber
      @mollygrubber 5 лет назад +2

That's funny, I prefer the Seagull headstock to many others. Form follows function, and the simple practical design titillates my engineering mind. Adding fancy shapes to a headstock looks goofy to me. To each their own I guess.

I have a S-6 Coastline ce Seagull. Its an okay guitar but I would never buy another one. The neck on mine is too flat, needs a bit more of a radius for good playability, its hard on the fingers. As far as tone it sounds good and the guitar looks good . Mine had the strings way too high from the factory, after sanding down the saddle it does play some better but I can't do much about the flat neck on the guitar..

These guitars sound great for the money but the neck is just too big for my hands.

Steven Conrady Seagull also makes the S6 "Slim", which is just an S6 with a narrower neck (1.72")! I have my 2nd one now in an S6 Entourage Rustic & it works great for me since I have medium size hands. Sounds fantastic & plays like a dream!

2 thumbs down from those who wouldn't have a fucking clue how a guitar should sound.

Anyone that buys a Seagull guitar, owns a guitar that's as good as any Marin guitar, in both quality, and sound, for far less money.

Seagull guitars are nice sounding and playing but the only thing I don't like about them is the headstock. To me it looks as though they couldn't come up with a good design of their own so they simply chopped the sides off making it look a bit hokey! But that's just me. Other than that gripe they are very nice.

If you listen to the whole video he will tell you why the headstock is designed in this way.

This must be old because NOT every Seagull has a solid-top. The Godin people made a terrible mistake by branding lam-top, 'Seagull'...thereby sullying their own name! These lam-tops should have had their OWN brand.

Don't buy a Seagull. I bought an S6, which I rarely played. The first time I went to change strings, the little white plastic washers under the tuning keys were broken. Clearly, the keys had been torqued much too tightly during assembly, but Seagull refused to send me a new set of those washers. Multiple emails to the company about the issue have been ignored. They would rather lose a customer than send out a set of plastic washers that cost them pennies. This is the very definition of arrogant, apathetic customer service. They do not deserve your business. Buy another brand.
