    Loved the lesson Lyndon but I still struggled with seeing the two tone , one and a half tone differences. You kindly brought the Covid Keyboard out and I still didn’t understand. I went to my own piano and then I could see there was no black notes in between the relevant keys -thus making the chord a Minor. Seeing that I got it.

    Love the video, especially the way you're doing your best, as a teacher, to simplify the concept of modes for your students. Also love your tone on the saxophone. Now, just to point something out - the Simpsons theme is in Lydian Dominant, isn't it? (4th mode of Melodic Minor) Well, admittedly, that minor 7th is only used at the end of the theme, so it's practically the same for the most part...

    Very good! I am pretty familiar with the modes (but not the name origins!) but there were aspects you taught here that were new to me. Next, it would be helpful to know when best to use which mode. And while Lydian may not be Lynden, I'd say you've definitely "En-Lynden-d" us ('enlightended'...feel free to use that!) 👍👍

    Hello Lyden. Not so far than yesterday I tried to explain to a pianist friend the modes. Not a simple stuff. I loved the image of the wall. Fantastic explaination ❤. He also said "but is is the same scale". My answer was "yes but in another context because the bass is playing another note of the scale". Do you agree with this explaination? "Creating the scale over the bass and watch for the intervals" or do you consider playing over a C bass a C scale starting D is a mode? We where not all musicians agree 😂. BTW again thanks for your videos

    Hi Lynden, as usual easy to follow and understand. Thanks for your down-to-earth teaching method. I don't think scales and modes are difficult to apply but where it's still fuzzy in my mind is when the chord progressions (look at your own example: EM7 - G#-7 - C#7 - F#-7 - A-7 - D7 etc.) obviously don't fit into the modes. They're fundamentally different scales altogether. The difficulty is to remember the different progressions of notes in the chords. I think I understood from an earlier post that I technically could just plaster the E major pentatonic or blues scale over the whole piece but I'd miss out on some 'exotoc' notes, the D, for example, if I did just that. Is there an equally simple way of explaining and remembering the fast changing scales in for example: 'East of the Sun' (as shown in your video)? I dread having to have all those chords present in my mind while trying to also play the instrument in a reasonably agreeable fashion. I'm a huge fan of your channel!!

    • @lyndenblades
      @lyndenblades  2 месяца назад

      Jan thank you so much and thanks also for your question. A simple way to get more able to get through a chord chat like East of the Sun would be to group chords together by identifying common structures like major and minor 251’s, instead of looking at them as lots of isolated chords. Does that make sense? I’ve made some tutorials about major and minor 251’s, have you seen them? 🤝🤝😎😎🎷🎷

    • @janjung5651
      @janjung5651 2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks so much for your very quick response. I'll watch your 251 videos again and find out what it is that I didn't spot (or actually misunderstood) the first time. I'm quite optimistic about being on the verge of understanding what has bothered me for years. You're the man!
