Its his job to make his team winners. If he feels that his team lacks work ethic or any other thing, its his job to fix that. His job is not to be their friend, unless he feels that being that will help them find that next step. I think that what he asks of his players at "work" is pretty similar to what a number of them do in their own time in the off season just to be ready for the season.

It’s about knowing what motivates you players. If Torts hard ass style is what works for his team then he should do it. But Torts issue has always been some players don’t respond to that well and he can’t adjust and find another way to do it. As a leader you have to know what works for your team

It's not that Torts is hard on his players, it's he puts the blame on the players publicly when the team is going poorly. Torts loves getting hired as an NHL coach, and then he loves getting fired so he can get paid, and then get paid to do media work. He looks so smart on TV and some other NHL GM hires him. IMO Torts isn't a good coach, he's average at best, but he his this image thanks to his many stints on TV,. that he is sooooo brilliant.

I think yes, Tortorella overdoes it a bit with his players, but considering they were in a right battle to make the playoffs last season, I think generally, the general consensus in Philadelphia won't mind one single bit. They want their players to be mentally challenged, physically pushed to their limits and possibly beyond. Right now, he's their best bet as head coach, but there will come a time where he needs to ease off a bit. And that might be the case if they make it this season, because then they'll know how to the next one.

If he gained 20lbs over the summer and stays at 10% body fat, 18 lbs of muscle gained. Very difficult but not impossible for a guy in his 20’s

It is impossible. Zero chance of a trained body without help of drugs put on that much mass and staying at that low body percentage during such a short period of time. If it is a completely untrained individual there might be a chance since you would have a lot of free satelite cells to activate. Increasing the size of your excisting cells that quick as a professional athelte natural I see as impossible.
