I could watch old films of Sizova all day, even though I prefer tall dancers over short ones. Sizova, however, was blessed with a short body and long legs, so she has a wonderful aesthetic compared to other dancers that are her height, for my taste. She shows such toughness combined with a sensitivity that give her simplest performances an amazing depth of feeling. This is just lovely!

What a joy Sizova was as a dancer, and she was in life such a lovely modest human being. The Corsaire has never been equalled - and remember she was just a graduating student at the time, which makes it all the more remarkable. I am very pleased that you Мavro have seen a video about Alla Sizov. Spinal injury prevented her from becoming the world's greatest star. She danced rare, but it has always been an event at the Kirov (now Mariinsky) Theatre. And Nureyev his first fame was in the same theater and was able to achieve success through the Vaganova Ballet School. I have an old recording of "Swan Lake" (early 1960s), and the attached album book about the history of this ballet mentions, "Alla Sizova, Kirov's up-coming great ballerina."
she is so courageous and i think she has an athletic/gymnast aspect to her dance at the Corsaire Variation and the last part of the footage, to the point that the ballerina outfit she has on seems out of place.
Я, не знаток (?) Мариинского балета, видел почти все, что они привозили в Москву, иногдв ездил в Питер, но,как я приезжал,то танцевала Комлева,которую вообще трудно было отождествлять с балетом. Действительно великими в Мариинке были Шелест и Сизова, Соловьев, в Питере - Долгушин, никаких великих типа Дудинской,Колпаковой, Макаровой, Барышникова ,Нуриева (трое последних - скандал с невозвращением), я не видел.
Кстати,помните,как сбегал Годунов. Агент КГБ Григорович взял в заложницы Людмилу Власову, жену Годунова. Но Годунову жена не была нужна, агент КГБ Григорович этого не учел. А теперь представьте, что решили уйти кто-нибудь из : Плисецкая, Максимова, Васильев. Они взяли бы легкие свои сумочки и пошли в другой театр, и никто бы не посмел их остановить, никто бы не посмел дать им семь лет за измену родине. Они великие, и что им такое - страна проживания.
