- 50 years Kirov/MT Sleeping Beauty, or how company style changed according to fashions. Epaulement is now 2nd-class citizen, extension is king (in one case there is a more than 180° split jete, with the feet above the pelvis - it's actually exactly the opposite shape of a jete), and tempo got slower (but not much slower).

Zakharova is guesting with the POB and dances the Nureyev production. Somova and Obraztsova dance the Vikharev "reconstruction". The rest dance the K.Sergeyev production.
All dancers were in their early-to-mid 20s at the time of the performance, with the exception of Osmolkina and Kolpakova who were in their early 30s and 40s, respectively.
Sizova's jump is gorgeous! Wow!
She is extraordinary. They called her "Flying Sizova." Watch some of her videos - Corsaire, for one, and you will be awed.
Also her musicality 🤩
Lezhnina personifies the grace & joy of the variation!
This is my favorite sequence of music from a ballet ever! I grew up watching the 1964 Alla Sizova version of Sleeping Beauty and always loved replaying this part over and over!
I, too, grew up with that version and could never remove the picture of that entrance out of my memory. It remains perfect even through all these years. I'm very happy to find you, Ephesian Rose and also Tab Bo, to share these feelings and memories with.
YES!
Thank you for going through all this trouble. It is such a pleasure to watch all the different performances back to back. And I just can't help but to gasp anew each time I see Skorik: how can this possibly be allowed?
Irina Kolpakova was Lezhnina’s coach at the Kirov ballet
They all are just fabulous! Enjoyed watching every one of these great ballerinas. ❤❤❤
Вишнева💖
I have also noticed that there is a big change about tutus, they were those fluffy little clouds in the 60's and had become those big flat pancakes, I don't know why this has changed so much also ???
What an interesting compilation and comparison, thanks for sharing. Wow, Sizova is just amazing, so joyous and musical. Some of the later clips just leave me cold, I'm afraid....no musicality and flailing limbs (to my taste). Had to watch Sizova twice! :)
yes to joyous musicality
sad for cold, copied choreography :-(
Honestly, they are all different and fabulous. The style and the manner, has changed over the years as technique progressed, but they all, undoubtedly , are fabulous dancers.
Diana Vishneva is CLEARLY the EXUBERANT, JOYOUS, RADIANT EXCEPTION to the overall decline in "brilliance" and sincerity in the role of Aurora (as illustrated in this ONE montage of VERY FEW ballerinas/performances) since her predecessors shown here. Bravo Diana.
My personal favourite is Lezhnina. She has it all...
My favorite ballerina is Zakharova, but favorite Aurora is Lezhnina😆 guess it’ll never change.
My choices here are Vishneva, Lezhnina, Shiriinkina and Osmolkina
What a DECLINE!!!! Too sad! Pity there are no videos of Terekhova, Pankova, Meszentsva, Ayupova!!
Somova has most charm of the new generation!
Clair, watch Kolpakova's full-length of the ballet recorded several years after this one. She was just as outstanding and heart capturing. That version is one of my favorite ballet DVD's.

I see, as the years go by, the loss of plasticity in the upper body along the spine. Sizova and Kolpakova were able to shade the jetes with gentle, pliable backs. The more current dancers just emphasize their legs. The Jetes have lost all their character. Some of the dancers are so thin and stringy, they remind me of jumping fleas at the Flying Wollenda's Flea circus.
+Navarre Brixen As a young (25) dancer your comment strikes me very deeply. I find it very, very interesting... Would love to hear more.
Thank you. I find I like the earlier Auroras better, particularly Kolpakova and Lezhnina, for their grace, spontaneity and their internally-motivated character. The later ones are by no means bad (with one exception), but they are more mannered (or self-conscious) in their approach and perhaps more preoccupied with 'selling' the steps than with the validity of the overall composition IMO. The least said about Somova the better, her flailing extremities are all over the place. Though I'm not sure the blame should be laid solely at her door. Between her inability to control her limbs and her want of taste, the AD giving her roles he shouldn't have, and her then-coach apparently encouraging her to freakish displays of flexibility, the result is dismal :( I should add that she improved in her later videos. *Please feel free to delete my comment if her fans show up in force foaming at the mouth*
well imo anyway she was far better than disgraceful skorik
I know you are a Somova fan and Skorik hater. I don't want to get into an argument with you. Please don't reply.
With all due respect, if you don't want "Somova's fans" to reply to you, why do you comment in the first place? :/
+alecsia96 Nothing against decent Somova fans, everything against Somova fans *foaming at the mouth*. Please read carefully before replying, thank you. I don't want to get into an argument with pediatrapaola not so much because he's a Somova fan, but because he's a notorious Skorik hater who can't behave. He's not after Somova praise, he's after Skorik bashing (again, read his reply here and all the others in the long thread). If you're a decent person, Somova fan or not, my "restriction" doesn't apply to you. And anyway it's up to the channel owner to delete offensive comments.
ballet janie l am not in particoular a somova fan btw
Всё-таки сложение балерины определяет её амплуа.
Короткие рельефно-мускулистые ноги визуально противоречат образу принцессы.
Ещё Фёдор Лопухов об этом говорил.
Who was 2008?!
Evgeniya Obraztsova
skorik entrance is the lower point ever in korov story and clearly shows that a new directionship is necessary ,fateyev is killing mariinsky
and quite an incomplete collection without the most sublime Mez, the most exciting Terekhova and The triple pirouettes Tereshkina.
Navarre Brixen yes she did ,i remember l saw in some videos time ago from rbv or mokhina or other SPB uploaders
Navarre Brixen many top dancers added some of her specialities in classic stagings ,males and females ,imo is accettable ,and vika is a true gem whose light has the power to enlight mariinsky stage also in these dark days where a lot of garbage has star status and talentated people is buried in low ranks or had to go somewhere else to find an honorable position ,young radiant yulia stepanova for first
Navarre Brixen vika is a star .she has class ,beauty and technique to share ,she is world size star ,this apart if adding some personal touch in stagings can be considered right or not ,she is a true star .
+Navarre Brixen have you ever even considered the fact that a dancer doesn't train herself alone for a performance? What about Tereshkina's teacher told her to make 3 pirouettes? Or maybe Zakharova's coach told her not to hesitate on raising those legs? Or maybe Novikova's coach told her to make an oversplit in the grand jette? Why? Because. Go ask them. Seriously, take no offense, but you really nitpick on the dancers themselves when in fact they don't own their show. They do as they're told in rehearsals. "Sell technique" is really ironical, since nowadays people pay to see technical prowesses. Pirouettes, leaps and extensions. Does it add anything to the storytelling? Maybe yes, maybe not. Each person will have his/her own take on the character. Or what, you think you're the only experienced dancer or teacher who knows that adding this or that to the choreography is incorrect? Maybe you should consider giving Mariinsky, Bolshoi and POB lectures on how we rehearse world class dancers for Sleeping Beauty. Lol
haha it looks so creepy :D
The,later one are much better..fabulous jetés..feet pointed..sorry for the old one...ballet is here and now...not yesterday...
