hey so I got baited by some misinfo, allegedly David is not linked to all of those Hi3 rewards, Cai was potentially responsible for some of them but I haven't locked down the timeline yet.
David IS responsible for Star Rail and Cai (I also learned his name is pronounced closer to "chai" or "tsai") IS responsible for Genshin from a producer standpoint!
Also we used to have in Honkai Impact 3rd, the dark ages.
That the time where the head of Genshin was the head of Honkai Impact 3rd, he was removed and we are now managed to recover where Impact 3rd is.
Some impact 3rd that are aware of this weren't surprised with this outcome
I've also heard from threads that Cai is infamously stingy when it comes to rewards. Supposedly they've worked in other gatchas before establishing MiHoyo, but its just some hearsay with no sources I could find, so take with a grain of salt.

imma be honest, throughout my time in the genshin community, i really havent seen anyone saying that you shouldnt complain about the game. i havent seen anyone on youtube, reddit, or other social media platforms shutting people who complain down. of course just because i havent experienced it doesnt mean that there arent people like that, but i just feel like people arent really saying stuff like that

Good video; a lot of people don't realize this is more about the gradual dissatisfaction build up of players over the past three years more than anything. Those 3 fates were just the last straw for most players and it made the Chinese player base evidently explode
Same with the first anniv. People were slowly getting more and more dissatisfied, and then they did that for first anniv.

We can be upset when it's official, but leaked content is always subject to change. It is information that the players ARE NOT meant to know.
I support leaks when it's banners and such, because that helps ftp make informed choices. But lets be reasonable when it comes to leaked rewards.
For a game that puts out surveys practically every two weeks, it's crazy out of touch they are with the community. Across almost all fronts.

It's very possible they are very in touch- with the community's wallets and not their hearts. Basically, they've succeeded on some level to grow the game and make money, so it seems like something is working.

@@DramaticCrossroad That's not what I was getting at. You, as a whale, are not necessarily the primary moneymaker for a game with a revolving door of 65+ million monthly players. Maybe they want you to move to their other games. They have the behavioral data of 10s of millions of players- there is no way they do not use that data to fine tune profit margins.
Genshin has needed competition for years, this might feel problematic but it could genuinely end up improving the game
And it got that, with HSR, this situation may improve the game, or they would just do a bandage solution
Wuthering waves looks like it'll be more direct competition when that comes out(hopefully)
@@steve4728they’ve been improving in 4.X, but HSR isn’t direct competition. It’s the same company and a completely different type of game since it’s turn based. To get significant improvement it needs direct competition (which Wuthering waves could provide since it’s also open world combat)
With Wuthering Waves release, I hope Genshin started to be kinder

I'll just say this. Because Honkai: Star Rail is so incredibly generous with its rewards, I'm *more* incentivized to spend money on it than literally any other game that's stingy about gifts and rewards.
Also the only reason other apps have been targeted with Genshin review bombing is because Hoyo is known for deleting critical and negative reviews on their own store pages. Censoring criticism, if you will, which forced angry players to take out their anger on others.
Fr, I never spent a dime into other gacha.
But on HSR i feel i'm getting enough to not fall off compared to the content, meta.
Which made me spend some because I'm actually having fun.
Same here, I plan on swiping on CNY and/or on my birthday right before the anniversary. Genshin can screw off they ain't getting my money.

FR, I’ve stopped spending money on Genshin besides the BP and Welkin to solely focus on spending pull money on HSR. I’m more than happy to give some money to a company that is treating me fairly! Genshin does not deserve that kind of $ from me anymore 👎
This is temporary.
CN players didn't start the "riot" because of the "3 extras wishes", that was the last straw. These players were expecting real changes in Genshin (new content besides "new areas / new characters", useful QoLs, etc), and not only more rewards. Genshin is basically the same game than it was 3.5 years ago, the only extra content they added were Teapot and TCG, two things that are not direct related to the game itself, and modes that the majority of players don't care/play.
The weird thing is that TCG I can understand but I feel like the majority love the teapot ( why I honestly couldn’t tell you)
But yea from the fact that they’re giving out a “free” skin selector only for CN IF you buy a ps5 which at that point why not just use that money to buy all the skins

The part that irks me the most now is that a lot of forums are now removing posts about the situation. The main Genshin subreddit seems to have had most if not all of the posts deleted regarding the 3 Fates/Rewards/CNY drama removed by an automoderator, if you sort by date posted with any search terms related to the situation, there's barely anything now within the time frame of the past week. They're trying to quell the situation by covering it up, so it's ever more important to use a platform speak up and voice opinions about the state of the game, because it's becoming evident that we as players actually can't.

The Genshin subreddit and the forums on their app Hoyolab have historically censored posts criticizing the company during major outrages.
I specifically remember Hoyolab literally straight up nuking every single negative post during the 1st anniversary in a desperate attempt to silence the playerbase. They've even made it so you couldn't change your in game signature a couple of times during those controversies so people couldn't spread the message.
It's nothing new. Hoyoverse have shown that they don't care and that their first inclination to player unrest is to either censor them, or ignore and try to weather the storm. Outrage and review bombing are the only things that get them to budge unfortunately.
They did the same thing with Dehya.
It's disgusting.
Same thing happens with any controversy in Genshin like Dehya and 1st anniversary, they don't even hide that they do it. Even detailed well written posts that are critical get deleted fairly often on reddit, mods say it's to keep up subreddit quality but then all the low quality repetitve posts mysteriously stay up. Says a lot about the company tbh
Me spending almost 3 years giving QoL feedbacks in Genshin Survey only to get used for Star Rail every month: 💀
That to me has to be the most insulting thing IMO, even more than the rewards. The lack of QoL, endgame, and variety of modes Genshin players wanted gets served to HSR immedietly.

I think one of the generosity issues is not just the Dr. Ratio but lots of F2P HSR day 1 players are getting to their 5 star selector which at least the global side on genshin has been clamoring for since the first anniversary and great global meltdown from that.
I would say that Genshin does have competition. HSR has, per Hoyo's own business side, eaten into the Genshin revenue stream. Not just that but a lot of genshin clones are starting to come onto the market, and genshin does need to start to "defend" themselves.
For me that selector is useless due to stupid luck making it useless.still doesn't discount it but I hate after all this time luck just made it yeahhhhh

Penacony might be promising but my true worry is the writer being a part of the 13 and if they go 13 qaulity it might be like hi3 where 13 aka penacony is the best and everything else is shit. And takes a massive nose dive where only a starting the next chapter of the franchise can save it. The biggest issue with Genshin is the constant toxic positivity, how any kind of criticism towards the game and wanting to make it better somehow translates into people thinking said criticism is just hating the game for not liking it. I've been playing Mihoyo games since 2018. We just want their games to be the best that we know they are capable of making them be. Right now, while Genshin is still an amazing game and a juggernaut in the gacha landscape, It's still not living up to what it could potentially be. That is why people critique games, they like these games and want them to improve.
Yeah, I've seen some people say that those who are boycotting or speaking against the company are "greedy" because they already made the game f2p to everyone anyways.
It doesn't make sense why a person is "greedy" for noticing the absolute disrespect they get from the company who owns the game and wants to fight for that respect.

This is comment is just so rational and fair. I think a problem in the fanbase is no matter what side you are on your fucked. If you defend the game outright you get called a fanboy as you should. Then we have the other side of people just blindingly hating saying all the recent content is bad. So they get called a blind hater as they should. And then you have the worst part of the fanbase you can enjoy the game and ask for improvement but then you run the high risk of getting attacked by both sides its just a lose lose situation. This is why im in the idc bout the drama anymore and if anything i just want the Chinese players to do something cause they are the only ones who have power. And i just gotta say SR players who are just constantly bashing and mocking genshin players are just fucking assholes and only make the current hoyo civil war even worse
They’re just so many characters now. They should scale the primos received with the increase in character pool
So many people don't even realize and yeah they gotta address this by keeping the game fresh. They sadly haven't done much to do that
This is not the only issue there’s so many world bosses and the resin is not enough for everything
This and the issue with resin. I'm trying to level up my characters but my resin is preventing me from doing so. I'm not even trying to aim to build them completely, just level them all up so I could use them from time to time whenever I get tired of my main. In HSR at high level, you'll get consistent 5 ascension materials for characters while in Genshin, the max that you could get is 3 and it's even RNG, most of the time you'll probably just get 2. I already have all of my characters leveled up to 80 while half of my roster in Genshin are still under leveled.
@@daydream10.18 On top of that, when you actually have the resin, half the time you can't actually level the characters because the talent and weapon level up materials are time-gated and you have to wait until another day for their domain to rotate back around again.

Well said but you missed some points. (1) Its not just the generousity. The Genshin team has completely ignored feedback from the global player base for 3 years. From Dehya "Nerfing", to Increased Resin, to Artificat Loadouts, to Expanded Limit on Teapot, to More Endgame Content, the Genshin developers/producers just ignore every request despite sending out surveys. (2) The CN community also got pissed off because in order to get a skin selector in the game you had to buy a PS5, which is very expensive in China.
They haven’t completely ignored feedback. They did make QoL changes based on feedback

8:34 this whole explorstion thing is EVEN WORSE then u realize that it takes HOURS UPON HOURS of looting chests in genshins reptitive exploration.........to not get evdn half the amount of pulls starrail gets per patch for HOURS OF LESS TIME.......that is nuts
I actually commented this on a seperate video, but I have proof that the "exploration" thing is BS. Went from 40-50ish% exploration in Fontaine to 100% in everything this month, I only got 2.4k Primogems + 10 wishes from the Fountain of Lucine. This month, I got a grandiose total of 9.4k Primogems. Spent HOURS collecting Oculi and chests, doing Quests to unlock everything, etc.
This sounds great, yeah it sums up: 10 wishes per new area launch. Guess what? I barely spent any time playing Star Rail and got 12k Jades + 46 passes.
I don't do MoC, but I get 36 stars every abyss. I only log in every two days on Star Rail while I log in daily for genshin....

Comparing time spent in the games is a little silly because beyond “anime gacha” they are completely different genres. Exploring in Genshin takes a long time but it’s the core content and primary appeal of the game. HSR doesn’t have nearly as much different content to sink your time into.
I WANT there to be a lot of explo content. I would rather spend more time in Genshin since I find it more fun.
This worked when everyone was captive at home during Covid. Now, it's just disrespectful of players' time.

Hoyo has been ignoring the dedicated player base for years. SO many improvements have been asked for because we like the game and want it to improve, and they were either ignored or went to HSR instead. Then they give us the most bottom of the barrel sorry excuse for a "thank you" for that dedication that requires zero time, effort, or cost for them, completely disrespecting our loyalty. It's not just about 3 pulls not being enough; they're saying that we don't matter.

The “but Genshin has exploration rewards” take was always irrelevant to me. I love Genshin and have played for 3 years and have very often fallen prey to FOMO and grinding primos for a character I really want but not being able to get enough. I’ve spent money on this game starting in year one and wish I never did.
With Starrail, I have not ONCE felt pressured or tempted to spend money on it. I have not struggled NEARLY as much to find jades to get pulls. It is incredibly faster, easier, and in general just more rewarding and it has made me really enjoy playing stress free.
Genshin has a special place in my heart and the story is better imo but I’m not dumb enough to think it’s easier to get characters in Genshin than in starrail lol
I totally agree with you ever since hsr released and I feel less pressured but when I do spend money I don’t feel shity like when I do with genshin because of how badly they treat us . hsr have been very generous to us
Same currently super stacked with all the characters I have wanted for the most part on her but genshin is another story with exploration being the most boring thing for me
@@nonianv6122 same! I’ve gotten every starrail character I’ve wanted so far plus some extras for meta but in Genshin (despite not even wanting every character) I’ve always struggled and usually had to pay :(
Remember seeing a graph comparing the amount of wishes per patch and it’s actually very close despite hsr not having much exploration.
tbh in genshin you dont need that many characters to clear floor 12 (heres me clearing with my old ganyu hammer every time)

I want to point out, that the genshin director was at some point HI3 director and was really stingy with the rewards there as well. Then they put him in charge of genshin and he kept the mentality, while we got a new director in charge of HI3 which has been really generous in both games.
They definitely have different visions for the game, and nothing shows it more than than change of director in HI3
This and i want people to talk about the god awful community rewards in genshin, almost all gacha gives everyone rewards once community goals are reached. Genshin you have a chance of 30 primos…
And god the welkin reward still pissed me off, some get lucky with welkin others not even like 1000 primo. It god damn mora aka something we can grind in game and once you reach like ar 60 for a long while is near a none issue.

Yeah, when David Jiang becomes the producer of HI3 replacing Cai Haoyu, the game becomes better with rewards and stuff. But now Cai Haoyu moves to Genshin, and getting the same horrid experiences as HI3 before David Jiang.....

The first anniversary drama feels like it was just yesterday and basically nothing has changed... hopefully they start feeling the pressure with more competition entering the space because it really just feels so bad.
I honestly forgot they gave us 3 extra pulls last yr as well, it totally slipped my mind so the fact they thought they could get away with it AGAIN is insane. At first Genshin players HAD an actual excuse of Hoyo didn't want to do this or give us this or whatever we wanted is COPIUM etc etc, but the fact HSR gets EVERYTHING we've been asking for, for YEARS on end plus the fact they keeps getting rewarded and appreciated and all the QoL they receive it's just why would u even play Genshin ngl? The game SUCKS, farming artifacts is kinda redundant since u won't have any use except abyss but not everyone does or even like abyss. I just wanted to say that after this recent drama with Atsu, you were unfairly treated, and you are an awesome guy, and I'm now subbed. Keep up the great content. People that use the "exploration excuse" have me convinced that they have never explored. As the unholy combination of teapot/exploration/abyss/lore/quest/shipper/simp player, it does feel like a slap in the face to only get 3 fates after spending 10 morbillion hours of hearing Paimon's YAPPING.
Star Rail at least has the decency to give me almost the double of what I get in genshin in less than a quarter of the time.
Rewards are just a small symptom of a bigger illness and that is Hoyoverse don't seem to know what the player base wants. IMO, the real tragedy of 4.4 is not the rewards but how they absolutely fucking butchered the artifact loadouts system. 3 whole years and this is what we got?
Resin still capped at 160, Endgame is still only the spiral abyss, 4 star characters are still completely fucking random, no dialogue skip button, if you missed an event it will never return, if a character is bad on release they will stay bad, I still have to wait for a certain day to farm for the right talent books and weapon ascension materials, I still have to wait 3 whole minutes to fight a world boss again, I can only beat the Whale once a week for rewards, constellations cannot be disabled. 3 fucking years and none of this have been fixed. How the fuck they mess up artifact loadouts? How the fuck it took 3 years, to reset the cooldown in abyss when retrying?
I don't care about less rewards, it means nothing to me. 20 more intertwined fates? I can just buy that shit. Free 5 star? I can also buy that shit. But I can't buy a proper artifact loadout, I can't buy more end game, I can't buy a Dehya buff. I can't buy an epitomized path for 4 star characters.
Even if they do give us bonus rewards, what is stopping them from making it CN exclusive? What is stopping them from nerfing future event rewards to make their money back? That is WORSE for F2Ps in the long run. The free 5 star they give may not even be someone you wanted. But because they nerfed all future rewards, suddenly you don't have enough primogems to pull for who you really want. QoL updates are for everyone. You may have took a break since 3.4, you will still get it when you return in 5.0. But if you missed 4.4? Sucks to suck brother, you are never getting this bonus rewards, try again next time.
I agree, the rewards are miserable and I come from FGO, a game which didn't even have a pity system for the first 6 years of the game. It once took me almost 1200 pulls just to get just 1 copy of an SSR i wanted. THAT GAME is more generous than Genshin when it comes to rewards. But rewards are a small issue. Fighting for more rewards is right, Hoyoverse shouldn't treat us like shit. But I really hope we keep up this energy and fight for the QoLs that is long overdue which IMO is infinitely more important than just rewards.

I have quit genshin a long time ago already (around 3.2 or smth) and tbh even they were to respond to this with some generous compensation, for me the core issue of genshin isn't the stinginess of the rewards. That is an issue alright, but the main problem for me is that genshin, at its core, has been developed with the mindset of making every aspect of the gameplay tedious, annoying and unrewarding.
The old assignment system took 3 years to get optimized, same thing with the commissions.
The fact that domains aren't open everyday
The resin cap blocked at 160
The world bosses needing to respawn after a minute or so
The weekly bosses being doable only once ( you can do 3 in HSR)
These weekly bosses dropping 3 possible drops while characters need one specific one
The assignments giving you nothing valuable besides ore ( you get trace materials from HSR)
Having to teleport constantly to the crafting station
And I could go on and on
So what I'm trying to say is, genshin put its foot in its mouth not only with their stingy rewards and neglect of the player base but also with their goddamn inflexible tedious gameplay mechanics
Those just generic ass QOL if you're going to want change at least want something with actual like what lots of people have already said is endgame content. Lets say if all what you've listed is already in the game, what makes you think you would have not pushed for further of the same complaint, like why is resin capped at 250, how come we can only do bosses 3x a week? etc. The real problem for genshin outside of endgame and their customer service is it's trying to be many things at once, allocating their resources into things like teapot and tcg that still get updates. There is a limitation and genshin is stuck on the capability of a phone. HSR is there to be one of their ways to net back players that fell out of genshin and newcomers who aren't interested. Genshin has a consumer base that rivals apple and pokemon, blind loyalty. HSR is their fix for players who wanted what genshin doesn't have but HSR provides.
Completely agree, going back to Genshin after mainlining HSR since launch feels like a complete night and day difference. HSR, while still a gatcha game with GG mechanics, it feels like they've made all those mechanics much less tedious with significant QoL adjustments to every element of it.

@@ebullient39 As much as I loved Fontaine and think the better archon story was needed - I realized that their passion seems to be in fine arts - did they really need to spend money on a famous French opera singer for a 2 minute song? The effort that goes into world building is truly incredible in a game, but it shouldn't replace what was promised....exciting elemental battle system....it is the one game up to this point that has had the ability to do BOTH story/world building AND satisfying battle modes.
The irony is, they don't want to stress players out, but timed battles are far more stressful than other modes where you're not forced to plow through enemies - I want to enjoy the kits of these characters.

Even though I don't know much about other games, I can confidently say Star Rail is a good option for more casual, relaxing gameplay, and it also comes with good gaming experience. But if you have other preferences, go play them if you're bored of Genshin.

The appeal of exploring was there at the beginning but it fell flat too quickly. It's because the rewards that you get for doing it doesn't scale up with the tedious amounts of time that you have to invest on it. I am NOT spending my whole weekend booting up the interactive map and scraping the world for chests lol. Also, so many players were asking for endgame content years ago, but instead the devs are too busy making more Teapot and TCG updates.

@@lulanek202 to make it short, because Brax made a "bad" first impression and a mistake with one of Atsus friends he relayed word that Brax was some creepy guy that was hungry for fame and in doing so whether it was intentional or not he isolated Brax from the rest of GIs CCs. This basically means he bullied Brax out of the CCs spheres just because Brax wanted to become friends + because of this Brax missed out on a lot of events and possibly big sponsorships related to genshin.

This really was the last straw for many people. The fact that even the CN player base (The ONE AND ONLY player base the genshin dev team cares about) is upset. They know they fucked up.

It’s quite simple. Genshin impact benefited from having such a massive adoption rate in its first year that even if people do eventually fall of, retention is still strong enough that the people in charge of genshin doesn’t have to change anything.
Until genshin impacts’ retention actually drops considerably, they will never change. Star rail and the other Honkai games don’t have the same massive audiences, they can’t afford to make these games stingy.

update: the chinese government just released a document that ranked the hoyoverse company as the most unresponsive to filed complaints (39.3%). Shows just how much they actually care about their player base.
Resin....the resin cap is why I don't play often. I want to build my characters and I can't when it takes resin for everything. Which is also locked behind a day of the week, which is also locked behind a weekly lockout. I login, use the pathetic 160 and log out. I have EVERY character and I can't build them. So damn frustrating when a new character comes out that looks interesting and fun.
It takes a week worth of resin to farm only the boss material, not including mora, weapon materials and Mora for it, talent books, boss materials, artifacts, 160, even 1600 is not enough for all these.

Genshin is a wonderful game, and we just want all aspects of it to match its wonder.
another thing genshin has a problem with is that it is not new player friendly most events that happen are in the newest area in the story so most new players will be blocked from it

I spent on C2 my raiden but I don't plan on ever buying on genshin again - not for pulls aways. I did build my shenhe because her new skin. So admittedly I was planning on buying that when I saw it but since then - Kinda just meh. Genshin just kinda feels like it's bullying me into *buying* the characters if I want to try different ways to play the game with the new five stars - unlike star rail which feels like encouraging me to play by pushing me closer to exploring the other playstyles by making it more accessible.
Honestly the only complaint I can think of and wanna see outta HSR is skins. We got shown a very nice skin for March 7th but it didn’t ever get put into the game. It’s a shame to show us that and not make it available even if March isn’t a unit used by many people.
The thing that bothers me is that Genshin devs are still seemingly tonedeaf with even QoL stuff that users actually want. Example is the “custom loadout” system they’re putting in. No one wants it. They’re just putting time into developing things that aren’t the actual custom loadouts that we want. Honkai has had them for years. It’s just so baffling.
You really sure it's the devs and not higher ups? You do know even if the devs want to change something since they are the most attuned to the playerbase's feedback, the higher ups aren't as they care about more inner company workloads. Their mentality is "why fix or change something when we still make tons of money".

I stopped playing Genshin when Star Rail came out and ngl, all the little quality of life changes made me realize how much it sucked to actually get anything done in genshin. I used to be a Dolphin (probably spent over 2k over 2 years that I player) and a lot of the time it wasn’t even enough to get a single character I wanted, so I quit when Star Rail came out. If I were still trying to play Genshin (I tried to come back once or twice but I dropped it after a day or two) I would be pissed as well at the difference in rewards between the two games, not to speak of the quality of life difference which is already massive.
This came up in World of Warships/Tanks as well (which even lead to the parent company divorcing themselves from the WoWS developer house and bringing the title back in directly), but these games are not typically run from the top, but each director generally has the freedom to do whatever they want with the game direction and how rewards, benefits and everything else is handled. More experienced companies realize the negative impact that comes from their games being unbalanced against each other, so impose a little more control over general policy and rewards given between games.
"This producer has a different vision for the game" ................. a STINGY vision.........
