- I was all about experimenting with this oak bowl I recently turned apparently! From the carved flutes to the India ink, this bowl was filled with some new details I have never done & some old finishes I haven't used in quite some time.

The flutes look great and add an element of an industrial component (like a cog wheel) and are paired very nicely against the internal wood grain. I'd definitely buy it 👌
your camera work is top notch man.
I appreciate it bud!
Excellent. I really like oak with color. Well done!
Thank you Doug, I appreciate that!
That turned out to be a really cool bowl. I like the black color and w the natural color. Plus that texture added a very nice🤌 to it.
Have to go back and check out the Halloween video now! Not much longer until 👻 season!
Also, the POV was a cool addition to the video
Need to go watch it! Its SpOokY lol Thanks man
Such a neat bowl
Thank you!
Fun Experiment Andrew! I think it turned out great!
Thank you!!
Nice work buddy, love the shape and texture!
Thank ya!
Turned out great Andrew. I often use India ink and usually apply it with an air brush. I’m surprised you got away without using gloves. Another interesting option would be to burn the wood which works well with carving. Looking forward to your next experiment.
Thank you! Yeah the mess wasnt that bad actually, made sure to only apply a little at a time. Ive been wanting to get my torch out for a piece lately! Ive done that on a few bowls turned from Ash a few years ago but haven't really done much with it since. I may have to plan something for a new video lol
Wow! Beautiful bowl! You had a really great idea.
Thank you!
Another winner Brother!
Thank you Sir!
India Ink works really well!!! I have used it in some of my videos and projects as well!
Beautiful bowl!
It does! I remember how much I enjoyed using it for the first time a few years ago. It worked really well on a bowl I turned from Ash. & also thank you!
I was sceptical about that India Ink, but it turned out rather well & those flutes are great, it would look great in my kitchen, l would like to see a bowl with other dye colours that enhance the wood tones & flutes, l really like it 😀
Yeah the india ink was definitely a risk, have done it in the past but wasn't sure how it would look with the carved details. I will be turning a few in different sizes & shapes here soon to put on my website if interested! I definitely will be planning to try a few more colors in the future.
Nice work on this one! Look great!
Thank you John!
Very cool bowl brother! I love turning Oak buy struggle with it cracking more than I'd like it to.
Thank ya! I feel that, it took me a while to finally start getting a drying process for oak down that worked but since then its become one of my favorites to turn.
Awesome piece, brother!
Thank you!
Love it ❤
Thank you!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Man you did a great job on it keep it up
Thanks Nathan!
Sweet
Thanks!
I love the flutes! I only hope I have the patience to do that and all the sanding some day. The dye is a nice touch as well. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
Thank you! I was expecting the flutes to take a while but surprisingly it wasn't too bad except for the soft area with the glue. I appreciate the kind words!
Un trabajo hecho con amor
I appreciate that!
I love all of these shot setups you use in your video. Did you ever explain how you got the panning/moving shots. I swear I saw a video where you were talking about it.
I really like the flutes on the side of the bowl. I have yet to get bold enough to put any color on a piece I have made, but this black looks really nice. I might have to give it a go sometime. Great work!
I haven't talked about it in a video but I just use a motorized slider I picked up off amazon a few years ago! If there's enough interest, I may do a video on how I make videos lol
I say go for it! Ive been using milk paint for some of my bowls outside of youtube and absolutely love how it looks. Gives it a very rustic, farmhouse look. I tend to do that with woods like oak because I like the grain to show through the color. If you want something more solid, try maple! Also india ink really is very simple to apply and pretty cheap. A little bit seems to go a long ways!
@@andrewmccarn Well i can attest the slider definitely adds something to your videos that i have not seen on turning videos. I swear each one is like im watching a movie with these glamorous sweeping shots. I know i for one enjoy them.
Great video! Andrew what bowl gouge do you use please?
Thanks! I am using a 5/8s Carter and Sons bowl gouge with the trent bosch handle
seeing the India ink here has given me some ideas for items I'm making. Could the ink leech onto other surfaces or does the finish keep it contained?
It depends on the application. If its something that could potentially get wet then I could see it staining your hands or rags so if that is the case then I would probably apply some sort of sealer over it.
Nice bowl Andrew
Thanks Burtt!
@@andrewmccarn I get that alot. My name is Michael (you had no way of knowing that) My RUclips channel is Burtts Bowl (my last name)
@@burttsbowls469 I appreciate ya for letting me know!
Beautiful bowl Andrew! 👍👍
Hello. Where i can buy this paint for my project? Thanks
I typically just look up "India Ink" on amazon and find a top rated one!
