  • Lucky Jordan is a 1942 film directed by Frank Tuttle and starring Alan Ladd in his first leading role, Helen Walker in her film debut and Sheldon Leonard. The screenplay concerns a self-centered gangster who tangles with Nazi spies.
    Plot
Lucky Jordan (Alan Ladd) is gangster living in New York City. When he's drafted into the army, he tries to escape duty by using an old con woman named Annie (Mabel Paige) to convince the draft board he's needed at home. When that fails, Jordan is sent to boot camp, but he doesn't stay long. He takes a beautiful USO worker (Helen Walker) hostage and flees back to New York. There, he learns that a rival gangster (Sheldon Leonard) is plotting against America.

Alan Ladd was quite a star. Off camera he apparently was a family oriented all american male. He's seems to be a softie one a boy would love fir a father. I always see him in that light for some reason its stuck in brain.

Alan Ladd served in the Army in real life, for a short period, January to November 1943, received medical discharge due to ulcer and double hernia. Helen Walkers car should have a gas rationing decal sticker on lower right windshield. 😊

I did hate another asinine scene writers/directors do...Ladd's old crooked pal tries to kill him, Ladd, instead of killing the rat lets him live because a stupid, stupid woman tells him not to kill the guy...another scene where they are letting a killer go. Ladd is always great but if me, I'd say no to that scene.

Woke preaches an ideology that attempts to upend the social construct that we have lived with from earliest times, representing laws, marriage, the rearing of children by constructing one that undermines common sense, conservative values, the family and religion, and proposes instead a malignant narrative that supports every type of perversion, such as allowing pornography in schools. The aim is to seize control of children from parents and institute a communistic Utopia controlled by globalists who want nothing less than to re-educate us to become compliant citizens, to shut us up because we aren't clever enough to have opinions. Woke pushes the LGBTQ agenda, which is a ridiculous assertion that there are more than two genders, which any normal person rejects as absurd. And the very fact that Woke activists attempt to mainstream their beliefs when they represent a tiny minority of people on this planet shows how desperate and delusional they are. 🇨🇦

Alan Ladd is one my favorite actors from that era but I can't say this movie was as good as it should have been. The main problem was the problematic development of the protagonist. Realizing that the nazis are bad and you need to join the army to fight them because they hurt an old lady is an example of poor writing. I mean, anyone could be considered evil for hitting an old lady, the script writers should understand the difference between a nazi and a thug. Maybe to pinpoint the difference, Jill says Americans would become the nazis' slaves if the USA did not take part in the war but her dialogue does not function properly. It would be impossible for Germany to enslave the USA, it simply did not have that kind of power, even if Hitler had that intention. Of course Germany had to be defeated and America, thankfully, contributed immensely to that, saving millions of people. However, the story lacks emotional impact in relation to its historical context. We never realize how dangerous to the world the nazis are. We are told they organize sabotages in the US but in a movie, what you are told, not shown, does not affect you. It's no wonder that Jordan, in the end, when he has joined the army again, still does not take things seriously. The movie simply did not have the right plot for him to change deeply. Also, Jill's character disappears for some time and the old lady is suddenly upgraded in the story and undertakes the task of reforming the hero. Naturally, I was never convinced that she saw him as her son, since there was no prior development for such a huge change. Then, towards the end, Jill appears again, with no explanation, as if the writers realized they had forgotten her. Moreover, the production values were poor. The shots from the military camp were very limited, we only saw Jordan's office, never his apartment or other places he stayed in and, generally, space seemed to be restricted.

my favorite movie on my DVR that I go to bed with is “a dangerous profession “with George raft. I have started to watch that movie more times than I can guess, definitely in the hundreds. I have never made it halfway through..
I have to be careful which movies I try to go to sleep with because the music in the movie may be too loud or there may be screaming or gunshots, especially old Warner Brothers movies. They really crank up the volume of the music during dramatic scenes. The reason I have to be careful is because I don’t want to wake my wife up. so there are not very many movies I can put on to put me to sleep. But after all this time, I can have the volume pretty low when that George raft movie is on, because I know all the lines in the first 15 minutes of the movie.
my wife on the other hand goes to bed two hours before I do. I don’t know how she can tolerate it, but she puts on that Roseanne Barr sitcom with the canned laughter or the nanny sitcom with the canned laughter between the blocks of commercials with jingles or pharmaceutical commercials to give you things to worry about..
thank goodness for old, black-and-white movies from the timeperiod when everyone had class, even the bad guys

Unfortunately the end looks like as if the production ran out of money. Nevertheless of course: Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this great old movie. 👍👌👏
Best regards luck and health in particular.

was this his first leading role? according to order of his films on IMDB, looks like 4th of 5 films starring films in 1942! Lucky Jordan was a very much enjoyed film for me, only seen here on youtube...usually seek dvds from California Libraries! Always liked Alan Ladd! [Helen Walker was very much enjoyed, as comic foil to Mr Ladd, plus Sheldon Leonard as usual, Mabel Paige was enjoyed and Lloyd Corrigan too...sad to read @ imbd Mr Ladd apparently attempted suicide @ one point, and died @ young age of 51, and also his bio there reports difficult life...sad but he lives on in his movie roles...THANKS 4 PROVIDING THIS ONE ONLINE! MOST ENJOYED and will watch again going forward!

I think it's safe to assume Ladd's character got the girl when the war was over. 😂 That Helen Walker was perfectly cast! And so was that admiring gardener! 😂

Please play like the original string bands. Can’t hear the banjos or accordions . Where are the glockenspiels? Can’t stand the Broadway production.
I can’t stand to watch the mummers parade anymore.

I love Helen Walker... she was just being nice when she picked up 3 hitchhiking sailors that had liquor with them and she ended up wrecking her car and ruining the rest of her life.

Walker had just finished filming Her Adventurous Night (1946) and was set to begin Heaven Only Knows[1] when an auto accident drastically disrupted her career. On December 31, 1946,[2] while driving a convertible coupe[9] belonging to director Bruce "Lucky" Humberstone from Palm Springs to Hollywood on U.S. Route 99,[9] she picked up three hitchhikers: first, a soldier named Robert E. Lee, and later 18-year-old students Philip Mercado and Joseph Montalde.[10] Near Redlands, California, the car slid off the road into a dirt division strip and rolled for more than 300 feet, flipping over as many as seven times and ejecting all four passengers. Lee was killed as his head struck the pavement,[9] and Walker and the other two passengers were seriously injured.[11] Walker suffered fractures to her pelvis and clavicle as well as a crushed foot,[9] and spent more than a month in the hospital.[12] Mercado, who had been thrown nearly 80 feet (24 m) from the car,[9] sued Walker for $150,000,[13] claiming that Walker was driving "like a fool," ignored his requests to slow down and diverted her attention from the road to ask for a cigarette just before the accident.[14] Montalde sued Walker for $100,000.[15] The police estimated that Walker had been traveling in excess of 80 mph (130 km/h) and a responding officer stated that he had smelled alcohol on her breath.[14] A coroner's jury found that Walker had been driving negligently.[12] She was charged with manslaughter for Lee's death,[15] but the charge was later dismissed for lack of evidence.[16] Walker was replaced in Heaven Only Knows by Marjorie Reynolds.

Roll over play dead no gory stuff-!!!🤗. Ok, looking👀 at the army gal. I remember seeing her in a few other movies. Remember Ladd in perhaps 6 movies???🤔.
