This is the one n only time I have ever seen this excellent movie!! Jeff Chandler is ALWAYS worth watching, but this combination of him n the setting of Marbella n his Italian family made this well worth watching n I would definitely watch it over again, as to me it reminds me of my favorite genre of film, Film Noir!!!! Thanks for hipping me to it!!!
If you want a good laugh, see him in Female on the Beach. So bad it's good. Some hilarious lines. Away All Boats was good. Merrill's Marauders, Broken Arrow.
Jeff Chandler died at 42 years old. One of many who was killed by a doctor's mistake. Marta Toren died at 31 years old from a brain bleed hemorrhage. How sad in both cases.
Marta Toren was Swedish and billed as "the next Ingrid Bergman. Sadly, she died of a Cerebral Hemorrhage 7 years after this movie- what a loss. Good post-TY!
Jeff Chandler, suave, with his wavy hair, good looks, and charisma, he holds viewers attention. Marta Toren, letters of Toren appear in Torrential - she acts well to show torrential emotions, also good looking with charisma (she wears an interesting heart shaped hat). They act well together.
Wow...I stumbled on a film I didn't even know existed. The director, Robert Siodmak, made MANY topnotch noirs starting in 1944 with The Phantom Lady. Then came Christmas Holiday, The Suspect, Uncle Harry, The Spiral Staircase, The Killers, The Dark Mirror, Cry of the City and Criss Cross. When he went back to Germany in the 60s he continued to helm many excellent fims including a really great one, The Devil Strikes at Night Siodmak is a director who HAS to be mentioned when you talk about noir. Without ever seeing this I can recommend it. Arguably he is the second most accomplished noir director after Fritz Lang. Just watched the first 15 minutes...This is a good one!
@willieluncheonette5843 Please - would like to see your list, thanks. My favourite film noir - have just been looking for title and can't find it - is more of an adventure story / love story: evil blonde wife of besotted rich husband plans for her lover to kill him, and for it to look like a road traffic accident (something like that) ... but things do not go to plan! Maybe called *Detour* - will post link to film on RUclips later.
You forgot to mention the great Henry Hathaway who gave us some of the greatest noir classics. The House on 92nd Street (1945), The Dark Corner (1946), 13 Rue Madeleine (1947), Kiss of Death (1947) and Call Northside 777 (1948)
Correction: the film I'm thinking of is *Impact* (1949), with Brian Donlevy and Ella Raines; directed by Arthur Lubin. The film called Detour (1945) is described on Wikipedia en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detour_(1945_film),
I read that Jeff Chandler has some Armenian extraction. He has that look he could be many nationalities of people. He is my favorite film noir actor of that era.
I've never read anything about Armenian ancestry. He was Jewish, born in Brooklyn, and his real name was Ira Grossel. He attended the famous Erasmus Hall High, where many future performers from Brooklyn attended high school. He was nominated for an Academy Award for playing Cochise, which was pretty funny - a Jewish Indian. He did have that look though, which meant he could play many different ethnicities. I love watching his movies!
@@katgirlblueI also graduated Erasmus Hall H.S. 4 years after Barbra Streisand. Other graduates include Theda Bara, Mae West, Barbara Stanwyck, Robert Johnson (founder of Ebony Magazine), etc.
@@bethparker1500I've been a fan of his for a long time; I'm glad that I found this movie, which I didn't know existed. He got better looking with gray hair. He also had a record out. He really had a great voice. He died young on the operating table due to negligence leaving 2 daughters & an ex-wife with whom he got back together.
It's incredible tohear about the restrictions in Italy....just 1950! Italians are clever.....when white flour was banned, the people found semolina to grow and make bread and pasta with it...
Think that this film had enough criminals in it? Lol! ♡'d it, wouldn't have minded living amongst the people back then, life would have been quite hard. Eeeeek!!! Film was made 5 years before I was born. I'll be back to watch again. ThnX 4gr8t upld ;-D
At 8:20 the suitcases were not carried up the steps, but at 11:00 they magically appeared. Much later, at the end, why didn't the Vic Smith guy just call the police. I was glad at least to see the police staking out that warehouse. With that much food and supplies and the trucks in town, why weren't some local town people standing guard as well? Not a bad movie. There were some plot flaws. And the way that Vic Smith guy imposed himself on women bothered me. I guess some women are attracted to that.

Very good film.
He left his cases sitting on top of the taxi, which drove off. Then miraculously, the cases appeared in the girls flat. Oh dear. Poor.
Did you not also see the driver tying his luggage to the roof of the car with ropes? How silly and petty you are!
