Baumkuchen is a kind of layered cake invented in Germany.
It is a very popular cake in Japan.
The most popular wedding favor, too!
createeathappy....
In this video, I will show you how to make it at home using a Tamagoyaki Nabe (rectangular omelet pan)!
---------------------------------
Baumkuchen
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 30min
Number of Servings: 2
Necessary Equipment:
Tamagoyaki Nabe (rectangular omelet pan)
Ingredients:
2 eggs
50g (1.8oz.) granulated sugar
50ml fresh cream or whipping cream *milk is okay
2 tbsp. melted butter *cooking oil is okay
100g (3.5oz) cake flour
1 tsp. baking powder
a few drops of vanilla extract
cooking oil
Directions:
1. Make a core tube by rolling aluminum foil. Make sure it is as wide as the pan.
2. Beat eggs in a bowl. Add sugar and mix well. Then add fresh cream and melted butter, and mix well.
3. Sift in cake flour and baking powder, and mix well. Add a few drops of vanilla extract and mix well.
4. Heat cooking oil in a Tamagoyaki Nabe (rectangular omelet pan) on low heat, pour (1/2 ladle of) the batter in the pan and spread over the surface. When bubbles appear on the surface, place the core tube coated with some oil, and start rolling (just like making Tamagoyaki). Once it has browned, set aside.
5. Again, on low heat, spread the batter over the surface of the pan. When bubbles appear on the surface, place the rolled cake, roll, and set aside. Repeat this (for 5 or 6 times) until all your batter is gone.
You can either serve immediately or chill in the fridge before serving! It will slightly get hard in the fridge, so leave at room temperature for a few minutes before you serve.
You can coat it with icing sugar, serve with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.

I'm so happy how everyone here knows about Yumeiro Patissiere. Its my favorite anime ever! That's why I also came here haha
u forgot me
@@sateayam24 hi. what?🤣 haha
I just came here because the same reason 😳
@@Laurahowify omggg my comment is from 2 yrs ago. So happy someone replied haha

That's what I thought too! I love that anime so much. :D
Ikr i love that anime too!
Same here! XDD
same here
+Julie Lin me too, i love it
its amazing to see so many saying that this is wrong(and yes it probs is) but i don't see any(or at least many) videos where 1. i can make it on a stove 2. simple directions and easy to obtain ingredients and tools and 3. easy for beginners...So i'd like to say if you got a problem with it either make a vid to help out or just tell us what is missing without sound'n like an ass cause your supposedly German and you make this on a daily basis and you don't believe there possibly can be variations for the tastes and levels
All Germans make Baumkuchen on a daily basis just like they are all jodling and living like in Sound of Music or the Trapp Family.
Yeah right.
But I want to help you, now the problem with this specific cake is that it is impossible or at least almost impossible to make it on a stove. Because you need a one sided heat source and you let dough flow on top of a rod while you spin it right before aforementioned heat source so every layer gets baked evenly by itself. I can imagine a way to make it on a stove, but it would be easier to just make a fire apart that you would not get a very good result on a stove. It is hard to make, but u could actually make it on a grill wich you modify a tad very easily by adding a spinning rod.
Hope I helped
the way of making this is just like at yumeiro patisierre
THATS BASICALLY THE REASON IM HERE
anime lover 888 i tought the same! I'm trying to make the sweets in yumeiro patissiere and i just saw this and went like WAAAAAAAAAA!! 😆

same i love that anime
I was watching the anime "Yumeiro Patissiere" and I saw a character make this dessert the way you made it! :D Omg, thank you for making this tutorial!!
Lol memories from Yumeiro Patissiere... ;)
This is the same way i saw it made in the anime Yumeiro Patissiere. Lol
yes ;) i have that info in the description box, too.
ci vedo bene anche della crema o della panna come accompagnamento no?^^
i dont know .... i look at that hollow center now and want to fill it with whipped cream or butter cream.
Remind me so much of Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo..lol
IKR HAHAH
Mizu chan I m here for that
The history of how this cake became famous in Japan is a great one as it shows how small our world really is. Your video explaining how to make it is also awesome as can be! You are definitely the young Cooking Mama!
Hi :) For those who do not know what cake flour is, it is just plain flour mixed with a tbsp of corn starch. Hope this helps
Kelly Chan you could not be more wrong. Your version is a substitute not real cake flour
@@myname-uc6gr it's a good fucking substitute so would you please kindly shut tf up?
cake flour has low protein content so that it forms less gluten and is more tender during baking. I don't see how this subsitution would lower gluten content by a significant amount, but it may work in a pinch?
;)
Haha yeh :)
My thoughts exactly!! :)
make a rainbow one!
ya
***** No its NOT the baumkuchen its just cheap pancakeish roll.
そうそうw どうせなんちゃってバームクーヘンなのでね (*^-゚)v
this reminds me of the anime "Yumeiro Patissiere"
This is what exactly what the headmistress of the girls dormitory from the anime Yumeiro Patissiere did to make her baumkuchen
cake flour is this: createeathappy.blogspot.jp/2012/05/what-is-cake-flour.html
you can find more info on wikipedia, too!
you can try it with plain flour. i hear some people did and worked fine... but not 100% sure
I'm from germany and I really didn't know Baumkuchen is eaten in other countries than germany, even here you normally eat it during the christmas time mostly
I really love your tutorial, it's easy to understand and you are such a nice person, your videos always make my day :)

Hey Ms Ochikeron, I have tried making your Baumkuchen using Flaxseed replacing Eggs. It works! :)
wow for free!? =D
yes! i saw chocolate covered ones when i googled it in english! that is why!!!
i wish i could try the german one
Das ist kein richtiger Deutscher Baumkuchen das ähnelt ehr einem gerolltem plins oder so was
no. not the same. if you google it, you will know. but i think you can use it (w/o baking powder) for this recipe~
yumeiro patiessiere ? hahahah
that sounds nice :D
I've always wanted to try this after I watched Kobato~ :D I think it would be AMAZING if you could make a tutorial on how to create those adorable neko donuts! :3
this reminds me of an episode in Yumeiro Patissiere
you can make it thinner if you have a patience. hehe 5 layers are good enough ;)
I just discovered about this cake while reading a chapter of the manga Detective Conan. I wanna try to make this.
ヌテラって食べた事あります?日本にはない味で美味しいですよ〜w
Lol yumeiro patissiere taught me this!!!!!!
unsalted. but salted one is okay if you don't mind ;)
btw, i stay up late to make my videos :) hehe
there are many better than me in japan. hehe
i saw that kind of cake from Yumeiro Patissiere.. yummy
pls search my channel with "father's day"
Most of the comments I saw were all brought here by yumeiro patesseire, even me lol
:)
yumeiro patissiere brought me here too .. .
not that bad~ but it runs the gamut
hehehe
i am happy to hear that :) i always think trying out foods from other countries is difficult... my viewers (incl you) are pretty good at cooking i bet!!!
I'm surprised that baumkuchen can be cooked like tamago yaki...
perfect for quick fun snack 👍
I just made this today :) Mine taste like pancake and the texture is more dense rather than airy. I've never had baumkuchen before, so I don't how it supposed to taste. Is it supposed to taste like that?
I'm just here for Mashiro Shiina
voice, aww how nice of you. yeah, people say i am like cooking mama... haha
this is about as far away from baumkuchen as it could possibly be
+Xenodike It's a japanese style one. This is how they been doing it there since WWII. Plus the only difference I seen between the two is how it's cooked, and that's all. The cake itself just refers to the layers and not how it's cooked.
Thank you for this recipe and demonstration - I will certainly be trying this.
Greetings from Ireland :)
This reminds me of yumerio patisserie
you are welcome :)
I miss yumeiro patisserie
Layers of Fear manga brought me here. o.o
:)
:)
oh thank you =)
Looks awesome and delicious! And what acute and adorable spatula you have there!
This is a very good and cool idea, wow! THANKS
Hugs from Nothern Germany ;-D
Yumerio...... Patissiere
I also have it from that anime
I also have it from that anime
ヴィデオをありがとうございました!
どういたしまして💖
yes!
cooking mama makes baumkuchen?! 0_0 amazing! hehe
It's so hot in Japan. do you have any cold dish recipes? Can you mke "tomato oroshi"?
thank you :) most dishes i make are well known in japan
I've been looking for this recipe for months... Thanks :D
i hear that very often from my viewers. hehe
When you realize that most of the people who watched this video came after watching yumeiro patissiere
I KNOW , but the cake maybe too plain because japanese people recreate them and when they are japanese recreations they reduce alot the quantity of sugar and then the taste is to plain jeez !!!
Yeaah germany :D you make awesome videos great ;)) (iam ftom germany so very well )
whats the differents between cake flour and normal flour??
shiina brought me here
genial, esta receta ya la había visto en un anime, pero no me sabia los ingredientes, ahora si la voy a pode hacer...
Do you know what Baumkuchen means? It's pretty simple! Baum is the German word for 'tree' and Kuchen is the German word for 'cake'. Simply called a tree cake. The reason why it is called that way is that if you cut through a tree, you see these layers. Same with Baumkuchen. And the chocolate, which is originally poured on top of the cake, is like the coverage of the tree. I hope this was well explained ^^'
Yea good 👍
ありがとう!
Can I have the dimension of your Tamagoyaki Nabe pan? I bought one from Ebay but it seems to be very small!
Thanks! Your dimension is exactly the same as mine. But on the screen your pan seems to look bigger than mine. LOL
hehe
Awesome. I too saw it on Yumeiro Patissiere. It's nothing like the ones you see in shops, because, obviously, you don't have that roll thing.
Anyway, this reminds me of your (japanese) omelets. I'm not sure what it's called, but you make it in a similar fashion.
Could I use milk instead of cream?
Looks like a sweet bread roll. Never tried it but I wish to buy it.
It's good
here in the netherlands we have baumkuchen as snack, or dessert(in store there is baumkuchen with cream-strawberry/cherry jam, for 1,40euro of a roll)
Wow i will make this but i will increase the amount of sugar because japanese cakes are so plain :S
for better layers you can bake it a round cake pan layer by layer and yes cover it with chocolate ^^
I love Baumkuchen!
But in Germany the cake has a thin layer of chocolate on top.
Love your videos!
Greetings from Germany :)
exe xoxo
ありがとうございますう!!ლ(╹ε╹ლ)
I came from yumeiro patisserie
yay💕
hey,im from germany and this is not exactly the way how we do it.you have to spread it on a baking sheet and put it under the grill from your oven and let it brown.on this layer you put another layer of your dough and so on and so on ;) then you get a nice layered cake aswell!try this out its very easy but you have to watch carful burns quick ;)
Baumkuchen made in a pan O.o that´s genius XD You´re Tutorials are awesome!
Oh, a popular addition for the batter in Germany is orange liqueur, it adds a great taste and the cake is juicier.
In Germany Baumkuchen mainly sold at Christmas time, a bit like the japanese Christmas Cake and covered with a realy thin Layer of milk or dark chocolate.
Greetings from Germany!
I'm from Germany and only tried to make this cake twice... It always tastet very well, but it took me about 3 hours each, lol... Lately I'm thinking of becoming a pâtissier after high school. However, thinking I have to make many Baumkuchen makes me have nightmares ^^;
Anyway, I guess I'll try your recipe anyway because your recipes are always very tasty~
this is fantastic, ochikeron! arigatou gozaimasu! i will try this out. i can't believe how much i have to pay to buy baumkuchen from takashimaya in singapore when the ingredients are so basic. i feel so cheated now :( doesn't matter if it may not look as seamless or symmetrical as those sold in the shops as long as it tastes the same! :D
OMG. I´m from Germany and Baumkuchen is one of the most if not the most delicious cake ever.... when I was young I always went to a specific bakery and got some pieces of it for free.
But its so hard to make.
Btw, normaly Baumkuchen is covered in chocolate and it looks like rings stucked onto another. :)
(Just surch for Baumkuchen and you will find some pictures of it :) )
OMG THANK YOU
I want to have it
It looks really sweet. But I think you should know that, the orignal Baumkuchen is with almond paste and in Germany/Austria you bake it in the oven. you add a realy thin Layer, bake it for two minuts and add another layer
maybe you should try it =)
greating from Austria
Hi, I love your recipes, but they dont sell cake flour in the United Kingdom :'( I know most of the soft cake recipes, cake flour is important, but if possible can you put up more with all purpose flour? :) Thanks for the awesome stuff though, I have learnt about so many new foods watching your channel.
Thankyou so much, I've been looking for a way of making baumkuchen at home since I saw a charecter called Mashiro in an anime called 'Sakurasou no pet na kanajo' such a cute series ^.^ Oh do you know where online a rectangular pan can be purchased from? Thank-you in advance!
It must be a regional thing. I am German and my Japanese teacher actually told my class about this cake and how it was immensely popular in Japan, but none of us knew it or ever had it before. I might try it though ... how funny would that be, using a tutorial from a Japanese girl for a German cake :)
I am sorry.... But that is not a german "Baumkuchen". It's a pancake....
The whole recipe is wrong.
❌We germans doesn't use fresh creme or baking powder.
☝️ It's very important to use snow egg, to get a fluffy cake.
...in some german regions they use marzipan to make it..weet and juicy.
then come to here :D to germany *-*
i love baumkuchen too my dad bought it always for me at christmas time:3
This is a funny Way to make Baumkuchen, but the traditional way to make it is different. And the layers are very thin. This is really more like pancake. It's well known in the North side of Germany and here we eat it all the Time mit only for Christmas . :)
Whats the actual pronunciation of it? I heard germans pronouncing it as bow-m-kook-en
I was thinking of using the griddle I have at home instead of a square pan to make a bigger cake. But it doesn't have low medium and high, only the degrees. Around what degrees Fahrenheit do you think I should cook it at?
