There were just so many points where I was just going why? Why did he visit that planet - how did he know that woman was there - why did he need to go there for metal? Why did Sutekh care who Rubie’s Mum was? As the Doctor gets in the memory Tardis there’s no urgency to sort out what’s going on. When they all start running around connecting stuff up for no apparent reason. 73 yards, if the Tardis makes the 73 yards thing happen- how did that follow Ruby? Why did the alternate timeline still exist without ending before the dna law came in? Why did the snow follow Ruby if it was just Mrs Flood? Too many loose ends, things happened with no reason. I’m upset because I love Doctor Who.

I felt that IF rtd wrapped everything up, and I like others feel and maybe this is a hope that perhaps he didn't.. then there's 100% one thing left unsolved.
How, could an ordinary person, Ruby, with an ordinary mum and dad... Make it snow. I don't feel that ever got answered. so I'm hoping that there's a twist. Don't forget "there's always a twist at the end" and we never really got that twist...

i absolutely felt so stupid watching it. play stupid games, win stupid prizes ig. literally nothing about any of the explanations made sense? ok, you bring back the tardis perception filter and its connection to 73 yards... no elaboration or insight on what actually happened in 73 yards. im just supposed to point and say "oh! I know that one!" lame.
the fact that sutekh could not see louis miller just bc the doctor and ruby thought she was important is... what? that pissed me off so bad. like every person has people that find them to be the most important. what about them? what's so special about ruby and the doctor finding her important that THE GOD OF DEATH could not see her?
Why did the doctor's memory change? And why did the memory change lead to ruby being named...(not to mention, the naming the baby by pointing at the street sign is horrible. like how stupid do you think i am?)
there were so many nice ideas that couldve been tied together for a cohesive plot for the season. what happened to it?? The show is treating the viewers as if we are stupid. i wouldnt have minded the woman from the random planet who just so happened to have a SPOON that saved the universe if we at least somehow got some kind of parallels or explanation of the theme of the story... but nothing! the doctor just needed metal (which DEFINITLY was NOT in the tardis and all the junk it held) and that's it. what.
the episode was a ball of frustration that shouldve been crumpled up and ended in the bin. the potential of it made it worse than it couldve been on its own

    • @YoghurtKiss
      @YoghurtKiss Месяц назад +3

The first 5-10 minutes of the episode I was invested. Unit died, the earth died, everywhere and everyone died. Felt like a classic Season ending episode (Think Pandorica, Reality Bomb etc.) And then it was just 30 minutes of... "huh? Where is the payoff from everything we have learned throught the season?"
Why was there a "memory Tardis" in the broken but suddenly active Time window? No one knows, but we can use it as a regular Tardis! (instead of taking 14th's Tardis?...)
The Snow, the singing, the 'phase shifting mother' - Nah! That's just because Ruby, the Doctor and Suthek THOUGHT she was important, she was really just a regular no one.
73 yard episode, which I LOVED, could have been tied into the finale, they even mention the 66.7 meters / 73 yards. They mention the "mad PM" from the Future and the Doctor even asks if Ruby has any connection there... NO, nothing, no pay off, no psychic shennanigans or timelord science to read the parallell timeline where Ruby got old etc... Honest to God, if the Doctor had learned that Ruby had lived a whole parallell life etc, THAT could've helped explain why her mother was even MORE special since due to Rubys interference with the "alternate timeline" her Mother was never tested and thus the mystery could've dragged on... But no, let's no acklowledge that Ruby someone knows about the 73 yard thing even though she doesn't remember.
Mrs Flood seeming villanous in the previous part, only to be sad/afraid as she is dying embracing Rubys grandmother, then coming back happy, breaking the 4th wall again - But no mention of her strange behaviour by anyone.
As you mentioned; Why did the Doctors memory change of Ruby Road? If he had said "My memory kept changing because we travelled to and from that place in the memory tardis" I would be fine with it, but it's not even acknowledged.
Sutekh, THE GOD OF DEATH, can't wither away a rope around his neck?...
Random planet, with a random woman, because the Doctor needs a spoon? Wtf was that? Why?! I could understand if the woman in question was one of the people we encountered through one of the seasons episodes, like the Doctor going back to see if Sutekh actually killed everyone everywhere... But it's "just a random planet" and what's with the Spoon?
The whole episode feels like there are tons of scenes missing, like it was supposed to be 30 minutes longer but things were cut down for TV release.

Honestly, Sutekh clinging to the outside of the Tardis when House was in control is fine imo. Tardis was never Destroyed by the Daleks, we COULD argue that Suthek being death, stopped Death so that Meta-crisis Doctor could be born (thus rendering Donna useless but nevermind that...). The BIG BANG though... Is the hard one for me, because not only does the Tardis explode, it does so in an alternate Timeline where the Doctor is trapped until he is summoned back by Amys memories to "our" reality. So Sutekh had ridden through parallels too. He is swirling with "void stuff" though, should've kept the 3D glasses from when the Daleks came through with the void sphere.

Bit of a let down after the penultimate episode brought things to an absolute fever pitch. Some unanswered questions (Why does Ruby cause the snow?) and some logic gaps (Why does the time vortex kill Sutekh now when he survived hanging onto the TARDIS? Why do we only see Susan Twist now if he's been seeding them across every adventure?) but mostly the pacing just grinds to a screeching halt and never regains momentum even though it's the end of all life. Also for all that the show has touted its "enhanced Disney budget" all season the finale felt weirdly low key taking place in the UNIT standing set with only a few acolytes (heh) to fill in the space. I did enjoy Ruby getting her happy reunion instead of being brushed aside or finding out she was unwanted, but yeah this felt somewhat anticlimactic to end the season on.

Now the rest of the episode... Felt like when Tennant became space Jesus and defeated the Master with love. So this is what I thought was gonna happen,
My idea for the Doctor being able to destroy Sutekh would have gone a bit like this,
Sutekh has been latched onto the TARDIS ever since the 4th Doctors adventure with sarah Jane Smith all the way back then, so everytime the TARDIS has landed he's pooped out a Susan twist to effect that time zone,
Now it would make sense that everytime Sutekh has done that, that's been a fixed point for the Doctor as he can't undo all of his adventures, so when he finds out he can use the memory TARDIS (which should have been teased alot more in the series aswell as in Tales of the TARDIS), Thee Doctor should have then used the Memory TARDIS to pin point (using all the stories the Memory TARDIS has collected) to find the exact moment that Sutekh latched himself to the TARDIS (Back in 1974)
The reason for not killing The Doctor when he had the chance (because he's had alot of chances has our Sutekh) is because the Doctor is part of the TARDIS, if you kill the Doctor, you kill the TARDIS (established in turn left) and because the TARDIS is key to Sutekhs entire plan, Sutekh should have been trying to trap the doctor instead and take over his mind (so when the Doctor runs and away, Sutekh tries to get to Mel to trap the Doctor, this story arc still happens except Mel could have been summoned to the present to Guard the TARDIS from Unit)
The Doctor, Ruby Sunday and Mel by his side, use the Memory TARDIS, find the psychic interface that allowes them to revisit and alter the memory imprint of past events without changing the actual timeline (because Using the Power of a Memory TARDIS has the ability to do that) though theyve got to be had to be precise. A single misstep could lead to the complete unraveling of the Doctors entire timeline since 1974 (So v high stakes).
So when they go back to the Pyramids of Mars episode they have to tread carefully as not to bump into the 4th Doctor and Ruby (what would have been really fun is if they somehow editited to the Tales of the TARDIS episode so that while watching the orginal episodes you catch glimpses of The 15th Doctor and Ruby in the background) (as its a memory altering TARDIS this would fit in so well)
We could get super intense moments where the Doctor is stressing to Ruby how "Eye of the needle) careful they have to be
Carefully, they approached the scene where the past Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith were battling Sutekh. As the pivotal moment approached, the Doctor used the Memory TARDIS to create a temporal echo, diverting Sutekh's essence away from the real TARDIS and towards the Memory TARDIS instead.
But Sutekh, sensing the change, fought back. The Doctor's then realises Sutekh knows of this disepction, has to Use the mollecular Rope to Tie Sutekh to the Memory TARDIS, Sutekh was weak after the 'Pyramids of Mars' and that's the only reason he isn't able to break free, the Doctor then takes the Memory tardis into the raw heart of the time Vortex, somthing the Memory TARDIS can't quite withstand, but using Ruby's Memory of the ship (and her apparent enhanced psychic abilities because of the TARDIS) She begins to remember hearing the TARDIS as a baby, and as they're in the heart of the vortex the Memory tardis amplifies this Memory across all of time and space, (also using Ruby's preexposure to the time window and a butt ton of atron energy) now that's why whenever Ruby reflects on that Memory, it snows, because the power of that memory has been cascaded throughout time itself (which is why that Memory is so powerful)
The struggle is intense. Sutekh's power is beginning to surge, threatening to overwhelm the Memory TARDIS and the memories the doctor is using to hold the TARDIS together. But the Doctor, with his indomitable will, pushed through. With a final burst of energy, he sealed Sutekh within the Memory TARDIS. Weaving him into the fabric of that TARDIS
Sutekh is trapped in the Memory TARDIS. He can't affect the real timeline anymore.
But it wasn't over yet. The Doctor knew that as long as Sutekh existed, even within the Memory TARDIS, he still posed a threat. The only way to truly end his reign of terror was to destroy him within the Time Vortex itself.
The Doctor initiated a collapse sequence. The Memory TARDIS starts to disintegrate, its structure unraveling, the Doctor's memories cascading throughout time, along with the memories of Ruby Road, (again why they have so much power)
Sutekh's essence, once powerful, began to waver. Without the stability of the Memory TARDIS, he couldn't withstand the Vortex's energy as he isnt in a physical body, Sutekh burns up and his form disintegrating into nothingness.
In the present, the TARDIS, no longer under Sutekh's influence (as time has changed), bursts into life. Acting on its own accord, it locked onto the Doctor's location. As the Memory TARDIS collapsed, the real TARDIS materialized around him and Ruby, reabsorbing the remnants of the Memory TARDIS and saving them in one swift motion, we know it can do this because of wild blue Yonder
Then the whole Ruby's mam situation could have been settled after the fact, and the reason we couldn't make out her face is because when Ruby was remembering in the time vortex she accidentally and inadvertently caused the TARDIS's perception filter to shrowed the memory of her mams face, and because the Woman was standing "73 yards" away from them at time (this is also why 73 yards is as important as it is) so now factoring that in, the Doctor using the TARDISs psychic interface and now boosted memory powers from the absorbed memory TARDIS manages to undo the Perception filter that has been effecting Ruby's mam ever since that moment, thus allowing them then find her easily as the entire time before, every element of Ruby's mam was inadvertently being hidden from everyone because of the Perception filter mishap back in 2004,

It was pretty straight forward. The big rat thing with the dog collar farted out death smoke and his little slave people blew the death smoke all over the universe and everybody died, just like in the Avengers movie. Everyone got Thanosed, except the Doctor, Mel, and Ruby.
They got in this really screwed up TARDIS, short off into space, and The Doctor stopped, opened the doors and cried and screamed. Very emotional this Doctor. He screamed really loud.
Then he went to some weird planet with some weird lady making tea and they had an innocuous discussion and she gave him a spoon which fixed a broken CRT somehow, and the Dog Monster found them, and The Doctor and Ruby put a leash on his butt, and dragged his stupid but behind the broken down TARDIS, and everywhere they dragged his sorry butt life came back, and then when all the life came back, the Doctor humanely put dog man down.
Then they went back to UNIT did a DNA test on Ruby, found her utterly irrelevant mum, and The Doctor left... CRYING AGAIN. That dude has got a serious testosterone deficiency.

    Mrs. Flood.
I've felt for a while that she must be a Time Lord, the question is which one.
The dialogue in this two-parter plus her "haven't seen a Tardis in fifty years..." leads me to one conclusion.
She is a previously unseen incarnation of the Master, the one which followed Roger Delgado's incarnation.
Why else would it be 'fifty years'?
Assuming this to be true, it would have made a more satisfying ending to have simply seen Flood discover/summon the memory Tardis and make a short comment to the effect of "At last...it's a shame the delivery was so slow but finally, the spare parts I needed are here..." - produces a sonic screwdriver and approaches the Tardis menacingly.
It would have served to give a partial answer in letting us know she is a Time Lord, the specifics left to be revealed/confirmed later.
As for the UNIT depicted in this series, i'm far from impressed.
One of the primary features of the Doctor/UNIT dynamic was always one of begrudging respect, the Doctor rarely agreeing with UNIT's gung-ho militaristic approach to problem solving but working together out of necessity.
We now see the once august institution that was UNIT reduced to a simpering fan club for the Doctor. The cheap looking robot gives off SJA Mr. Smith vibes (but worse), Rose apparently serves little purpose other than tinkering with ipad to no discernible effect (plus acts at a level more suited to an end-of-year school pantomime) and as much as I like the actor Morris' presence makes very little sense.
When life was restored I was hoping there would be a few remaining piles of sand in UNIT HQ.
All in all - much like the rest of this series - I found the finale to be a mixed bag. It had it's moments but I feel a more focused story with fewer components would have been more powerful, something RTD has certainly proven he can do in the past.
P.S. I was so relieved to see the memory Tardis was not going to be the new interior moving forward. It served a purpose in this story but i'm glad we're sticking with the glorious new interior used through the rest of the series. Hopefully it will remain (perhaps with minor alterations) for the next Doctor or two, as i'm rather tired of the constant need to replace it whenever the Doctor regenerates. It makes very little sense in most cases.

As good as the message is it just nullifies all the set up and now the fantasy element is purely based on salt - we’re given no explanations as to why dr who has changed beyond “we do fantasy with goblins now” the science is purely limited to technobabble without any depth and the history lessons that old who had are erased. I really enjoyed a lot of this series especially “the legend of ruby Sunday” but when you just leave things unanswered with an unsatisfying explanation it just doesn’t make good sci fi. I think the only good thing about this finale is the point you make here which is v important but maybe not with the fantasy scene that has been set up and foreshadowed

So just my thoughts. Long post.
I LOVED the first half Mel being a badass, unit going down. The scene with Mrs Flood Anita nailed it I honestly wouldn’t mind if she was the next missy. The scene with the spoon and the woman was brilliant her actress nailed it too. That being said. The second half really felt hollow.
Sutekh shouldn’t have been on the tardis since pyramids of mars. He should’ve been on the tardis when it absorbed the flux. He could’ve been cast outside the universe when 4 defeated him. When division engineered the flux as a force of death in their base outside the universe he would’ve been able to ride it back in like the toy maker could because of the salt being cast where the walls were thin. The doctor threw his tardis in front as soon as it was released remember. That would have made it much more personal for 15 as it was HIS specific adventures that gave sutekh power and why twist only just started appearing. When 15 split the tardis in the giggle that really let him into her and allowed him to start his plan. His defeat could also have fixed the death caused by the flux too as he was linked.
Rubys mum and the hooded figure should have been revealed to be two different people. A 15 year old in 2004 dressed in a Charles Dickens cloak pointing at a sign ? Still doesn’t explain her snow powers and why her memories are stronger than anyone else’s or maestros comments. The hooded figure could’ve been another osiran left on earth as a fail safe if sutekh returned. That’s why sutekh couldn’t read her or identify her. Ruby was actually left at a hospital or the hooded figure took her to do whatever it did and put her back and trying to be kind it chose what it thought was s random unwanted baby to use in the fight. When the doctor went back in time in the Xmas special to the church it sensed sutekh and sutekh sensed it which led to ruby being left at the church in the first place, a paradox. The eye of Horus that kept sutekh prisoner in the pyramids of mars was a ruby, ruby has the powers of a new eye hence her name and her strange abilities, she’s still a normal human and once sutekh is defeated she’s totally normal. She could’ve still had the scene with her mum AND a payoff to the mystery.
I could go on overall the parts were there but it was a bit anticlimactic. Rant over lol

I started this ep with very high expectations cause season has been stellar so far, in my opinion, and I really enjoy RTD writing (usually). Mid way I decided to just lower my expectations to "just suspend disbelief and enjoy" but at the end with [spoilers] ..her name? From pointing? But how would the priest have known? And the solution being the same as the Pyramids OM basically? Is half of Sutekh hanging on to Tennant's Tardis? Why did it snow around Ruby? Because a couple of people wondered about who her mum was? What? It kinda ripped me out of the show completely when I realized they had probably written it and someone said "shit... wait... how would her mum know her name was Ruby?" or such lol. And the SPOON?? In all of the universe throughout all time you ... A SPOON? Ugh.

The season finale was good imo as a whole but the very ending and explanations were really underwhelming. I'm aware that this has always been the show's way of doing things, but for some reason, it bothered me this season more than ever before. Maybe it just wasn't handled very well, or maybe i'm getting older and more sensitive to these things. In any case: Gatwa became one of my favorite Doctors, up there with Tom Baker and Matt Smith. very confused by this episode. i dunno if it was the worst of the season. space babies was pretty darn goofy. but i feel like there was a lot of hype around this episode for it to end up just being RTD hitting CTRL+Z once again.... he loves to just cause mass death or destruction and just press UNDO on everything and everythings good again. It makes it feel kinda cheap. Almost as cheap as Moffat killing characters over and over again and always being like "fooled you" Ruby being shocked by who her mom was.... the whole time being dressed like Jenny.... Curious if there was a potential 2nd ending here where she was the Doctors Daughter since they did also reveal this season that Susans mother wasnt even born yet. But we also confirmed Ruby was human not timelord or anything so.... Some really cool potential here just to have it all kinda fall flat for me in the end. The thing that made Ruby so amazing and special was..... That she was ordinary, born to an ordinary teen pregnancy where she was give up as an infant to protect her from a worse life likely full of abuse. Kinda sets a false tone for adopted people too though. Reuniting with your birth parents isn't always happy. Resident Alien did a great example of how sometimes youre better off not meeting your birth mother. I feel like more often than not shows like to make it seem like its only sunshine and rainbows finally getting that closure.
still pretty much enjoyed the whole season even though i felt let down by this episode. curious if we will see Ruby again RTD does love to bring back companions. This whole season has been bitter sweet for me sadly knowing Millie hadnt been signed on for a 2nd season right out of the gate then only having an 8 episode season growing to love these 2 together and now feeling robbed of potentially 5 more episodes if we stuck to the good old 13 but even just 2 more episodes if we went with the 10. But I guess its Better than how they completely sabotages Flux which had way to grand a story to wrap up in so few episodes

The finale leaned too much on classic who. The whole mystery of Ruby's mom pointing to a street sign seems to me something a six year old could imagine and write. Huge letdown there.I also hated the idea that Sutech's minions so easily took over the tardis or that he's been effectively stowed away around the tardis since the Pyramids of months nonsensical Surely Captain Jack would have got more than he bargained for when he hitched a ride to the end of the universe! Surely he would have told the Doctor that something was afoot. Failing that the Tardis's psychic circuits would have issued some kind of warning... Of course the Finale also doesn't add up because Russell forgot that this isn't the same Tardis as the one from Pyramids of Mars!

What the hell was up with the Doctor throwing a temper tantrum?!?! Throwing a hissy fit isn’t being a bad ass. Why did he lie to Ruby and not tell her the 4th Doctor was him with Sarah Jane? He’s never not pointed out himself like that before. He likes pointing out when he’s being clever. He just become a crybaby that has no inner strength. I thought he left his sadness and insecurities with 14 when he bi-generated. That was the whole point of it all. The Doctor should have noticed Mel was falling under Sutakh’s influence too. Usually he notices everything like that. Remember, clever. Not the 1st time he’s used a spoon to win a significant battle.
Ms. Flood, was acting very Missy like at the end but this show has been all hype and no delivery.

      He did notice mel
He wasn't "throwing a tantrum" ALL LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE WAS DESTROYED. you know what's being a badass? Being emotionally adept enough to recognize how monumental a loss the entire universe was.
      Come on. Stop being reductive.
Bad writing? Absolutely. But don't come for the doctor.
Yall need to get over the fact that badass men can cry now.

everyone was forgetting things due to Sutekh. Like the woman who gave him the spoon forgetting her baby died.
The doctor didn’t lie he just forgot that the 4th doctor was him

The fucking universe died because HE traveled all over it and unwittingly allowed Sutekh to plant bombs all over time and space. No shit he’s gonna be sad. And as for not noticing Mel, he literally did

@@alicem2103 13 killed the entire universe off already in Flux. Including our solar system. Near as I can tell, they’ve never explained how it still exists in the first place. Of course, I try to pretend 13 never happened at all. So, that helps. Jumping up and down while screaming will always be throwing a tantrum too by the way. 15 doesn’t act like an ancient Time Lord at all.

Not it for me. I had been so excited and though i enjoyed alot. Overall it was underwhelming. Being at tbe cinema was cool.
I loved him moving the TARDIS round for some reason. This gave me a greater sense of his power than him turning everything to dust. Possibly my favourite scene as it gave me a chill.

Nah, mate. This wasn’t it. All that build up for nothing. I was so excited to have RTD back as it was him that got me into Who as a kid, and I really enjoyed the specials last year, but nah. This was such a letdown. If he wanted to get new viewers in, I don’t think he would have succeeded with this nonsense.
