Two Marines were walking through Walmart. My 4 year old son froze. He pointed to the two Marines. “Daddy... look. Heroes.” I stopped the two Marines, each twice my size. “Guys,” I said, “my son would like to shake your hands.” The two Marines suddenly stood at attention then each knelt down and shook my boy’s hand. They spoke to him for a minute or so. They were so kind, so gentle. Then they stood and saluted and my son instantly saluted back. Then they walked away. 17 years later my son became a United States Marine. It was his dream, instilled by those two warriors. My son was severally injured and was honorably discharged two years later. But his dream was realized. Thanks guys.
This reminds me of the quote famously attributed to G. K. Chesterton: "A true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him."
Tell that to the Marines that show up for fund raisers and stuff around here. Most of them are too busy on their smart phones to shake hands or even make eye contact with anyone.
It's beautiful... the one fighting for hate is doing what he does because he is *EAGER TO KILL* for what he believes in... but the one fighting out of love, is *WILLING TO DIE* for it.
Why would you ever have kids and a partner when being a soldier, at least if you’re being sent to war. The damage you inflict emotionally to those you leave behind is so huge, I just think it’s a very selfish thing, even if you serving isn’t.

I like men generally; they tend to be good Allie’s if you’re in a situation (and I always am). I just thought there was something nice about it. Men get trashed on a lot but there’s some good ones out there. We wouldn’t probably be able to live our lives as free people without the military protecting the constitution of the United States for us. I think our freedom is paid for by the military and for this they ask very little. I think this is an under appreciated perspective but very valid even within United States borders. I also liked how neat clean and composed the Marines were. So I’m saying thank you in my roundabout way. It’s hard in the political climate to know what to trust or think. But I do know that they are protecting us from real threats to our values and that those values are important not superfluous, the constitution. I’m pleased a child was allowed to be part of this ceremony. I feel they are saying their power is derived from what they are trying to protect.
@TravelCoach24 Well thats one way to look at it, mostly the one-dimensional way. I'm not promoting war at all, but killing has always been a part of human history, it's not a new concept. Maybe the tools have changed, but the behaviour has been there all way long. And of course i do no agree into governments going to war, but i always support the troops. If you'd like to have less war, vote for another government. I live in europe and without people willing to "murder" others, there would be a picture of the Führer hanging in every school, every government building. So where do you draw the line, at which point a war is "right", the reasons for it are "good". Thats what i mean by describing "one-dimensional".

That's so awesome, no higher honor sir ,than the love and respect of your family.
That's what we're sadly losing in this country. God bless you and your family.

Thank you for this touching story. I also thank your son for his service, I hope he is able to realize what his sacrifice gave us, and continues to give us…freedom!

You look so beautiful
I liked you😘
I tried joining the Marines after my mother passed away when I was 17. I was declined due to being asthmatic. To this day… 42 years later… I feel a great sense of lose in my life… for both my mom and my missed opportunity to serve with the greatest military on earth. I thank each and every one of you for your service. Semper Fi.
i too was denied after having both high school JrOtc and 2 yrs of ROTC under my belt. i had broken up with a young woman who had cheated on me but 45 days later i was told i was going to be a father of which i had doubts was my blood. was denied because i was not married and had a child on the way. i tried 5 times taking the ASVAB(SP?) test and on the 5th attempt almost made it thru... so i felt very bitter i was not able to persue my lifes dream of serving... but i became a good father despite my ex's 20 yr attempt to make my life miserable. I admire and respect all branches of our military and in my heart know that i would have been a good soldier.
Denied USAF for the same reason in the mid 90s. Would have been cool to become an aircraft mechanic.
Haven’t won a war since 1945. Real dads stay home. Not go overseas to kill other dads.
@@bradleyandrew8971 Oh aren't you just precious.
@@DistendedPerinium American war machine is the ruling class recruiting the underclass using “watch cute family greet part time daddy and family slayer” films. This ensures military investments continue to fund ruling class extravagance and the under educated and under employed continue to enlist.
GOD Bless our man, & woman. Who serve this great country of ours. They do what they do. Not out of hate. But out of love ❤️. For what they have back home.
To my big Brother Ivory and my younger Billy. Thank you for your service. ONCE A MARINE, ALWAYS A MARINE AND FOREVER A MARINES SISTER. ❣Thank you to ALL who have served and those who made the ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. ❣
That's was too cool. Congrats to you Sergeant, Congrats to your youngster as well!

Now everyone wears them, but ya know what, there are a lot more kids doing time where it ain't safe. I see a lot of kids going in now finding new respect for the Rangers and what they have to do compared to other branches. I tell them Rangers have got to always be ready to get their hands dirty. There are a lot of good people going in. Many wanting to be part of a unit where they can say "Airborne", be it 101, 82, or Rangers with a "Airborne" rocker over the top of the 75th scroll. Proud of these kids. I always steer them toward learning about the lineage of the Rangers, especially from Viet Nam era. They eat it up. Only hard working kids are gonna be in the military now. The average kid on the street today isn't worth a damn. They're all mommy's boys.
My dad was a Marine. I can feel that little girl's pride.
I love how he looked at the first one to make sure they were lined up. Too much attention to detail for a kid that age…he’s going places!
The smiles on their faces said it all.
Thank you, to all who have served.
I'm disabled Army and found this to be the best promotion ceremony I've ever witnessed. Thank you all, stay safe, stay frosty.
Great moment for Father and Son.👍👍
This is what we are fighting for our family and friends and we must not let them down when they needed us the most.and our country needed us we where there .
OMG, cuteness overload.
ibuprofenPill we've got a couple trolls in our midst

And everyone in the squad was suppressing a smile - love that...
Fantastic to see a young son promote huis father ,respect from the U.K
So cute. Good job. My brother just retired as a Col. From the US Marine Corps. Glad to have him home.
Hello dear
How are you doing today?
As a former marine Sgt I loved this video. I loved serving. This must have been a real joy to have your daughter pin you. Simper fi.
As the father of a Marine, I can say that loving and valuing your children is walking in the footsteps of your father. Sometimes you don't get to choose who your family is, sometimes you do.
If anyone ever thought that a Marine doesn't shed a tear, I'm sure there were a few tears of joy amongst the rank and file that day. Semper Fi gentlemen!
I will always love my brothers from other mothers who serve and protect our country!! I wish I could be with my brothers!
Thank you to all those who have served our country! Hoorah! 🇺🇸💪
His daughter is the angel he fights for! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!! God Bless the Queen!!

Thank you so much for your service and God bless you and your family!
Amazing display of discipline, honor, and love! Thank you for your service brothers!
This is what our service men and women fight for. So that little girl can grow up Safe, Proud of her Country and be the Princess her Father obviously sees. The Marines standing around watching probably wish their Prince or Princess was there for them too. God Bless this Family ,Those shown and all our Troops and America the land of the Free, because of the BRAVE. Semper Fi
We used to call these Kodak moments. A mental image that stays in the memory forever.
