I think the sloppiness of shredding and an over-all lack of melody are bigger factors in how shredding sounds bad than vibrato and bending. Although obviously you can completely rape something by bending way off pitch constantly. As for vibrato, you can't really tell someone they're using it too much or too little, because it's entirely dependant on taste. Some like to use vibrato all the time, some like to use it sparingly. Some like a deep vibrato, some like a very subtle one.
That last comment was a response to finowa. I forgot to mention that I agree, a perfect guitar player should be the total package, but nobody is a perfect player.
honestly, fast players come a dime a dozen. it's one thing to learn how to replicate fast finger movements across the fretboard, but it's the feel of your INSTRUMENT that really shows what you're able to do. i won't use the word "emotion" since it isn't really relevant. i really don't get the "who cares about the vibrato he's better than all of you" remarks. who the fuck cares about another francesco fareri clone if they can't hold a single note without making it sound like shit?
in general. vibrato and bending doesnt require just metronome practice, it requires a good ear and accuracy, control, aswell as strength, and requires the player to have feel to make use of it properly. it is especially hard when you play a fast phrase and end it with a wide vibrato note followed by another fast passage. also, just common sense-wise, take youtube for instance, there are thousands that can shred, but few that can acctually make it sound good.
you are good :D I would work a bit on my left hand's fingering , if you keep your fingers closer to the strings and economize a little movement you could get a lot more fluid :D anyway! nice playing and guitar
uve got the skills to play this and much harder songs , but in this vid there were some minors problems specially on 0:15->0:16 & 0:19->0:21 cuz ure not playing all the notes. or maybe ure playin but i cant hear it . but amazing job overall ;)
Pretty good cover, I play along with that song using guitarpro as well. I see what you mean with 80% of the solo, I noticed the last 20% wasn't really how it goes but it still sounded killer and I doubt anybody that doesn't know the song noticed anyways :P
Good apart from the vibrato/bending.While it's easier to master a decent vibrato than many other techniques its often overlooked.Your bending and vibrato sound far less controlled than your alternate picking etc and imo it would make you sound much more complete if you worked on it.Early days yet though, you have plenty of time to develop your skills ,good luck :)
are people really commenting on how the kid doesn't have vibrato? just be quiet. Give credit where credit is obviously do. Don't be like "Oh you're great!!!! but you don't have vibrato (shaking you're wrist a certain way, pretty much) so you aren't really THAT good." And he does use vibrato in certain parts, sooooo argument over. Good job man. Keep up the good work.
Well, if you havente tried learning this yourself yet its fucking hard, it took me a week to get it to my own precision. Notice he plays the fast lick perfectly? He can only not alternate pick its just he hasnt had enough time to practice and is obviously ready to record him jamming it lol
everyone's saying about vibrato, fair enough its nice to hve and improves the feeling, but with the rest of a band in the background you wouldnt notice if he didnt use any, plus with the speed of that song its bloody hard to get time for vibrato!! good effort man!!
I think one of the single most important things to learn well when playing the guitar is the art of bending the string. Your technical playing is great but your bends are a little out of tune and lack a certain emotional feel to them. So yeah I would def work on that! Good work!
excellent playing, but what you need here is more agression, starting with your tone, which needs to be a lot crunchier (if you want to achieve the gilbert feel). Also, use your picking to accent timing, certain notes, etc. and it will sound a lot better. beautiful guitar btw.
Nice work...try a bit more palm muting, and for the monster pentatonic lick in the very beginning of the solo, try doing it three note per string rather than up the standard pentatonic shape...I think you'll find it to be easier and cleaner
I was wondering about that too, but if you look closely, it looks like it's economy picking. It's strange because Paul Gilbert is, I'm told, a militant alternate-picker, but the riff really does lend itself to economy picking. Either way, it's good practice.
Solid picking, sounds good overall (passives would probably help), but you should be palm muting that main riff in the beginning/end, and the fast sixlets need cleaning up. Good work other than that.
I m trying to play kissing the shadow. I m still rusty on the licks and all. u made it look easy dude. where do u get ur backup music. u know, the music for the background. rythm.
I promise you - if I had that guitar I would practice day and night. But instead this sales man gave me a stupid expensive ibanez that I'm now stuck with. Thank you god ;(
holy shit, that made my day. you are one kick ass guitar player. the only other person who i've seen play technical difficulties that good is paul gilbert. keep on rocking.
what lame argument? i said it's funny to see you guys try and give him pointers when he's like 5 times better than you, it was a statement dude, so calm down.
that was pretty much amazing. the only thing i have to say is that i didn't like the tone of your guitar too much, a little too warm and round for the song IMO.
floating floyd trems make unison bends go out of tune unless you get good at counterbalancing the bridge with your right hand and thats hard to get right.
very well played. i agree with everyone that says more vibrato. vibrato puts emotion and feeling into te music. should be used on pretty much any held note
i have a little criticism. in the little bits of shredding it seeems like you left off some notes. overall though, stellar. couldn't do it better myself. :D
oot kyl ihan hullu kitaristi! :D oot siis 4 vuotta soitellu tai enemmän? mää oon itse soittanut vasta päälle 2vuotta (kohta 3) ja vielä on harjoittelemista. Mahtavaa soittamista!! 5*
Excellent playing on a beautiful guitar with a great sound.

Awesome job bro!!! Your alternate picking is really good
I saw Paul Gilbert not so long ago and he played this. Fucking awesome. Love your shit. Keep up the goodwork.
Awesome! I love that guitar
I didn't say he can't, someone asked how he got his backing tracks but its guitar pro he's using.
hey dude!very nice work nd very nice guitar!!is that an ESP or an LTD?
dude ...im one of your fan your just awsomly awsome XD.lol yeah your really good
That last comment was a response to finowa.

Cool, love your Nevermore and Bodom sweep etc stuff. Paul Gilbert rulez. This is also very good, but the main riff needs some muting ;)

Very well played. How much did your SV Standard cost you?
paul would be proud

AMAZING as usual from u
uve got the skills to play this and much harder songs , but in this vid there were some minors problems specially on 0:15->0:16 & 0:19->0:21 cuz ure not playing all the notes. or maybe ure playin but i cant hear it . but amazing job overall ;)

Hey,
now you can flame me too!
I've put up some videos of me playing!
Looking forward to your comments finnish shredder ;)

Great techinique dude, just add more bass to your tone and lower the treble and you will have the sound probibly. but amazing nonetheless
Solid picking, sounds good overall (passives would probably help), but you should be palm muting that main riff in the beginning/end, and the fast sixlets need cleaning up. Good work other than that.
wow, fucking impressive. im not bashing or anything but i think that the intro is muted. very fucking good tho. keep it up bro!!!
I m trying to play kissing the shadow. I m still rusty on the licks and all. u made it look easy dude. where do u get ur backup music.

great job man, if you like paul gilbert check out some of my vids. Keep up the good work man.
floating floyd trems make unison bends go out of tune unless you get good at counterbalancing the bridge with your right hand and thats hard to get right.
paul gilbert made this song look very easy. but the intro is quite a challenge.
I've been trying to learn it, hard yet fun to learn :D
nice cover pal!
@XavSch lol yeah and i love his little 3 string sweeptap at the end of the solo just added a little laiho touch in it.
actually he does. Dimarzio PAF pro's were on the original track. possibly a tone zone in the bridge instead. gilbert changes his pups alot.
very nice playing man your fast and accurate
Beautiful guitar my man!! Great sound . Your palm muting sounded like a machine gun. Steady and even!! Me like!!
and what would help you a lot is to buy a wah wah pedal and keep it open in the middle ... that would make your playing sound not so flat
just cause he's fast dosnt mean he can't do the rest. My friend and guitarist can play most genres well for a guy of his age. so calm down.
Would have been better if the song you're playing too was a little louder so I could make it out better but brilliant dude. Keep rocking.
very nice. indeed!
the part when you played the guitar... must be my favorite XD
i can't choose anything more specific since you're that damn good.
put some more aggression into your playing and don't miss the palm mutes for the "main riff" in the beginning
noone ever plays that thing at 1:43 its like super easy. if you want the tabs send ma a message and i'll send them to you
nice job man, but the crosspicking parts in the intro are supposed to be palm muted, doesnt sound so good when they arent.
well im in America and i can tell its not a alexi sig. they dont have bridge pickups just a single HB
the SV does....
You are fucking good, but to play this right u really have to nail that Gilbert tone. It lacks the feeling without it.
But do they sound bad because they can't bend or use vibrato properly or because their shredding is sloppy?
If you keep your hands closer to the fretboard while you play, it seems like you have much moore control.
That's because they don't have lisence to sell that guitar on US. U can buy one from Japan or from Finland
Nice playing man, the only thing missing was vibrato. Still, well done, it's hardly an easy piece =P.
oops yeah lol ur right haha im not very technical when it come to guitars i just know how to play lol
Where's the palm muting? Otherwise, it's really good!
How do you record it with that good quality?
dude, did u take guitar classes. I wanna play thoes crazy licks. how did u learned. message back dude
you're a little bit out of time ;-) but very nice job man! you're a beast! sorry for my english =)
nice cover dude sadly im not a fan of esp (for issues that may upset people) but it sounds great
@NonstopRocker03 yea you're right, he plays everything perfectly yet it doesn't sound good
@Intodeathmetal24 It's an ESP SV Standard :) I'm saving money for one of these axes too :p
quite right it does sound great, perfect clear note and not muffled but the overdrive/dist
oh my fucking god dude...that shit was amazing...you need to give me some damn lessons XD
oooo an esp man. I have an LTD, EX-400, too poor for a real esp :( very good cover though
man ur a beast at playin that thing lol
I think this guys guitar has a neck pickup. Some EMG I think :D I can see the screws!
not bad. but i think you should work with a metronome a bit more. keep on shreddin'!
that was awesome, personally i think palm muting the intro part makes it sound better
Yeah, you do need to work on your bends, but otherwise great cover man!
What about palm muting? LOL is a lot easier if you don't do it
Anyway well done...
Sounds pretty good!
Just try to palm mute a bit more in the intro. ;)
Give me some palm mute, besides that, awesome dude, you've got serious talent.
nice job man, u r good guitar player, a like the winter madness solo the most ;)
you can sweep very well, obviously, but you need to learn to alternate pick.
Look up his Via Purifico video. This video is two and a half years old.
He gets free ones just by asking...lucky guy, I wish I were sponsored :(
It looks like Alexi Laiho playing Paul Gilbert haha, great playing 5/5
Great choice of music Racer X, Wintersun, Children of Bodom. love em.
you should palm mute the first riff! other than that, fucking great!
where did you get a shirt of wintersun??
by the way, this is perfect
sweet axe. is it still in production? i cant find it on the esp site.
very well played. i agree with everyone that says more vibrato. vibrato puts emotion and feeling into te music. should be used on pretty much any held note
great job...but 4/5 cause u didn't use mute when needed..but well done
damn good work on the vibrato but the shredding is pretty damn clean
great!!
i have a little criticism. in the little bits of shredding it seeems like you left off some notes. overall though, stellar. couldn't do it better myself. :D
how fun would it be to have a guitar that sounded like his.... T-T
problably you ue guitar pro too but he can play all things good
Wow amazing man! Ur guitar makes me wanna move outta the u.s.
they broke up Paul gilbert mostly plays with his own band now
esp sv standard bk gh is it called and in thomann u can find it with 1666 euros, but with chrome hardware only....
fucking good ! really good !!! great ! perfect !! lol nice !
Sounds a bit like that one part in Sioux City Sarsaparilla :D
Seriously, great job playing Gilbert. Wish I was that good.
lol... you play scales exactly like alexi laiho plays them
please please tell me you are in a band, cos if not.......
oot kyl ihan hullu kitaristi! :D oot siis 4 vuotta soitellu tai enemmän? mää oon itse soittanut vasta päälle 2vuotta (kohta 3) ja vielä on harjoittelemista.
Mahtavaa soittamista!! 5*
this might be the worlds hardest song, you did great bro!!
