    my pup started sleeping 8 hours or more overnight around 16 - 17 weeks. Just have to make sure he has adequate amount of exercise/activities. 10 mins of play time is very effective to tire him if he hasn't had enough active hours during the day. I had him since 9 weeks old and still train him on a daily basis. We started with his meal time initially as he didn't accept any treats. Slowly he liked treats and therefore it's been easy to train. You have to put a lot of time in for supervision, house and outdoor training. Put the effort while they are a pup so when they are an adult they become well behaved and you get to have relaxed time with them

      Hopefully you've figured this out by now, but puppies will be extremely anxious about being left alone at that age. Building up small times alone (of even just 10 seconds at first) with positive association will eventually lead to your puppy being ok with being alone

    My small breed pup is 14 weeks and I've been taking her on 15-20 walks once or twice a day for a few weeks now. Is that wrong? She's got so much energy that she'd be tearing the house down if I didn't. We also play fetch quite a bit but it takes a lot to tire her out.

      I have a 17 week BC and we have done the same for the past couple of weeks. We go to some quiet farm tracks near the house where we know we won't meet too many other dogs or people. I've found that mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise in terms of getting my pup to settle down. Try hiding her favourite toy around the house and then making her look for it. When you're out on your short walks bring a toy and a long line and then throw the toy into some long grass or some scrub. If I do that 4 or 5 times it makes a big difference in terms of how tired he is when we come home.

    But what if you get your dog at 4-5 months? I’m importing a 4,5 months old dog soon, it’s been living with its siblings but will not really have any training at all. It’s a cane corso puppy. Will it arrive to me in the teenage phase? I’ll have to puppy train it but I can’t find any video on adopting a dog at an adolescence stage. The dog cant drag me around with the leash, I’m scared of failing with the leash, not sure how to plan the training and how to do it with positive reinforcement. I learned that the alpha theory is debunked and has been for a very long time and I’ve believed the other dog trainer point of view and I’ve been fooled. Now I’m so lost lol

      I don't think you've missed out on much.
      Once vaxxed, they have plenty of time for socializing + will be getting used to you + the new envirment at this point. If they are slightly behind, even quite a bit behind, they are very quick learners + will adapt + adjust.

    At what point/age would the training phase be "complete"? Obviously, you want to keep up your standards always and keep them stimulated mentally throughout their lives, but when are you out of the active training and into the maintenance phase?

      I’d say about 3 years. My sheltie “got it” at around 2.5 years. Granted, i didn’t get her until she was over a year old, but she had no prior training. In most breeds it’s about 3 years when they really mature.

      Teach your pup "watch me" (with finger up by your eyes to guide their attention). Treat quickly as they make eye contact. Get this to a solid command. Then if they encounter other dogs, "watch me", keep moving past, quick treat + "good dog" praise. I had this problem, it worked. Eventually they never reacted to a dog they originally hated, which we saw every morning. They immediately made eye contact with me when we saw him heading towards us. I praised + gave them the treat just as we were passing. Magic.

    • @lizehhh
      @lizehhh 3 года назад +3

      That's because it works. You can break the treats down into tiny pieces, use kibble as well and adjust the amount of kibble you give during normal feeding times. Overfeeding doesn't have to be an issue.

      They often use their meals to train. If you continue watching their training videos you will see the steps to get to the point where you don’t treat as often if at all. They put emphasis on the “yes” as the indicator to the dog that they are making the right decision. Then the reward could be a pet or a toy rather than a treat. It’s a process. Puppies need a lot of motivation which is why the treats are so effective. The treats are not forever.

    • @Tipperary757
      @Tipperary757 2 года назад

      Maybe you need to watch more videos. They even say you're not treating forever. Use kibble. So negative.
