    Puppy training can feel like a roller coaster some days. Especially if you're dealing with some of the common issues like puppy biting, trying to stop your puppy from jumping up, and puppy chewing! There is a very simple, inexpensive tool that you should be using in your puppy training that can transform your training process: ruclips.net/video/3h3d7LtFVDQ/видео.html

    I have a little land shark. A 4 month aussie. She is really good with training and listening... when I have treats. We have a bunch of toys and chews, but she doesn't care for any of them... she prefers playing with my children's toys more. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I used to have a chocolate lab (he passed away last year) and I feel like he was so different and calm in comparison to our new puppy, he never bit us once. This one jumps on people, especially my children when she gets excited. She bites and chews on EVERYTHING. We love her, and try to work on training several times a day, but I am afraid of her being so wild for months to come. We do keep her on a house line which I try to step on to keep her from jumping, but then she'll rapidly paw at people, usually scratching them in her excitement.

      Don't usually reply to these comments but I also got an Aussie recently, 3 months old. My advice to you is consistency and patience. It may take a week or more to teach them to stop doing a bad behavior, if it has been like 3 weeks and it's still happening, try other methods?
      The first week we had him, he tried to chew furniture and pillows. I supervised him 24/7 so as soon as the behavior started, I would say his name or make a sound to get his attention, make eye contact, and calmly say "no." Sometimes he stops, sometimes not. If not, calmly take the object away (if it's an object) repeating "no" once, and immediately replacing the object with a doggie toy. Your puppy may only show interest in getting the object back, so put it behind your back, use an excited voice and swing the toy around them to really make it look exciting. If they start to chew or play with the toy, strong praise/pets/treat and continue playing for a minute or two. Like gentle tug of war, just be careful because their teeth are sensitive as puppies so you don't want to pull the toy with much force.
      Also, continue with trial and error with different kinds of toys. I got to learn that my puppy loves squeaky toys, so if he starts chewing on something, gentle correction and introduce the fun toy. It can take weeks because puppies generally have more excitement and all that jazz. And each puppy is different too so some other training methods might be more effective, but this way personally worked for me and since we have the same breed, might work for you too.
      As for the jumping, I heard that it is effective to ignore them and walk into their space (not forceful or fast) so they back off, then going off to do something else. When they do that they want attention, so by ignoring it, they learn they won't get attention that way. Telling them no or whatever in that situation constitutes as attention even if it is negative, so the behavior continues. Laughing or running/walking backwards looks like you're playing with them so you gotta have no reaction or eye contact and go about your business.
      Aussies are naturally smart and breed to follow commands and work alongside their owners because they're working dogs. They need at least 60 minutes a day (maybe more) of stimulating exercise mentally and physically, so if your puppy isn't getting enough exercise, that could also be a reason for the crazy behavior. Playtime is so important.
      Not even sure if you will read this but if you were looking for advice I really hope this helps. I watched so many videos myself and commented stuff similar to what you did, and obsessed over training that I forgot that it takes time for them to learn, especially puppies. Consistency is the key in all this, plus building a good relationship with the puppy. Good luck to you and your puppy, I have no doubt that with training and exercise they will grow up to be a calmer dog.

      My aussiedoodle is an absolute nut who is so full of sass and used to constantly bite. We dog sit our friend’s full grown aussiedoodle and have been reassured that with time, they mellow out. With persistent training and patience (and definitely after getting fixed), your pup will mellow out, too!

    Appreciate how the training session is taught as fun and not a chore. Question: would you typically do a 15 minute session with a young puppy Popcorn's age?

    • @McCannDogs
      @McCannDogs  2 года назад +7

      Good question, Nicole! At this age, the training sessions should be short and sweet. I'll share a quick video that talks about 5 "wins" you should aim to get every morning with your pup. This is a great example of the length of training sessions. Here is that video: ruclips.net/video/R5lDFn6vMyo/видео.html

    That is really good lesson and we r trying to teach our Shih Tzu how to sit but the only thing that no RUclips videos tell us is what are the treats we should use, everyone says use treat and change treat but what r those treats? and what does it contain? Some of your videos it mentions using cheese as treat, but what kind of cheese because I only know cheddar cheese for burgers 😅
    Note that the front teeth is not yet fully grown and the solid food is not an option
    We live in arabic country (Oman) and it is not easy nor cheap to get pet things like u get in Europe and USA so you have to be specific what to use
    The other thing, we have the puppy for a month now, and she is almost 70 days old (born 12th sept) and we r having difficulty to potty train her as she uses the toilet only when we keep her in bed (we r using our old baby crib) but when she is with us in family hall she tend to ignore the toilet and pee and poop in certain places and she eats some of the poop.
    We tried to use the potty training drops but never worked (cost us $15).
    We didn't train her to use the crate but when we keep her there she shouts and crys for a long time and doesn't get quite and eventually poops and pees while shouting sometimes so we started to get confused when she needs to use the toilet and when is she just doesn't want to sit in it
    Hope we get a complete video to take us through this
    We know it takes 3 to 6 months to potty train them but we want to be sure we r following the right procedures from now so we dont reach to a point that it is too late
    Also we have a small outdoor area within the villa (6 x 10 meters) and it has artificial grass where the kids play with her these days since it cool weather so the puppy uses the area as toilet so I hope this doesn't spoils the potty training (because it gets up to 50 degrees Celsius in summer)

      I'm sorry i can't help since i'm also having trouble potty training my puppy, but how is it going ? Did it get better and if yes how did you do it ??
      Also for your question about treats anything can be a treat, a bit of chicken or meat or fish, kibble, dog food etc...
      The cheese they're talking about is white cheese, for example those triangle ones ? They can lick it and they usually enjoy them

    How long should the training sessions typically be?

    • @spearbun
      @spearbun 2 года назад

      For very young puppies (8-10 weeks) I find 5 minute training sessions multiple times a day are best. If you do very short sessions (5 mins) 5 times a day (say: breakfast, play, lunch, play, dinner) you’ll net 25 minutes….. which rapidly becomes hours over the week.
      Even with adult dogs I don’t like going much over 20 minutes when I’m teaching new things. It’s less about duration and more about consistency and quality.
      If you can capture amazing successes within 5mins, you both walk away feeling positive and accomplished without making the lesson feel like a chore!
      Obviously I’m not with McCann Dogs, but I often use their methods, and I have trained a few puppies in my time. :) Take what I say not as gospel, but an educated suggestion.

Lunges snarles, jumping and biting at my arm and hand. At 12weeks old Im not sure how to deal with this behaviour at all.
