We all knew Neil was a great guy, now we know he was "ego free " that makes him even greater. All this and the most phenomenal drummer around.

This is really cool. I not only like the lyrical words in Rush's songs, I love the way Geddy sings them, & have always treasured Rush in my songs library.

First time I saw Rush I got to stand right next to Howard Ungerlieder as he ran the sound board, on a general admission ticket. We were just 2 dorky teenagers wanting in on Rush's action. That's how loose things were back in the day. You could get as close as you wanted to the talent, and nobody freaked, and tickets were cheap. Those were the days!

My first Rush concert was, Power Windows Jan 6, 1986 Houston Texas - The Summit. I was 14 and my father ran the spotlight on Geddy that night. I still have his backstage pass to this day. RUSH has been the soundtrack to my life.

We were 17. My friends step dad let us borrow his sweet ride which was a newer Buick at the time (even had the digital speedometer) which was unusual back then as well as a great sound system for the cassettes for which we had em all. We got some supplies and headed to our motel which was pretty close to the venue on the main drag. It was one of my greatest memories. I remember it snowed and there was a big wreck out in the street with multiple cars (rear enders) while we kicked back and watched it all unfold from our room. It was our first true freedom as teenagers.

    Defeat the kingly foe
A wondrous dream came into being
    Tame the trackless waste
    No virgin land left chaste
All shining eyes but never seeing
    Beneath the noble bird
    Between the proudest words
    Behind the beauty, cracks appear
    Once with heads held high
They sang out to the sky
Why do their shadows bow in fear
    Watch the cities rise
    Another ship arrives
Earth’s melting pot, and ever growing
    Fantastic dreams come true
    Inventing something new
The greatest minds, but never knowing
    The guns replace the plow
    Facades are tarnished now
    The principles have been betrayed

Hope that history’s debt won’t be repaid"

THIS is pure illustration why they worked so well and so long together!! My first time seeing RUSH was Perminant Waves tour and I NEVER missed a tour ever since--ever. Some tours I saw more than once. For example, I saw Presto tour twice, once at Boston Garden, and the same tour Providence Civic Center. It's so NOT surprising to hear Neil had a non-ego collaborative nature. RIP professor. This band was the most important band as a kid and teen growing up! and literally THE reason I ever picked up a bass, played it, and to the point of playing professionally.

The other big thing, probably the biggest thing, is that they split all the money evenly. People are always cool until money gets distributed. This kept one huge potential pitfall from ever becoming a reality.

@@cvn6555 Yes, excellent point. I saw that in an interview once, and yet an other amazing thing they did to keep things amicable, peaceful, unselfish, etc, etc. So many musicians (and humans) miss this kind of stuff.

My first Rush show was May 24, 1997 at the Starplex Amphitheater in Dallas, Texas. The version of "The Trees" on Different Stages was recorded at that show. I remember the visuals during "The Trees" being particularly interesting, and naively hoping deep down and against all odds that they would play "Lakeside Park," as it happened to be the 24th of May.
