- Fire Emblem is cool and all, but it doesn't have to be the only cool Fantasy Strategy Game out there, Unicorn Overlord has come, giving us something familiar with a very unique twist, one you won't regret in playing

Remember everyone. The only people who hate fire emblem more than anyone else is a fire emblem fan. It's law
So true, I hate Fire Emblem (It's one of my favorite franchises and I have over 30 videos about it)
It's an abusive relationship where it's hard to tell who's abusing who.
That's because they give you a masterpiece like Awakening or Three Houses and right after they cringe you to death with If or Engage.
This is why I'm actually a Langrisser fan
Lie, smash fans hate it more
I remember thinking when I was playing 13 Sentinels "Man, imagine a Fire Emblem game with Vanillaware's art direction"
I love it when my dumb ideas become real, this game is peak.
Thank you for putting this thought into the universe ❤
Quick, think "Man, I hope Unicorn Overlord gets a sequel" you have a power, use it well
I just miss the art direction that came with 2D. It’s possible to achieve it with 3D but the fire emblem teams aren’t equipped enough with that kind of staff.
The artstyle and animation alone are spectacular, can't wait for the Unicorn Overlord x Pizza Tower crossover DLC
More FE fans should play Ogre Battle.
Maybe the real Unicorn Overlord (2024) is the friends we made along the way
Thanks for covering this, it's on my wish list
Absolutely loved the demo, I knew within the first 10 seconds of the first Nintendo Direct trailer that this was a Vanillaware game. It's somewhat disappointing the support conversations and difficulty can be a bit meh, but holy crap does this game look absolutely gorgeous and runs flawlessly at 60 FPS on a console that is on its deathbed.
Vanillaware values their independence and they will absolutely go over the top to make the best product they possibly can. They ran out of money multiple times, and one of the founders took a pretty huge loan in the past so they could continue developing Odin Sphere.
Gotta respect the absolute love an dedication they pour in each project
This game legitimately just feels like a super clean well made ps2 game (as is VW MO), the fact its one of the most strikingly visual and clean games this year as well despite only being a few gb puts alot of over games and devs to shame as well with their 150 gb + cinematic experiences.
fuck its even only 60 usd as opposed to 70 too.
Alright, I'll give this a try now...
The Game Shelf, I subscribed because your videos are super cool!
Aw thank you so much dude I genuinely appreciate that! Hope you have an amazing day
Glad you enjoyed this game! It was so fun I already put in over 100 hours into my first play through. It was great start to finish!
I'm on my 2nd playthrough and it's so damn good, genuinely fantastic game
Is this game better than FE 3H? I haven't played any tactical game since FF tactics
Ok but you saying that in Expert mode you only get 10 item uses per battle made me realize that I had done my entire play through on Expert mode and I didn’t even notice like I swore I chose Tactial but I think that may have just been for the demo because I started a new save file at one point after playing the demo, but like I had 10 item uses throughout the whole game and I just checked my settings and it says expert. I think that says something about the difficulty of the game that I while challenged i never would have considered that I was playing expert at all lmao, game was so fun but at times super easy if you were making the best of your units. Thank you for making this video!!
Oh actually I read something similar online, apparently when the game released they added a patch that added one more difficulty mode, I'm pretty sure that in the demo I chose Normal mode in the main game I had Tactical mode by default
Thanks a lot for the comments btw, really appreciate it
Played the Demo and have not been able to think of anything else ever since. Amazing game
This is Ogre Battle on steroids. More people should give a try Ogre Battle 64 and the Tactics Ogre in general, specially those who like darker stories.
Ogre Battle is BACK
Not gonna lie, I never heard of that game before but now that I look at it it seems very interesting
I think Fire Emblem took a dive after Awakening. Overlord is much better than FE atm
damn vanilla ware really embodies the giving it all for a single game I Gotta say
They're so based!
10 YEARS IN THE JOINT SPOTTED AT 1:53
Where are the unicorns? 🤨
Actually everywhere lol, there's architecture all the time showing them
@@TheGameShelf where are the real unicorns? 🤨
We have furros in unicorn, so yess it's better than fire emblem
TO BE FAIR, the Tellius games exist but yeah they cool
No! You can't end friendship with Fire Emblem! You are the 13th Emblem, the Fire Emblem! The channel of all Fire Emblem! Noooooooo!
first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1111
This is more of if you ever played Ogre Battle 64 you would love Unicorn Overlord since they share gameplay styles ( more so than Fire Emblem), and there's also if you didn't like the localization in Fire Emblem well you are going dislike playing Overlord with the original Japanese audio cause jeez those dubtitles.
Never played Fire Emblem but I love Unicorn Overlord
I’ll check this game out
You actually developed good taste for once!!!
This is already up for game of the year in my opinion.
hope that this makes you wanna play more vanillaware games, they all go insanely hard.
I'll confess, I've owned 13 Sentinels for over a year on the PS4, but around that era I had played both Great Ace Attorney and VA-11 HALL-A so I put it on hold
Now that I moved to Canada I don't have the game with me
@@TheGameShelf ah yeah that's unfortunate, hopefully you can get to it eventually. if you have a ps3-5 i'd reccomend trying out dragon's crown, preferably with a friend. very good beat em up with rpg elements.
@@MarsYaco oh I actually owned Dragons Crown on PS3, I even mention that in the video
Great game and I managed to play it with other 3 friends
We never beat it but we still loved it a lot
Sounds like you need to go play some Ogre Battle MotBQ, and Ogre Battle 64.
Every japanese strategy game is like Fire Emblem for these youtubers lmao. This is game is 100% Ogre Battle.
First
No, engage didn’t disappointed me.
Do you want debug mode in pizza tower, we’ll here’s how. First go to steam and click the gear, then properties, then go to general, then in launch options put “-debug” (only put -debug) then launch the game, then press f5 and there you go, debug mode in pizza tower (only works with steam) (please make a vid about this but if you don’t then ok)
FE Engage
I liked it
The gameplay was better than FE three houses in my opinion
The story was just normal but the gameplay was better I think
And yeah
I just finnished UO
Soooo goood
😂
I'm a bit sad that a 15 min video about a video game took 5 mins to get to the gameplay.
That's understandable, but as I said there, characters in these sort of games tend to matter a lot to me and are still part of the full experience alongside the gameplay
@@TheGameShelf Characters are definitely vital to SRPGs but I think that gameplay should have a higher priority.
