Beating Fire Emblem Fates as the Story Intends (Pacifist)

- In This Video, I Attempt to Beat Fire Emblem Fates Conquest on the Hardest Difficulty While Defeating The Least Units Possible. This Challenge Run Plays Out Similar to What Happens in the Story, Which I Found Quite Funny. This Time Around, Green Units Don't Count Towards The Total Units Killed, and That Certainly Made This Run More Interesting, as on Some Maps I Had to Fight Powerful Bosses With AWFUL Green Units.
I did a Similar Run To This Here: • Can You Beat Fire Embl...
I Also Did This Challenge for Revelation Here: • Pacifist FE Fates Reve...
I hope you enjoyed watching. If you liked the video it would be great if you Subscribed and shared with a friend.
Ironic how birthright has a lot less of those “we didn’t kill anyone!” Lines at the end of maps
Because every map is a rout map basically lol. That's why Birthright is so based. Just run in, kill, refuse to elaborate, and leave
Not that ironic. Birthright is already much more justified than Conquest, that line is just tacked on in Conquest to explain how Corrin's not THAT evil, even though they decided to side with the aggressors
@@alexread6767 Actually, no. He literally went back to Nohr for twofold reasons: to try to protect the family he actually _remembers_ growing up with, and to try to break the cycle internally. Not to mention it's not like Hoshido is exactly innocent in this regard when it came to holding a child hostage or Ryoma "conveniently" ignoring how Nohr was starving and looking for resources and played along like he didn't know. Not saying Nohr isn't in the wrong, but that's the point. You're putting aside what's "right" to protect who's closest to you in that moment. I don't think anyone would exactly have any dilemma in that regard, because as much as the Hoshidans are your "blood siblings," not only do they lie to you about that... they also basically cause a lot of collateral in the name of that ideal.
Problem is, Fates' story is already extremely scuffed as is, especially when considering how:
1) Each route is a game in itself, originally had to buy them individually
2) Only Conquest and Birthright have physical copies
3) Revelation is DLC
4) Lore is scattered through small asides and supports
5) Supports vary depending on which game you get and which characters you support
6) Players can only unlock supports if they use characters together in battle (ergo viability in battle can play a BIG part in that)
7) There's no ready indication which have lore or which are mostly humor or character skits
9) ERGO if someone does not like a character for their initial personality or battle viability and any supports unlocked don't help dissuade that? That person often will just not even try to see if there's more because as far as they are concerned that's all the character is and will be
9) Characters can and will die not only through the player's fault but the story
10) The stories layers become wayyy more apparent reading through All The Routes and seeing how things interconnect - that is discouraged with the whole release plan AND the routes themselves being obtuse and having a particular order (implicitly Birthright, Conquest, Revelations, Heirs of Fate + Before Awakening DLCs)
11) The routes vary in length and a player often NEEDS the plot spelled out to understand what plot points matter or why certain design decisions were made and it's not "Inherently bad writing"
12) This also includes Supports, Paralogues, the 2nd Gen, and DLCs; this is a LOT
13) Explanations don't always help because not everyone deep reads. I know somebody who refused to do any S-Supports because the Deeprealms creeped her out, another who claimed Rhajat's only point was stalking, but also didn't do her parents' supports OR UNLOCK ANY OTHER 2ND GEN CHARACTERS TO GET MORE ABOUT HER VIA SUPPORTS
I think the reason why FE Fates has the negative reputation it does despite fundamentally having _so much to say_ is because Fates as a story is fundamentally hostile to its own format. I've realized that upon replaying Heirs of Fates and actually slowing down to sound the narrative out of my head; moments that make _perfect_ sense on reflection (like Soleil and Ophelia's warp stones, which were actually to be called in when they wanted to go back to Ylisse) seeming like an asspull out of nowhere, despite making objective _sense_ in the scheme of things. This extends as far as FE Fates's other plot devices like the crystal ball that reveals Garon's true form, or it glancing over a LOT of important details that only really fall into place after a deeper read (part of the reason why the story seems black and white is that it's part of why it's so _wrong_ to begin with; the fact that _any_ of this is like this when these are people's lives being played with is a sign something has gone _horribly_ wrong). Part of why it fascinated me so much is because I was always able to infer what it was _trying_ to say, but FE Fates shows such hostility to its own format as an FE narrative that it's simply just not going to click with most people, which is not aided by the sheer cacophony of other issues, as listed above. Granted, that's only my take on the matter as somebody with over 700 hours to show for this game, so what do I know. lol
@@TheAxeLord47911 okay I read "warp stones" so I think I'm just gonna play Heirs of Fate
@@alexread6767 Good idea. It's actually rather fascinating where it was even touched up on, lol. Tell me when you do!
Masterful gameplay and it's surprising how much less cringe the cutscenes feel when you know Corrin ACTUALLY went through intense suffering and mass resetting to not kill anyone
7:24 that is the face of a man who has played this level too many times. 😁
Crazy that you would count the Xander defeat as a kill when it's A.) Forced, and B.) Stated to be just a friendly duel with no casualties lol
He kind of has to do it that way. There's several maps where you are randomly stated to have killed no one with no gameplay difference and he wanted to challenge himself there also, so there wouldn't be a clear rule of he didn't do it this way
that's what the story says not the gameplay
True. I wonder what the count would be like if you took into account places where you didnt kill them in story and stuff. Like Kaze and Rinkah in the prologue.
@@DandDgamer There is no indication that the units fading away means death, the fact that xander canonically loses this fight, his sprite fades away and lives combined with the fact that the same thing happens if you pick an easier difficulty is evidence enough that it just means defeat
@@DandDgamercounterpoint, how many other maps explicitly state that they're just a practice spar. It's one thing for the game to asspull Corrin not killing in life or death scenarios. It's another for a situation with 0 risk of death to be somehow labelled a kill. Xander should've been special cases
I have played Fates a LOT and i can say getting Hans to stay alive to kill the boss is quite an achivement
I still can’t get over the story being totally okay with genociding the entire kitsune clan. They could’ve just walked away but nah that was the one time corrin allowed brutal murder 😭
They aren't Human. Corrin saves HUMAN not FACELESS lives. So clearly, the weird pranksters are on that list with the Faceless.
@@airraid1266prank ‘em, John!
@@airraid1266 Faceless are effectively zombies created with dark magic, they have no personality or will, or life.
The kitsune clan being murdered is justified by Kaden saying they won't let the humans leave alive since they know where they are.. but it's easy to argue that Corrin's been able to bs their way out of murder and the story bending over backwards, sideways, upside-down, all short of changing gravity itself to justify every possible way of Corrin NOT murdering a single person on the field in far less likely circumstances.
TLDR: Faceless are dark magic zombies, Kitsune murder is whatever anti-plot armor is

The "green unit kills don't count" rule definitely made this run a lot more interesting, I like it!
“Keaton is gone now. We cannot recruit him. He canonically got summoned to Fire Emblem Heroes or something.”
This statement made me laugh more than it should have. 😄
I'm sad you didn't mention that Saizo specifically has a line when he kills Kotaro himselft. It's such a nice, small detail in that chapter
So the female ninja have any quotes when she beats him?
@@ladyriethegoldendelmo5441kagero? don't you get her after beating that map?
@@icantthinkofaname6397 nope, she's not unlockable in the conquest route.
@@ladyriethegoldendelmo5441Kagero is a No-Factor for that chapter, only Saizo has a real shot IF you escort him properly. Otherwise it's a Nohrian Army carry.
It's also I think the only time the series ever does this, both during the map or in the cutscene after. I can't think of a single example of a character having a line depending on if they killed a boss.
I think that Dimitri does not approve of this
Neither would Seteth. After all, he commits a war crime by declaring no quarter will be given.
Endgame Dimitri would love this though
Three hopes too. Well at least he wouldn’t hate it. Im not sure if hed love it though
the -97 skill debuff 😭😭 great + entertaining playthrough!
Insert fe6 hit rate joke
Slightly easier challenge might be not killing anyone in Thracia 776, thanks to the capture mechanic I think it might be possible to beat the game only killing a few bosses with 20 build.
While Leif doesn't really comment on not killing anyone, Eyvel tells him to capture all the units cause imperial soldiers were conscripted and don't deserve to die so i think it fits!
You can capture most units but not mounted units. There are things like sleep and such to work with, but you have a small amount of thise. So while hypothetically possible it could be a massive pain in the ass.
@@vocalcalibration8033 don't forget there are sleep swords, there aren't very many mounted bosses in the game. Maps like reindhearts can be warp skipped, though capturing him will be a struggle.
I think it'd still be fun though, taking the capturing mechanics to its limits! For generic mounted units I'd suggest have unarmed mounted units of your own to bait them while Leif gets carried to the boss in maps without warp.
@@thabluetails Oh for sure it does sound fun. With quite a bit of work, and using the games busted systems, you could probably keep the kill count comfortably in the double digits.
Counterpoint: Thracia lets you get civilian units killed by Rescue-dropping them in front of red units. Excelblem did that in Xavier's map as revenge for that shitshow recruitment.
@@maltheopia tbf you don't have to recruit everyone in the run, we can't kill red units nobody said anything about not letting green units die.
Unless you want to be extra masochistic.
You see what happened to Keaton was that he learned Corrins views on furries and left in disgust
What? Still surprised there was a mass furry slaughter
Saizo's Caltrops Cleaning Service
Pretty interesting and thematic. May want to separate your in-game kills though into how many are “normal” kills vs characters who are defeated but can’t fall here, faceless, or kitsune, so we can see how many people Corrin has to kill that he actually cares about.
counted this while watching. excluding green units' kills, monsters, recurring characters, and ppl who survive defeat in combat (like Ch. 26 Iago as opposed to Ch. 26 Hans), the kill count is:
+04 (04 total) in chapter 2 (kaze & rinkah's escort)
+36 (40) in chapter 13 (Cheve)
+02 (42) in chapter 18 (two southern generals; Leo kills Zola outside of Corrin's command, as he does Iago later)
+01 (43) in chapter 23 (hinoka's pairup oni chieftain)
so the real total is 43 (if i didn't miscount)
the excelblem strats to level up azura and the biblical accuracy on the final map were my favorite parts. good video! and good choice of soundtracks
i think the point is that everyone that corrin's army took out of combat was injured to the point of being taken out of commission rather than being outright killed, but they could've done a better job at implying that ingame. kinda like echoes having characters that retreat return to an exhausted-looking standing position
As a resident Dirty Fates Simp™, I have to admit... are you insane? There's no way you would do this challenge unless you were insane, and I mean that in the most positive way possible. You mad, mad, madlad.
Great work! Not much for me to add in that regards, though I do have a lore correction: there's a lot of references in the story to the fact that most of the chapters without any casualties are the minority and only possible due to Corrin pulling it off during skirmishes or other such breakaway events... and his attempts to be the Camus in his own story are thwarted a lot. I think it'd be a lot more fitting to note the amount of chapters where casualties actually happen. Ch. 8, 11 and 20 are the only ones that end with negligible fatalities. Ch. 13 and 22 _try_ to be non-lethal but are completely derailed. Everything else is free-for-all, when you take individual observations.

Point is, FE Fates fascinates me as much as it does because it fundamentally has a _brilliant_ story underneath the hood, but it's such a fundamental failure in terms of actually trying to communicate that narrative properly. It's why it's the polar opposite for me versus, say, Danganronpa; one is a total raucous mess that genuinely infers what it's saying for deeper layers, the other is superficially well-executed but fundamentally has nothing worth talking about (you think Fates's anime cheese is bad? Look up "Kotoko Danganronpa" on RUclips. Curse my name later, I've suffered that garbage series for four years and all I got was this stupid mental scar from stalking). And as much as Fates's story is memed upon, well... let's just say there's a reason Tumblr STILL talks about the game and AO3 has almost 10K fanfics for the continuity total. There wouldn't be something worth discussing if there wasn't something inherently interesting under the hood.
tbh I would've let Niles's capture be allowed since it very explicitly is just capturing and not killing enemies
"If you've experienced the amazing story of fire emblem fates"
Phew props for being able to say that with a straight face
even if they don't get as many views as other nintendo franchises unfortunately, please keep doing more FE challenge videos, they're REALLY fun to watch
I can really see the slight descent into madness towards the end and I appreciate how it parallels the themes of the plot of Fire Emblem Fates. Truly a plot that changes your life.
You see what happened to Keaton was that he learned Corrins views on furries and left in disgust
I was laughing my ass off at CH17 thanks to Saizo's obsession with disarming the caltrops.
Something to note about reclassing in Fates. Units will learn the previous class skills if they join ahead of when they would normally level up to get the skill. (Ex: if Corrin reclassed to Wyvern at level 15, level 16 they would get Str+2, level 17 they would get Lunge)
I'm happy im not the only one to recall that, I had a save file I made Corrin a Skill shop for any castle visitors, and getting him every skill in the game...from level 16 unpromoted he got a skill every level up, and those I couldnt acquire I got off of other players Corrins, worst comes to worst by thrashing them because Omega Yato plus whatever Skills I wanted, Dual Guard+, Sol/Aether, Swordfaire Replicate Hero Corrin (with a free slot for whichever you like) is just....Psychotic vs regular Player Units
Honestly my only complaint is that you didn't consider Niles using his Capture ability as non-kills, since those enemies are expressly sent to your Castle Prison, meaning they're taken *Alive*, even if their appearance on the map is diminished.
The premise of the video made me think this would be a huge factor; it's extremely weird that the mechanic is not even mentioned!
There are some kills that can be removed if you view it from another point
1. All named characters that canonically survives the encounter should count, like Xander in chapter 1
2. Faceless shouldn’t count cus people in lore don’t have any problems with killing them
3. All kills in prologue don’t count cus it’s just a dream
Excellent video. You might have the opportunity for a little more wiggle room if you permit yourself to use "Capture" - you could save 2 kills per map, which for some boss maps means no kill at all, plus it's technically how you "recruit" those characters [Nichol, Candace]
Somehow, baiting an enemy army into fighting an unaffiliate (a green unit) seems crueler than just killing them straight up.
The fact that you cleared this on Lunatic is insane! Awesome video and strats!
Lunatic? No f^cking way
@@leargamma4912It do be fUcking lumatic, look at the maps and the description
Great video, im about a fifth of the way through and i would say my biggest suggestion would be to have some sort of aesthetic graphic instead of the block of purple. I think it would be a nice place for either information (such as what excelblem does with his casualties list) or just something pretty to look at when your eyes wander
personally wouldn't have counted fights against named characters where they show up alive in the post-battle cutscene just because it seems like even in a conventional lethal character-type, those named characters would have survived anyway.
Grunts or where named characters have a dying scene in or after the stage though? they dead as fuck
Fates is a hot mess but god damn it it's MY hot mess
Great video, absolutely hilarious and entertaining, found myself laughing out loud multiple times throughout. I also learnt a lot about the game I didn't know!
I feel like fe6 might be a nightmare for this challenge because of all the seize objectives... so do it.
I think 100% pacifist Thracia might be possible, with a couple bosses being exceptions
39:22 that's correct - Kinshis are in the same AI "group" as 2 Spear Masters and Great Master near them and the reason they don't attack is because their general AI behavior is telling them to "do nothing", while their movement behavior is telling them to only move if enemy is actively in combat with other units within the group, which does indeed means that they never act unless you get in range of Spear Masters/Great Master who's AI is set to attack enemies in range, which then prompts Kinshis to move in and reinforce them. At least to my understanding.
Conquest's AI is very convoluted at times.
While Hoshido had more kills from that one map alone due to being a Rout, Nohr wasn't immaculate either. Hence "Revelation" was the better choice than "Conquest"
The wall groaning at 15:11 took me so off-guard jdbdjdnskskdn😂😂
No freaking way you beat Lunatic chapter 10 without killing any enemies. Insane. Hats off
2 seconds in and I already hear sarcasm. Great job 😂❤
Units you defeat that do not die (Xander in the training fight, Kaze and Rinkah, etc) should not be counted towards Units Killed. They're not dead
Opening up the video with Flora burning herself to death sent me 😭😭😭
This was a really fun challenge to watch. Congrats it seems like it was very time consuming but I think it was worth it.
This was insane and impressive! I would not have the sanity to do this myself, especially on Lunatic! (Even in general I’ve not played many of the games through on the hardest difficulty though)
It was a very fun watch and I enjoyed the extra tidbit of Ryoma defeating the enemies “quickly” in chapter 5.
wow this is the worst way to play fire emblem ive ever seen, i love it
i hope they rerelease or remake this game soon, my 3DS broke and I miss those Fire Emblem games
I dont have one at all. Id like to play it a lot though. Ryoma is my second favorite person in fire emblem. My favorite it diamant. I was very glad when i figured out ryoma is in warriors. So id like that too
Feel a bit odd to count that xander duel tho I assume its based on units than trying to mimic the story.
The weapons seem to have different sprites, is this possible to do on the 3ds version of the game or only on an emulator?
I'm glad that you find this fun bc this looks as infuriating as it is rewarding. This is legit really insane, nice work!
Hype man! I did a similar challenge in 3H, but didn't think it would be very possible in Fates. I'm interested to see how low you manage to get this score!!
This is awesome
30:03 Interesting chose of music.
This was crazy! You did a really good job not only in playing and strategizing, but the editing kept me engaged (like the Fire Emblem Engage game) the whole way through!
Chapter 9 fucking destroyed me; I thought using Hans in Branches of Fate, but dear Christ.
Having to use NYX unironically 🤢
This was a really good video!
Amazing run! I love how creative you were to "control" the green units.
Dude this is fucking amazing! Great vid
This is great but I honestly think you should’ve forgiven yourself the likes of the Xander kill where they canonically do not die (on screen)
I'd love to see this done for Revelation and Birthright as well.
You'd think so. But Corrin just injures them to the point they can't fight anymore. What? You think that's not possible? In a world with magic and dragons?
Bro really went and made Corrin’s bday 9/11
For a pacifist run
This is incredible, well done! My run was all about "How to prevent the green units from stealing my sweet exp" and yours was the total opposite. Very interesting to see and soooooo very well played !!!
Kinda sucks that you count the Invaders and the Faceless into the Unit's Killed since they aren't humans. Points for adding Super Paper Mario music!
Knocking someone out with a sword or magic isn't really lethal if you don't aim for vitals, plus the geneva conventions say you have to let those who surrender surrender and take them prisoner, you legally can't kill them all, especially once they're unconscious or unable to keep fighting
Maybe fire emblem 6 would be interesting with this challenge ? Since all maps only require 1 ennemy to die
What's the music at around like 42:30 from?
Edit: the one at 48:20 too?

If you gave everyone Counter and Counterspell and no weapons, you could reduce kills even more. After all, it’s not your fault - you’re unarmed.
Dude, like, you have potential, but, it looks like you have to much excelblem influence, try to be more of yourself, you know what i mean?
Can you source the mod/settings for your emulator that let you get HD graphics?

You should do a pacifist run of FE3H with the added caveat that anytime you defeat an enemy unit you have to beat them with an unarmed strike
I genuinely haven't laughed this hard after reading the -97 skill debuffs being applied in the Fire Emblem Fates Evil Room lmfao
Great video :) Keep it up.
I still can’t believe you managed to do chapter ten on lunatic without killing anyone 😢

This was an awesome watch!
Why did you count faceless as kills they r just dead husks of things risen from dark mages
Awesome! Crazy strats in here, I never realized the cover was the answer all along
8:58 Funnily enough, on my Brother's first ever time playing Fates, on his first ever attempt of this map, Ryoma killed the boss. I'd never seen it happen before lmao
There should be a custom animation that shows that you didn't kill them
9:10
I've actually had Ryuma kill the boss once, but I never found out what happens after because I went "I want to kill the boss!!"😂
Not recruiting Nyx as a strat? lmao
Ok but consider the following: the number could go way lower by capturing enemies, especially useful bosses
That chapter 9 clear was impressive
-97 skill? Average conquest lunatic.
If they don't die in the story, do we still count their death in? Lol
ive played conquest a million times... videos like this showing me there's still stuff i havent seen in it is awesome
Neat!
If you allowed to kill the monster/machines, it would be easier, ut is even more impressive leaving the alive
I'm gonna derail the topic and mention that FemCorrin's "fuck me" eyes are something special.
holy shit its bravely second music
Chapter 10 had so many enemies surrounding you it looked like it borrowed its enemy placements from fe4
idk how i imssed this, but i am glad i found this. weird i found while checking if a fixed growth mod existed though XD
Aka manipulating all and anyone who has the misfortune to come across the main cast into murdering their enemies
22:57 This is logical. Every time I stand next to a pot, I feel my defense increase.....
What mod do you use for the aesthetics of the game? 😊
Woah the quality while emulating on PC is so much better than on 3DS
I audibly screamed in pain every time I heard you pronounce gentilhomme as "gentle home"
I do want to see what the kill count would be in Birthright and Revelations...
what is the music in the beginning around 1:40
Doing this on lunatic? are you insane?
