Hey Josh I just wanted to let you know that you change lives. I never REALLY knew I wanted to fly until I started watching your videos a few years back. I am 9 hours in to getting my ppl and I honestly couldn't be more excited to get those 1500 hours to fly commercial. I've never really been this happy in my life and I can't help but give you a lot of the credit. Thanks again man, you do fantastic work.:)
What a nice compliment to Josh . I wish you the best learning to fly & getting your PPL . Keep up the good work . Hope you succeed in getting 1500 hours to fly commercial .
I owned N39MG (1979 M20K turbo 231) from 1995 till 2010. We put 2000 hours on it. Here are some things we learned: - always full rich in the climb, fuel is the cheapest thing you’ll put in it - flew it at 65% power, leaned to about 1550 degrees on the turbo inlet temp, never lean of peak. We got over 2000 hours on our factory REMAN. - managed the fuel burn, take off on left tank, after 1 hour switch to right tank, 1 hour on right then back to left tank, burn down to low fuel light comes on at 8 gallons, burn 20 minutes more on left then switch to right for remainder of flight. - we started the turbo cool down in the pattern. We kept the prop speed low until we retarded the throttle. If you spin up the engine while taxing you need to restart the cool down clock. The turbo Mooney is a great with lots of speed and room to stretch out. We routinely made non-stop trips from Danbury CT to Jacksonville FL in 5 hours burning 55 gallons. Enjoy it. Regards, John
Why not just leave it on both fuel selectors? Keeping one on for an hour and then switching to the other seems unnecessary, and adds extra steps that could possibly be forgotten about.
Great video Josh. Great shots skimming along the cloud tops. Even the refuelling shot with the meter ticking over put me into rhythm and mood of the scene. The whole video reminded me of previous adventures and even better ones to come.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS! An owner of several Mooneys, soloed in a Mooney in 9 hours..have all the ratings, but a true MOONIAC! GOOD FOR HIM, EXCELLENT DECISION! 😁🤗😍😎
Your video's are getting way better: great story telling: videography, narration, editing, and, best of all, self portrayal...plus, I'm thinking, "this guy is a pretty great instructor!"
Really good video honestly. Few critiques from a professional pilot. 1. is proper phraseology with regards to communication to ATC. 2. Is checklist usage. If you're going to run a crew based cockpit, then it should be read properly like a crew. 3. on approach teach your students trim for speed and use power for altitude. This is the same for EVERY aircraft, whether a 172 or 747. When you told the student to add power he got high and added airspeed (from trying to correct). Then told him to slow down by pulling power where he then sank below GS. An ILS or any approach can be flown hands free by trimming for airspeed, then managing thrust/power for descent. I have seen this disconnect in teaching students from 172's all the way to the 747.
Fantastic as usual!! When I went from a 172 to my friends '62 M20C, I would spend alot of time practicing slowing her down from cruise to the white arc, very slippery. And lots of practice with the Johnson Bar gear extension/retraction! With the pushrods, she did handle like like Ferrari! I miss her...And FFZ!
Again, excellent. Video and all. You are an excellent instructor. Some instructors sound arrogant and like they are superior to the student. Your voice and pace makes the student feel at ease and not rushed. Whatever you do you'll be a success. With your talent and attitude. Looking forward to your next video.
Also, yay, learned something! When I got my constant speed prop endorsement, I was only taught to cycle the prop three times (if it was cold enough to warrant making sure the oil was flowing) and watch the drop in RPM. Going to add the "check oil leak" - "check RPM" - "check slight OP drop" to my personal procedures :) (In EASA world, a complex aircraft is something different, and we have separate endorsements for things such as a constant speed prop, glass cockpit, retractable landing gear, (turbo) charged engine etc.)
Watching this for the first time, and as you were filming the ramp scene in Dover, I saw my first airplane on the ramp. N10937 was the plane that I owned and learned to fly in. A great memory. Thanks
Gotta love a Mooney. One of my favourite things about the low stance is that you can actually feel the ground effect through the yoke - once you get used to that, never make a 'flat' landing again, even at unfamiliar airports or in unusual lighting/visibility.
Absolutely beautiful mooney!!! What a great choice for a second airplane. Congratulations!! The flight from Delaware was amazing, until the rhime ice. Excellent ADM, along with being calm. Really enjoying your videos, keep them coming. Fly safe!!
Mate, these newer vids are great! I'm a big fan. As a regional pilot who tries to downsize as often as possible, I'm picking up some of your methods and applying them to my recreational flying. Thanks for passing on some great advice to the rest of us. Cheers, Pat.
Delaware Air Park and Brandywine have the same CTAF as my airport. So I hear the Brandywine traffic all the time and every once in a while the Delaware Air Park traffic comes through.
I know this video is a year old, but I just found it. I like how you did not hesitate to change your flight plan to a safer route and intermediate destination. A great emphasis on safety first!
I always wanted a new Mooney someday. When the French company bought Mooney, and sold the rights to the new 301 to Socata, and they designed and had Daher build the Tarbes-Mooney in Tarbes France, or TBM, that is now the Daher TBM 900-930, I wanted one of those. Until I learned that they cost ~$4.0M USD. Now, at 67 I want an old Mooney! LOL 8) Congrats, nice airplane!! --gary
Wants aside, don't let anyone tell you that you need a multimillion dollar new airplane. The older Mooneys fly great, there are plenty that still need pilots to fly 'em, and they're fantastic cross country planes.
I was born and raised in Delaware, and it was nice to see that blue and gold flapping in the breeze. Strange what images of home can do. And what a wise decision to divert to Asheville, the craft brew mecca of planet earth. Cheers from quarantine.
Enjoy your videos, your camera work and editing is awesome....I'm currently a 172 student pilot, learning just listening to our radio communications. Keep up the great work & Safe Flying
Thanks Josh ! Your work - documenting, humor, flying with attention to safety and detail is all so well done and fun and important. Get back to work ! ..... make some more.
My son got me a hat just like that at Walmart, and very proud to wear it. I also love all your videos and wish I could have become a pilot but things happen for a reason. Keep up the good work you do .
Congrats on the new airplane! Mooney is a sweet ride. I had a 66 M20E before my Skylane. Excellent video on icing and alternative destination. Thinking ahead of airplane and conditions.👍
Dude... love this channel. This channel inspired me to go and start my PPL. After 10 years of stalling. Keep it up man. Hope to get it all finished by 2020.
Another excellent production from "Mister" Aviation. Like you, as an old Texan from the central state, I do not like cold. I shivered with you the whole time until you finally reached warmer weather. Nice hat, BTW. Not sure where you're going to put the hat band and feather (an old school cowboy hat thing) but I'm sure you'll work it out.
Am also from Texas have never dealt with snowy conditions like that and it always fascinates me seeing what "northern" pilots have to deal with, love your videos
Josh your v-logs are amazing. If you ever get bored of being a pilot and I sincerely hope that's never !!!! you could always become a full time film producer and commentator. Look forward to part 2.
I wish I knew you two were here I would have come to meet you. I live about 5 miles from BWI. I have been a ham radio operator for over 30 years and listen to BWI ATC alot. Love all of the videos. Fly safe.
Really cool! As the English is not my first language sometimes is hard to me understand some words but always I learn and practice something with your videos. Thank you guys!
I got my PPL in northern Minnesota. I don’t remember the runway being closed like that. Only thing that would delay us is to preheat when it was below 0. My complex endorsement was in a M20C and was a favorite to fly. Shoulder room between two grown men was tight but a sacrifice I was willing to give with the performance. Another great video.
Josh, you two guys are doing it up--its great to watch an instructor mentor his student, great job, and one very good looking airplane, congrats. One his way home to Florida, he may have flown over or very near my home base, KOPL.
I've never flown a day in my life. You're a great copilot and you clearly made him comfortable with his 1st flight in his new plane. Heck, I feel like I could have flown it if you were with me haha.
I have that same hat i wore it on a motorcycle ride from eastern arizona to el paso one winter in 20 degree weather you can imagine the wind chill at 80 mph lol stayed toasty all buttoned up and with full leathers great video looking forward to part 2
The Timbuktu was a favorite watering hole for my work crew during my career in that area... Ft. Meade, MD Snow this week was a bit unusual and melted totally the next day. Temps mid-60s.
You flew over my home KROA! I’ll be going down to Orlando FL in Oct. to attend the Jet Blue course! I’m beyond excited! Thanks so much for your videos and content! If you have any advice and what to prepare for or how to prepare for the class please let me know :)
Hey Josh this is another great video, I live in Baltimore and I am Spirit Airline mechanic in BWI i wish that I knew you guys were landing here, I also bought not too long ago a Piper Cherokee 140 and I am finally learning to fly, man I love your videos and I cannot thank you enough for all that I have learned from you. I have to say Ronaldo is a lucky guy to have you flying with him. One funny thing I use to live in Cocoa Beach, FL and also we had a place in Long Beach, CA. After getting my license, hopefully, in the coming months, I want to fly as much as I can to learn enough and be able to fly the whole Caribbean islands, will be awesome if you want to join me on this trip.
Exciting vlog, I'm very happy and jealous Ronaldo! Looking forward to the the next one. I have time in 201's, love Mooneys, it is what made me decide on building Van's planes. Cheer!
Great video Josh. Well filmed and nicely edited and I know from my flying channel here in the UK just how hard that can be. I enjoy all of your work and have done for a long time now but these trips make for excellent viewing.
Great video Josh. I love your instruction demeanor and new video format. Keep up the great work as instructor and videographer/storyteller. Can't wait for part 2. You help so many, including me, to be persistent on the path to the PPL.
Gonna love the garmin 750. Have one in my Comanche. Noticed you have a separate transponder. Our 750 has the transponder integrated. Mooney’s are great distance planes. Go fast.... Enjoy and thanks for sharing. Hope you’ll share some of the complex/high performance training with viewers. Most pilots either have them or don’t. Showing the training would be very informative to those that don’t have. Thanks as always. Love watching the videos. 7032P
You looked real funny having to put your nose on your iPhone. I do that too, sometimes cause I have disability with one hand. I sometimes have to use my nose to push the phone, but use the thumb on the hand that can move really well, physically. 🙄😆
Nice work Josh, I enjoy your story telling style on these road trips. I have just watched some of your earlier postings again and the difference in quality, style and content is like night and day. Well done. Looking forward to the avionics upgrade episode!

I also got accepted into embry riddle in Prescott az for this fall :)
Keep pressing on Inversiondude! I just passed my private check-ride and this channel is a big part of why I started flying in the first place.
Must be nice
Thanks so much for the support! Don’t stop pushing for your goals.
What a nice compliment to Josh . I wish you the best learning to fly & getting your PPL . Keep up the good work . Hope you succeed in getting 1500 hours to fly commercial .

what was cruise speed when burning 11 gallons/hour?
@@rivirme 165 kts
Why not just leave it on both fuel selectors? Keeping one on for an hour and then switching to the other seems unnecessary, and adds extra steps that could possibly be forgotten about.
Josh, I'm really enjoying your new take on humor and that a good thing! Keep up the humor.
That look on his face at 21:16 when the gear warning goes off is priceless.
Wow, from a 172 to a turbo Mooney! Man, he's living the dream!! Thanks again for a superb video.
I like these road ( air ) trips, keep them coming
Great video Josh. Great shots skimming along the cloud tops. Even the refuelling shot with the meter ticking over put me into rhythm and mood of the scene. The whole video reminded me of previous adventures and even better ones to come.

Really liked your response to the icing and your alternate changes. Great job
Great to see a new MOONEY owner!!!!!!! Get him on Mooney Space!

ThatFly WelshGuy that was a rather erudite comment
Mike Pazzree not sure if you’re using that as a compliment or an insult lol
I'm loving these vids. I fly the mooney on a home simulator and these vids help me do it properly. It's great
Fantastic as usual!! When I went from a 172 to my friends '62 M20C, I would spend alot of time practicing slowing her down from cruise to the white arc, very slippery. I love the way josh likes his snow gear so much, welcome to Canadian winters buddy
Love the editing on this Josh, creative and super fun to watch, thx
The Finer Points thanks Jason! See you at SNF?

Great video, I'm a student pilot at KAVL. Those 172s you shot at the end are our planes. Hope you enjoyed the beer!
Josh, your work keeps getting better. :)

I remember how slick that bird is in ground effect. When you are used to a high wing, it really makes a difference.
Josh. Is a wonderful instructor.
Josh - so impressive. Everyone should have a teacher/guide/friend like you. Wow.
Great job dude, the filming, the audio quality, the music choice, the editing....killlling it!
Your production is getting super slick. Enjoyed this as always. Good job
Absolutely beautiful mooney!!! What a great choice for a second airplane. Congratulations!! The flight from Delaware was amazing, until the rhime ice. Excellent ADM, along with being calm. Really enjoying your videos, keep them coming. Fly safe!!

That plane is purdy! Congrats to Arnaldo on a fine purchase!
Love the hat. I still have my winter flyers cap from the Air Force. When the ear flaps are snapped up, I call it my "Space Puppy" hat.
Delaware Air Park and Brandywine have the same CTAF as my airport. So I hear the Brandywine traffic all the time and every once in a while the Delaware Air Park traffic comes through.

Don't think anything will beat that awesome 7 (9) part series about flying out west, but I already have high hopes for this one. Great work as always.
Nice to get back to basics. Refreshing in different plane too. Congrats Ronaldo on the purchase!
Keep going!! France is supporting you !!
Cool de voir des frenchies ici :)
Hugo Saunier yeah ! #avgeek
I would just like to say thank you, from the rest of the world, for the Degrees Celsius conversations!
Congratulations to Renaldo on his new airplane ! Josh, very cool that you're going to be the CFI for his complex rating !
Enjoy your videos, your camera work and editing is awesome....I'm currently a 172 student pilot, learning just listening to our radio communications. Keep up the great work & Safe Flying

I'm digging the Boone & Crockett look!

I came for the aviation.. I stayed because... Josh you're just totally adorable.

Asheville is an awesome little town! A lot of aviation history in the area.
Josh your v-logs are amazing. If you ever get bored of being a pilot and I sincerely hope that's never !!!! you could always become a full time film producer and commentator. Look forward to part 2.
Your growth as a pilot has been amazing to watch. Your personality is really starting to shine through in these vids. keep up the great work.
How cool is that...a new plane and a complex endorsement on the way home.
TIT is also a abbreviation for Transmit Incremental Tuning. It is a control on an amateur radio.
I wish I knew you two were here I would have come to meet you. I live about 5 miles from BWI. I have been a ham radio operator for over 30 years and listen to BWI ATC alot. Love all of the videos. Fly safe.
Nice to see you in my hometown of Baltimore! Hope you enjoyed it and the snow for the short time you were there!

Great first flight in your Mooney! Nice coaching Josh!
The Timbuktu was a favorite watering hole for my work crew during my career in that area... Ft. Meade, MD Snow this week was a bit unusual and melted totally the next day. Temps mid-60s.
Great Video Josh
That 'Randy Quaid, Cousin Eddie' hat really does you justice man. Chicks will definitely dig it........
Hello you two. You have a beautiful machine! I wish you much fun during the transfer. Greetings from Munich Germany Tom
You flew over my home KROA! I’ll be going down to Orlando FL in Oct. to attend the Jet Blue course! I’m beyond excited! Thanks so much for your videos and content! If you have any advice and what to prepare for or how to prepare for the class please let me know :)
Josh your camera work is very good! Cheers!
Welcome to my area of the country. Nice video, can’t wait until part 2.
Glad to see your a real guy with humor love it!
Ahhh AVL. Worked there on the SIDA for about 2 years.
Very nice first landing in a Mooney! Speed control is key, great coaching Josh.
Great instructor Josh.
great video, as always. thanks for sharing the airventures, Josh.

Exciting vlog, I'm very happy and jealous Ronaldo! Looking forward to the the next one. I have time in 201's, love Mooneys, it is what made me decide on building Van's planes. Cheer!
Fantastic story telling, flying, and editing! It’s like we’re all there with you. Let me know if you’re in the San Diego area for some SR20 flying.
Great job Josh and great couching by you. Looking forward to the next one.
Very nice upgrade. Enjoy her..
HOw the heck did you guys find the Broadneck Grille????? In the snow???? The crab cakes looked good!
Nice plane Amaldo and great flight guys! I am looking forward to your next leg. Don. :-)
Best of Luck Arnaldo with your new plane, it's a keeper 4Sure .
Great video Josh. Well filmed and nicely edited and I know from my flying channel here in the UK just how hard that can be. I enjoy all of your work and have done for a long time now but these trips make for excellent viewing.
Nice airplane and the GTN750 is an amazing bit of kit.
You guys are great I own a plane I haven't been flying for a while and you make me want to get out there and do it and in a safe way
Great video Josh. I love your instruction demeanor and new video format. Keep up the great work as instructor and videographer/storyteller. Can't wait for part 2. You help so many, including me, to be persistent on the path to the PPL.
Great video! Well done! Looking forward the next leg!
Great flight guys you will love the moony great cross country machine.
Use to fly in my grand father’s Mooney as a kid, beautiful machine.
Wow! Great video man! I like your approach. Very professional and brief. Would study with you in a heartbeat! Best Regards!
Josh, this video was great. Keep up the natural humor, ahaha. Really enjoyed this video. Ground and sky shots are amazing.
Looks like a 231? Nice ride. I've had a carbureted 'C model for about 4 years and love it. They are fantastice, efficient traveling machines.
Cool! He has speed brakes. Those are very good to have when making steep arrivals.
Nice Mooney Ronaldo. In any complex start singing ‘PUFF the magic dragon’ on finals! P prop, U undercarriage, F flap, F fuel. Enjoy your flying.
