In the unlikely event of a water landing, your co-pilot may be used as a flotation device.
LMAO!!!
lol
“Blew past the 1000’ mark and that’s okay.” A real Bob Ross of flying. Love it!
Just busted bravo...happy little accidents.
You would think the ATC guy would let you finish your bell pepper before changing frequency.... great video, thank you.
Right? How rude, I bet he was watching him with binoculars just waiting for the right time call him
6:23 - Aviate, Navigate, Eat, Communicate.
When he's landing he sounds like the Bob Ross of aviation. Soooo Soothing.
LOL
6:15 Holy crap! You CRUSHED that whole container of hummus! 🤣🙈😂
Lol, can’t talk to ATC with a pepper in your mouth... caught that chuckle lol
Yes, don’t catch the get-there-itis
BEST VIDEO TITLE EVER!
Angle of Attack I wonder who came up with it.
Angle of Attack Best dancing ever!
Serious question: does anyone know where I can get a cushion / pillow like that copilot please? Want one, but can't find where they sell them!
@@DeltaXPilot following
@Greg Hoopingarner thank you - I did indeed find one there a while ago, so got myself a co-pilot for Xmas 2020 🛫
I appreciate someone else who performs approach and landing by getting a feel for the plane and its energy management, rather than rote, do-it-same-every-time RPM, flap, attitude. Be one with your plane.
That Airplane Otto the autopilot pillow is hilarious!
Love the view, much better than airline. Sometimes low and slow humbles you to the beauty around us that we miss a lot of times.
Josh, nice list of things to think about, things to take with you, and great point on the credit card being declined while traveling (been there, had it happen). One thing I'd add is that I always call my next fuel stop while I'm on the ground to make sure their pump is working, credit card machine is working, etc. I've had a couple of times when I've gotten stopped only to find something was broken, and I had to go elsewhere. It can cause a nice delay in a well planned day. One time I called ahead and was told everything was good to go, on arrival I found their pump meter was out of order. I told the guy that I had called ahead and was assured everything was fine, he asked who I had talked to and I said I didn't know, but it was a woman. He informed me she was the waitress in the cafe and didn't know anything...He took pity on me, filled me up based on how much fuel I said it would take, and off I went.
The priceless moment of panic as he gets caught with a bell pepper in his mouth and an expectant controller on the other end!
It is good to see our old friend 80991 back in the air again. Great video Josh Thank you doing these. I always learn something to make me a better pilot when I get my PPL.
Seeing Pensacola and Destin make me homesick. I did a lot of flying down there. I'm getting ready for a LONG cross country from Hartford CT to Crestview FL in a few weeks and this video is great for preparing.
This is military-grade off-topic, so I apologize. I'm a bit of a traffic nerd, but I almost didn't catch the significance of that highway interchange at 4:59. It looks kind of like a regular cloverleaf, but it's actually SO much more interesting. The problem with a cloverleaf is that the on-ramp comes before the off-ramp in the center, requiring ALL merging cars to cross paths, which is both slow and dangerous. But look at this brilliant design. All cars get off before any cars get on, requiring no cross-weaving. And it uses this neat figure-8 looking setup. Very, very cool.
Okay, back to airplanes.
Your videos are amazing! I’m currently training in a C172 and I always look forward to watching your newest videos. That look of panic when you had the pepper in your mouth and received the frequency change was golden!
Safe travels 😊
Hi Will
I love your videos! Because of you, I started lessons at age 11 and I have over 50 hours now. I just did a cross country from Pennsylvania to Columbus international and it was amazing!
Dude that’s awesome! Especially considering you’re still young
keep at it!
@@aaronlippincott7385 definitely going to! I really want to pursue this as a career, so hopefully that all goes well.
The best flight I ever had was with my then 12 year old daughter to the Cessna 150-152 Club flyin in from Augusta Kansas to Clinton Iowa in 2015. It was my longest cross country since getting the PPL in 2010. I was nervous starting out. I was so nervous that I stopped at a familiar airport 20 miles away from home. I thought, "My daughter's life is on the line. What am I doing?" The weather was VFR, but not perfect. Maybe 7 mile vis. My daughter was game. I decided to try one more leg. Then another. We continued to Clinton and had a ball. Since then, I've done many cross countries and I got my IR for safety. I still fly a C150. I haven't yet done everything I can in the small plane. Once I'm satisfied, I might move up to a faster, larger plane.
@Aviation 101 you need to shout “clleeeaaaarrrr” in the next video 😂😂😂
Excellent video. You make great points for those wanting to extend their range. Have a plan B , and C. A diversion just adds to the adventure, all good. Looking forward to the return flight home.
With those dance moves it's clear that Chris has his instrument rating :o) I have a suggestion for the survival kit. Make sure you know how to use everything in it. Especially the fire starting items. The odds are pretty low that the aircraft will make an emergency landing and roll to a stop next to a stack of wood and kindling covered by a tarp. It's important to know where to find the dry stuff in a wet environment. Once the fire is lit make sure there's not a big blob of snow on the tree limbs above the fire. Jack London's To Build a Fire comes to mind
I want to thank you for all your videos, I am in my late 60's unable to get out much, love your videos of Florida, I live in SW Florida and get GREAT views, Thank you again Be Safe and GOD SPEED TO YOU AND ALL OF YOUR FUTURE FLIGHTS
Josh, just a quick note of Thanks! for your wonderful videos- LOVED Alaska, LOVED the mountain flying trip, and- well, just about EVERYTHING you produced in 2019! So, Happy Holidays to you & yours and I genuinely look forward to 2020- I know the content will be AWESOME. I really like that you refocused the channel a little this year, and, I think it reflects "who you are" a little more directly, as you mature.
So many of us love your content, but, forget to just say it. (Most posts are complaints, 'catches' of mistakes, or edits). So, for all of my complaints in 2019 (hmmm, you may have to search buddy!) just remember, we ALL love your efforts. Thank you for bringing us along, showing us behind the scenes, and, keeping us all current,
You are the VERY best!

Between this video and the one before it, your organizational skills are on display.
Someone probably already said it but a good utility knife in the survival kit. Very useful and hard to improvise.
What a great video!! Down to earth and fun. I miss my flying days. Thanks for sharing, Josh. Another job well done..
Merry Christmas Josh. Looks like Chris was in his glory on the dance floor.
Glad you had a smooth flight. Looking forward to the return home.
Thanks for sharing.
I always love flying the emerald coast. Learned to fly in Destin a few more condos lining the beaches since the '90s. Great job being an aviation evangelist. Keep the videos coming.
Carry money. Be flexible. Dont run out of gas. Learned so much common sense here. Thanks
Good to see you smile and let your great sense of humour come out ..."any questions? Didn't think so" 😎
Another excellent content Josh, especially on survival gears. Breath taking aerial views of the southern coasts. Thank you
Well done. Coast line is amazing. Great tips on the gear. Have a great trip.
Awesome vlog!! Really enjoyed this trip and all the beautiful views. Taking the time to plan your trip is so very important, but it's all worth it in the end. Got a good laugh when you were having your snack and trying to talk to ATC!! lol. Thank you
Great video and this message comes at the right time for me! In the midst of planning a longer cross country and, for some reason, it has had my stomaching knots. Thanks for sharing!
It's always awesome to see my home airport (New Orleans Lakefront - KNEW) and my house in your videos!
Survival kit- add a bundle of clothes line or poly rope- shelter prep- lashing anything to carry- splints- also hand crank chargeable flashlight.
Jush, you are great! I love flying with you - even if only virtually.
Oh my ... ! What a great and fantastic flight journey to your destination and really looking forward for more of your wonderful and interesting flights on RUclips again soon . Thanks so much. Regards. From The Flight Deck .
Great Video! I am not a pilot, only limited experience in small aircraft as a passenger. But with many cross-country wilderness hikes SOLO, I like the way he is prepared. Always a good idea, along with planning. And, yeah...loved the pepper in the HUMUS with ATC interruptions, lol. Glad I subscribe to your flight channel. Safe travels to ya!
Great Video Brother! Looked like an epic solo adventure. Safe flying!
Great vid. I have a Cherokee 140/160 and I’m based at X04 Orlando Apopka. Last year became IFR current again and did a similar cross country from X04 to Branson, MO with a couple stops. Nothing like it and as you say, its easy when you break it down. Love your approach to flying, thorough and safe.
You flew right by my hometown! Grew up in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Enjoy the Gulf Coast and Florida! Thanks again for the awesome content. Motivated me to start part 141 training. Fly safe.
Excellent stuff bro
Great video! I love seeing N80991 up in the air again! =)
Can't wait to see your next video! Keep up the good work!
Awesome video!!! You crushed that hummus....
Josh - great channel and incredible content. Thank you. Along this video, I would love to see your take on planning a long VFR cross-country when partial clouds are forecasted- how you would track forecasted ceilings, routes and what factors into a go/no-go decision. Thanks again!
glad you come to pensacola fl hope you in joy your stay .
Epic.. looking forward to more videos...
Love your vids. As a student Pilot just getting ready to solo. I actually LEARN watching your vids.. THANKS
What a wonderful video, thanks for sharing.
That's beautiful!
GA forever
great tips Josh , Never be afraid to divert , ever .. Merry Christmas from NYC ..
Better in flight food service then some of the major carriers ive been on. Company seemed a little quiet but at least he didnt fall asleep on your shoulder mid flight
You sir, are living my #LifeGoals ! Good on ya!
Great video ! Thank you !
I made 2 long cross country trips this Summer on the club's 182. I flew from the FL Panhandle to Cumberland, MD in July and Lincoln, NE in August. I didn't have all that fancy gear. I used my phone's GPS with Avare to navigate and would check the weather ahead on the Weather Channel App on my phone. I enjoyed the adventure. I didn't plan my fuel stops. When I got to a point I sort of I needed fuel, I would find somewhere to land. I try never to land at any airport I've landed at before. I love the adventure of just pointing the plane toward where I'm going and figuring it out. There was significant weather on both trips, but I just kind of figured it out. Like he said, it's no big deal.
Enjoyed the video. I had many trips up the River to Baton Rouge on a tanker for 35 years.
Another great video, Josh. Always enjoy the views of Destin.
Another great video with much pertinent information. Thanks!
Yas a smart man mr. Flowers. Dad taught ya, you learned well. Kados. (teaching is easy, learning takes skill) s
Watching this during quarantine. 3 months passed since my last flight, it was one of my first cross country and the longest so far. Poor planning, bad weather and not being familiar with the mountainous terrain got me in a very scary situation. Luckily I was flying with another more experienced pilot that ended up saving the day.
Thank you for this content, it's really helpful to see the right way to plan a flight like you did here.
Waiting to implement this lessons as soon as covid19 allows me to!
Another amazing video by Josh Flowers or should I say, Sergeant Pepper. You almost choked on the pepper. You could have taken me along instead of that stupid dummy. I could have handled the radios, pumped gas, cleaned windshield, etc. HA. thanks for allowing me to ride along. safe flying!
Did you eat an entire tub of humus with one bell pepper? LOL
He's got a bag of sweet peppers there. Great snack lol.
I 1955 Tripacer, west, to east coast and back. Scary as hell at times. I had the original radios. I think it was Mark IV. Learned a lot.
I’ve never done a checklist on a hold short of a runway, although I suppose if you KNOW you are the only one there then that’s ok. Thx for your great vids as usual Greetings from England 🏴
Research and plan! Two most important action! Merry Christmas to you and your family. Safe travels!
Awesome video Josh!!!! Have fun in FL! Merry Christmas!
That Onyx life vest matches your shirt perfectly! If you're go down in the sea, do it in style. ; )
Another great one Josh. Y'all have a good christmas. Stay safe I'll c-ya
Landing in Florida, you talk about the landing like Bob Ross talks about painting. It’s great.
Keep it up, love the videos.
Great trip Josh; it was nice to be along for the ride, thanks!
It's great when you luck into great weather. My longest trip was round trip from NJ to TX to visit family and come back a week later in an Arrow. I couldn't have asked for better weather both ways.
Great video brother. Looking forward to more of these.
Love your copilot dude!
Cool dude! Sounds like me on the Hope trail
You flew right over my town awesome
Currently saving up to get my PPL here in NZ.. These videos are a great motivator for me. That coastline is stunning!!
Hope you've got some lessons under your belt now. I wish you the best of luck
Fantastic video!! such great advice!! i love your wisdom.. i learn so much. I love OTTO too!
Great video Josh, you make it look easy, every time I watch your videos makes me want to take a trip! Weather here in South Georgia has been crummy lately, don’t have my instrument ticket yet, working on it now, Merry Christmas.
Landing at lake front airport is definitely an experience! Coming into 18R over the water is always a fun one!
Great Video
Josh, great comment about bringing different payment methods with you. I flew into KDXR today and had payment issues, but because I had other forms of payment it was no big deal.
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.
Great video
What a great video and some great advice 👍🏻
In the pre GPS days flying from Melbourne Victoria Australia to Darwin Northern Territory Australia VFR was a fun 1,700Nm trip. Only about a dozen navigation aids and a whole lot of space between airports, tested your planning and navigation skills. But one of the best experiences you could have. Got shot out of the sky between Katherine and Darwin by a USMC AV8B, well simulated shot down thankfully. Most legs flown were in the 200 to 300Nm range. It is all do able, just got plan well and use your brains. On one flight in the outback arrived at a destination and couldn't find another plane that left from the same departure point before us, they punched the wrong info into their GPS and were over 100Nm off track before realising their mistake.
Wow!! Just wow!!
I always feel better about everything after I watch a video from Aviation101.
Ryan Wilhelm same
Thanks for the ride
Thank you for the great videos, love them! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Top-notch educational episode!! Wishing you and yours a blessed 2020.
my piper 140 is based out at kaps! awesome little airport
Used to live in Pensacola. Great to see the beach!
Josh, I would recommend you getting your ham radio license. There is generally repeater networks within reach in even remote areas that are not in cell phone range. A lightweight handheld transceiver would get you in quick contact with the locals. All the repeater freqs can be preloaded. In addition, I would have a lightweight foldable solar panel to keep batteries charged.
Legit some of the best landings I've seen on YT.
Many thanks for the great video series! Best wishes for both Christmas and New Year. First solo 1969, stents a couple years ago - my flying today is with yourself, Stevo, Baron Pilot, Premier One, Amy, 210, etc. Thanks, be safe!
Josh great video always learning something new when watching your videos keep them coming.
Excellent video, well done..
awesome video
Awesome video, content like this is helping save general aviation!
