Hi Jenn! I’m also a Type A and experience a lot of anxiety. I’m just like you, a problem solver constantly trying to find ways to manage and fix my anxiety. As a practicing Buddhist what I’ve found works best for me aside for meditation is to not fix it. Allow it to arise and dissolve. You are the watcher, because you watch it occur, you are not it. “To have the courage to go home to yourself, to recognize and hold the suffering inside and look deeply into it, may be the most important thing for you to do as a meditator. The meditator breathes in and says, “Hello, my fear, my anger, my despair. I will take good care of you." The moment you recognize the feeling and smile to it with love and care, embracing the fear with mindfulness, it will begin to change. That is the miracle of mindfulness. It's like morning sunlight shining on a lotus flower. The bud has not opened yet, but as the sunlight pours down, the photons penetrate into the bud, and after one or two hours of being penetrated by the light, the flower opens itself. We have the energy of mindfulness generated by mindful walking, sitting or breathing. With that energy we embrace our fear gently as the light embracing the flower. When the two kinds of energy encounter each other, there will be a change, a transformation. The energy of tenderness penetrates the fear, anger or despair. You hold it as dearly as you might hold a wounded child."
I cannot tell you how comforting it is to hear someone else experiencing visual disturbances due to anxiety. This has been the case for me for 4 years now. Eyes and brain checked out and all pointed to anxiety. I too struggle with health anxiety. I’m a new mom as of Dec 2021 and recently experiencing a flare up of all these symptoms again. I can’t thank you enough for sharing this - it’s nice to know I’m not alone.
If you are pregnant all you really need are diapers, bottles, a carrier, clothes, wipes and cloths. Just get a LOT of that. Everything else is sooo extra honestly the whole like hand heater things and gadgets can make this so overwhelming. Just do you and take it slow. You can always get things you likr as you so. You won't know what is convenient for you until you have your baby. Not everyone needs or enjoys using the same things. Hope this helps. First rule, don't panic, clothes and diapers are the essential. Back in the day moms didn't have all this nonsense. Also nonsense is expensive, lol
It's also very difficult for new fathers, since it is all very new to them as well. I would love to hear Ben's perspective; he tries to stay positive and is always so sure of himself. I am also an overthinker like Jen and I feel like it robs me from getting the full experience because I am always in my own head. Hearing Jen open up makes me want to try harder to accept life for what it is and to allow myself to be more in tune with the moment❣️
My oldest is now almost 5 and my youngest is 2 and I still deal with the anxiety you talk about. I think the state of the world right now amplifies it so I’ve cut out most social media and regular news watching. You’re very self-aware which is the first step in remedying and healing any mental health issues so I think you’ll do very well. Lennon couldn’t ask for a better Momma. 💕
As a mother of a 7 and 9 year old, It gets much easier, just like with anything. The more practice and experience the easier it becomes. It also helps that their dad is very hands on, I can only imagine how hard it is for single parents.
Love this Jenn. My son is almost 9 months old and I feel so confident in my motherhood instinct now. I didn't feel confident until about 4-5 months, honestly. Now it's so normal and natural. It's a willllddddd ride, tiring and scary at times but so worth it ❤️
I heard that almost 45% of mothers experience trauma during and after birth. The 4th trimester is the least talked about, the period where mothers are least educated on and yet need the most support and help. Thank you Jenn for being so brave and sharing your most vulnerable experiences and lessons. Lennon has a resilient momma he is already so proud of.
Seeing visual disturbance is a sign of stress. I had it too during a stressful period of my life. I thought I was going blind too and I went to the ER. But the doctors didn't take me seriously and just sent me home. It was years later through my acupuncturist that I learned it was due to stress and anxiety. Mental health is so important and I love how you are so raw and open. I started going back to therapy because of you.

Amazing video Jen. I too experienced the emotional shift while breastfeeding. It felt like intense moments of depression and anxiety/panic. Thankfully, the social worker at my hospital explained why I was feeling this was and it was so helpful to know it’s normal! Finally someone talking honestly about what realy dominates the postpartum stage emotionally. Thank you for beenig so opened and honest. I felt understood and I wish I had seen such a video when I was going through it. The subject of postpartum Anxiety is still not comunicated enough so that there are still mamas that feel as if they are alone, but they are not.
Can I just say- Thank You!! For sharing all of this! I am 5 1/2 months pregnant and to hear a mom say all of the worries they had or the hard times they had really helps us soon to be moms. So many times I see videos of nothing but positivity and I think to myself " I don't think my experience will be like that" Normalizing the struggle of being 1. a new mom 2. having all of these hormones leave your body and change you 3. trying to "keep up" with the world. These are all things we need to have conversations about, and I really want to say thank you! Thank you for being brave enough to share your story and the journey you still take. Hey Jenn, I’m not pregnant or with postpartum but I always had the flashes and floating stuff in the eyes, I notice that they appear when I lack sleep or I’m ‘high’ on coffee! Which is linked to anxiety for sure, I did not even think about getting blind but I think we are fine! 😄It’s good to see any type of videos from you even if I’m not on the same journey yet, brings me comfort and good vibes ☁️🌞🤍
At the height of my anxiety, I had very similar eye issues to you as well. Rainbow zig zags, black floaters and during one particular instance, the center of my vision was just totally gone. Like everything I focused on was blank. Similar to looking at the sun and then at something else or having a brightly lit flash of a camera go off and then looking away. It was terrifying. But it went away when I calmed down. I also would get wicked dizzy spells and just felt so discouraged like I couldn’t trust my body.

New mom here!!! My baby’s 6 months old and omg could I freaking relate to the d-mer part. It’s so good to know that it’s actually a hormonal thing, I remember feeling a wave of anxiousness every time my son latched for the first two months. I always just tried to shrug it off and told myself it was just my mind playing games and that everything is alright. Really felt like you answered a puzzle for me through this video …. Good to know if this happens again with any future children! :) happy to hear your doing well and taking care of your mental health. Definitely something moms need to prioritize!

I have always noticed when my anxiety is more severe, I experience visual disturbances as well. You’re the first person I’ve ever heard say this as well. I’m pregnant now so I’m glad I can be prepared if this happens postpartum. Thank you for being so brave and so real. It’s helped me feel more normal, and prepared.

Not a mom, but I really relate to the medical anxiety. I went to a bunch of eye doctors because I would get these panic attacks where I would literally lose the majority of my vision in one eye. It was so scary. I had scans and everything done. It's amazing the affect of stress, anxiety, and even hormones can have on the body. I'm glad you are finding a better place and the ripple of things is starting to feel better!
There are a lot of things that people say to pregnant/new moms that create so much anxiety, like to will feel so much love the first time you see the positive test....the only I felt was fear, shock and anxiety...and felt so guilty because of it. I appreciate videos like this, so real! People except so much of us even when we dont have a clue what we are doing!
They don’t pay me enough to be a woman. My respect and love for our kind is just on a whole other level. We go through so much. I’m still young and not at all ready to be a mom, but I have such a huge appreciation for my mom for going through this 😭
I appreciate the honesty and I'm going to be honest too: I don't see any reason why I'd put myself through this experience. I can feel enough love from people around me and my pets. I don't want my body to suffer and my neurosystem to be dysfunctional (which I worked for years to stabilize with therapy and medication) just so I get to be responsible for a human being until I die. I can always adopt if I choose to build a family of my own (I like to bring this up since it tends to be forgotten❤️). Motherhood, from carrying an alien (some people don't feel connected to their babies for a long time after they're born so i call it alien lol) in my belly to the recovery from tearing, the mom guilt, brain fog, self-sacrife, physical exhaustion, sleep depravation, sensory over stimulation from loud crying sessions, the identity crisis, the external judgment, body dysmorphia, depression and anxiety, etc.... it couldn't be me. I have nothing but huge respect for mothers but I'm so relieved to know the honest side of their stories so I can sincerely say I would be in a living nightmare if I chose to be one. I think it's so important to have honest conversations about this topic so women choose motherhood consciously informed, not brainswashed by romantization and societal pressure. Like some comments here say, media shows only the pretty side of motherhood and women often lie about it due to fear of judgement too. This leads to many regretting their decision and enprisioning themselves in a life they hate. There's huge threads on reddit filled with parents that were misled into the idea of parenting. I've seen it with close friends and it's heartbreaking. I'm glad Jenn is so transparent with us and I'm proud of the mom she is today. I hope she continues to love this experience despite the challenges he faces every day. Shoutout to all the moms, the ones who love it, the ones that sometimes hate it and specially the ones that regret it but will carry the burden of knowing it in silence. ❤️
5 week mama here! I resonate with everything you experienced, especially the breastfeeding part! The trouble latching, supply worries, pain, the dread every time I was about to do a feed...it almost felt easier to just pump and feed it through a bottle! who knew there was a hormonal reason for it!
I got hit by a car and almost killed, and in the first few months of my recovery was diagnosed with post traumatic stress.. the vision stuff you describe is somewhat similar to my experience. I was having panic attacks while falling asleep (it's pretty weird when your subconscious takes over and is freaked the f out) and I had craaaazy stuff happening behind my eyelids. Insane geometric patterns, lots of flashes, lots of purple. Anxiety and stress manifest in such strange ways sometimes, and are great at making you feel like you've got some undiagnosed injury/disorder. Glad you're feeling more capable of taking your life back from the worry!

I had similar eye disturbances when my second son was a baby and I had glandular fever at same time. Also migraines with aura can cause it. And this is just a random thought but pressure from pushing during labour and swelling can affect the eyes too. I experience horrible health anxiety at times coz I do have health problems and I think when something is off/or different than its natural so you are not alone.
@@imjennim I still have them at times. I experience light sensitivity blurring and pain. I do have sinus headaches and pressure. Your sinus could actually be a bit swollen or congested. ❤❤

We are trying for our first baby and I am super scared and anxious already. My lack of coincidence in being a mother, my already high anxiety and fear of lack of sleep. I really like the idea of what you and Ben did with your sleep arrangement. So did you guys have a bed in the nursery and sleep separately until it was the other ones turn? I’m afraid about sleeping in separate beds for long periods and loosing connection. I know with being a new parent you don’t really have time together anymore and I feel like that’s the only time you both come together after the whole day…
I love the confidence but also know things flux and the rollercoasters will continue to happen. You will feel that confidence about if you are doing motherhood "correctly" drop and grow over and over. The feeling that you don't know what to do will happen over and over. My daughter is 5 and to expect the unexpected helps keep me on my toes.

My oldest is now almost 5 and my youngest is 2 and I still deal with the anxiety you talk about. I think the state of the world right now amplifies it so I’ve cut out most social media and regular news watching. You’re very self-aware which is the first step in remedying and healing any mental health issues so I think you’ll do very well. Lennon couldn’t ask for a better Momma. 💕

As a mother of a 7 and 9 year old, It gets much easier, just like with anything. The more practice and experience the easier it becomes. It also helps that their dad is very hands on, I can only imagine how hard it is for single parents.
Love this Jenn. My son is almost 9 months old and I feel so confident in my motherhood instinct now. I didn't feel confident until about 4-5 months, honestly. Now it's so normal and natural. It's a willllddddd ride, tiring and scary at times but so worth it ❤️

I heard that almost 45% of mothers experience trauma during and after birth. The 4th trimester is the least talked about, the period where mothers are least educated on and yet need the most support and help. Thank you Jenn for being so brave and sharing your most vulnerable experiences and lessons. Lennon has a resilient momma he is already so proud of.
Seeing visual disturbance is a sign of stress. I had it too during a stressful period of my life. I thought I was going blind too and I went to the ER. But the doctors didn't take me seriously and just sent me home. It was years later through my acupuncturist that I learned it was due to stress and anxiety. Mental health is so important and I love how you are so raw and open. I started going back to therapy because of you.
I really really appreciate the videos you're making about pregnancy and recovering afterwards. I really want to have kids in the near future and hearing such a candid and honest account of your experiences has been so moving. So happy for you and your sweet lil family Jenn

This is the kind of love and warmth that I wish I had and watching yours and Ben's videos make me so so happy .Your baby is going to be raised with so much unconditional love and it makes my heart ache knowing what I missed but it also makes my heart swell knowing that there are parents out there who offer love and this baby is going to be receiving so much love and care. Amazing video Jen. I too experienced the emotional shift while breastfeeding. It felt like intense moments of depression and anxiety/panic. Thankfully, the social worker at my hospital explained why I was feeling this was and it was so helpful to know it’s normal! I’m thankful for you sharing your experience and to have you as a fellow new mom!

Finally someone talking honestly about what realy dominates the postpartum stage emotionally. Thank you for beenig so opened and honest. I felt understood and I wish I had seen such a video when I was going through it. The subject of postpartum Anxiety is still not comunicated enough so that there are still mamas that feel as if they are alone, but they are not.

Can I just say- Thank You!! For sharing all of this! I am 5 1/2 months pregnant and to hear a mom say all of the worries they had or the hard times they had really helps us soon to be moms. So many times I see videos of nothing but positivity and I think to myself " I don't think my experience will be like that" Normalizing the struggle of being 1. a new mom 2. having all of these hormones leave your body and change you 3. trying to "keep up" with the world. These are all things we need to have conversations about, and I really want to say thank you! Thank you for being brave enough to share your story and the journey you still take. I humbly appreciate it!

Hey Jenn, I’m not pregnant or with postpartum but I always had the flashes and floating stuff in the eyes, I notice that they appear when I lack sleep or I’m ‘high’ on coffee! Which is linked to anxiety for sure, I did not even think about getting blind but I think we are fine! 😄It’s good to see any type of videos from you even if I’m not on the same journey yet, brings me comfort and good vibes ☁️🌞🤍
At the height of my anxiety, I had very similar eye issues to you as well. Rainbow zig zags, black floaters and during one particular instance, the center of my vision was just totally gone. Like everything I focused on was blank. Similar to looking at the sun and then at something else or having a brightly lit flash of a camera go off and then looking away. It was terrifying. But it went away when I calmed down. I also would get wicked dizzy spells and just felt so discouraged like I couldn’t trust my body.

Love this! Totally agree breastfeeding gets way easier after the first 2 months. I also combo feed with formula and it gives me a very important break physically and mentally every day!

New mom here!!! My baby’s 6 months old and omg could I freaking relate to the d-mer part. It’s so good to know that it’s actually a hormonal thing, I remember feeling a wave of anxiousness every time my son latched for the first two months. I always just tried to shrug it off and told myself it was just my mind playing games and that everything is alright. Really felt like you answered a puzzle for me through this video …. Good to know if this happens again with any future children! :) happy to hear your doing well and taking care of your mental health. Definitely something moms need to prioritize!

I have always noticed when my anxiety is more severe, I experience visual disturbances as well. You’re the first person I’ve ever heard say this as well. I’m pregnant now so I’m glad I can be prepared if this happens postpartum. Thank you for being so brave and so real. It’s helped me feel more normal, and prepared.

Not a mom, but I really relate to the medical anxiety. I went to a bunch of eye doctors because I would get these panic attacks where I would literally lose the majority of my vision in one eye. It was so scary. I had scans and everything done. It's amazing the affect of stress, anxiety, and even hormones can have on the body. I'm glad you are finding a better place and the ripple of things is starting to feel better!
Ugh I'm so sorry to hear you've gone through this too. Stress, anxiety, and hormones can be a potent cocktail for visual disturbances. 😭
There are a lot of things that people say to pregnant/new moms that create so much anxiety, like to will feel so much love the first time you see the positive test....the only I felt was fear, shock and anxiety...and felt so guilty because of it. I appreciate videos like this, so real! People except so much of us even when we dont have a clue what we are doing!
They don’t pay me enough to be a woman. My respect and love for our kind is just on a whole other level. We go through so much. I’m still young and not at all ready to be a mom, but I have such a huge appreciation for my mom for going through this 😭

I appreciate the honesty and I'm going to be honest too: I don't see any reason why I'd put myself through this experience. I can feel enough love from people around me and my pets. I don't want my body to suffer and my neurosystem to be dysfunctional (which I worked for years to stabilize with therapy and medication) just so I get to be responsible for a human being until I die. I can always adopt if I choose to build a family of my own (I like to bring this up since it tends to be forgotten❤️).
Motherhood, from carrying an alien (some people don't feel connected to their babies for a long time after they're born so i call it alien lol) in my belly to the recovery from tearing, the mom guilt, brain fog, self-sacrife, physical exhaustion, sleep depravation, sensory over stimulation from loud crying sessions, the identity crisis, the external judgment, body dysmorphia, depression and anxiety, etc.... it couldn't be me. I have nothing but huge respect for mothers but I'm so relieved to know the honest side of their stories so I can sincerely say I would be in a living nightmare if I chose to be one. I think it's so important to have honest conversations about this topic so women choose motherhood consciously informed, not brainswashed by romantization and societal pressure. Like some comments here say, media shows only the pretty side of motherhood and women often lie about it due to fear of judgement too. This leads to many regretting their decision and enprisioning themselves in a life they hate. There's huge threads on reddit filled with parents that were misled into the idea of parenting.
I've seen it with close friends and it's heartbreaking.
I'm glad Jenn is so transparent with us and I'm proud of the mom she is today. I hope she continues to love this experience despite the challenges he faces every day.
Shoutout to all the moms, the ones who love it, the ones that sometimes hate it and specially the ones that regret it but will carry the burden of knowing it in silence. ❤️
5 week mama here! I resonate with everything you experienced, especially the breastfeeding part! The trouble latching, supply worries, pain, the dread every time I was about to do a feed...it almost felt easier to just pump and feed it through a bottle! who knew there was a hormonal reason for it!
I got hit by a car and almost killed, and in the first few months of my recovery was diagnosed with post traumatic stress.. the vision stuff you describe is somewhat similar to my experience. I was having panic attacks while falling asleep (it's pretty weird when your subconscious takes over and is freaked the f out) and I had craaaazy stuff happening behind my eyelids. Insane geometric patterns, lots of flashes, lots of purple. Anxiety and stress manifest in such strange ways sometimes, and are great at making you feel like you've got some undiagnosed injury/disorder. Glad you're feeling more capable of taking your life back from the worry!
I'm so glad you talked about D-MER and seeing flashes, I experienced both!! And listening to you talk I now realize my PP anxiety was probably more severe than I thought, glad to hear someone else going through the same stuff

I had similar eye disturbances when my second son was a baby and I had glandular fever at same time. Also migraines with aura can cause it. And this is just a random thought but pressure from pushing during labour and swelling can affect the eyes too. I experience horrible health anxiety at times coz I do have health problems and I think when something is off/or different than its natural so you are not alone.

@@imjennim I still have them at times. I experience light sensitivity blurring and pain. I do have sinus headaches and pressure. Your sinus could actually be a bit swollen or congested. ❤❤

We are trying for our first baby and I am super scared and anxious already. My lack of coincidence in being a mother, my already high anxiety and fear of lack of sleep. I really like the idea of what you and Ben did with your sleep arrangement. So did you guys have a bed in the nursery and sleep separately until it was the other ones turn? I’m afraid about sleeping in separate beds for long periods and loosing connection. I know with being a new parent you don’t really have time together anymore and I feel like that’s the only time you both come together after the whole day…

I love the confidence but also know things flux and the rollercoasters will continue to happen. You will feel that confidence about if you are doing motherhood "correctly" drop and grow over and over. The feeling that you don't know what to do will happen over and over. My daughter is 5 and to expect the unexpected helps keep me on my toes.
