All SO true! I've met frustrated beach newbies having zero luck. No-name detectors, backwards coil, unextended shaft, big garden shovel, etc... When they saw my finds bag, they were receptive to a 5-minute tutorial & demo. (no "Z" or "banana" swings - having them detect a few surface coins) They were much happier so see that their machines DO work. I hope they found some coins later.

Your video came across my feed and I'd never watched anything from your RUclips channel prior to today. Your advice was spot on. All metal detectors swing them over metal they beep you dig a hole. If someone's not having success with a metal detector it's probably not the detector's fault unless there's something wrong with it which does happen from time to time. I started out 3 years ago with a $60 bounty hunter gold digger and I am currently awaiting the arrival of my my lab manticore should be here tomorrow. And I've had several in between and they all did the same thing swing over metal and beep. Good job on the video I really liked it.
@@digtilldarkdetecting363 I started with an ACE 200 I bought used for 50 bucks. That hooked me into the hobby. Same as you, I’ve used other detectors since. I think a lot of people lack patience. I also realize a lot of people don’t have a ton of time but I didn’t either. I spent A LOT of time in my yard 😂. I appreciate your comment and your watching my video. Means a lot to me thanks! I remember reading that same post. I think any detector is probably capable of finding anything. I think some people think they are going to find all this gold and silver. I'm guilty myself. I found a few old house to hunt and thought for sure I'd clean up on silver but never did.talking about a let down. I'm finding plenty of other coins and stuff to keep interested. I'd say I'm addicted now. Found my first pocket knife this weekend, it was no beauty but probably 70 or 80 years old which i was pretty excited myself. Found it right in my front yard i been over a million times. Just decided to dig some other tones. I have the xtp and it is a very capable machine in my opinion. My cousin has a detector that cost twice as much and mine smokes his. I've put several hundred hours into mine and i think i know it fairly well now.
@@darinblackburn6023 keep at it! I still get just as excited finding things like old knives or buckles or buttons. In total I have only found about 5 silver coins and I didn’t start finding those until I was a year into the hobby. Persistence pays off.
Are there any tips to getting better faster? I get that there is no substitute for honing your skills, but maybe some common mistakes you made when you were first staring out.
@@Cathy16011 I spent A LOT of time in my yard. I would come home from work and put an hour or more if I could on my detector. I dug everything and especially took note of the tones and VDIs. At times I would bury certain objects in an area to test my detector. I do still dig trash, but less of it for sure. Practicing like this will allow you to tune into your detector. It will get to the point where you can almost “call” a target, ie: “That’s probably a dime, etc” it’s not always 100% but you can get close. Pull tabs are the exception it seems though, they are the bane of our existence.
@@Cathy16011 another thing I did to find some really cool relics was to research areas for the possibility of good finds and I focused on old homesites. That’s where I found my first Silver coin and also a silver earring. Network with people you know, that’s how I got most of my permissions. Co-workers, relatives, friends.
@@Cathy16011 Just take your time and have fun finding no matter what it is. It will get frustrating when you are learning. Hang in there just enjoy the time you have out side. Also dig it all at first so you know what it is all about.

Iv been detecting for 12 years and you’re 100% right. Some detectors are better in certain areas but at the end of the day they all beep.
That's right, certain ones may be better for where you are, if you hunt beaches a lot, etc. I appreciate you watching!

@@dcmdetects yes it does. I've only found one 1938 merc and a war nickle in 5 months. I'm sure I'll I find silver if I walk over it.
