The dragon boss fight against Hooktail in his castle is the first time you might be up against a real battle challenge in the game. He's pretty impenetrable if you don't have the frog noise that you get thanks to the Sound FX G badge. You pick this up earlier in Hooktail's Castle and you can't get to the dragon boss fight without the paper Mario move, so you might already have it and just need to apply it in the Badges section.
