Hi Zoe! How are you doing😌?
Can you post a WHAT I EAT IN A Week like you used to!? Watching that really made me understand the value of food and have a healthy relationship with it. Even if you don't I just want to thank you for those videos and giving such information and reality check in this video. I'm TRULY GREATFUL ❤❤!! Have a nice day and keep up THE EXCELLENT work 😊
( Incase you are wondering what i edited was a few writing mistakes)
If you're diet is Low -carb, you won't need to count calories. So yeah, I don't care about calories what I am worried about is the carbs/sugar I intake. Makes me break-out so much!
Actually calories are why my wife has ED so no. I don't give a shit. I have chronic stomach problems so I never get enough, I have to just focus on getting enough nutrition in general.
@@samzbeautystudio6768 You completely missed her point didn't you?
talk about how BMI equations are actually for white people and originally designed for men in the military.
Non-white women especially Asians aren't told they're overweight during pregnancy causing bad outcomes because the BMI equation applied is for whites.
Just a quick note: the scene with Rachel from Friends, she ordered only a salad because that's all she could afford in the restaurant. Had nothing to do with calories.
😂awwwww
Yeah I remember that
Relatable queen 👑
It's an interesting reflection of the salad that the actress was known for eating on set to maintain that frame though
@@natatatm ahhhh good point
calorie counting doesn’t have to be restrictive. when I was bulking to gain more muscle, I counted calories to make sure I was eating enough. calorie counting is a tool, and like any tool it can be used to fuel bad habits. however, blaming the concept of calorie counting shifts attention from the underlying issue. calories and counting them aren’t bad. calories are energy.
EXACTLY! I'm also trying really hard to make sure I'm getting enough potassium because I'm deficient in it, literally almost been hospitalized. It's genuinely kinda hard to get potassium if you're not looking for it, but now once or twice a week I have to have a baked potato so I don't die.
same!!! i struggle to eat enough food because I have a habit of ignoring my hunger so tracking what i am eating helps me keep track of how much I've actually eaten (which is usually too little) so i can gauge my progress throughout the day. Calorie counting for someone who's bulking is such a useful tool and it's how I got to the healthy weight range and stabilized my hormones. I hate when people are shocked that I track my food because they only think of it as restricting. Calorie counting for me is hitting a target minimum, not avoiding a maximum. People can't empathize!!! They always tell me to just "eat a lot" as if I didn't think I was when i was skinnier. I had "big meals" that felt big to me but over a day, i didn't eat enough in total. People are very ignorant!!! "Don't track just eat more" shut up!!!!
@@elisethearmy6451 yeah exactly! And it is important what you're eating too, even if you wanna bulk like, you still wanna make sure you're eating substantive stuff with nutrients not just Oreos and fried food. You COULD DO THAT sometimes. I had a chocolate chip pancake today as a treat! But I wouldn't physically feel great if I only ate junk either, and it wouldn't be sustainable either.
@@snailart9214 so true!!! i just had a Box Combo from Raising Cane's. was this a ton of calories?? yes which is good! do i feel great right now?? kind of! how long did that take me? 1 hour! honestly people who say "just eat burgers" don't understand that it's easier said than done, especially if someone doesn't want to eat fried food or junk meals every day
I just did the same for when I start working my job full time! It is an outdoor, labor intensive job so I need way more calories, protein, and water during the summer vs when I am less active during school. I find I also calorie count because I don't eat enough.
As a dietitian I loved this video! Just one small note, the idea of diet drinks/zero calorie sweeteners increasing cravings/driving you to eat more has been debunked. Spot on about food marketing/the health "halo" though. I highly recommend reading "Burn" by Herman Pontzer and "The Hungry Brain" by Stephan Guyenet. These really go into the science behind obesity/metabolism!
The correlation is still there, but theories behind a singular causative factor haven’t exactly been supported. As with most things, I’m guessing it’s a combination of multiple factors
@@lunar686 Yes, and we often forget the importance of psychology in this, although it is an important factor
you may not eat more but its the fact that the brain is being tricked in the first place you're better off having something with sugar because you'll indulge less
@@lunar686 Yes! There is some animal/observational studies showing a link but RCTs seem to show they don’t affect cravings/hunger for most
Thank u I cannot stand when people say that 😂 like are we drinking the same thing?!
Without counting calories, I would have absolutely no idea if I ate too much or not enough. Counting really helped me to get a grasp on how many calories food actually has. I also lost 13kg so yay 😅
Same here
For sure! I eat out a lot, not by choice but I don't have an oven or stove in my studio apartment. A lot of takeaway isn't necessarily unhealthy but it can have wayyy more oil or carbs, which is fine but I need to moderate it. I think it comes down to not demonizing food groups, like everything in moderation is okay. I gotta track though because if I didn't I'd have NO CLUE how much I was eating. When I used to live at home it was a lot easier to eat intuitively because it was all home cooked meals.
same here it helpes me loose weight when i was overeating and now helps me make sure that i eat enough! if you use them in a healthy way they can be helpful!
yes using calorie counting app (that also counts protein, fats and carbs) has somewhat helped me with my disorted eating. I used to be so scared of food to the point i wasnt eating, because i had no idea how much and what i was eating and then that starving resulted in binge eating which ended up being an endless loop. It has made me more conscious of what i am eating and how much, which helps me to not be afraid of eating, and also helps me to be mindful of eating meals that both satisfy me and keep me feeling full. Even tho i still sometimes "slip" and go back to my old habits of disorted eating for a while, this still has helped me alot
yes! when i first started losing weight i was very very meticulous about counting my calories but i dont count them anymore because i have a good grasp on what is a perfect portion size for me. the only time when i start gaining weight again is if i started eating out too much lol
I noticed on the TikTok video that you showed that the two girls ate the same was actually false. They didn’t eat the same. The other girl said it herself one was vegetarian, and the other was not.
lol just another piece of misinfo in her video
@@expensivepink7haters be hating. Smh
@@javedadami2089 who’s hating
@@expensivepink7 I interpreted the comment wrong. 🤷♀️
those 2 girls eating the same amount of food is delusional. Starving kids in africa arent skinny beause they're bad at processing calories.
Counting calories helps me stay healthy, not skinny.
I have a genetically high ghrelin and binge eating disorder. Double win! My whole family has a high BMI, some of them have health problems or eating disorders.
When you have high ghrelin, you don't feel full until your stomach hurts from eating too much. I can eat a whole pizza and still feel hungry. And when you have binge eating disorder, you have a strong mental connection between food and your emotional state. I visit CBT and endocrinologist by the way. This is not self-diagnosis.
Intuitive eating only works for healthy people. And high ghrelin is not an exotic diagnosis, a huge number of people have it. The same goes for binge eating disorder.
Just because people on tiktok use calorie counting to hurt themselves doesn't mean calorie counting is evil for everyone.
Exactly, I'm genetically predisposed to reduced fat satiety so it is *incredibly* easy for me to overeat things that others would find obscenely rich. And I have an ironclad digestive system so I don't feel any negative impacts from that behavior. Caloric awareness is critical for me to maintain a healthy weight.
it is great to hear you have control over your health!
I use to binge eat and counting calories honestly saved me. I was eating all day everyday and for a period of 3 years I gained between 15 to 20kg every year and I was so miserable, it had to stop. I first started eating at maintenance. Did that for about a year and then I cut 300, lost 10kg and cut 100 more, etc. I'm still not at the weight that is healthy for my height and I am almost 180cm tall (6 foot). I now eat at 2000 calories and exercise 3-4 times a week. I eat whatever I want to. For about a week I survived off of toast and butter because that was what I craved lol. Didn't keep me full but kept me happy. I eat a lot more balanced now and I feel better than ever. Calorie counting is a good tool if you use it properly and I really hate how people just associate it with these extreme dieters and an eating disorder. It can help as well.
completely agree
YES EXACTLY. calorie counting isn’t inherently disordered and is honestly a really helpful and stress-relieving tool when used properly. it’s annoying how people will demonize calorie counting and then promote other things like macro counting as if that can’t become obsessive as well.
How did you increase the calories back and maintain it?
What type of exercise and for how long
Did you get therapy during time? Because if you didn't please do. It's necessary to help avoid relapse.
I just wanna pop on here and say that calorie counting DOES work for some of people. I understand that for many it can create a negative mind space, and if that's you then obviously don't do it, but being in a (SLIGHT!) calorie defect is how you lose weight, it's just that simple. Obviously, what types of calories you're eating also plays a huge huge roll, but calorie counting really helps me personally (like you were saying about everyone's health being different) and it makes me a little sad to see people think that even counting calories in a healthy way means you have some kind of disorder or something, y'know? I love sweet potatoes and arugula and chicken and quinoa and salmon AND indulging in a slice of chocolate cake sometimes. And, I do this all while counting calories. It's not always a bad thing, just depends on the person.
i agree! calorie counting saved me from binge eating that was ruining my life!! i didnt watch the vid yet but if it's just her being like "dont count calories because it'll give u an ed" i dont know if it's a good idea for me to watch it rn...
big agree!! I struggle with massive binge eating problem and it helps me stay sane and not overeat to the point of self hatred
It's not as simple as "it works for some people" and "don't do that". The cultural norm of comments on others bodies, caloric intake etc have massively contributed to my wife having an eating disorder and the calorie counting is a trigger. These things should only be between a patient and their doctor, not between strangers online. Zoe's point remains salient.
@@sleepysartorialist As I said, it depends on the person. I'm simply focused on myself and working towards being the best version of myself I can be, which for me means counting calories. I'm sorry that our culture has caused your wife to suffer, and I'm wishing her the best.
@@sleepysartorialist Umm no
Heey Zoë, I've been watching your videos for a while and I'm really enjoying it. I do want to give some feedback tho, I would appreciate it if you were to use sources when you present certain information as fact. And if I'm correct you are not a dietitian/nutrition specialist, I think it would be good to give that disclaimer. I like the video, and think most of it is correct, but it's always better to cite sources to support your claims :)
THANK UUUUU
Thankfully I haven’t really cared about calories specifically. I know I need to eat healthier in general, but I don’t need that extra stress in my life. I already have to penny pinch. I don’t need extra numbers in my brain 😭
Lol there’s a theory called ‘cognitive load’, basically there’s a limit on how much everyone’s brains can process information, particularly if we dont have a baseline framework to attach incoming info to. We do, after all, live in a world with more incoming info than ever before lol so don’t feel bad about your brain hating all the extra numbers lol
plus it’s hard to eat good when you have limited money
Better to just do what they do for hospital meals. Most of the meal is the staple of the country (bread, pasta, rice, etc.) for carbohydrates, two pieces of lean meat (often chicken breast or fish or even grilled meat kebabs) or beans for protein, a section of stewed vegetables, a fresh fruit or unsweetened fruit juice, a box of milk or yogurt, etc. Often a salad on the side. Try to cover your bases and eat balanced meals, so you aren't deficient. Hospital meals often do include breaded and fried chicken or fish [again, always just two pieces], or even a slice of lasagna, we just don't have it every day or every meal. All things in moderation. ^^
I'm anorexic for a long time now and counting calories became a natural habit for me. I absolutely can't enjoy food anymore and I'm absolutely terrified of eating outside or generally complete meals so I almost only eat instant foods or things I can easy count. It's rly exhausting to always think about cool fancy dishes and then realize that I can't eat it because I have no idea how many calories are in it. I'm not always starving I also tend to binge but still I have at least to know how many calories the foods have I'm eating otherwise I'm freaking out about it
Same.
omg same,. and that's the reason why I lost that game and just gained much more weight. I hate myself
I’ve been there before, and it was a horrible way to live. Please seek out a therapist if you can, preferably one who specializes in eating disorders. Mine is a success story due to therapy; I owe my peace of mind to my therapist and all the work he helped me do to recover. An ED is a special kind of hell, but there is a life worth living on the other side. I believe in you ❤
My parents say that I'm starving, but I feel like I'm eating so much😭
@@taylormfinney congrats, I'm glad to hear you're better :3.
I went to many therapist already also was hospitalized in a clinic for half a year specialized on ED but it all didn't worked for me, I would even say it's worse now then back then. Atm I'm just living with it cause that's what I've been doing for a while now, I'm just tired of therapy
Calories aren't limited just to wl 💀💀 some of us need to watch our calories because of medical disorders as well. Moreover your viewers aren't hitting gym for 2 hrs every day , therefore if you don't move around that much you should watch your calorie intake. Saves you from health complications in long run!
I can’t understand why people can’t seem to flip a bag, box, or container over to check ingredients. So much confusion can be avoided by just reading the fine print
If it has a box with ingredients it’s not healthy. If it isn’t real food it’s not healthy. It’s just less bad than the box next to it.
@@faychel8383 I physically face palmed when I read this. With your mentality rice cakes aren’t “healthy” (brown rice, salt) applesauce isn’t “healthy” (apples, lemon extract to prevent browning) peanut butter isn’t “healthy” (peanuts, oil to prevent separation, salt) just to name a few off the top of my head. Ingredients aren’t always bad, yeah one applesauce may have apples, sugar, lemon oil, and salt it the one right next to it could have apples and lemon extract.
Anyways, what’s it like living in the 1920’s?
@@Morphwastaken do rice cakes come in a box? Or a bag like bread? Do fruits come in a box? Or a bag with holes? Does peanut butter come in a jar like pickles? Or a box? Does applesauce come in a box? Or a jarred container?
I only said box, stupid.
@@faychel8383 the pleasure is all mine dumbass, and yes rice cakes do come in a box.
@@faychel8383 This makes no sense. A box, a bag,a jar .. whatever you wanna define the encasing as, if it's sold in a store it's pretty much required to have a label with the caloric content on it.
It's easy and pretty darn fast to find how many calories are in anything we consume.
I have binge eating disorder and if I DON'T count calories I often lose control and eat until I'm curled up in a ball on my bed crying because my stomach hurts so bad from overeating. I swear you people who think calorie counting is the devil NEVER think about us with binge eating disorder.

so true thank you for this comment. i relate sadly. we can get out of this 💪
Agreed! Calorie counting is so helpful to me too. All things in moderation
Facts 🤍
ruclips.net/video/rZZu7oLPQOQ/видео.html
Counting calories has been giving me so much stress. I was constantly worried how to count them especially since I liked to home cook. So I just tried cutting off desserts and eat fruits instead and it helped me alot already
I used to be obese as a kid and my twenties. Started eating 1,200 a day, walked 8,000 steps a day, and drank zero calorie drinks (like green tea WITH zero calorie creamer and Diet Coke) and lost 80lbs. My maintenance calories are now 2,250 a day. I don’t believe that zero calorie foods make your body ‘go crazy’ and cause you to crave more foods. This sounds like it was based off of a couple of studies and theories 😅
I believe it's true that they might make you crave more foods, but that doesn't always mean you're gonna eat those extra foods
how big are you now and how tall can I ask? bc 2.5 seems like a lot of calories unless you have a super active lifestyle! low fat/low cal food can be detrimental in long run as its full of shit ingredients that on the surface are all these bonuses but fuck you up long term. maybe its a culture thing? I think diet/lite versions are eaten a lot less in UK and certainly France where half my family from, and indulging occasionally in full fat versions is healthier than every day diet version imo. not at YOU specifically now, but I think there also needs to be an awareness/shift from "needing" that shit, just save it for the weekend and actually be healthy in food choices not just cop out and eat diet versions of junk food.
Did u go to gym?
Damn bro you exercise for half a day??
@@paperglu6640 didn't say in what timeframe he lost the weight and what was his starting weight
These low sugar, low fat, and low calorie options is what helps a lot of people to enjoy their favorite foods while maintaining calorie deficit.
There is no way that breakfast is 1000. Calories unless that French toast was deep fried in lard and she’s having an ice cream shake with it.
Echoing what others have said here, I conquered obesity through a caloric deficit, but also improving my relationship with food. I worked with dietitians and my doctor. I work out 5-6 days a week now and regularly eat carbs and fats. I still eat ice cream and cookies and things too. Balance of nutrients and moderation were the key. It's not a very sexy solution and it takes a lot of time (took me 2 years), but it's so worth it.
Edit: Still continuing to lose weight to lean out now with a goal of building more muscle. I've cut down my workouts to 2 light cardio sessions per week, and high intensity weightlifting every 4-7 days. I'm way stronger now and it feels great to look good in clothes.
Misinformation, misinformation, misinformation, misinformation, misinformation, misinformation.
I’m autistic and struggle with eating foods and recognizing hunger. I recently learned that I have been badly undereating and it’s been contributing to me maintaining an unhealthy weight (overweight). Also, I like to work out a lot, but I don’t have the energy if I’m practically barely getting enough calories to be burning all that energy. There are definitely certain circumstances to count your calories and that’s okay. Just always be aware of any consequence’s and try to prevent it!
That "artificial sweetener causes you to consume more calories elsewhere" argument has been debunked... Both Layne Norton and Greg Doucette have discussed this citing the scientific evidence/studies.
was looking for this comment 👍
there is SO much misinformation in this video it is genuinely disturbing to me she is spreading this and has not removed this/corrected this BS. despite so many ppl pointing this out .
@@expensivepink7 literally
I’m actually trying to lose weight rn and sure this video has some good points but it has been literally proven that the less calories you intake will make you lose weight no matter what, which is why high protein meals are so important to keep the muscle so your metabolism stays high
The girl has a channel full of obvious eating disorder content. Nobody should be taking her advice
Well yeah the type of calorie you're consuming is important too, but caloric amount is the only way to quantify intake and be positive you'll lose weight.
yupppp
As someone in semi recovery of anorexia and bulimia I need to count calories or else I'd either not eat at all or demolish every single food item I can get my hands on and well bulimia, so get rid of it. This causes me to lose weight faster than anything and I'd end up in hospital (again) probably due to electrolyte imbalances, which I have almost died from several times.
Might sound exaggerated, but calorie counting saves me and keeps me at a functional, healthy weight and mental place.
Conclusion: For some people calorie counting is a life saver. Especially for some (!!!) people with EDs it can give reassurance that the "right" amount of food is eaten, since many of us lose the intuitive feeling of how much should be eaten
Just read that book yesterday. Such an insane story! You’re so right the eating disorders condoned in our culture is sooooooo invasive no matter how much you know about the truth of “calories”
i struggle with binge ed, so i overeat, more often than not. then i feel sick at the end of the day and bloated the next😩
honestly calorie counting is something that helped me a bunch when it comes to being mindful how much food i consume in a day…
people pointing out how it’s “obsessive behavior” have no idea what it’s like.… it’s much easier for me to pull out my kitchen scale and take like 5 minutes out of the day to put the info in the app🤷🏼♀️
Ok we can't really demonize 1200 calorie days foe some people. I've had gastric bypass, and was medically informed by a medical team (dieticians, nutritionists, surgeons, General practitioners, etc) that the goal is 1200. Period.
Yeah, when you're prepping for a surgery or trying to lose weight rapidly. Of course it does depend on the person, but in most cases a goal of 1200 calories without medical reasoning or supervision is extremely unhealthy.
@@okbutwhy2506 no it’s not. As long as you are getting enough nutrients 1200 is plenty. Atleast for petite people.
1:32 for anyone thinking this is a good example, this example is not right because the comparison is not right at all. This girls have a BIG difference in their diet: the slim one is vegetarian and the other one is not (I’ve seen the whole video). In fact, a non-weighted portion of flesh (let’s say 1/3 of a plate) is way more caloric and fatty than the same visual amount of any plant based protein. Plus we don’t know for how long the skinny girl has been working out, maybe now they workout the same but who knows for how long… It’s just not realistic. Anyways, the point of the video was overall right.
Shuhua from the group (g)i-dle was once talking about what she eats on the daily and what i really like was that she was making it very clear that people shouldn't try to eat like her cuz this diet was made especially for her, by professionals to satisfy her needs. Bcuz every body is different.
hey! that scene with rachel was about her not being able to afford anything in the restaurant. nothing to do with calories! loved the video❤
this is the second vid i’ve watched by this youtuber bc it was recommended, and in both vids she spread misinformation and said things as if they are facts when they’re not. ngl if you’re making content like this your research/presentation should be pristine. also, include your sources.
boohoo
I agree, anything related to health should be fully factual because people are easily mislead. In fashion it doesn't matter but with nutrition, misinformation can be extremely harmful
What was the misinformation? @steviee.4918
well first of all, she’s presenting this as if calories don’t matter when in reality eating excess calories will make you gain weight while lowering them will help you lose it- she makes it sound as if that’s not true. she also presents info on 0 calorie foods that is completely untrue, she’s basically saying that 0 cal foods make you more hungry and that is incorrect. i can’t remember what the other video i watched from her was about but i remember her being misleading in that one too. i just don’t think she really fact checks her sources and she presents her opinions as if they are facts. she is not a doctor or dietitian yet she doesn’t make that disclaimer and spreads health information that isn’t accurate.
@@sirielliril4848That zero calorie doesn't mean zero calorie and makes you more hungry and this whole segment of the video, that you will absorb different amoubt of calories per Person and that the calories isn't everything, like yea macros matter if you eat all of your maintainance with Fat instead of Protein an Carbs yea there is a difference in health but you will still loose weight. Also that metabolism changes you body to be predestined to get fat, metabolism can only change about max. 200 kcal difference in your calorie needs
In 1998 i went to us and for the first time in my life i saw a FAT FREE OIL in a shop! As an Italian who lives on extra vergin olive oil, i was horrified thinking of WHAT THE HECK WAS IN THERE??! Oil is pure fat. Then in one month i found so many other food monstrousities...i could believe my eyes 😮
Hey Zoey, the absorption of calories is really the absorption of carbs based off fiber intake in said food. There is soluble and insoluble fiber that effects how carbs are absorbed in digestion. I’m type one diabetic and have to count every single carb I eat to take insulin and stay alive everyday. I take less insulin for a high fiber meals then I would for a low fiber meal with the same amount of carbs (for example a meal of beans and quinoa with veggies vs pasta). While calories in calories out matter I’d argue people who eat a high carb (which converts to glucose during digestion) diet with little fiber intake are going to struggle with weight loss more then a person who consumes a high protein high fiber diet with the same calorie count at the end of the day.
Edit: also fun fact teens and young adults with type one diabetes are more likely to develop eating disorders then people without the disease. I can’t not count carbs ever and constantly have to focus on food and it’s been my whole life.
You're an absolute bad arse for all the work you put into your health. I've been educating myself on type 1 and you guys honestly put so much work into staying alive and well . Hope this doesn't sound condescending btw.
@@romysv thank you! A lot of people downplay the struggles of having type one diabetes, it’s refreshing to have someone acknowledge it can be hard.

no offence, but feels like you're sort of putting the same content over and over just repurposed in different ways. Yeah… this girl says she’s so not into diet culture but she is so into diet culture.
you're taking your own experience with calorie counting and saying that it's bad because it didn't work for you.
calorie counting saved me from an eating disorder (which had periods of both binging and restriction). now it helps me to build muscles.
there's also some serious misinformation in this vid, like about artificial sweeteners or 'calories being consumed differently by each individual' like we can break the rules of thermodynamics. I'd consider taking it down - it's that bad
I feel like this is gonna do more harm than help... being in a calorie deficit is why you will lose weight or not. Point blank period. Yes the quality of those calories is very important but thermodynamics works the same for every body that doesn't have underlying health issues. I am really glad we moved away from the "No carbs after 6pm" bs and simplified it as much as possible. That is what works for most people I don't know why you are convolution it again with "every body is different Yada Yada Yada" if you don't have underlying health issues a calorie deficit will work for you. I usually love your videos but this one seemed really the opposite of beneficial to me.
I like her videos but this one was not well thought out.
yeah her vids are usually top tier, but this one’s off the mark.
I think the part about that zero calories often dont mean zero calories or that you will eat more after this were rly important
The low calorie ice creams and candy and bread as well as fat free items all helped me lose 86 pounds and now I’ve been maintaining successfully so far and I don’t feel hungry so I’m a little confused
Agreed
Imo counting calories is only bad/harmful if you're underweight but if you're overweight calorie counting is actually good for your health
Counting calories can be good for someone who is underweight and they are trying to gain weight by eating healthy
Suffering so much trying to retain weight, counting helped for a whole month but if I get lazy w my food I loose it all very quickly and I get so depressed man
Starting to count calories was the best decision I ever made body wise. I was underweight my whole life and really struggled to gain any weight even tho I ate really much. When I started counting calories I figured out I only ate 1300 kcal a day. The recommended amount for my height, size and age was 1800 kcal. So I ate really much food every day but this food was really low in calories so I didn't gain any weight. When I changed that I suddenly started to gain weight and after 2 months I finally wasn't underweight anymore and reached my ideal weight 2 years later. Now knowing how much I need to eat and having a feeling for what has how many calories I don't have any problems staying at my ideal weight and I just love it.
@11:40 Eggs and toast aren't 1,013 calories like ever. 2 eggs are 140 ish, 2 white bread slices are about 180 ish, one cup of Grapes are under 100 and the amount of butter spread in the toast and cook the eggs certainly doesn't have a massive impact, and her bacon wouldn't exceed 150. So there's no way it's possible for her meal to be that many calories unless whatever in the cup is a super high calorie meal replacement or protein drink.
As someone who has struggled a lot with calories, thank you for approaching it in such a respectful way. Sending you love and hugs from Greece.
counting calories made me have a bad relationship w food
same for me. I always look at the number and never on the real food... this is so unhealthy but idk how else to deal with losing weight...
@@alinag4545 I’d try going to a counselor. I find that it helps me have a healthier mindset and be able to take better care of myself when I speak to my counselor. Maybe a counselor can help you figure out how to diet and care for your body without stressing yourself out. 😊
I'm looking forward to Thursdays now because you upload these videos!
I've fought the Boom and Bust of "low calorie" my whole life. Not personally, but always looking at labels and knowing even if I'm getting 50% of regular, I will still compensate by eating 2x as much.
Now I just get what I know I want, and be mindful of when "I got what I wanted", not to overdo it, especially with sweets and junk food.
CICO because the human body cannot defy the laws of thermodynamics. Yes, there is nuance to nutrition when it comes to health but in terms of body mass it is a very simple equation.
She went to the starvation mode myth, ugh.
elaborate please, what do you mean?
Losing interest in her channel with every bit of unsubstantiated, debunked nonsense she's been throwing into her videos, tbh. Guess it trends well with the TikTok crowd.
@@strawberryinsomnia9188why is she doing nutrition vids? Is she an expert in any way
she discovered the gym and thinks she's above any concept of diet. she's literally just burning cals at the gym, simple as.
@@awdatzya It's a myth, simple as that. It's why you don't see obese people in the starving countries in Africa or other places of the world. Yes, you can be an obese person and literally starve to death if you don't have food but no, you can't just be on a low cal diet and not lose weight cause you're "eating too little".
If I don’t count calories, I’ll blow up. But I also try to limit processed foods for other aspects of health. I just can’t trust myself to eat intuitively. I would NOT look like you if I stopped counting calories. I can’t wait until technology progresses to the extent that we can measure calories in restaurants that don’t list calories and to measure how many calories our specific body absorbs from each food. For reference, I’m a 5’3 woman and I eat 1200 cal/day. I try to limit sugar and I do my best to eat adequate protein, healthy fats, and moderate carbs. And yes we do need fats. I eat a lot of Avocado. And obviously you should count your TOTAL calories for the day instead of eating reduced calorie snacks with reckless abandon.
hey, are you okay?
@@solli2330 what is wrong with what they said? Some people count calories to keep their weight in check and there’s nothing wrong with it if it works for them.
@@ashlee7831 For real I’m tired of people asking if I’m okay
I really dislike when really thin influencers push the "just eat intuitively~~~~" bit on everyone, even specifically people who are actually trying to count calories and make a change.
With 100% honesty I ate pretty damn intuitively and got myself to 200lbs. There's nothing inherently wrong with being mindful of the calories you consume. I simply see it as budgeting, sometimes I splurge and sometimes I hold back on things I recognize as needless expenses.
And I truly hate the talk about everyone having their own shape. Sure enough height and bone structure as well as the genetic influence of where exactly fat deposits first, will determine a general shape but body at 130lbs is as much my own as that which I had at 200lbs. I wasn't genetically meant to be 200lbs, I just have ADHD, poor impulse control and liked to emotionally soothe myself with food. No magic slow OR fast metabolism to see anywhere.
i’ve struggled with a binge restrict cycle before and sometimes it felt like i just ate because i was bored and not because i was hungry. then i’d obsess over low calorie foods and i think that food can be made to be craved
I was really struggling with wanting to go back to my destructive restrictive eating path and for some reason this video helped me ❤ love your content zoe

You forgot to mention that actually calories DO matter, now of course we are all different and some foods will affect someone different than someone else. And it’s not a good idea to starve yourself whit only 1200 calories a day. but still if you eat more than you need you gain weight, if you eat less, you lose weight. As simple as that. And for the sisters who allegedly eat ‘exactly the same’. Maybe it’s because one sister is taller than the other that she is skinnier.
Yes and for the sisters if they both started off with one being skinnier than the other of course the difference will stay the same.
For the sisters it's as obvious as their starting point. Say the bigger sister started off at 200 pounds and the smaller one at 120 points. Obviously in 5 months, even if they're eating the exact same they're going to look completely different. I have no clue why that's so hard for people to understand
@@amandai.1334 For the sister's it was their diets. One was vegetarian the other wasn't. That is a HUGE difference.
For the sisters who "ate the same diet", one sister was vegetarian and the other was not. So that could also be why.

Some of you guys just think of yourselves. bruh i started binge eating cuz of stress (exams n shit)when i didnt even know what calories were exactly and counting calories helped me stop binge eating. so dont just apply ur scenario in every case. weight loss is simple.calories in and calories out. if u obsess over things then ANYTHING is problematic.know how to control urself but also be free. have the balance and dont try to make it perfect cuz ntg is it really is simple. at this point there will be disorders for everything bcuz ppl constantly try to find immediate satisfaction and have no patience which makes them obsess over literally anything. just try to control urself
I‘m 16 and recovering from bulimia, a year and a half ago there Started to be a lot of calorie talk etc. in my environment not only family but also school. Eventually it got to me and I started counting calories until it became an obsession, and obsession fed my the feeling of control. My life was all over the place and even after I lost a lot of weight I felt miserable, I didn’t control shit I was being controlled by my ed. It's almost like if you're a healthy weight you don't need to obsess over your calories . . . ? At a time where overweight/obese bodies outnumber healthy bodies I don't think discounting calorie counting is the most intelligent argument to make 😂 Sorry to say Zoe, but you're talking about something you yourself don't need, and so as a thicker girl who needs to calorie count to be anywhere close to healthy I feel I must say: we're not using calorie counting to starve, as you're suggesting. If people were, we wouldn't have an obesity epidemic. There's a strange skinny girl obsession with being rail thin, that's not calorie counting's fault, that's a personal self image issue.
THIS
This and even when she mentioned how she got her own health and metabolism journey I mean she was already simply skinny fat
ok so the justification of not turning to low calorie food is that it'll make you hungrier.
so what? why does being hungry mean you have to eat high calorie foods to compensate. you could simply not do that.
the "information" she is referring to in this video regarding this point has also been repeatedly debunked, it is not even true. this video is harmful af with all its misinfo and not a peep out of her about it despite so many people pointing it out.
and seriously. ppl don't need to binge everytime they're hungry. if they do, they should get help for BED.
@@expensivepink7 ok uh, i think for diets in general there's a lot of variation in what people think are the right and wrong ways. there's plenty of people in every corner with their own peer-reviewed studies to back themselves up.
i just think her argument isn't logical in the first place. like why do we think hunger should = eating?
@@RapidObsessor no like the whole diet soda makes u hungrier thing is provably false i meant lolllll i think we agree.... idk lol. the study she's referring to is no longer accepted as scientific consensus
Calorie counting works
I don't have a math brain at all so calorie counting always intimated me. These videos are inspiring, if for anything for my mindset. I legitimately feel excited to work out, to eat whole foods, and I've already had so much fun doing it. Being excited about the right things, instead of restricting yourself and cutting things out of your life is legitimately helping. I'm now extremely excited to be healthy, rather than agonizing over weight and calories and feeling guilt over my stress-binges. I'm so excited for the journey ahead, no matter how long it may be, and I really hope the enthusiasm stays
I feel like these videos should have a disclaimer that just cause something isn't the be all and end all of health, doesn't mean it has no value at all 🤔
So well done and said. Thank you for this video!
I believe in a ton of calorie myths and it’s easy to say that I can’t stop believing in them even when I’m not well and better yet it’s hard to accept the weight, shape and appearance that I am like for some people 75 kg isn’t that high and some people think it’s high even though I’m 5ft 8 inch tall life gets difficult when you’re a person with that metabolism that makes you change weight and size based on what you eat .
While the sentiment in the video is good and mostly factual there is a large chunk of perspective missing. Sure dieting and calorie counting can do more harm than good mentally and physically if you are in the average (or below) weight spectrum but it is an important tool for many. ex. obese people. The standard American diet is excessive in calories and lacks essential macro and micronutrients and we see the results with 40% of US adults being obese, and that is not an issue of aesthetics but an issue of health. Diet culture is bullshit, weight loss shouldn't be about aesthetics, I would even argue that its lifestyle changes one should strive for not dieting (but that is more of a semantic argument). Still, calories in themselves aren't the devil incarnated.
I will also add for those curious that the 1200 to 1600 cal diets usually come from the misconception of basal metabolic rate. BMR calorie consumption is not the smallest amount of calories to survive in day-to-day life, it's the smallest amount of calories to survive while laying in bed and doing nothing.
I agree with you more than I do with the creator of this video.
I’m so serious when I say, since i started eating enough and no longer starving, my metabolism is going so speedy it’s crazy. It’s true guys

it is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to gain weight without a calorie surplus and physically impossible to lose weight without a calorie deficit. this is upsetting to see im sorry
As far as I know she has no formal qualification, she's just trying to keep her audience happy, and by the number of people here who parrot the same thing and claim the same thing it works pretty well.
People couldn't really believe I was so fat before because I ate slowly and not really bad... in public. Hiding food and eating a whole tub of pringles with sauce was a common thing but I would've rather had the earth open and swallow me up than admit it. There have been many, maaaany trips to the garbage to hide various wrappers that would make it clear to everyone in the house that I was eating whole bars of chocolate and so on.
I've seen no one with the supposed magic metabolism, eating consistently 800kcal and never losing weight. What I do often see is people eating 800 for 3 days, giving up and demolishing a fastfood menu.. or two. Which just balances the energy and we're back to square 1.

You should make a video about height and diet culture, as a girl who's 5' 2, my TDEE is 1300 calories. There are some diet calculators out there that will literally tell me to eat 800 calories to lose weight which is insane.
calorie calculators dont work and are innacurate because they dont consider an individuals specific TD, NEAT, TDEE, BMR, etc, which is different for most. They also factor in physical activity using generalistic descriptions that can't match everyone's lifestyle. the best way to find the calories you should be eating is to record everything you eat normally (no restrictions just intuitive eating) and then average those out and also log your weight throughout the process. if your weight stays the same, those are your maintenance calories and to be in a bulk or a cut is just the matter of adding or subtracting 200-300 calories. 800 calories imo is still insane, but i also have to question how you found your tdee that low 😭 im a similar height to you and the avg amount of calories for me to stay the same weight is about 1850-9000, but you def know yourself better than i do lol
Please don't eat 800 calories a day 💀 I'm 5'2", 120lbs, I maintain my weight at 1500 to 2000 calories a day with moderate exercise (I lift weights and walk 3 to 5 miles on weekdays). Maybe your TDEE is 1300 if you sit all day (no judgement here I work a desk job and sit 8hrs a day). Like the person said above the online calculators are just estimates and it's better to figure out what works best for you by trial and error. Slow and steady is the best way to go.
Is 1350 cal normal for 5 ft gal?

I’ve been recently getting into taking care of myself more, and that includes calorie counting and working out. With the amount of calories that burn every day, I can eat well over 2000 cal everyday and still be in a calorie deficit. I don’t even have to do too much to change my daily routine to get into the calorie deficit, just going to the gym more and working out. I don’t understand the logic of eating so little in a day.
It's because some people *don't* burn that much. I wfh and live a sedentary lifestyle and without dedicated exercise sessions I burn about 1800 calories per day, and I'm 5'9. Shorter women who don't have an active lifestyle or much time to work out are going to need to eat a lot less than 2000 to be in a deficit.

I stopped counting calories a while ago, because my body is very intuitive and tells me if it needs more/less on certain days. villanizing calories makes no sense. objectively, if you eat in a caloric deficit there is no way you are gaining weight (you might have water weight but thats temporary). you say you dont calorie count but intermittent fast...but intermittent fasting is just a way to reduce calories since your eating window shrinks.
