  • A mountain lion has been confirmed dead after it was hit and killed by a vehicle on Friday around 7:25 PM, according to Oceanside Police. However, it is unknown if this is the same mountain lion that caused a stir on social media recently.
The mountain lion was walking along North River Road in a remote area of Oceanside east of Wilshire Road halfway between Fallbrook when it was struck by a vehicle.
Fish and Wildlife responded and took possession of the animal remains. They are working to determine if this is the same mountain lion that was seen outside the Oceanside Civic Center and Regal Cinemas Theater on Thursday night.
CBS 8 spoke with Tim Daly at Fish and Wildlife to ask if it was possible to determine if this is the same animal. He responded by saying without a way to positively identify the animal, it is very difficult if not impossible to confirm this is the same mountain lion. However, Daly did not rule out the possibility of it being the same animal.

Yep , more than people's lives . Use that money to build homeless shelters . Or build a million studio apartments for the homeless. It's funny how the government can always " find " money for everything / everybody, except taxpayers .🙄

I remember long time ago, I was hiking on top of Reseda in Tarzana CA. It is a hiking area around the Santa Monica mountains. I spotted a mountain lion before getting in my car after running 7 miles in the mountains. The cat was staring at me like she had been hunting me for a while because I was careless about my environment but my ignorance saved me I thought she was cute and kept waving at her as if she were a domestic pet. I realized later in life that I had been hunted and never realized it until I got to my car. I don't think I was ever a threat to the cat because I never showed any fear. I was almost attacked by a pack of coyotes because they wanted my dogs, This was another incident in nature by the way, I screamed on top of my longs until I made them go. I wasn't going to let these f coyotes take my dogs without dignity

Mountain lions tend to be much more shy to humans than coyotes. This is partly because coyotes hunt in groups while mountain lions are solitary hunters. Mountain lions are also very stealthy, if you are out in the woods they will watch you from a distance and you might never know they are there. If they are not desperate from hunger they mostly just watch. They have a keen sense of prey they can take without risk of getting hurt, because if they get injured they starve.

@user-dw6dp5yx7b Coyotes are sly. If you have a male dog they will actually do things like sending a female coyote in heat to try to lure it into an ambush.

you don’t need to “make yourself big” if you encounter one. you already look “big” to them, and most of the time they’ll just run away. just stay calm and stay quiet. no need for all that other ridiculous nonsense

I understand the people who are involved with PETA groups and humane society. But an animal like that running around in civil society and people are just supposed to stay calm when they see it. What if it's a young child or a pregnant woman? They are supposed to stay calm and be big? Who ever took out the animal, I would congratulate!!!! You have a big cat like that running around the community and they're supposed to just remain calm?!?!

@@MiMiiViViit hasn't been dry as we've had more wet weather than usual this winter. This is really what happens when people think they're being friendly to nature and feed other wildlife like deers, foxes, etc. Those are prey animals for Mountain Lions, so by luring they're prey closer to humans, you're luring more Mountain Lions closer to humans by extension.
