I think that there are a lot of American Jews that are just as brainwashed as you were. I have a Jewish friend that won't discuss politics with me after I told her that I'd been crying every day, thinking about the Palestinians living in terror 24/7 - I had completely forgotten that she's even Jewish because she doesn't practice the faith. On housing costs, democracy is working just fine. Most voters to local and county seats are done by homeowners, and they do not want lots of new housing watering down the value of there properties via supply and demand. Instead they want exclusionary housing of only single family detached houses on large lots, they don't give a shit about new starter homes. Voter turnout is very small locally, but people like you not voting local means politicians addressing your concerns will lose. On inflation, it's driven by a worldwide supply chain shock and will take several years for markets to adjust. The government doesn't have a magic wand to wave and the private sector screwed up their early response to the pandemic, and never made preparations with a resilient supply chain in case of worldwide shocks. The problem with saying these things at all is that when you say "I support Ukraine" or "I support Palestine" you're not really supporting anybody, saying these things doesn't effect the people suffering at all. This makes me angry and sad. I'm a middle aged American that for years has been oblivious to plight pf the Palestinians but have learned some over the past few years- and a lot since Oct 7th. Voter turnout is very small locally, but people like you not voting local means politicians addressing your concerns will lose.
On inflation, it's driven by a worldwide supply chain shock and will take several years for markets to adjust. The government doesn't have a magic wand to wave and the private sector screwed up their early response to the pandemic, and never made preparations with a resilient supply chain in case of worldwide shocks. The problem with saying these things at all is that when you say "I support Ukraine" or "I support Palestine" you're not really supporting anybody, saying these things doesn't effect the people suffering at all. This makes me angry and sad. I'm a middle aged American that for years has been oblivious to plight pf the Palestinians but have learned some over the past few years- and a lot since Oct 7th. You should learn about the actual history. First of all the Palestinian national movement is a fundamentalist Islamist national movement and not an ethno-national movement. Meaning "Palestinian" is not an ethnicity and there was no Palestinian national consciousness prior to the middle of the 20th century.
Second, in 1947 when the British packed up and left, they handed all their military equipment, tanks, guns , ammo, military bases and infrastructure over to the Islamist armies gathering, knowing full well they planned to genocide the jews in the region, and kick them out of their homes .
In doing so, this same Islamist army either kicked out or convinced thousands of Arab Muslims to leave their homes, telling them that in a few days they could return after all the Jews were gone from the land. By gone they meant dead.
Then this happened again in 1967. And subsequently for decades and decades after.
Context actually matters. Now these individual "Palestinians" might not be guilty of that, or supporting that, who knows. But to frame it as "what the Israelis have been doing to the Palestinians for decades" is a gross mischaracterization of the situation and the history.
