I fired this up yesterday, played arena until I got consistent killing up to the guy with the halberd (?) and the music changes, and then fired up the story mode today to check it out, and yes, found the spiked board in the first room, and then a metal bar in a room shortly after that good exploration fun
I'm not killing any 'zombies' that aren't outright aggro to me - I knw you get XP from combat+kills, but, something told me to leave them alone as much as I can, and I have been, and there are points now where there are lots of them just standing around, and then sometimes they fight each other, so I'm learning calm minds first to chill them out, and, maybe I can undo the terrible necromancer spell some day ?
I am watching this to see if there are things I missed and what I notice is that the zombies are often immediately aggro to you, is this because they remember you killed them before? most of mine are passive, the only ones in the beginning that have been repeatedly aggro (I've deleted the folder a few times to start from scratch) are the woman with the hatchet and a guy in the early 'light bulb room' with the pillars (I think?)
Hey bro, will you do a few runs with Cheat Engine on? you can play as any character in the game, you can even turn Derrin into a beast of your choice. You won't be complaining then, haha.
I just tried the long knife instead of the hatchet for the first time and nooo thank you! definitely prefer the hatchet also, there aren't tooo many places that require the torch, so going 2h has been fun, I prefer that I think for the range (it's also what I trained in the arena with exclusively)

I always use cheat engine just to speed games up, having explored the same halls 500 times tears on my patience xD
Why not go straight to long knife?
It doesn't have as much reach as the hatchet or the sickle, which means I often miss my overheads because I'm so used to their range
