Real story! My father was a translator and carried documents with Prince Philip. Heard 0:33 a conversation between Philip and Elizabeth II. After dinner and after the concert, she quietly said to Philip. I feel like I'm home. I feel like I've returned to myself and it's an amazing feeling. Philip's eyes were wet from these words. Elizabeth loved Russia, and Philip has a lot of Russian blood. My father almost cried. But he didn't show it. There! RIP.
Philip was petulant during the episodes that involved the Russian royal family. Yes, some of his ancestors married into the Russian royal family, but that doesn’t make him Russian. He claim the Dutch/ Greek royal family, however, that family was imported into Greece. He had no Greek ties, since his family was exiled when he was a child. Elizabeth’s grandfather, George VI, knew there was not support for bringing the dictatorial Russian Czar and family to England. He chose to save his throne. Philip was a poor naval officer, who could have been thrown out of England after WWII. He was lucky to have married Elizabeth.
@@ann4312am not sure it was his grandmother, but yes he did have a virtual direct connection to the Tsarina. She was Danish by birth. Whilst Philip was born into the Greek Authoradox church as I understand it he rarely practiced it and spoke no Greek.
On the good side they have used native Russian speakers to voice presidend Boris Yeltsin and the first lady Naina Yeltsina. The voice and manner of the president are very well acted. Thanks for that! Also the spiritual song performed by the Russian choir is well chosen. But keep in mind it would not be used in a Russian Orthodox service. It is spiritual, but civil song.

It's actually not just the British national anthem, but the anthem of European monarchy. Almost every monarchy in the 18th and 19th centuries had that as their an anthem, with the lyrics even being the same, with it just being translated into the local vernacular.
Gosh, why couldn't they just film in Moscow? Some streets are somewhat similar to the streets shown in the film, but some things are way off: the name of the bank is ridiculous, the church is quite off and most importantly: driving of the l e f t side of the road? 😨 Really???
Uh…the Russo-Ukraine war had been going on for a year by the point the show was filming….Netflix wouldn’t want their people arrested for spreading “misinformation” about the “Special Military Operation” or “discredit the Armed Forces” of Russia. Also doesn’t help that since the war started Russian state media has constantly talked about nuking the British Isles, thus the UK and even Irish governments aren’t too fond of the current Putin regime right now.
