It was in the year 2000 that I was inspired to compose a piece, ‘We are the world’ style, bringing together all Christian denominations. My longtime collaborator John ‘The Griot’ Hewlett wrote some awesome lyrics to the music, and we called it ‘We are all God’s Children'. We put together a standout group of leading church vocalists, centered around the phenomenal female group Immanuelle, with which I had the good fortune of working with at the time.
So well received was the song by artistes and audiences alike, we decided to take it further. Collaborating with my great longtime friend, musical genius Dr. Charlie Roberts, we were able to get support and participation from some of Jamaica’s leading Gospel artists, namely Chevelle Franklyn, Junior Tucker, Carlene Davis, and the iconic Judy Mowatt. They came to Antigua for fund-raising concerts, Carlene on two occasions, and this formed the basis for the making of a full length CD and this video.
I had a great time doing this project. I can always remember regularly zipping up to Jamaica for weekends spent in Charlie’s studio working on the various productions. Airport, studio, airport. I lost more than a bit of cash in this project, but it was amply compensated by the joy experienced in the interactions, so obviously exhibited in this video.
So on this 20th anniversary, (where did those years go?) I invite one and all to be a part of the God’s Children project. You don’t have to fill any forms or pay any fees. Just resolve that as persons of faith, of any type, we are ALL God’s children, and remember ’No matter what, or when or where we worship, He loves each and every one the same.’
