    I love it when I get a free lesson in geography on this channel! 🌏☺👍 Very well researched, Andre...appreciate the hard work you've spent in researching this topic. ❤ I cannot receive anything from the Australian continent other than Reach Beyond Australia. If it's any consolation a week ago for the first time I managed to tune in to HK Volmet albeit faintly.
    The Australian continent in fascinating. We were taught geography in school, but the text books didn't explain in a simple manner why the central part of Australia is dry and arid.🤔

      Thank you! I was very curious about these stations myself. And I always tell myself, if I am curious, I am sure someone else is also curious :-) I enjoy finding out a bit about the signals I catch. I agree with you that Australia is a fascinating country and continent, it is so arid in place, and so vast. I think it must be a wonderful place to travel to, personally I enjoy isolated and out-of-reach kind of places a lot. I would live to see the Australian Outback! Our neighbour, Namibia, is a bit like that, arid, has some of the tallest sand dunes in the world, with vast distances between the towns. There aren't even any really big cities, only the capital city is biggish. In place you can drive for 200km without seeing anyone else. I love that!
      Glad to hear you got Hong Kong Volmet! Now VMW and VMC are the next challenges :-)

    When I was much younger I used to remember receiving the signal from VNG at 12000 kHz even. Especially after 0600 here in North America. I may have to try this.

      It seems to me as if this signal can be heard quite far away, a viewer in Finland said he hears it there. It will be very interesting for me to know if you can also hear it there in the USA, please do let me know if you do.

    Andre Nice catch from a weather station from “Down Under “….Kenwood is definitely easier to understand, but you can’t put it in a carry bag….unless you are a giant….😂! Although I like SSB voice transmissions, I type too slow to keep up with the different lat/longs…therefore, I prefer the NAVTEX/RTTY broadcasts if I were a mariner.
    73! Have a great day!

      Thanks! Yes, I think NAVTEX and even faxes are probably easier to receive and use when you are at sea. I know there are a few apps (but not free) that you can use for HF weather faxes, I have seen someone on RUclips who receives weather faxes and he uses an app to show the actual images. That looks like a lot of fun to me!

    Nice catch there, I can get these too on various frequencies. They certainly reach far out into the world, very effective transmitter sites despite being far inland!

    • @swlistening
      @swlistening  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks Matt, yes, it does seem to travel quite far. I suppose they need to use some quite strong transmitters to reach all those coastal areas around Australia. Very interesting that it travels all the way to Finland! Do you hear maritime weather from places around Europe, like Romania maybe? And Norway? I have been trying for Romania, but no luck yet.

      @@swlistening I will try and listen out for more. Today I set up a 15m wire but was struggling as it’s -25.C and I have to use the little cabin in the garden. The rfi here is from the solar panel converter. It’s so bad it’s all but ruined any radio use inside or around the house. What’s the frequency of the Romanian station?

    • @swlistening
      @swlistening  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@arcticradio I can only imagine what it must feel like to put up an antenna outside when it is -25 C!
      The Romanian one, from Constanta, is meant to be on 4399 and 6507 kHz at 18:30 and 22:30 UTC. Also on 8740, 8785 and 13104 kHz at 06:30, 10:30, 14:30, 18:30 and 22:30. And on 17305 and 22792 kHz at 06:30, 10:30 and 14:30. So quite a lot of frequencies to check 🙂

    Hi Andre! Very interesting , I’ll try to catch this on a long-wire antenna. Sunday morning and afternoon here in Florida, been receiving USCG weather located in Chesapeake Va. loud and clear. 13089 USB

      Thanks John! Nice catch on Chesapeake. It has come through at my location once or twice also, remarkably clearly. I think it covers quite a wide area.

    Reception on D-808 is a bit off frequency.

    • @swlistening
      @swlistening  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, unfortunately the fine-tuning wheel on my D-808 no longer works, so I cannot fine-tune SSB signals, except in 1 kHz steps, which is not really of any use. I opened up the radio to see what happened, but I could not find the problem. The fine-tuning wheel seems to have slipped loose or something, so it simply does not work anymore.

    Kenwood is better, at least in this case. R1000 is easier to listen and to understand.

    • @swlistening
      @swlistening  4 месяца назад

      I agree, the Kenwood has very good sound and it is quite a bit clearer than the D-808 here.
