Love the choice of actor they cast for the king. Stephen Fry is one of the most out and proud gay actors in the UK. it just works on so many levels. You have gay royalty playing actual royalty talking about repressing who you are which is something Stephen had to do for a long time
I could make a bad joke that they really had a queen playing the part of a king - I think Stephen Fry would enjoy the joke. But the actor playing the homophobic Prince Philip also identifies as queer. (Hail, hail, the gang's all here!)

The Paris scene is SO sensuous!! At 24:04 Henry's hand pushes down on Alex's back, urging him in. Then, when he's fully in, Henry exhales and raises his eyebrows and nods his head, all good! It wasn't shown here, but after they finish the camera pans back and shows TWO condom wrappers.

That scene of them dancing in the Victoria & Albert Museum DESTROYED me. I completely teared up watching that moment. It's just so incredibly beautiful and that song was perfect. I've been to the V&A and have walked that exact corridor where they were standing, I have photos of those exact statues, and as someone who loves museums, I would absolutely melt if a guy snuck me into one late at night for a private moment like that. Like you, I felt incredibly single in that moment lol. The Paris hotel room sex scene was also incredible. So beautiful and romantic. You could tell it was choreographed and planned out by gay men. The lingering shots of them just carefully touching each other was perfect. The intimate moments through the whole film were excellent. Zahra was also one of my favorite parts of the film as well. Her reaction to finding Henry in the closet in the hotel room was hilarious. Loved the way the polo scene was edited but I wish it had been longer, there was more that happened in the book. There's a lot they changed and cut out from the book but I think this still worked well. I think they had to edit out a lot of scenes from the film to get it to a shorter runtime. It would be nice if they released the deleted scenes. One of my favorite lines was when Henry says "So my full name is Henry George Edward James Hanover-Stuart Fox." Alex says "And I thought Alexander Gabriel Claremont-Diaz was a mouthful." Henry nods and says "He is." with a smile. Henryyyy!😳😳😏
Yes the sex scene was like the most well done tasteful think I have ever seen, it was just amazing how well planned out it looked and how well it portrayed everything it was meant too. Also Zahra was the best, I don't think she was ever on screen and I wasn't laughing, it was amazing.

I want to spam the video of all the self proclaimed movie critics on social media who had said earlier that Nicholas and Taylor were miscasts. I can't thank the casting director enough for giving us the perfect Alex and Henry. Loved this film so much
Yes they were so good, when when I posted the trailer people were talking about it and though I don't know the books I was like these men are fantastic
@@ethanclarkreactsMost of the hate came from the promotional pictures, before they trailer came out. People took like 4 promotional photos, analysed them and decided that Taylor and Nick hated each other so they wouldn't have chemistry in the movie. It was absolutely ridiculous.
At the end of the post credits scene where there in cake at the end it says ‘For Kristy’ which is a tribute to Taylor Zakhar Perez’s older sister who passed away in June.❤ I loved this reaction!!!
This movie made me feel so much because I never thought as a queer person I only ever expected tragedy. Getting a happy ending wasn’t something I thought I would be able to have. I am so happy for people coming after me that they don’t have to think their lives will only end in tragedy.
You are right. The message is, "To Love is To Live." Everyone deserves love without conditions set upon them. There is too much hate in the world. It is easier to hate than to love, but we all need to try.
They could have delayed the kiss 10-15 min longer to focus more on their chemistry as "friends" and getting comfortable with one another but other than that, it was great. I kind of wish they turned the book into two-three movies so they could really set it all up with all the characters. But it was great. Love seeing two regular joes fall in love and not the gay stereotypes you see so much today. I hope we move past that.
Henry has to cut that rope that binds him to Alex. The king with his back to the boys, smiles as he hears Henry confessing his love for Alex! He may be remembering his own youth. Sweet review! Imposible you are single!
i'm so glad i watched this movie with my girlfriend because i would have had a breakdown otherwise. this is honestly the kind of cute romcom we queer people deserve !!!
Thank you so much for you awesome reaction. Not only was this movie a sweet romcom, but I think it had awesome queer representation. .I really loved the moment in there first sex scene when Alex said “who’s going to do what to whom”, and Henry Hugs him. That was such a sweet moment, and it’s really great that the movie showed all aspects of a romance. I agree with you, it doesn’t matter that there’s only one book there needs to be a sequel .Thanks again for your amazing reaction!
Yes it was so sweet and cute, I loved that scene too cause I feel like in most media you have people going right into it but it was nice to see them be honest and slow, felt like more real of a connection
Loved the book so much and really apreciated how well the actors do with there personalites. I wish they kept some of the amazing lines from their emails tho like "if alex was the storm, then henry was the ground where lightning touched down." 😢 💜💙💖
the reveal of both their assistants (or whatever they're called) are actually together is even funnier in the book cause they try to figure out who zahra is engaged with for like half the book and then at the end shes like guess i gotta calle my fiance to get your relationship fixed but in general they did such an amazing job with this movie and didnt stray too far from the book i do still like some things in the book more but the movie on its own is just perfect and you just being like "they're so beautiful" and "god the chemistry" the entire time is such a mood haha would definitely recommend you reading the book i read it like 3 times before the movie came out and will be reading it again now that i've watched the movie
This movie was AMAZING! Fun fact, they are real American journalists. The first one you see is Rachel Maddow and the second is Joy Reid. They each anchor shows on MSNBC.
I really recommend you reading the book, the book and the movie has alot of differences like there are several charecters, for example: June, Alex's sister is missing in the movie. But that was bound to happen they had to fit 300+ pages in a 2-hour long movie. I really think that the book is worth reading as we get to understand how Alex slowly starts seeing Henry in better light or how sexually confused he got after the kiss happened, we also see all the conversations they had through the emails or even through their phones. All these topics got kinda brushed up in the movie. But this doesn't change the fact that I absolutely loved the movie as well!!
@@ethanclarkreacts that's amazing! I'll look forward to it!!! You can look up reading vlogs to see how others structure it for some inspiration. Either way, I'm excited to see your reaction to the book. As you will be reading it after the movie, I'm curious to see which one would you like better, the book or the movie
Perez and Galitzine are wonderful in this film. Much has been said about their chemistry, which is palpable. But neither actor has shown as much heart or honesty in their other work. The difference is the sensitivity of the creative team. Director Matthew Lopez and cinematographer Stephen Goldblatt give them a glowing jewel box to inhabit. With the addition of the intimacy coordinator, Robbie Taylor Hunt, the intensity of the character's relationship materializes on screen. You sense that there was pride and love coming from all departments and that that provided a platform which allowed the two lead actors to become two lead characters that make us laugh and cry and love them. Cynics have attacked the film for not being what they want or think it should be, but that is short-sighted. The achievement of RW&RB is that it is completely what it sets out to be -- a smiling act of hope and love.
Honestly, I loved the movie. The actors were perfectly casted and truly gave their all here, you can tell. The fact that they managed to make you feel as invested as one is while reading the books in a movie version with time constraints and whatnot, is an amazing feat. This and Heartstopper just days apart is just so healing and heartwarming ♡ I also have to say that I LOVED your reaction too, it felt like watching a movie with a friend. So nice and fun 😊 thank you for it, you made my day
Yes, the acting was phenomenal, everything they did and said was just so believable and made you love them both so much. Also thank you so much, all I want people too feel when watching my reactions is that it is like watching a movie with a friend so that is so amazing too hear, thanks again means a lot :)
#Art is supposed to challenge us... This movie does challenge us. So many issues gently placed into our minds to think on, to be a starting point for a conversation.
49:02 It's interesting that you commented on how would this would happen in the real world. The author wrote the book after Trump was elected in 2016 as sort of an alternate universe that is not perfect but just a little better than our current one. A lot of the themes you pointed out get even more developed in the book. It's really cool to see someone who hasn't read the book pick up on the themes! I'm really glad the movie was able to get those across.
Yeah I think the movie did a really good job with the themes, especially since I think they did theme nice and subtlety. Though I will definitely be reading the book after seeing this movie
I'm pretty sure Casey said that they wrote it before the 2016 election but then was so depressed that the Richards of her book actually won in real life so they didn't release it until 2019. When they decided to release it, it was like hope for the 2020 election so that people had hope that Trump wouldn't be reelected.
The events of the story take place between the fall of 2019 and through to Nov. 2020. Not only is Trump replaced but Ellen as a stand-in for Hillary but covid doesn't happen during the timeframe of the story.
From a fan of the book, i was pleasantly surprised by the movie, now that was an adaptation !! I missed June but overrall it was way better than i expected !
Looking back, I think this might be the best and most insightful reaction video I've seen. I think you are so perceptive in honing in on how Alex fell in love with a person, and a friend, whom he had gotten to know. That fact sets this movie apart so much from anything else I have seen.
You MUST read the book. There is so much more. As a straight 63 year old woman I can honestly say this is the best most romantic story I've seen. The love scenes are just swoon. I'm in love with both of them too
I saw the movie first and loved it. Seen it several times already. After that, I got the book and while it’s great, I think the movie is better. The dialogue is snappy and funny and the emotions really come through the movie. But the book is worth reading, too.
You know whats my only problem THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SERIES like i want more of them this is not enough. the chemistry is sooooooo good it should have been longerrrrrrrr its not a want its a need
I saw the movie once it became available. Went out and got the book the next day. Still re-watching the movie a few more times at least. So many good moments. side note: Greg Berlanti who helped make Love, Simon was part of this movie. Also Rachel Hilson who played Nora was also Mia from Love, Victor. In case anyone mighty not have know or wondered.
I'm in absolute awe at how they translated into visual media much of the early part of Henry and Alex's as they learnt about each other. While the book has a deeper story line about Richards not having that as part of the movie, I think, was a good idea. We are rewarded with beautifully crafted moive that hits all the high notes of a rom-com just with queer representation front and centre. Seeing the level of intimacy grow between the two men is such a shot to the heart: the little intimacies, like some of those gazes, that are part of a healthy relationship was an added joy. Plus, Taylor and Nick are truly pretty as well as very talented. We believe in Henry and Alex. #rwrb #AllTheFeels
This is the best commentary and reaction to RWRB that I have seen. Your reactions are brilliant. I wish you could be nominated for an award. I think your roundup at the end where you try and make sense of what you have just witnessed, is a lot more articulate than I would have been able to manage at the time, and that’s after an English degree in which film studies was a module. However, my reaction to this film has been like nothing else I have seen. It’s the only film I’ve watched c.10 times in quick succession. It just leaves you with a wonderful warm feeling. Look forward to seeing more of your videos. 😊
I'm 71 and loved this movie. Almost all the movies of gay "romances" were like one guy socking the other and saying, "Gosh, I like you!" or psychopaths or tragedy, aka "you got what you deserve." They should issue the director's cut, if only for the outtake of the story of "The Young Prince." Greatest line to take away- You can stay in your world and nothing will ever happen. But, Henry, nothing will ever happen."
Ethan, you are probably aware of another similar story. Alex and Prince Henry are in their twenties. The similar story is a series, Young Royals. It’s about the second son of the Queen of Sweden, Prince Wilhelm. He goes away to boarding school and falls in love with a working class boy, Simon. If you haven’t seen it, please give it a try. I believe you will enjoy it.
absolutely adored this movie and your reaction to it! i was cackling every single time you got "grossed out" by how cute they are LMAOOOO I FEEL YOU MY GUY ITS SO FUCKING CUTEEEEE and youre right, so so full of heart and love and joy
The movie was cute and fun, but my main critique is that the movie completely gutted EVERY female character (and glossed over Henry's severe depression.) They removed Alex's sister and Henry's mom, who were core parts of the story (June being Alex's moral center and Princess Catherine being Henry's foil). All in all, 7/10
imo most reviewers are totally in love with and raving about the strong female characters like the president, her assistant, Alex' friend and even how supportive Henry's sister is. Henry being depressed is also hinted well for viewers in the movie, he mentions several times the impact his dad's death had on him and there were several shots of him alone in rooms sad/crying and obviously suffering. But I understand what you mean because this movie should have been at least longer or made into a mini series, they would have had more time to explain things and flesh out characters even better. But for what it's worth, the movie is getting huge views all around the world, it's a cute rom-com movie and good representation for lgbtq
Amazon insisted the movie be restricted to two hours and I doubt a series was ever possible. For every minute you might want them to include from the book is one minute would have to be cut from what they did include. And to do any of these side themes any justice would take a bunch of minutes.
There are several addresses which are well known. The White House is at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Fictitious Sherlock Holmes' apartment was 221B Baker St. In England, the Prime Minister's official residence is No. 10 Downing St. So just after Henry learns the emails have been hacked, he asks if they can get word to Alex, he is told they can't get through to the White House, who might be talking to Downing St. but not Buckingham Palace. (Not exactly sure why but this explanation is needed for the story line.)
This was such a good film, I agree with you this movie made me feel so single, but it's great to see a film like this as a gay man, this movie also gives me hope

I hope we get a sequel or better yet a series because I need Alex & Henry in my life!
Book name?
@@vandanak8942 I think the book has the same title Red, White & Royal Blue.
Yes as solely a movie watcher atm, I still would love a sequel, in movie or book form because I want more too
@@stevenjump8234 thanks
No Fr 😂
Feeling the singlehood BAD! The chemistry between these two had me at "hello". This story reminds me a little of a certain other Royal Spare that also fought for his love. Love your reaction!
Right the chemistry was killing me, I just couldn't figure out how it was so good (well great acting), I am so glad you enjoyed my reaction
I want to spam the video of all the self proclaimed movie critics on social media who had said earlier that Nicholas and Taylor were miscasts. I can't thank the casting director enough for giving us the perfect Alex and Henry. Loved this film so much
Me too I was so waiting for the movie ❤
Yes they were so good, when when I posted the trailer people were talking about it and though I don't know the books I was like these men are fantastic
@@ethanclarkreactsMost of the hate came from the promotional pictures, before they trailer came out. People took like 4 promotional photos, analysed them and decided that Taylor and Nick hated each other so they wouldn't have chemistry in the movie. It was absolutely ridiculous.
@@sophiablackthornwhich was stupid given that Taylor and Nick are good friends as seen on social media and in the behind the scenes.
Yes it is beautiful too see a nice happy ending for once :)
I think tv series would have been perfect and its good for streaming platform like Amazon...Im sad they didnt make it
@@0912sooli I'm sure it will get another remake at some point. Or someone else will get the rights to make a limited tv series. Who knows!
A 4 episodes miniseries would have been the best choice.
Yeah def should’ve been a mini series
@@Gaia_Seraphina Honestly, 6 30-40min episodes would’ve been great.
Yes it was so sweet and cute, I loved that scene too cause I feel like in most media you have people going right into it but it was nice to see them be honest and slow, felt like more real of a connection
the probably didn't have enough time , but i wish they would have included a scene ending the career of that reporter!
Yeah
oml yes I hated him with a burning passion
Looking forward to seeing that in the sequel.
Loved the book so much and really apreciated how well the actors do with there personalites. I wish they kept some of the amazing lines from their emails tho like "if alex was the storm, then henry was the ground where lightning touched down." 😢 💜💙💖
Yes there were so many line in the book that I wish they kept, but I guess it is hard when there is so much good source material
the reveal of both their assistants (or whatever they're called) are actually together is even funnier in the book cause they try to figure out who zahra is engaged with for like half the book and then at the end shes like guess i gotta calle my fiance to get your relationship fixed
but in general they did such an amazing job with this movie and didnt stray too far from the book
i do still like some things in the book more but the movie on its own is just perfect
and you just being like "they're so beautiful" and "god the chemistry" the entire time is such a mood haha
would definitely recommend you reading the book
i read it like 3 times before the movie came out and will be reading it again now that i've watched the movie
Yeah I will definitely be reading the book after seeing this movie
When did they have time to develop a relationship with those two?
You had the EXACT same reaction that I did at 14:49! I was like "Gross! They're too cute."
I glad that the gross reaction is not just a me thing haha
It's gonna be a classic for years to watch!❤❤
I laughed so hard when you said you've never felt more single. 😆🤣
Relatable though :D
Yeah I will definitely be reading the book after seeing this movie, I am so excited for more details
@@ethanclarkreacts will you be posting your reaction to reading the book as well?
Yes I will be, I don't really know how I am going to structure it yet but I will be getting too it soon
So right. Also, 2 straight actors to pull off that chemistry really speaks to their talent.
That F you Miguel was such a mood HAHAHAHA that guy was sus from the beginning
Yeah as soon as he said journalist I knew he would be trouble
Honestly, I loved the movie. The actors were perfectly casted and truly gave their all here, you can tell. The fact that they managed to make you feel as invested as one is while reading the books in a movie version with time constraints and whatnot, is an amazing feat. This and Heartstopper just days apart is just so healing and heartwarming ♡
I also have to say that I LOVED your reaction too, it felt like watching a movie with a friend.
"To all my singles out there, how y'all feeling". I'm feeling forever alone
I wonder if u notice Henry is wearing Alex's blue hoodie when they're in the museum. It's the same hoodie with when the sence Alex talk with Nora😃
Ah I didn't pick up on that, that is so cute, thanks for letting me know
49:02 It's interesting that you commented on how would this would happen in the real world.
Wow, thank you that’s so kind 😊
This movie was fantastic. Romantic, beautiful and they had the money to make it. It looks awesome. So sweet.
“This is going to be an unhealthy movie for my mental state 🎉” lol saaammmeeee
I saw this and clicked right away
We need a second film so we can have a second wedding with a second CAKE!!!
all I know Is i want a sequal to this movie stat! I want to see them both living their truths now that they're both out and proud!
Their first kiss ❤ and Alex's "oh shit" moment, way better than if he actually said it. 16:46
I love Amy, I love Zarha, I love Alex, I love Henry. This whole movie was a balm for my bi a** 😂
You MUST read the book. There is so much more. As a straight 63 year old woman I can honestly say this is the best most romantic story I've seen. The love scenes are just swoon. I'm in love with both of them too
I made sure I read it after, I actually did a while series reacting too it :)
I saw the movie first and loved it. Seen it several times already. After that, I got the book and while it’s great, I think the movie is better. The dialogue is snappy and funny and the emotions really come through the movie. But the book is worth reading, too.
I just love them both so much for different reasons
OH MY GOD I DIDNT EVEN KNOW IT WAS MADE INTO A MOVIE, THIS BOOK WAS SOOOOO GOOD
The Owl Hoo(s) got me dead 😭😂😭😭 thank you for this reaction! Let's wish for a sequel indeed 💙
yes we need a sequel so bad
You know whats my only problem THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SERIES like i want more of them this is not enough. the chemistry is sooooooo good it should have been longerrrrrrrr its not a want its a need
Ditto!!!!
I loved this movie sm for no reason (I’ve legit watched it 5 times in a row
It is just so fun and sweet
"Eww, thats so cute!" -me while watching this whole movie, being simultaneously giddy and bitter at the same time lmao
Literally the best reaction I have seen to RWRB. AMAZING.
Aw thank you, it means a lot :)

Your reactions were adorable, too. And I love your voice and the tart, brief and emotional comments you make.
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed :)
Jeez.. I felt more single than ever after watching your reaction to this movie
Romance is not dead!
The museum scene is EVERYTHING. 🥰🥰
A little fun fact: here In 43:14 the person on the laptop is the author of the book making a cameo
That is so fun, I love a cameo, thanks for pointing it out
The actor who plays Henry , stars in another LGBT movie from 2016 called Handsome Devil which is a little similar to Heartstopper
But way less satisfying I remember the end of handsome devil pissing me off XD
100K!! Go Ethan!! Proud of you!!
Yes it was so exciting :) thanks so much
Thank you so much for putting on the subtitles. I finally have some answers to various 'what did they say?' questions.
No problem I like to have them anyways so if I didn't make the audio loud enough people still know what they are saying
@@ethanclarkreacts Smart, and very appreciated.
You are too kind, and I am so glad you enjoyed. If you are new here I have reactions to the book, deleted scenes and a rewatch as well :)
I'm 71 and loved this movie. Almost all the movies of gay "romances" were like one guy socking the other and saying, "Gosh, I like you!" or psychopaths or tragedy, aka "you got what you deserve."
They should issue the director's cut, if only for the outtake of the story of "The Young Prince."
Greatest line to take away- You can stay in your world and nothing will ever happen.
But, Henry, nothing will ever happen."
help this reaction is such a mood😭😭😭 this and heartstopper genuinely made me feel SOOOO single
Right, it doesn't help that they were released so close together, they are not being considerate of the singles
I haven't been this obsessed with a movie in a long time.
I actually have seen that show and love it so much, and I have my reaction to season 2 on my channel
We do need a sequel!! OMG! This movie really destroyed me! Thanks for making this reaction...
You’ve been my absolute favourite reactor to this movie by far.
Single here too! Also feeling emotional & heartbroken but so happy that this is a thing that exists. Read the book, my love - you’ll adore it. 😘
Yeah I will definitely be reading the book after seeing this movie
absolutely adored this movie and your reaction to it! i was cackling every single time you got "grossed out" by how cute they are LMAOOOO I FEEL YOU MY GUY
ITS SO FUCKING CUTEEEEE and youre right, so so full of heart and love and joy
I listened to the audiobook about a year ago. Totally fell in love with the story. Liked the movie, but the book is so beautiful
And to do any of these side themes any justice would take a bunch of minutes.
at the party dance scene "I feel sick :D" same buddy
Well, wishing upon a falling star works. The sequel is officially being written.
I am so excited about it

There are several addresses which are well known. The White House is at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Fictitious Sherlock Holmes' apartment was 221B Baker St. In England, the Prime Minister's official residence is No. 10 Downing St. So just after Henry learns the emails have been hacked, he asks if they can get word to Alex, he is told they can't get through to the White House, who might be talking to Downing St. but not Buckingham Palace. (Not exactly sure why but this explanation is needed for the story line.)
