In the real world, you can achieve this with a healthy sense of self-worth that doesn't overextend into arrogance but dwindle into insecure self-esteem issues. Call out insecure bullies where they stand, and make sure to let others know that people will stick up for them and the right thing.

There's no promise that you will "get anything out of it" in terms of self-gain, but the difference that can make for someone else is of life changing proportions.
