Dr. Brandes is currently my urologist. He diagnosed me with urethral stricture to be treated with a laser resection (I had this done 10 years ago with good success). He also found a benign growth in my bladder near the exit to the urethra that will be removed at the same time. The growth works like a "flapper valve" in your toilet restricting the urin flow currently. Wish me luck...
Had my procedure yesterday, feeling OK. Have to pull out the catheter now, it will be painful. Blood in the drained urine looks nearly clear now after 23 hours.

Thank you on the details explanation. I'm living with urethral stricture for 18 years without knowing it. I had it from catheter during my hospital stay in 2004 for perforated appendicitis. May this year suddenly can't urinate and rushed to ER and confirmed I have bulbar stricture. Went for endoscopic produre and need to self catheterization but it painful and hard to do. Endoscopic procedure as mentioned is just a temporary treatment. Good flow around a month. Need to go for urethroplasty.

@@armanshah9877 I am possibly having stricture, researching a lot I see that cystoscopy and these procedures that are done do nothing more than damage the urethra, I would wait about 3 more years to see if this optilume treatment works, I also hope that in that time they will already do a Less invasive and slimmer cystoscopy.
I had a stricture treated at Columbia by Dr J a few months ago. I have it due to SBRT for PCA so far a balloon dilation has worked. I hope if it returns I can get the drug coated procedure but my stricture is slightly too long near 3cc
I had severe hematuria with big blood clots. Worse part was I was close to going to the ER because I could not void but then suddenly I was able. I had full retention when I started radiation after about the 6th session and had to get to the ER for a catheter but it got worse and I had a paraphimosis. Awful! @@BimboTV

Well explained Dr, My last 3 years have been hell, I just recently got diagnosed with a stricture just near the opening, I'm always not looking forward to my next bathroom visit. In South Africa these surgeries are so expensive, but I cant live like this I gotta save up & fix this, so uncomfortable.

Wow,i’ve had almost everything he mentioned. New uro couldn’t believe what I have gone through, cutting scar tissue every six months for the last 9 years. My new doc did the cut with the chemo injection, she told me it usually takes two procedures to be effective, the first one has lasted a year.

He is a specialist with an office in Tarrytown (usual office had a bad water pipe break-cannot make this up) anyway, my urologist tried to scope me but the stricture was large and he did not want to go past it into the bladder. I had a few smaller ones further down. Maybe because of SBRT radiation. I am very very afraid of getting retention because I had it a couple of years ago when having IMRT so I stopped and went on to SBRT I pray they can help.
I had optilume done for a bad stricture, It was like peeing through a fine thread before. Procedure went fine, within a couple days zero pain and flow is better than before stricture. Was terrified, normally surgery doesn't bother me, but now glad I did it.

@gobindkumar2723 Been about 3 months. Everything has been perfect. There was burning 🔥 feeling for a few days after, then random mild burning. Now is perfect. To pee 1/4 cup before would take me 2+ minutes and my bladder would spasm. Now 1/4 is done in 3 seconds. I was told have have a few more, but I passed a large kidney stone about 5 weeks ago and came out instantly. So think I am good for now. Before this, I had a few times I couldn't pee, probably from small kidney stone blocking, that was horrible.

@GOBINDKUMAR-uj3jx I had a kidney stone stuck between my bladder and kidney, causing kidney to backup and almost stop working. After the optilime procedure, stone passed about 3 weeks later, easily. Would be no way to pass it before the surgery. Do it, was scarey, but best thing. I was getting stones stuck and dealing with having to pee all the time, never getting good sleep etc, now is better than before the strictures. I have more strictures, but they don't seem to be causing issues.

My mom went for all of these procedures on the same surgery date, she 69 years old, this was 3 months ago and she is not able to void on her own she is self cath 4 times a day. Will urinary retention go away or does she have an urethral stricture that's is blocking the urine.?
You might have to get what I had a dialation or a urethrotomy I think it's called. And when that failed, they give me a urethroplasty. Which is when they cut the scar tissue out and replace it with your cheek. I don't know if they can do that and Uganda, I'm not sure. I'm American I'm sorry you have to go through this I'm in recovery from a urethroplasty right now I hope we are both fixed permanently with minimal side effects soon.

Thank you for the information Dr. I was infected with Gonorrhea for 10 days, before given meds to cure it. Ever since I sometimes get a glued shut effect on my meatus. The no 1 Stricture Dr in my state did a cystoscopy, and said I have no stricture, but my urine flow feels different, and urine leaks afterward, and other symptoms present which i feel indicate minor damage to my urethra, but not enough to warrant a procedure? if this is the case am i pretty much stuck with the problems? I prob need a second opinion, but dread going through a cystoscopy again 😢
You can be put to sleep before you have a cystoscopy you can get minor anesthesia and they will do it for you, for the person with the issue above I would definitely get a second opinion right away, when you have these type of problems you don't we you have to get a second opinion right away go to a good urologist. If you're in India go to Bangor New Delhi or Mumbai.
I damaged my urethra by wearing this new condom that seals the tip tightly, and trying to pee with it on. It feels like it may be ruptured or it’s swelled very tightly so my pee won’t come up unless I push really hard, then it opens but is super painful. Do you think I need to go to the hospital? I've had 3 kidney and bladder surgeries to remove stones. Now when I pee it comes out in a spray in different directions..not straight out. I have to pee in a jug. My urologist went inside of my penis and did a kind of mini surgery in her office. Worked great for a couple of weeks but now it's coming back. What could be wrong? Scar tissue from the surgeries maybe? It will probable get so bad that I'll have to go to the ER as I will not be able to pee a drop. I have an enlarged prostate but was able to pee just fine before the surgeries.

Oh yea, that's how it's usually diagnosed, through a scope. Also with an X Ray (RUG)
