I'm glad games like this are still being made versus your standard worker placement or city building or fantasy driven Warfare kind of games... And I'm glad you find them and you plan for us thank you
I love the extra attention to detail in the production. I play a lot of board games so these extra things really stand out. I love the theme too - so different.
So excited! Ordered my copy first thing this morning along with the meeplesource upgraded tokens! This is the most excited I have been about a board game I think ever lol. I LOVE the art and theme. I am a sci-fi/fantasy guy, but sometimes you just want something "real" and this is beautiful!!!! Prediction: Wingspan will be my most played game of 2019
Oh good, I'll get to practise on my own before I play with my spouse so maybe he won't beat me like he does with most games. This game just checks so many boxes: beautiful components, original theme, solo variant, mid-level complexity, and not super expensive. No wonder it's generating so much interest.
Great breakdown per usual! You have such a good voice for these style videos. Even if you make a mistake and have to backtrack, it sounds so good it’s almost like it was intentionally added as a “what if” scenario!
@@MrRadialdrift well all the companies get them produced in china but they don't hire the right guys or pay the money to get it done right. Stonemaier is telling them exactly how they want it made.
@@iveo83 Not all companies get their games made in China, just the ones that are happy to pay as little as possible for labor and are fine with workers getting exploited.
@@iveo83 So you obviously don't have a clue then. Do some research, most of the German publishers produce the games in Germany and there are U.S publishers that produce in the U.S, so its clearly a choice by people like Jamey to not support local businesses and support poor working conditions and poor pay rates.
You don't have to discard the card to get the extra food @21:03. It seems like you are agonizing over what to do, but it's an optional perk that you can do, not a requirement.
Thanks for the runthrough on solo play. I'm wondering, at 13:44, why you put the Automa's cube on the 'end of round goal scoring card' as opposed to the 'current round goal tile of the goal board' as indicated in the Automa's rule book, page 3.
Jingle bells, bushtit smells, Rahdo laid an egg... Sorry; that popped into my head as I was watching. Game really looks fascinating; might have to check it out
i like it better because it's much faster, ramps up quicker, you keep your powers longer, and there's no 'take that'. but TM is a heavier, more complex game, and some people love super long games, so they're both good, but both go about card combo building differently
At 23:30 you had done the draw bird action to get the Ibis. Also later, the automa drew another card with a blue cube on it, shouldn't that have given them 3 eggs, tying you?
Regarding the Draw bird action, It was already noted... Like Rahdo says at the start of the 1st video, please turn on the Klingon subtitles to see where Richard goofs up… The draw from Automa that you say it's later, it's the one right after 23:30 or is it later? if it's the one right after 23:30 Richard did everything right... Blue means add cube, purple means remove cube Thanks :)
wonderful unique game, and everything looks great except those birds cards which looks awful because there is not any background behind those birds, its so blank and empty
no game is worth $180 (well, maybe a couple exceptions). if you're interested in it, definitely wait for the next print run when it goes back down to normal. no reason to support opportunistic price gougers :)
Oh and about the “production”... of course it looks/feels great but tell me, if the game was $40-$60, with std quality parts/printing (like found in most board games) would this game still be worth playing solo? You get what you pay for right? The super-high quality production of this game comes with a HIGH price tag. I just want to know if the game is worth buying if planning to play solo only. I wish they made a snake or spider these. Birds... not a fan of birds but the game looks interesting.
that's the power of mass market... huge production run = MUCH cheaper production cost = lower cost for buyer. FCM had maybe what, 5000 units produced every? wingspan had 100k on its first print run, and has sold over a million now. so there's no way a little indipendent game can compete
I love how they put the percentage of birds of the VP type. What a nice detail. And the presentation is gorgeous.
Haha "You can lay eggs on birds". I'd like to see that!
I'm glad games like this are still being made versus your standard worker placement or city building or fantasy driven Warfare kind of games... And I'm glad you find them and you plan for us thank you
Agreed. I'm instantly turned off by the umpteenth fantasy/dungeon game.
I love the extra attention to detail in the production. I play a lot of board games so these extra things really stand out. I love the theme too - so different.
I now want Wingspan: Jurassic Park. This looks awesome!
I WANT IT TOO BUT DAMN I THOUGHT THOSE AUTO PLAYER CARDS WERE AUTOMATICALLY IN THE BOX AND NOT AN EXPANSION

This looks like it'll be my first purchase of 2019!! Great video Rahdo
yep I only last 1 day without getting a new game in the new year. preordered.
Ok thats the best walkthrough I have seen so far. Thankyou SO much!!

thank you! i tend to think of them like that as well... the audience gets to see more variety in the same number of turns played :)
Stonemaier production quality is unmatched
You mean the Chinese production. Stonemayer don't produce anything.

Just preordered! Thanks for the Runthrough!
‘Automubon’ made me laugh every time ☺️
22:45 EAT IT!
(BNHA feelings LOL)
Amazing video, rahdo!
This game is SO lovely to look at 😻 It seems to play well too. Also, who could say no to that theme?

he knows that
Wow. What a risky risky theme for a bgame. The cards remind me of some old games like wildlife.
Risky how? I mean, it's not trains or farming, but how is it risky?
Congratulations to Elizabeth and to Jamey for winning the Kennerspiel des Jahres for 2019 !
Automabahn... that's so great!!
Wow! Definitely a beautiful game!

just a little slipup :)

I thought Jeff Goldblum was narrating for a while :)
Very strong egg laying strategy 🤣
Would it be possible to use the autonoma society in a 2 player game to simulate a 3rd player?
yup, and it would work really well :)
rahdo Thanks, my copy should be arriving this week so I’ll give it a go.
I really love the look of this game. It reminds me so much of the art from herbaceous which I'm pretty sure it shares one of the artists with.
Nice runthrough like always...
Is the Game good as terraforming Mars ? Or better ?

rahdo cool , thx for your opinion 👍
Wow. When I first heard about this, I was skeptical. This looks very interesting indeed.

@@PauloRenato23 Sorry it does look like it was noted. I'm not sure how my Klingon got turned off.
@@mestrahd no problem :)
Great job!
This game is lovely and would sit nicely in my garden subcollection, but I do wish there were a UK birds edition.
Carla Tate - an expansion with Northern European birds is in the works!
wonderful unique game, and everything looks great except those birds cards which looks awful because there is not any background behind those birds, its so blank and empty
I like that. It fully focuses on the birds and the birds are plenty interesting.
On the look out for Big Bird? He's not real Rahdo :)
Hey! You stole the action point at 23.24!
You had to move it to the left part, hadn't you?
It was already noted... Like Rahdo says at the start of the 1st video, please turn on the Klingon subtitles to see where Richard goofs up… Thanks :)
Just wow
Is it worth the $180 if playing SOLO only? Heck... is any board game worth $180? Haha
no game is worth $180 (well, maybe a couple exceptions). if you're interested in it, definitely wait for the next print run when it goes back down to normal. no reason to support opportunistic price gougers :)
Does this game suffer from AP?
we haven't found it to be too bad, compared to other games we've seen. just kind of 'normal' level of euro-style brain freeze :)

standard price for the game is around $40:

You can find this game for $30 with premium components. Meanwhile Food Chain Magnate literally looks like a prototype and is $100+.
