My degree is in directing new work, and my focus is PoMo revisals and contemporary interpretations. This production makes tons of inventive, interesting, and successful choices. Songs are given new contexts and fly. Performers are confident, creative, and fostering a fun atmosphere. While I would likely make many different choices, these choices work as well or better. I thoroughly enjoyed this, thank you for posting both parts.
Setting up timestamps for the songs bc these are such fucking great renditions!! Little Black Dress - 1:44 Me of Me - 7:41 Shock Treatment -13:50 Carte Blanche - 21:34 Looking For Trade - 26:09 Look What I Did to My Id - 29:29 Breaking Out - 33:09 Duel Duet - 42:25 Anyhow, Anyhow - 49:47
I was a fan of Shock Treatment for YEARS before I understood it (the plot became clearer after the rise of reality TV), and I'd abandoned hope of ever seeing this version. Thank you so much, John! Generally, the story's improved and it feels more like a legit RHPS sequel. With a little more workshopping, it could truly be great, so I'm surprised that it hasn't been staged again.
Richard O'Brien actually demanded some script adjustments before he would allow it to be staged. As he's gone on record saying he wasn't happy with the finished script..... despite THREE REWRITES and the troubled production.
First off, the performers were great. I understand that changes need to be made when adapting a movie to the stage, but 7 major characters were eliminated and 10 minor characters. Also the entire story is changed. It was fun, but I don't understand the extreme changes.
I love the movie but I actually love this being a simplified version it's alot easier to follow where as with the movie you can get a bit lost and it takes a couple watches to fully understand it all. I feel like a combination of the two would be perfect.
In the original script he was originally Dr Scott. But the actor turned it down so basically Richard rewrote the character to Bert Schnick. Also Richard O'Brien felt the movie's screenplay to be a bit confusing.

This was great! Very talented cast, and always glad to see Shock Treatment get any kind of recognition :)
It was rewritten for the fourth time.... to make more sense.
I love the addition of Brad’s “in my own way” I wish they chanted “Out out out out” behind it
Thanks for uploading this, let's hope it gets another run sometime.
This was awesome. I'm so happy that this criminally underrated show got some love. The movie despite its issues is a gem. ❤️Richard O,Brian
Thank you SO much for posting this!!!! I’d been searching for years. It’s everything I had hoped it would be and more
The film was a little lackluster but the soundtrack is fantastic. So nice to see this getting a new take and more eyes on the material. THANK YOU!
The movie was excellent what are you gagging?
That's mostly because the original screenplay suffered THREE MASSIVE REWRITES. But kept the songs of the first script.
Thank you so much for uploading these videos! It was such an amazing production. This brought back so many fabulous memories 😊
The changes to "looking for trade" (fame) make a lot of sense
Fantastic work by everyone, thank you all so much!
51:30 "we do know where you live"
Lovely adlib. Wish they kept the twin brothers subplot. Added so much depth to it all.

This was awesome ❤❤❤
L'il Black Dress is a killer of a song.
Wonder if anyone will pick up the rights? Or who hold them now? I’d love to do this show
same.
Carte blanche is like an avalanche, it kinda snowballs and sets you free..
Does anyone know if the book is available anywhere? The show is great but parts of the script are a little hard to make out.
Why did they change Bert's lyrics in Little Black Dress?
Because they removed the character

Richard O'Brien wasn't entirely happy over the finished movie.
@@SanFran51 I think in part that was due to a strike they had to pivot- it was originally going to be shot all over town, not all in the studio.

So wonderful! But why no Bert Shnick???
They wanted to simplify the Story. The DTV set hands’ designs are based off of him.

It was ok, like the movie better
