The way the foil works is that they remove a card from the first 15 cards. Wich ever rarity was removed is the foil. So you can't get two rares. The two packs that were missing a land. The foil was a land. If there is only 9 commons in the pack, then the foil is the common. Used to open a bunch of these! Was is the game since revised and this was one of the last sets before moving on from magic
Man I remember when this set came out. First time being able to get foils and alternate art of our favorite old cards. This was when magic was magic. Oh and nice finger condoms. Always use protection when cracking packs like this.
As someone who’s never gotten the chance to open a pack older than return to ravnica, being able to watch an opening of these first sets is quite a treat. Thank you Joey and Bad Boy Gaming patrons!
Omg there was alot of good pulls from this box and Dave got so many foils holy molly that’s just bonkers lol. The experience alone definitely made it worth being in this opening. Not gonna lie when I was getting in on this break all I wanted was an elf or two and I got some elf’s. So, I’m very pleased with what I got from my packs. Also I gotta say there was quite a bit of foils in this box which was very nice to see. But as always I can’t wait for more content and again this truly was an amazing experience. I’m glad I could get in on this one.

I grew up playing during the Mercadian Masques through Prophecy era, and I remember going into a card shop on the Ocean City Boardwalk, picking up Urza's block packs as a "throw back" lol. Those were the good old days.

Wow. The card quality is shocking how much better the old cards are compared to the new ones . Those cards look sturdy. They even look thicker. Miss the old cards and smell.
Loved it! Got my first deck from 7th. Didn't have anyone to play, so I stopped playing until college. But still, it was wonderful watching you open this box. So much nostalgia

This set honestly has some of the most incredible art I have seen. May throw it right into my top 7 to be honest and I’ve studied a good portion of most like a complete but totally prideful nerd

This was an experience, traveling back in time all while in the comfort of my recliner with the TV droning in the background with munchies and drink by the side. It has been many years since I saw some of those cards and then I remembered all of the cards from earlier editions. What is the oldest pack opened? Arabian Nights and Antiquities back around 1994, I was buying individual packs from the local LGS, long since out of business.
I opened a couple of revised packs as a kid. This is back when the dual lands were about $15 each. They were like $9 packs and my mom was like "don't get used to these packs, here's 10 fallen empires packs for the same price."

My dad played a bit of around this time. One of my favorite cards was mana breach which he had a foil of. It stays in Tatyova as an amazing stax piece
Personally my favorite set, since this is when I was introduced to MTG through the old windows 95 cd rom game which came with thorn elemental and 2 precon decks.

Wild video. I still have my pack pulled foil Nature's Resurgence. Absolutely stunning set. I wish I had realized how special it was at the time and hung onto all the foils I had back then... oh well...

It's so cool to know that I have a start box. That had a vizzerdrix deck and a orge deck and you pulled both in this box. Hurray for 6/6 creatures.

Oldest box I’ve opened is Shadowmoor.
I didn’t start playing or collecting until Kaladesh. But last year I won a sealed Shadowmoor box for like $100 in a raffle.
I opened that baby up, lol.

Oldest set I've ever opened was Mercadian Masques. That was when I got into Magic and would play Friday Night Magic at my local WotC store. At a Junior Super Series event I bought a box of 7th Edition and pulled a foil Serra Angel. Sold it back to the vendor and bought another box. Didn't get anything good, was too eager to pull that foil Birds. I think boxes were going for 75 bucks back then. Brought back a ton of feelings watching this opening
I remember starting to know about Magic around that time when 7th edition came out, I bought the starter set with the foil thorn elemental and the two half decks, and I loved it, but was still too young to appreciate it (around 12, 13), now I just look back to those cards and I love how they look, a mix of nostalgia and appreciation of the old card designs, the art, the flavour... something I'm not able to find in nowadays Magic.

The first box I opened was Tenth Edition, so this will be new for me to see. I tried playing tenth, Lorwyn, and then a bit or Morningtide before giving up. Came back three years ago and love the game now.
Oldest set I recall opening sealed packs from would be either Portal or Mirage. I do have a foil of “Thorn Elemental” from 7th edition starter set that had a pc disk and all, I still have the complete starter set box with all its original content minus the Thorn Elemental.

Pack number 2 you open up, first with foil in, was a bottom pack from left stack.
Homelands back in 96-97. 5th edition was new out but they had homelands for $3 a pack at the same time

Oldest set I've opened is either Fallen Empires. I started playing when 4th Edition was released and started with FE, 4E and Ice Age.
I've been waiting for this. This is my first set aside from a few 4th editions my brother gave me as a kid. Thank you for the video.
Had no idea a 7th foil bird is so valuable now, I legit pulled one from a random pack years ago at a store and went nuts.
It was only worth about 80 when I cashed out, still pretty much pack-fresh. Kept it well protected during play.
Oldest set I opened was Dark. I remember buying a bunch of packs after Christmas trying to get a maze. I think they were 6$ a pack at that time. The legendary packs were like $15 and I remember passing on them because that was a lot of money at the time lol.
oldest set i have opened is ice age. i started playing in 2001 when apocalypse, odyssey and 7th edition were out, but the card shop i went to still had older packs for sale: ice age block, tempest block and mirage block, so i'd occasionally buy them.
Oldest set I opened was 3ED. Played from 1994-1999. Just started back up late 2021.
Opened unlimited after Arabian...best pull was a timetwister. First box was splitting a box of Legends...got a mirror universe and sword of the ages.

The oldest set I opened was a Revised starter deck. My uncle found one in his basement a few years ago and gave it to me for Christmas, I opened it and there were 2 Underground Seas, it was absolutely insane.
Man 7th edition was my set as a kid,I can’t wait to watch this. Hope you get some great foils even the commons are silly expensive. I definitely gotta get in on that onslaught break that’s also a childhood sweetheart

Oldest set I’ve opened is The Dark. I’m only 15 but I opened a crap tone of The Dark packs when they were super cheap 4 years ago. Yes I was 11 and I did and still do love the old cards.
I opened two packs of Legends back in 97. I bought them at the LGS for $10 each. Pulled The Abyss in one pack and In The Eye of Chaos and Mana Drain in the other.
Just started playing this year, love the game. I've got some good friends to teach me the ropes. I enjoy the he'll out of these pulls. Seeing what I could have gotten if I played this back in the day...Skadouche! Lol.
Oldest set was Starter 1999, but I've purchased older packs without knowing it back in 2001. They were like $1 more expensive and I was too new to know why.

I still remember opening up my Shivan Dragon foil from packs we bought at the flea market. Crazy how much these things are worth, if we only knew what we had in our hands as kids. I managed to get it back, unfortunately it has a slight binder mark in the back, otherwise it's minty.

One of my favorite foils I own came out of that set. Birds of Paradise.

So yeah, my LGS has a foil 7th Edition Static Orb that's been sitting in the singles case since last fall. It's somewhere over $400 last time I asked. Yep, those foils in the pre-Modern card frame be totally cray-cray.
Earliest must have been something in Urza block when it was released. I remember 7th was being handed out for free a lot when it was released.
Big fan of 7th edition. I collected 7th black foil Japanese set. The green nature's resurgance is beutiful
i started when 7th edition came out. We also had Onslaught-, Invasion- and Urza-boosters in our local store back then. The oldest pack i opened i guess was from aniquities :)
Oldest set I've opened was 3 packs of the Dark about 3-4 years ago. Got an Eater of the dead, was pretty happy.

My first set I ever bought a Booster Box for was Dragons of Tarkir (I love dragons!!!) The very first pack I ever opened was from Time Spiral I think.
I remember cracking like 10 of these when they were released, man wish i had kept them all sealed.
7th edition was when I first started collecting. Granted, I didn't have that much money back then so I think I bought only a total of 8-10 packs. But this definitely took me back. I think the oldest pack I've ever opened was The Dark.
Probably Ice Age, I don’t recall opening any packs/boxes of anything earlier. Definitely opened some Mirage and a bunch of Urza stuff.
Really cool box, but seems extremely tough to break even at $111.11 per pack. At that point you could buy the foil rares/chase foils as singles. Love 7th edition, lots of nostalgia for this set.

Amazing box opening Joey well done.
I started in 94 with revised - was broke in high school. Saved almost all of the cards I played with and destroyed with no sleeves but sold my juzam and library and most of the singles I bought back then.
Oh and something interesting - I remember the guys that had and played with moxes so got in at the very beginning were buying and selling them to each other for at least 100-200. So nothing like now but dual lands were around 10 then so they knew how much more they were worth. Mostly middle aged guys had the real old stuff.
I think the oldest I opened was Fallen Empires when the shop was trying to unload them for something like 40 bucks a box.

My oldest set was the dark. I opened it year one of it's release at the age of 8 years old. I also opened a booster box of unglued and used them as birthday favors in 98 age 13.
The first Core set with Foil parallel and the last with the old border frame
This was the set I played when I quit I opened Beta Packs as a kid. I just started playing again.
